Revenge Porn

I just saw a piece on television where a young girl of 23 had emailed nude pictures of herself to her boyfriend in 2009.  They've long-since broken up and she found out fairly recently that he put them, along with her name, address, phone, etc., on the internet on "revenge porn" sites.  Hundreds of sites.  She's suing and trying to get his behavior criminalized.

One woman says that this girl's being told she should never have sent nude pictures of herself is like telling a rape victim that she was asking for it. I disagree with that point because nobody asks for rape and she sent the pictures totally by her own decision.

She said she wants young women to know if you send nude pictures over the internet "you should never blame yourself."

What do you think about this whole thing?

I couldn't resist printing this picture....you might say "we've come a long way, baby"...you might think it's way too long.   Which was safer?  Which was healthier?

I am what you may call a Social-Liberal,for those who don't understand what that is, Social Liberalism is Modern liberalism;Combining Progressivism and Classic Liberalism. But don't get me wrong, but I honestly think porn is sort of a plague to society, and rather disgusting. But as a liberal I think that it, like mostly everything else is a clearly honest part of human behavior and should be acceptable. Kids clearly have access to it,as do anyone else who wants to. In not at home the elsewhere such as the public library. And you can't say that's a good thing.
Lets face it here, porn is new it's natural part of life.

Please understand that what is offensive to you may not be offensive to your neighbor. Similarly, what is offensive to your neighbor, may not be offensive to you. If you dictate what ought to be banned and what ought not be banned you are walking down a dangerous path of public/government censorship. You who are conservatives here are constantly preaching against public and or government censorship or banning, and I agree. And that is something that conservatives like you and liberals should not support. Pornographers should have the freedom to express themselves how they want, as long as they are not harming anyone else. Secondly, I think that most people don’t have any problem with pornography. Don’t conservatism worship total separation of Church and State?

I love that picture of the couple in the ice-cream soda shop! Too bad we never see that scene any longer. A typical movie scene from the 50's.

Today, the People on the Left's values social change be it via Misfits or anyway possible.
The people on the Right, are mostly hard workers, people who value family values, and patriotic, American lovers, who are Nationalists, Traditional Conservatives, Modern Conservatives, or Libertarians that value tradition, and wish to change things via the voting booth.
Those on the Left are; Socialists, Progressives, Social Liberals, Anarchists, Communists, who for the most part are unpatriotic, Americans who look for free things, food stamps, welfare, governmental dependency and handouts! In other words, why work when you can ride the gravy train? Let’s not forget that roughly half of the residents of the United States pay taxes, and half do not. It’s not a secret which half is which! I personally have no sympathy for people who are too lazy to work and who have the morals of alley cats.

I thought that was a rather nice short essay by “Liberal Woman.” And, if I may add, typical leftist drivel. No one is saying that because I happen to believe that sending nude photos is a horrible idea that we should criminalize doing so. We have to many laws in this country already, thanks in large measure to progressive social policy. What we are saying is that if this woman is an idiot, then she should suffer to consequences of her own idiocy. You know, similar to voting for Obama twice and then complaining because your medical insurance costs just tripled.

Of course, the left has long been an advocate of a no consequence society, which is precisely why we have a corrupt society.

Ed, of course not :-) (sarcasm)

Fred, thanks for your input on today's topic.
I'm thinking it's not just 'tradition' breaking that prompts young girls in America from being like the picture in the image at the malt shop and the extreme opposite of sending nude pictures of oneself to a boyfriend.
i was hoping it would be interesting to talk about what causes this and where we go from here.
If she does that today...what's in ten years?

EVERYBODY: The banning is the girls' idea. I don't think pornography can be stopped; it's been with us, I'm sure, since the advent of time.
Nobody's arguing that here.
The idea that men are now, in the hundreds, sending ex girlfriends' pictures and getting them distributed all over the internet might disturb and sadden some of us and I'd say that true conservative freedom includes allowing our displeasure at that.

Lib Buster...I delete name callers so he's gone. But thanks for your comment.

Actually, most people do not support pornography in this country. Those who oppose it usually include social conservatives, religious people and organizations, feminists, those who support the notion of harm-reduction programs. In contrast, those who support pornography are social liberal groups, homosexual groups, and pedophiles. Makes you wonder which of those latter groups the liberal woman affiliates with; probably the lebo-Nazis.

I think the woman who sent her nude pictures to some other moron deserves what she gets. I think the real question is, should American society allow such persons to reproduce?

Jack, we just had some comments saying Republicans need to go to jail, and worse.
I always wonder why free speech and allowing others' opinions is so offensive to some liberals.

Like this post; what's offensive about suggesting it might be nice if our young women today didn't consider taking nude pictures of themselves let alone send them to boyfriends they don't know well enough to consider he might do something like post them all over the internet at the first fight?

What's wrong with wishing that such a large percentage of teen aged boys weren't looking at porno? Most people understand that this could mess up their opinions of women and their sex lives. Can we do anything about it? Probably not.
Can some of us infer there's something wrong with a world that's gone from the metaphorical malt shop and sipping malts together as teens to being so used to sex by the age of 18 that we'd take photos and mail them ...that we might want to teach our children better? I'd have thought so.

I just read what Mustang said, and all I can say is so what is your point?
Once again the republicans are trying to force their moral principles on the rest of the world and advocate Censorship!
Nobody is trying to take away your right as an adult to jerk off to the Victoria's Secret catalog in the privacy of your own bedroom or bathroom! Go ahead and do so, but please anyone else about their sexual “Freedoms”.
I AM A LIBERAL, AND I DON’T WANT TO KEEP PORN OUT OF ANYONE’S HANDS!
And don’t tell me that only liberals want to advocate censorship! And if the righties want porn to be illegal, just let them ban it in their own homes,
The Republicans NEED to keep social issues to themselves and stop dictating it everyone else. IT’S JUST OUTRAGEOUSo shame on you!

I thought this was about the total lack of sense on the part of someone who would send nude pictures of herself and expect that there would never be any repercussions. I'm going to guess that she's not a Republican!

Well, Z, that, of course, is exactly right. The discussion should END right there.

Oh, and by the way, any "girl" today who traipses up the stairs into a man's bedroom after a night on the town most certainly IS anticipating sexual intercourse. She wouldn't be going up there to have tea and crumpets or to play a friendly came of Cribbage, now would she?

The very idea that a woman should have the "right" to do her best to ruin a man's life IF for any reason she comes to regret her voluntary decision to go to bed with him is beyond the realms of both prudence and decency.

If you ACT like a slut, then you must expect to be treated like a slut. PERIOD!

Surprise attacks by total strangers wielding weapons in an alley, in a park, on a elevator, or in a broom closet are a different matter altogether.

Whatever happened to COMMON SENSE?

As a matter of law she might have a case but it's marginal.

Did she have any expectation that her sleazy boyfriend would keep these pictures private? Unlike porn they almost certainly weren't meant for public display.

But it's a sobering reminder. Very little is private any longer. And as you condemn this girl as a slut it does behoove you to ask if she deserves any protection.
The photos are going to be there for a very long time and will almost certainly have an adverse impact.

Krabby said...

I don't think shes covered by USC 17 Mr. Duck.

Once on the airways it's in the public domain. No one can claim privacy. Stupidity yes. Gullible yes.

Slut? Maybe...we should look at the photos published to see if she has a tramp stamp on her.

Pris said...

No doubt she sent these pictures to the guy, when they were boyfriend and girlfriend, and she trusted him. Her first mistake. Yes, it's crazy that she sent them over the internet.

However, I see that only she is being blamed here. I blame him too! It seems there are fewer young gentlemen these days. The fact that he also added her name, address and phone number, is simply revenge. He made her a target. How awful. As for her, she learned her lesson the hard way, and is paying for it in spades!

"Sick of Repubs"...then don't frequent conservative blogsites..simple!

And, what post did you read? Who's advocating censorship here?
Who made any judgment except for the wisdom of a young girl doing what she did? Please, you sound like a typical liberal media venue, jumping to conclusions, exaggerating and misrepresenting the truth. man.

Pris, of course they were still dating when she sent them and yes, the guy's absolutely as guilty; but he sure couldn't have done this if he didn't have the pictures. Of course, with photo shop, that's questionable, too.

Ducky, you're right; nothing is private and it's idiotic to do ANYTHING that you don't want family, friends and strangers to know about you, or see, ..

this is not about censorship but the leftwingers here sure jumped to conclusions.
Glad to see DUcky did not.

As I was gazing at the images reflected on the glass like surface of the lake... Oh. That was yesterday's discussion.

I believe that Liberalwomann is Liberalmann's softer, gentler image, mirror-lake surfaces notwithstanding. Is this a transgender move on his/her part? Do we have to treat him/her as we now have to treat Sargent Bradley/Chelsea Manning. I thought I was socially liberal, but I am out of touch with the new type that are taking over the asylum.

Liberalmann/womann apparently likes porn. So what? I don't think the issue in the article is porn, but the actions of a foolish womann in conjunction with those of a foolish mann.

Kid said...

She made an error sending nude pictures.

He made a larger error by being an asshole.

When a person of either sex realizes an error has been made in starting a relationship with someone, then you simply leave the relationship and move on.

That he was so adolescent and weak as to want to cause the woman the indignity of the actions she made earlier in good faith clearly points him out as a weak, crude person of little value.

It won't last.

Kid, not against prostitution here...or against porn, for that matter, but there is a terrible epidemic of teen boys looking at internet porn that's apparently affecting them in terrible ways...and permanently.

Once you give something away you no longer control it. Don't know the details of the breakups, but women can do some pretty nasty things.

A man in general should not do this as it tarnishes later memories. However, just knowing some of the antics women pull in breakups some of this may be provoked.

Providing naked pictures is stupid.
Provide a good meal and don't drive too deeply into a mans wallet and that should be enough for a good guy.

FrogBurger said...

From a legal standpoint she didn't authorize the boyfriend to distribute the pictures. Because she acted poorly doesn't justify the behavior of the ex-boyfriend.

Criminalize sending naked pictures? People are free to do whatever they want between themselves.

FROM Z AT WORK:

Frog Burger, I agree...the point of my post is really how horribly we've changed from young women in the fifties to young women today. Imagine back then going on television whining about not getting the government to pay for birth control? Or this girl who sent nude pictures blaming everybody ELSE for the trouble?

Jen, YOU ROCK, my dear friend!

Libmann.....are you sane?

Beak...well said.

Kid said...

Z, Yes, too much of anything, and I guess I'd be a different person if I could have sat around watching the kind of stuff that's online these days, from what I hear of course. And I've never employed a prostitute.
Seems to be I'd rather roll around in the dumpster behind the hospital for free.

But as Seinfeld once posited "Only 3%of the population is date-able; 4% tops".

There are some people out there who simply aren't getting any relief any other way who would turn to abduction and rape - to turn this back into a serious comment.

Z said...

Kid, I never said I'm against prostitution. I'm not, frankly.
What I am sorry about is how decent young NONprostitutes (girl-next-door types) have turned to such whorish behavior, that's all. I mean, imagine most girls in 1954 showing their breasts to a guy let alone sending him nude pictures of herself. Obviously many girls slept around, but in general..notsomuch.
My gosh, I was a teen way after the fifties and my friends and I'd die if any guy saw a boob :-)

Or at least they didn't blab it all over the world; I'm a big fan of DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL in matters like this. We don't need to wallow in promiscuity.

Kid said...

Z, I'm with you on that 100%. We have become a shallow, whorish society at least from a popular culture point of view.
miley cyrus, girls sending pictures of themselves in thongs to sites like thechive. Different world, and it's never good when young girls turn publicly whoreish. Lots of guys will always take advantage and it's been up to the women to hold the line on this kind of thing.

Z said...

Kid, women have changed a LOT in the last just 20 years, really.
It's still weird for me to see headlines like "Mary Jones (some celeb or something...pick any name) is expecting a bundle of joy with BOYFRIEND Brad Scummy next month!":

Or what I saw today "Simon Cowell won't be in the delivery room, but he's thinking of marrying his girlfriend who's 8 months pregnant".

What kind of message does that send young girls?
What's sexy or fulfilling or smart about single motherhood if you have the choice NOT to have a kid out of wedlock and try to raise it yourself?

I don't want to step on toes here...you can rest assured probably more than half my commenters are either in those relationships or have kids in them...but what happened to society after hundreds of years to go south SO FAST?

Z said...

FrogBurger, I think criminalizing doesn't make sense, either.

I just wish people were smart enough not to get themselves IN this type of situation.

Kid said...

Z, let me say this. Was talking in the office on the subject of 'when I was young, parents in families seemed to stay together much more than today', and I was thinking morals were different back then, but then another guy brought up the idea that women back in the 60's for example did not have as many opportunities for financial independence, so they were stuck, more than willing. That could be. Today, women are much more independent and that may be a big reason for the difference.

FrogBurger said...

I just wish people were smart enough not to get themselves IN this type of situation.

Unfortunately most people can't think medium and long term. Our politicians can't even analyze the possible consequences of their actions and policies.
