The Day for THANKS

I'm thinking that saying "Happy Thanksgiving!" isn't quite enough....it numbs us, somehow, this familiar and happy greeting, to the THANKS part and to whom we owe our debt of thanks. It's a lovely sentiment, Happy Thanksgiving, but it's come to mean turkey and stuffing and green bean casserole and two days off that week. Let's all stop and think of all that "Happy Thanksgiving" really means. I say to you all today "Have a wonderful DAY OF THANKS...and thank everyone you know for their love and kindnesses and thank our Creator for all HE's done"
Well, I guess that would be a mouthful to say to everyone...especially when we have our mouths full of great food! I hope you all have grateful hearts today, and delicious food, and that we ALL remember our blessings.......even as we miss, SO MUCH, those who aren't here with us today, maybe for the first time in many years. Please remember Mr Z as you remember your loved ones, too. I'd appreciate that.

Here's something I was sent last week and I wanted to share it with you:
I am thankful.....
-for the wife who says it's hot dogs tonight...because she's home with me and not out with someone else.
-for the husband who's on the sofa being a couch potato, because he's home with me and not out at the bars.
-for the teen who's complaining about doing dishes because it means she's at home and not on the streets
-for the taxes I pay because it means I'm employed
-for the mess to clean after a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends
-for the clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat
-for my shadow that watches me work because it means I am out in the sunshine
-for a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home
-for all the complaining I hear about the government because it means we have freedom of speech
-for the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot because it means I am capable of walking and have been blessed with transportation
-for my huge heating bill because it means I am warm
-For the lady behind me in church who sings off key because it means I can hear
-for the pile of laundry and ironing because it means I have clothes to wear
-for weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day because it means I have been capable of working hard
-for the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it means I'm alive
and I am thankful for the crazy people I work with because they make work interesting and fun!
and, finally, for too much email and so many comments at my blog because it means I have friends who're thinking of me

Have a thankful day. Z

I won't get to down today over anything (even the pitiful Detroit Lions) as rumor has it, there will be mashed patatoes at some point. Happy Thanksgiving Z!

You are all so kind...I am so SO thankful for you all.

But, I have to say that DaBlade put such a smile on my face!
..Because I've been known to order certain dishes in a restaurant BECAUSE the side dish was MASHED POTATOES!
That really made me laugh, which is a very good thing :-)

A PUBLIC THANKS TO ELMERS BROTHER:

I want to thank Elmers Brother publicly, here, for having taken an incredible photo of Mr and Mrs Z last Spring at the Santa Monica bluffs....it's a photo my whole family now keeps of us and that I have on my coffee table in the living room and look at when I can...which isn't often because looking at my dear man hurts me too much. But, I am SO GRATEFUL for that picture.

Thank you, Z, for carrying on as you are doing. It aids and inspires all who know you.

Take care, and know that you are admired, respected and loved by many.

Mr. Z is proud of you. I say is and not was, because he continues to live as long as you remember him with love and gratitude. His spirit is with you, even though he has gone to be with the Lord.

If this doesn't seem to make sense, please remember that "with God all things are possible."

Well Miss Z.,
We served macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes today, too, along with a lovely turkey and cornbread dressing.

Now personally , I think that gravy is one of the better aspects of Thanksgiving.

And yes, I am thankful , for all I have and continue to have in this great country.

Thanks, FT...today was easier than it might have been because I'm lucky enough to have a big, talkative, happy family; they are all so supportive and kept my mind otherwise occupied (and my MOUTY, too!)

Turkey, corn, sweet potatoes mashed with banana (new recipe my cuz brought, TRY IT, it's great), MASHED POTATOES and GRAVY, cran sauce, two types of stuffing, baked cut up root veggies with small onions, etc... rolls, some weird red jello mold that's apparently a hold-over from my aunt's family cuz she makes it every year and every year I don't have any :-)...AND Beaujolaise Nouvau vin rouge...mmm

me, too, Elbro.

WVDOTTR, sounds delicious...

I HOPE EVERYONE HAD A VERY NICE DAY

Z,
Sorry I'm late but I wasn't on the computer yesterday. I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving and yes I kept Mr.Z in my thoughts along with my dad. Two great men looking down on us. We can't lose.

I'm late here, but I'm glad to hear your Thanksgiving was a good one. I must admit I was a little bit worried, but I'm glad to hear it was a good one.

L&0 and CUBE...how very very kind of you both to keep me in your thoughts.
I know that prayer and the thoughts of good friends are lifting me up.

Since Mr. Z wasn't America, it wasn't QUITE the emotional day Christmas will be. I will be blogging on Christmases with Mr. Z fairly soon........you'll see why this is going to be VERY TOUGH. Am debating whether or not I get a tree this year...methinks it'll be yes. Tears will fall, but his kids deserve a Christmas tree. And, the thought of my not having Mr. Z upstairs in our office to yell up to... saying "Honey, come see the tree!!" destroys me, but ....we'll see.

thank you, both. xx
