Describe for us your favorite meal that you stop for on your way home when you really want to have 'that'............what is it!?   Describe that dinner!

I'm looking forward to your answers!

Pizza! There are so many varieties now. I typically opt for home delivery -- unless we avail ourselves of the offerings at Ledo's.

The favorite such food of the AOW household used to be take-out Chinese. But the past few years, one of my Chinese clients -- from China -- fixes us at least one meal a week. It's REAL Chinese food!

Z - My very favorite take out food is Chinese. At the other place we used to get it occasionally and it was always a treat. So far we haven't done it here.

Barbecue!!

Tender, smoked brisket, sliced thin.
Pork ribs, slow smoked so the meat just falls off the bone, with the perfect sauce for dipping....
Fresh, crisp Cole slaw and creamy, tangy potato salad, with a piece of buttery Texas toast on the side....

Now I've done it. BBQ for lunch!!

My other favorite is beef fajitas from a family-owned TexMex joint.

FROM GEEEZ at work:

Jen, you got my mouth watering...that's the ticket!
I'll have to wait and read them right before lunch in six hours!

THanks...keep goin', everybody :-)

I love Chinese food. I also love pizza. I'm torn between the two.

BTW any food that saves me from having to make dinner will get my vote too.

If you want to know the truth (few do, of course, no matter what they say, but here goes anyway ;-), I don't like TAKE-OUT at ALL.

Food tastes much better to me if I eat it AT the restaurant. I've never understood why anyone would want to TRAVEL to an eatery, WAIT for the food, then CARRY it back home, DIRTY some dishes and EAT it lukewarm, or warmed over.

Chinese food in particular loses a lot of it's flavor and becomes limp, soggy and slimy, unless it goes straight from wok to plate. And besides, WHY would you want to have to do DISHES when you could get it all for the same price right AT the restaurant?

That said, I USED to enjoy having pizza DELIVERED, but, since diabetes set in a year or two ago, I'm not allowed to have it anymore (BOO HOO!), but it TOO tastes much better served hot out of the oven AT a good old-fashioned pizzeria where everything is homemade.

Since I am still in close touch with my authentic Italian ancestry, I only like CLASSIC pizza made with a thin crust, hand-tossed in mid air before it goes into the oven and gets blackened bubbles around the edges. This great treat is covered very lightly with imported olive oil, homemade Marinara sauce made with fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, freshly grated Romano cheese, and a light sprinkling of basil and oregano.

HAWAIIAN pizza? Good Lord! GIVE ME A BREAK.

What's next?

IRISH pizza covered with corned beef and cabbage and thin slices of boiled potato?

MAMMA MIA! FAITH an' BEGORRAH! and YIKES!!!

In a previous life it was carne adovada burritos from one of several excellent places in Albuquerque.

FROM GEEEZ..

Ducky, I LOVE anchovy pizza...hard to find anyone who'll eat it with me. One sis and I share that love.

FT...any pizza with ham and pineapple on it is NOT pizza; I agree.
But as far as take out...what a luxury to have delicious take out in your own house, in front of the TV, etcetc...live a little :-)

I'll be back later!

Thin crust, pepperoni, mushrooms and anchovies...delivered hot from 1/2 mile away.

And never from Dominos, Caesars, Pizza Hut or Papa Johns, the worst.

Anchovies are my favorite topping.

Well, we agree on the important things, z.

FROM GEEEZ:

Krabby....you win, so far...I'm drooling :-)

Ducky...exactly! Just the thought of an anchovy pizza right now makes me realize I'll probably go by and get one tonight...mmm

I love Chinese,(home delivered). Also tacos from Taco Bell.

Anchovies? Since I have used live anchovies for deep sea fishing bait, somehow they don't appeal to me. Too fishy! HaHa.

Can you spell, Philly Cheese Steak? Barbecue is too important to trust to a take out joint.

Ducky's here said...

What type of Chinese, Pris?

Spicy?

Jen said...

Bob, lol! Yes, we must never underestimate the importance of barbecue. I don't know where you live, but Texas Monthly magazine recently hired their first Barbecue Editor.

Finally the media focuses on important issues! ;-)

Ducky,
Chinese noodles, beef-broccoli, cashew chicken, egg fried rice, szechuan shrimp, etc.
Oh my gosh, I'm getting hungry!!

I have three great BBQs in the neighborhood. The pork ribs are outstanding in all three. You don't have to worry about running into any RagHeads either!

From Z at work:

Bob, I adore a good Philly Cheese Steak and we had a fabulous one here in Santa Monica, where the ex-Philadelphia boy (owner of the restaurant, THE SHACK) got his rolls FROM Philly! These were delicious cheese steaks because of the bread.
Sadly, he sold the place.

I can't comment at your blog from here, but I sure do like your post on Putin; good job. I agree 1000%. I wonder why his last name isn't his dad's last name? Do they take their mom's names in Russia, maybe? ?

FROM GEEEZ:

Hi, Pris!
Would you believe I was here at 6:30 and have a 4pm meeting :-(!?
Anyway...the next two days are EASY STREET (will email you why) so I can't complain!

Anyway...I love Chinese food, too...one very nearby me has a crispy beef in an 'almost spicy' sauce with cilantro...it is DIVINE. I can't eat too spicy and this one's perfect. Everyone I introduce it to loves that dish.
Also, I love the way the Chinese do string beans...

All the stuff you mentioned is SO good...Mr. Z LOVED Kungpao Chicken...his last dinner was from the Chinese nearby; a very spicy soup full of noodles and strips of beef and spinach. So ironic when you consider how much I cooked...but, we were tired after a day at Cedars and stopped by for dinner there. Weird.

Pris said...

Hi Z,
Looks like you'll be at work for 12 hours! I'm glad you'll be looking forward to Easy Street! I'll be looking for your email.

The thing about Chinese food is, there's so much to choose from. Something for anybody, or everybody!

Well, let's face it. We've cooked thousands of meals, it's time to sit back and enjoy takeout! Right?

Broasted 4 piece chicken dinner with broasted potato wedges, and garden salad with feta and greek dressing. With Texas toast.
or a Rio Wraps "Holey Moley" (bbq is involved).

ED!! WAAAAAAAAAAAY too healthy! :-)
but sounds good!
When it's TAKE OUT, I've got to splurge and eat something BAD FOR ME...except, in about 30 minutes, I'm going to have my Thai noodles and chicken and broccoli from the local Thai!!!

mmmmmmmmmm

bon appetit, everybody! Thanks for great input! FUN!

Ms. Z shouldn't eat so late, Confucius say make tummy unhappy.

Z: I don't know what it is with you and WordPress blogs. Gremlins must be hiding in your PC. You didn't spill water on your machine, did you? That'a how gremlins multoply.

Thanks for the good words on my Putin blog. The whole thing was intended to be tongue in cheek, but all the stuff I made up sounds realistic, like how he broke classmates fingers in grammar school to get their lunch money.

Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin's father was Vladimir Spiridonovich Putin. Same last name. However, the middle name is actually a patronym, i.e., the name of a male ancestor like one's father.

Putin's grandfather was probably named, Spirodon, or something like that.

Tanks, Z, for this fun change of pace durng these grim and discouraging times.

We really NEEDED a good healthy dose of frivolity, as you wisely perceived.

Dave Miller said...

Z, I asked my wife your question and she said Chinese... I asked her why it wasn't pizza, which she also loves and she responded, "I don't do takeout pizza, I have it delivered."

I laughed, but you know, she's right, as she usually is.

For me, it's a pastrami sandwich... when I lived in So Cal, it was from The Hat... Garfield and Valley

Mr. Bayside will pop over to the new Pizza place around the corner if he thinks I'm not looking. No exceptions. I hold out for the very occasional but divine lasagne takeout from Fritto Misto, with a garlic cream and tomato sauce topping.

Z said...

Krabby...Z is in L.A....it wasn't that late :-)

Bob, it's because I was at work and it doesn't know my computer there...tho I haven't much luck with WordPress, it's getting better

Dave...I don't know that place, but pastrami's great, isn't it.
And, yes, your wife's right! But I have to admit I do stop and get pizza from a fabulous place nearby ,,,where Mr. Z used to go.

Bayside...I'm delighted to hear there's something you like at Fritto Misto!

FT...absolutely. Much needed!

The food from the halal truck is outstanding.I wish I had a lunch break.

There is a truck that sells lobster rolls in NYC. Maybe, I'll go on my day off.
