The SURGE........but, not so fast

SURGE: (from the Random House Dictionary)
Any sudden, powerful increase..to rise suddenly or strongly.
But, our Afghanistan 'surge' won't be complete (if all goes well) now until AUGUST. Did you hear that? Here's the information. WHAT? Did they review details before they made the decision to call this a surge and to promise immediate action? Another "Oops...we should have looked into this" moment?
The soldier in the picture is the Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman, Admiral Mike Mullens......Well, I guess the enemy knows when we're coming, how we're coming, and when we're leaving........it can't be too big a surprise to THEM to find we won't be there quite as fast as planned.

Z, maybe my browser went wonky earlier but on my past visit here your site didn't look right.

It's apparently working now just fine and all looks good!

whew! Thanks, Steve..you had me a little worried there! :-)

If it takes the full complement to arrive there by next fall, how can we even think there will be a withdrawal in July 2011?

And why is all this being broadcast across the world? Even Obama's vacillation on his decision was a daily public conversation.

The only time we've had transparency from this administration is when we shouldn't.

This is a heck of a way to fight a war.

Pris, I had the same thought..it's like leaving before you GOT there!

Obama's very uncomfortable with the idea of victory. I'm sure he'll find a way to fail miserably.

It's going to take until August? What, are they swimming over? Obama should just pretend he is deploying ACORN and the panthers to a polling booth and then we'd get quick action from him.

Bloviating Zeppelin said...

We left out a few things that need to be included: the names and addresses of all the soldiers involved, height, weight, dates of birth, times of deployment, specific troop strength, number of rifles and types of weapons deployed, times of arrival of troops' planes, names of base where the planes will land, flight itineraries, further types of equipment utilized (number and types of tanks, tracked and armored vehicles), and then, once present, when and where they are to be used via which road and at what time of the day.

I mean, SHEESH, can't we PLEASE go into a little more detail for the Islamists?? They could USE a little more help here. . .

The proposed surge is not really a surge for victory. See this.

Immediate action? What they can't transport thousands of troops and the necessary logistical support over night?

Debbie said...

That's why we all wanted Obama to make his decision months ago when the General first made his request. You can't make a decision one day and suddenly have all those troops on the battle field the next day. There are logistics which take lots of time. They will get their in time to start packing up again.

Always, they just DON"T GET WAR, we're in the hands of a school kid who thinks all war is bad. Where do you go from here?

Ducky...think. ...AUGUST is what the information is...there's a big difference betweeen overnight and AUGUST of NEXT YEAR.

Debbie, I'm afraid you're right

President Obama can't even bring himself to admit losing Tajikistan and Uzbekistan as forward supply bases so that now our troops primarily supply lines truck from ports on Pakistan's coast through Taliban controlled areas in the NWFP (where they are undefended and attacked daily) is almost as much assistance to Al Qaeda as when Clinton gave air support to terrorists against Serbia.

All in all, Obama's set to raise the bar Democrats have on which Democrat President is the all-time most imbecilic.

ah yes the terrorist in the WH will make sure we lose!

Ducky's here said...

We lose what?

You mean we aren't going to kill all the Taliban and establish a central government in a nation that has never had one in recorded history?

Only an American would have the hubris to believe that can be done and only a right winger would be so far off in the ozone that they think it can be done militarily.

I'm curious, what would be some of the parameters of "victory"?

Maybe we can make them tired of making money being heroin dealers to the world. In a country with 60% unemployment it should be easy to make them give up their one solid source of income, correct?

Z said...

See, Ducky, SOME of us thinking getting attacked again here will be 'losing'...

See, some of us understand that these people want YOU DEAD and we feel (talk to soldiers, even CNN had a hard time at Thanksgiving finding guys not feeling it's right to be there) we have to stop them there as best we can.

Who would you fight, Ducky? OR wouldn't you? Just let them training camps continue?

Of course, there are apparently quite a few camps in New York, and we don't have the khutspa to get them there, so that lack of will is also going to make us losers.

But, Americans don't give up, Ducky, never give up trying to protect this country from harm from the outside. We need to get tougher, no doubt about that.

The ditherer in chief strikes again.

Either get all in or get all out. I'm sick of this crap.

Pris is right. The only time we have transparency from BO's administration is when we shouldn't.

BO manages to throw a wrench into the works whenever he can screw American interests.

I'm not convinced, z. Never mind that the 9/11 planning took place in Germany, I'm curious why they haven't just moved the "planning" elsewhere. There are any number of places that they can sit down and do this so called planning.

No, there is clearly something else at play here but I'm not sure what it is. Clearly the right doesn't either.

When I saw this in the news yesterday, I was just plain baffled. He either does not understand or truly does not care at all. I tend to believe it is the latter. He will do anything to undermine the safety of this country. Once his brothers win against us he can just say he tried, but he inherited this mess and it is Bushes fault.

Brooke...I"m SO on your side. Get in BIG and get out. Or don't go in. BUT....

Also, I know some might disagree, but the Afghans want peace and all we hear about are the Taliban. Afghanistan is really a bunch of tribes within a sort of border which means little there...highly financed by the opium trade, which isn't good for anybody BUT the villages for money. Let's get them another way to produce money.

If we help them build....send the Peace Corps, send Americans who don't have jobs building, educating, helping....that would show our hearts are in the right place. THIS might be a place to put our Stimulus money. It would give jobs, it would show good will, etc. Sure, we need troops there defending these people I'd send in, but nobody would HAVE to go...

Petreus today said we must get the people on board..without that, we're spinning our wheels (that's my addition, not his). He says that this is happening, but I think it would be a LOT cheaper to send in supplies and ways to succeed on their own, ergo showing our good will, than sending a bunch of our precious blood there to possibly die.

Afghanistan was a tremendously sophisticated civilization, it can be again. It's these Taliban and Village war lords keeping her down.

Hamas wins friends by giving to the Palestinians....Taliban's doing that in Afghanistan; we've got to be the ones regarded as the ones looking out for them.

Okay: TAKE YOUR SHOTS. it's just a thought I've had.

Ducky..STOP with the planning of 9/11 in Germany...you make it sound like these were Horst and Klaus from Dusseldorf, not Muslims trained in camps. thanks.

Why are the Taliban so twisted in their world views? How did they get this way? I'm curious.

Honestly, they shouldn't be in charge of a colony of cockroaches, much less a group of people.

Z said...

CUBE...ISLAM. And their rowdies within. How'd Hamas get that way? How'd Timothy McVEIGH get that way?

Odd, when I lived in Paris, I coveted getting VANITY FAIR for something to read (had to pay $16 an issue, I think it was)...I liked it then. Well, Gore Vidal did an article on his friend McVeigh...his sister told Vidal that Tim had been hanging with Arab looking men for weeks before the bombings.. I can't for the life of me find that article...but it was just before 9/11 and I remember digging that up again while in Paris and reading it again and getting goose bumps. I'd LOVE to find that..have Googled but for naught.

I think that said a lot.
The religion of peace is out there to get us.

Taliban, I suppose, predates 9/11, but I guess it relates to the islamist radical bunch and so seems to be less for their people than fighting anybody who wants to bring peace and prosperity to their people.
You make a good point..but......who knows?

Were they dark skinned or keeping a low profile in Oklahoma by wearing bisht and a gutra. What was "Arab looking"?

Too much, z.

Ducky, how the hell do I know what characteristic she meant? You can't tell an Arab that looks out of sync with the community? REALLY?
