Because I have been feeling so rotten, I've watched a lot of television the last few weeks... Here are some of the things on television these days:
Bridezilla:(profanity warning) Nasty, spoiled bride fights with fiance over her cell phone the whole day, calling him the F word in a million variations. Her father, at the reception, presents the groom, in a speech before everyone, a "pair of nuts, because you'll need them now that you're married to her." The bride proceeds to ruin her new husband's wedding day by taking him aside and, again using the F words in amazing ways, accuses him of having F'd a girl he was dancing with at the reception..... He is stunned, saying "You have to start this now, on our wedding day?" In the limousine later, the cameras catch her totally drunk, head hanging down, mascara dripping to her chin, looking like she'd died 3 days ago ....somehow, she says "I'm so f...wasted....are you gonna have sex with me tonight?" "I hope to," the groom says. Further previews of this show, teasers, show a woman screaming "Too expensive? Don't you WANT me to be totally happy on MY SPECIAL DAY?" And the man still marries her.......
Then there's MY FAIR WEDDING, where some guy throws lavish weddings for couples (who PAYS?). 90% of the couples I saw were tattoo'd from one end to the other, beautiful white gowns marred by 'artwork' all over the bride's arms and backs. 50% of the couples I saw had already had a child, and everyone thought that was "so wonderful!"!
The show PROPERTY VIRGINS has a hostess who was so surprised at a couple buying a house who haven't lived together yet that she says, kind of shocked... "WELL! Well, that's very sweet...another alternative!" I'm not kidding. A few of the couples are living together, have a child and are buying a house but "aren't ready for the commitment of marriage." There are more gay couples looking for homes together than I've ever known and my career involved tons of gay people. What's UP? (so to speak?)
Two TALK SHOWS in the last two days had men and women who have come out of the closet....one was an athlete, one was an actress. They were announced with an introduction about their being gay and how they've come out so bravely, etc...........then they're coming out from the wings to the hostess and the audience bursts into applause as if they cured cancer.....WHAT? Live your life, who CARES that you're gay; why's that make you special?
I guess producers of these shows are liberals and think this is cute, but, while I'm no prude, this stuff really got to me. Have you seen things like this? Do you think we can get people back to gentility, loveliness, propriety, morality........? Or am I too politically incorrect in even mentioning moral these days? What would a high school student define MORAL or GENTEEL as?
Any thoughts?

It's one of those cases where people old enough to have the maturity to condemn this schlock are also old enough to remember a time when nobody revelled in it.
I don't watch much television, largely because this crap or some variant thereof is on EVERY channel.
If only that tossed chair had killed Geraldo Rivera back in the day....
Well, I've never heard of any of these shows.
I do watch television: the news and reruns of certain shows such as "Law and Order:SVU" and "House." There is some profanity on the shows I watch, but very little.
I recall a time when saying "OMG" on television was a no-no. "Three's Company" broke that barrier.
Z,
Feel better soon!
I've just been really tired since the kids were home for our Christmas at Thanksgiving, and then this week I got the crud.
The new TV shows are appalling! Even the commercials are! I saw one for Progressive Car Insurance that had the innuendo that he is gay. Give me a rerun of L&O! The older ones are better than the newer ones.
.WHAT? Live your life, who CARES that you're gay; why's that make you special?
--------------
Coming out makes you special because it flips the digit to the bigots who want you in the closet.
The producers of these shows are businessmen, right wing capitalists who want to make a buck and to do that in the market you MUST appeal to the least common denominator.
You really should tie a can on this nonsense of blaming the nasty leftists because flyover country is filled with gun loons, NASCAR mavens and tattoo artists.
Why is it that baseball players haven't found the tattoo craze? Right wing football is full of these idiots and basketball is still trying to lose the gangsta, bad for business.
Those shows are bad indeed. I only saw Bridezilla a couple of times and it is terrible.
Now, Ducky's rant is so freaking dumb again. Associating those shows with NASCAR and guns.
God I can't take the immaturity anymore. So cliche, so useless.
America is full of decent people, Ducky, loving NASCAR or with guns.
You're just not part of them.
So go see a shrink or get laid. You don't have to think people are terrible b/c you're a despicable person.
Get a grip on your psyche, really.
Oh and baseball is where athletes are way overpaid. I still wonder why you accept such profit making there. Is it because you like overweight men?
Well, precious Z, first: I'm so sorry to hear you're still feeling poorly. Second, what channels are you watching?? I mean "Bridezilla?" What the HECK? Couldja not go for something like Man vs. Food (gauche as it may be) or even Ghost Adventures (my boys actually DVR this - yikes!).
You're right about the lack of morality/gentility, though. There are "shows" on Disney Channel/ABC Family that we don't allow our kids to watch. The utter lack of respect (for authority, for adults/parents/teachers), the total self-centeredness & elevation of "being famous" that's displayed on these "shows" is disgusting...ugh! It's no wonder that Bridezilla turned out like she did. She's been fed a steady diet of Madonna/Brittney Spears/& even Hannah Montanna all her life...jeepers!
(Caveat: I do admit...I am a prude. Or so say my big brothers.) ;)
Duck, these 'men' (producers) in Hollywood are Leftist, immoral-ists who are using the vehicle of capitalism to game into the social re-engineering that the Gov't has been angling after for decades. They're using it to push their Left-wing social/political agenda on the children of the 'huddled masses,' and ELEVATING the "lowest common denominator".
It used to be that TV/Media was used judiciously to elevate that which is healthy, good, productive (think Cleaver, Andy Griffith, Cosby...). With so many parents of said children buying into the infant daycare/cradle-to-grave nanny state mentality, I'd wager that the Producer's slice of "rebuild America brick by brick" is going quite nicely. (Heaven help us!)
And anyone wonders why Homeschooling & Charter Schooling have become such 'trends?' (& why the Social Engineering - I mean Teacher's - Unions fight so hard against it...)
Nice try though.
Oh good grief! and so now the 'tattoo idiots' are all right wingers' 'fault?' Maybe I should ask my conservative Mormon friend what she thinks...she & all her family grew up in 'fly over' country. (Maybe that's why she wears long sleeves in June...hmmm...) ;)
Just one more fyi...I was born & raised deep in the very heart of NASCAR racin' country, & I ain't got no tattoos, neither!
They're using it to push their Left-wing social/political agenda on the children of the 'huddled masses,' and ELEVATING the "lowest common denominator".
Susannah, I really think they don't see it that way. I personally know how they think for knowing some personally and it's really about money making.
The typical lefty, most of the time, doesn't apply the principles he preaches to himself first.
We have an example here with Ducky who rants about profit all the time yet loves baseball, one of the sports worldwide where people are overpaid. Or rants about profit when his ratio real work for paid hours is fairly low due to time wasted on blogs, hence leading to a profit. Or I should say employer robbery or greed.
That's personally why I cannot stand the left. It's this permanent hypocrisy and utter lack of logic and principles.
They're just mouthpieces most of the time.
Frog~ Thanks for your thoughtful response.
"They're just mouthpieces most of the time." Yes. And that's exactly what I was trying to say. The additional point you make about $$ being the bottom line is, of course, true. You're speaking to the deeper spiritual problem that our country faces. And that, my friend, is a matter deserving considerable attention.
Duck, I live in fly-over land and I can tell you that the people here show more integrity in a day than you will see in a lifetime in the People's Repuiblik of Massachusetts's.
As far as TV, it's wasteland.
Z, as you know I work in the ER and so I deal with the public a lot. As a person who has been in Nursing for 13 years, I can tell you that civility is way down. It is stunning how comfortable people are with talking to our staff like they are dogs.
Quite frankly a lot of them are products of the Duckhead's utopian liberal dream. Most of them are people who grew up with having everything provided for them without working for it. They are left with an incredible sense of entitlement and if someone does not provide everything they need, at no cost, they become enraged.
I had a woman call because her 24 year old son (yes it was as pathetic as it sounds) was asked to put money down towards his ER bill as he was leaving. He did not have insurance and she was puzzled at the fact that it costed money to come to the ER. She actually told me that she has come in before without insurance and it did not cost her anything. She really could not wrap her head around the fact that the ER was not free.
These same people that will raise hell if they do not get incredible care from a service they are not paying for.
Maybe Susannah. But spirituality is an individual choice you can't require or regulate.
Unfortunately that's what the left is doing or wants to do by replacing their morality (profit is bad, high income is bad, etc...) and enforcing it via laws.
That's where they're tyrants in my book.
But as someone who wants to be logical with my principles, I also dislike when religion-based morality is used to legislate. I cannot stand Mike Huckabee in that regard.
Morality or moral principles imposed by the government are usually established for other purposes than making people better. It's a tool serving an elite or intelligentsia.
Like him or not, I must say I agree with Nietzsche on his take on morality.
I've noticed the exact same things, Z. Been irritated by this ever-growing trend for a very long time.
Again it's a KIND of Cloward-Piven thing only this time it doesn't involve MONEY so much as CULTURAL NORMS.
By redefining "normal" and "defining deviancy down" the Left as been so successful that most of us under the age of -- let us say 55 -- don't even begin to realize how DEBASED their standards have become.
I'm so old now that I actually REMEMBER when vulgarity was frowned upon and refinement was looked up to as an ideal goal.
In turning the culture upside down, inside out, and backwards the Left has succeeded in getting the majority of people to believe that black really IS white and vice versa.
Refinement, lofty ideals, subtlety, delicacy, tact and consideration are now regarded as quaint affectations and openly derided as a MASK designed to hide who we REALLY are -- i.e. coarse, profane, promiscuous, rude, selfish, greedy, irreverent, crude, careless monsters.
The extent to which the Leftist Agenda permeates Home and Garden TV -- which you'd THINK would be all about investing wisely in real property and doing interesting tasteful things to make houses more appealing -- is anything but. It's REAL purpose is to present inter-racial relationships, homosexual alliances, blacks, Hispanics, unmodulated speech, bad grammar, limited vocabulary, and downright ugly individuals as NORMAL, RIGHT, GOOD and FAIR. And then on HGTV we see lots of prosperous white "family" people showing themselves to be vain, shallow, vapid, spoiled, overly demanding, and rather silly.
We reached a point long ago where even those who think of themselves as "conservative" have unconsciously adopted the "new norms" with which the media has inundated us since mass entertainment became standard fare. I no longer believe the trend can be reversed. It came upon us so insidiously that even those of us who don't like what we see really don't know the HALF of it.
Sad!
~ FreeThinke
Was it the Smothers Bros. who were kicked off the air for just saying, 'W.C.', as in 'water closet'? If not them, I remember someone was.
Hey, Ducks, I'll bet that the producers of these shows are wacked-out left wing Dems who voted for O'Boob. What have you been inhaling???
The tattoed 'people' I've seen on the telly & the street didn't vote Republican. No way, Jose'! They probably couldn't find their way to a precinct (well, maybe the Police Precinct!) on a bet. I hope.
Silvrlady
I don't watch these kinds of television shows, but I wonder why one's sexual preferences is no longer a private thing ...
Ducky "The producers of these shows are businessmen, right wing capitalists who want to make a buck and to do that in the market you MUST appeal to the least common denominator."
Could you provide a list of all those Republican businessmen? thanks. That made me laugh out loud.
I don't blame the left for tattoos...actually, I don't remember if I blamed the left for any of the points in my post (feeling a little sensitive, are you?!) :-)
I don't even dislike all tattoos(except on cooking shows because the cooks look dirty to me while they're handling the food)
Linda, feel better soon.
AOW and Beamish; NOBODY watches this crap unless you've been in bed for a month and reading hurts.
FT, I agree with you.
Here's another thing that REALLY REALLY gets me. EVERY SINGLE TIME, they'll have a couple who get approved for, let's say, $250,000 by their bank. Then they say they also have $10K as a downpayment. Instead of finding somewhere for $250K and taking that $10K off so their payments are a little lower, they announce that the couple has $260K to spend. See what I mean? It used to be we paid a down payment to get the price DOWN so we could better afford it......!! Not anymore!
Mustang...indeed.
I'm watching the U.S. Senate channel on CSPAN, PLEASE watch it.
You'll see WHY DEMOCRATS ARE LIKE THEY ARE...THEY'RE DEAF! I FOUND THE REASON! THEY ARE TOTALLY DEAF!
I've been watching Mass. Rep Jim McGovern hear the Republicans explain over and over again, facts and figures, opening statements, reasons for what they're doing re the health care bill, and he just plows forward saying "Republicans don't care about people, Republicans don't want preexisting conditions covered..etc."
RIGHT AFTER THE REPUBLICANS SAID THEY DO WANT PREEXISTING CONDITIONS COVERED!
McGovern PLOWS on giving the media what they want......
I AM SO PROUD OF UPTON, FOXX, DREIER, KING AND THE OTHER REPUBLICANS..THEY ARE NOT LAYING DOWN AND PLAYING DEAD THIS TIME, THEY ARE GIVING FACTS, FIGURES, AND EVEN REMINDED THE COUNTRY THAT THERE WAS NOT ONE HEARING ON THE FINAL HEALTHCARE BILL. it's absolutely astonishing.
mcGovern hears NONE of it and plow along again as if he didn't hear...it's priceless. DEAF, who knew? :-)
Oh, US SENATE CHANNEL's goings-on are priceless!
The left squeezed that bill thru with ZERO hearings and the Dems are screeching that the Republicans don't understand that SOME PEOPLE DON'T LIKE THE BILL BUT THERE ARE PLENTY WHO DO.
"Hello, Democrats? The people spoke in November and polls still show YOU ARE WRONG, GET IT!? The MAJORITY don't like the bill........."! But, we know the majority doesn't count to the left anymore.
Seriously, if you can, put the channel on now, it's fabulous.
The Left just swished that bill by and now are FURIOUS that the Republicans want to REPEAL (tho the Dems have been assuring America the repeal won't work, so why are they so upset EXCEPT for media soundbite provision?) the bill.......saying the Republicans want it ALL THROWN OUT, when the Republicans keep saying they will repeal and then reinstall some of the provisions. Oh, poor lefties..they don't believe that the Reps will reinstall those points? Well, gee, the Republicans didn't believe the Left could go so far as passing a HUGE bill without them, either :-)
i hate to be so off topic on this but I have to.
Just saw Alcee Hastings..and NOW I get what the Left's doing;
he's reading numbers of people who won't get this for free, won't get that for free, will suffer if the Republicans repeal the bill (again ignoring EVERYTHING the Republicans have said previously).
This was all prepared by the Dems...Hastings is READING, so was McGovern on his statement.
It's all threats...the media's set to hear the stuff and print it and let's see if anything the Republicans are saying is quoted...it won't be.
OH, how effective the left is...and, when you've got the media, WOW, even more effective.
He's just reading and threatening the American people, this Hastings jerk, COMPLETELY ignoring what the Right has said.........got to get those soundbites out, lies or not.
Hastings just said how glad he is that there are cameras in the room (what did I say?!)
ANd McGovern, previously, had a great line "I've been angry about this but now I'm glad this meeting is happening so people can SEE the differences in the caring Democrats and the nasty ol' Republicans" ( I paraphrase, but that was the gist of it)
priceless..it's all been prepared, probably at the WH, and you have to give them credit for lying (oops! i mean TRYING)
All the Republicans can say now is "But, we said that's not true...but that's NOT what we said........but we DO NOT WANT that part changed, we'll put that back in...but.."
GAD, I wish the Republicans' statements were as sexy and witheringly dismissive as what the Dems are saying because the Republicans are making so much sense but the media will dwell on the left's prepared statements..DARN
Frog~ Excellent points re: 'legislating morality.' Your logic is very similar to my dear Libertarian friend, Sandy. I admit being conflicted about the issue; conflict arising from ours being a nation founded on Judeo-Christian principles, therefore our lawmaking & civil code should reflect such -- but increasingly does not.
However, the link I provided is a post that broadens the issue to a much more universal notion than just who governs us & in what fashion. See, government imo, is NOT our biggest 'problem' as a society. But that begs a topic which goes off course for the purposes of Z's post...
Z~ Alcee is back on script, "Victims unite against the big, bad Republicans..." Blah, blah, blah...broken record...
(You MUST be bored, dear...)
Z, the Dems will keep doing this.
But they can't do it too much.
If the Rep are smart, they'll explain it simply: "we're bankrupt or are going to be. Sooner or later, some people are going to suffer the consequences of the bankruptcy. The later we act the more people impacted."
Yesterday I listened to this female Dem moron from Florida who was saying the Rep were not focused on jobs and the economy. I had to laugh when I look at the deficit and unemployment numbers after 2 years.
Maybe they've been focused. In that case that means they suck the big one and are incompetent.
They're like their logo: a bunch of donkeys.
I admit being conflicted about the issue; conflict arising from ours being a nation founded on Judeo-Christian principles, therefore our lawmaking & civil code should reflect such -- but increasingly does not.
I don't think it's contradictory. We can't deny the judeo-christian background of the country, like we can't deny the islam background of Saudi Arabia.
But I look at it this way. Morality is fairly simple. Don't kill, don't steal.
Now one has to define "steal." The lefty think profit is robbery. But that's another discussion.
Overall anything that goes beyond those basic principles bug me. And I do think humans by nature respect those principles b/c it's easier to do so in order to be accepted by the group/tribe/clan/community and leave a happier and more peaceful life.
Judeo-Christianity is only a manifestation of that in my humble opinion.
Obviously I'm being simplistic. This debate is a major philosophical issue that a blog post/comment can't really address.
I don't watch that drivel, but I've heard of it mostly from watching The Soup mock it.
Ducky is such a moron. Does he introduce himself with his sexual preference?
I hope you're feeling better, Z!
You really should tie a can on this nonsense of blaming the nasty leftists because flyover country is filled with gun loons, NASCAR mavens and tattoo artists.
And here I thought it was filled with the poor, oppressed masses that leftists were going to unite to smash their oppressors.
Next on Mythbusters, Adam and Jamie try to find a leftist who can't be confused by a shoestring.
LOL! I love Mythbusters!
Z, I avoid those shows the same way I avoid Olbermann. They both make me feel dirty and despondent.
pbthththt! Too much drama and too many drama queens.
What is genteel? For me, it's what is simple. Consumerism and information overload have created a culture of degradation where more nastiness is "better". ick.
I'm with FrogBurger on the question of morality. Nietzsche speaks to me on this issue.
The thing that I've noticed is that as the number of channels available the flood of crap has grown deeper. I don't think it's accidental either. I'd ascribe it to a longer term idea that in order to undermine the existing values of a culture the attack should be focused on the examples of those values such as family or the family father figure. Cultural Marxism in action, I guess.
Nothing seems immune from the attack and oddly enough even President BO isn't above sticking his nose in it by praising the NFL for giving a convicted criminal a second chance ... the fine upstanding gentleman who throws footballs for a living while in his spare time enjoys brutalizing dogs. Not sure how many tats the man has, though.
Waylon
To me it's not a question of what is "moral" or "genteel." Even the title "Bridezilla" is clue enough that the show is going to be a spectacle of monstrous, uncouth, reprehensible behavior.
Unfortunately, there's a niche to fill there. It wouldn't be on the air were it not for a segment of the viewing population that wanted to see that sort of thing.
Then again, nearly half of the day on the channels this crap comes on is filled with paid advertisements. Bridezilla, brought to you by Stifferol, the male enhancement cream that doesn't make your hands bigger.
nothing decent at all girl..too frustrating eh!..HAPPY NEW YEAR!!..and don't let the insanity get ya down!
We have an example here with Ducky who rants about profit all the time yet loves baseball, one of the sports worldwide where people are overpaid.
---------------------
Well if most fans were like me it would change quickly. I don't subscribe to sports cable(I don't have cable, worthless). I listen on radio, old school.
I do attend games, bleacher seats generally and I don't drink the $6 watered down beer.
I'm the owners' worst nightmare.
I do like this right wing "thought". Anything they don't like in the world is the fault of the left. If it weren't for the left our culture would be open to Glenn Beck, O'Reilly and The Vulgar Pigboy(Rush). The right has a lot to answer for there and for someone to say that it's the left dumbing folks down, well the irony is thick.
Yes sir, it's the left that brought us the vampire fetish (how did that happen), attention deficit disorder action films, heavy metal and the rest of the junk that is consumed. But it was always like that, you always had to get off the path to find quality. It's just that the path is a lot wider these days.
Now why don't you all go back to "Swift Justice with Nancy Grace" or whatever is big in flyover country.
Doesn't matter Ducky. You're still feeding the bottom line and allow to pay overpaid players.
See that's your problem, leftists. You always find shades of gray when you need to justify your hypocrisy because you do not live up to your principles and demagoguery.
I don't watch "reality" shows much except for the ones on the cooking networks. Some of the bad behavior you see is a result of being on camera. The rest is just from a bad upbringing.
I do watch real reality on forensic shows on ID and CI channels. For pure escapism, I watch SyFy and Chiller.
I hope you feel better soon.
After reading so much derogatory crap from Ducky about the likes of Glenn Beck, "Pig Boy" and WND I decided to check for myself how awful those are. Came across an interesting piece from WND discussing the Council on Foreign Relations (GASP). I couldn't really detect any partisan political bias in the sense it names both Democrats and Republicans who are part of this disgusting cabal...
"Who are some of the past and present members of this anti-American operation? Dick Cheney, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, Donald Rumsfeld, Porter Goss, Alan Greenspan, John Bolton, Paul Wolfowitz, Gen. Richard B. Myers, Henry Hyde, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George Bush Sr., Sandra Day O'Connor, George Soros, Christopher Dodd, Diane Feinstein, Gerald Ford, Bill Frist, Newt Gingrich, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Katherine Harris, Teresa Heinz, Antonia Hernandez – President of Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Gen. John P. Jumper – current Air Force chief of staff, Joseph Lieberman, John McCain, Rupert Murdock, David Rockefeller, Diane Sawyer and Tony Snow."
Now I have to ask Ducky and the Ducklets what is the quibble with WND and this list in particular?
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?pageId=30874
Waylon
The Council on Foreign Relations is a networking club for the powerful.
At the top of the ladder, it's not about politics. It's how you can pocket as much money and influence as you can.
That's why I'm a Libertarian. I don't want those people to have too much power to influence our lives. They're corrupt.
"We can't deny the judeo-christian background of the country,"
Oh, but so many are VEHEMENT in their protestations that our country was so founded...And THAT's their basis (& their insistence) for removing morality from the public discussion, & from governmental actions. But I've digressed...
"But spirituality is an individual choice you can't require or regulate."
I know. That's why the issue is beyond the purview of government, as to render gov't irrelvant in the matter...but still...
I believe we're essentially talking about the same thing, but I don't have a whole lot of use for Nietzshe re: morality. But you're right - discussion for another place/time.
This is what speaks to me on morality & the broader spectrum of its effect on culture:
If there be righteousness in the heart, there will be beauty in the character.
If there be beauty in the character, there will be harmony in the home.
If there be harmony in the home,
there will be order in the nation.
When there is order in each nation there will be peace in the world.
AOW or who ever it was that was shocked by Property Virgins.
You have to remember Property Virgins is basically a Canadian show, filmed in Canada by a very liberal Canadian state run or subsidized media.
HGTV is one of the few channels that I do watch and yes they have drifted more to the left with each passing year that I have watched them. I gotta have my daily fill of decorating and how to or even how not to do shows.
The rest is History Channel , which now is more into revisionist history than actual history but occasionally they do manage to get it right. Then there are a few sports events, college football and basketball, NO PRO, it sucks with it's overpaid thugs and whiny ass overpaid momma's boys. Yea, Duck I even watch NASCAR when I'm in the mood or when I can't be there in person to watch the event. Oh, and Duck, around the world more than a time or two and still no tattoo's even though they were the rage with most of us GI's in the 60's and so.
I don't watch much on Tv. It's all so coarse and shallow, it's a big turn off. People willing to humiliate themselves for a few minutes on TV is not my cup of tea.
I've turned on some new show to check it out, and can sum it up in five minutes, and off it goes.
My yardstick for a comedian is, if he's funny without the four letter words, he's talented. If he has to resort to four letter words to get a laugh, he's a dime a dozen.
Sometimes I think alot of people don't even know what humor is.
As for gentility, I've found that because I talk with people without using four letter words, they get it pretty quickly.
I don't go around telling people how to talk, they just notice I don't use that kind of language, and seem to respect that and refrain from it.
I believe it's up to women to set the standards of civil behavior. Somewhere along the line that was lost I'm sad to say.
Beamish is right. I remember that time when young men watched their language around us girls. That's what it was like. It was very nice to be treated with respect, and be made to feel special.
Well, that's gone for our young women today. How we're treated is up to us. What we'll accept is up to us too.
Now, instead of teaching manners and observing them, we have laws or work rules instead. Hate speech, sexual harassment, hostile environment in the workplace, etc.
What are children to think when tv is full of junky, vulgar shows? Better to buy videos of the old Disney movies, and carefully choose entertainment for them yourself.
It's all in how children are raised, what they hear at home, what they're allowed to say, what they're allowed to be exposed to, and how to treat others. That's where it starts.
Pris
Well that's true, Frog but humans want entertainment and leisure time. That's part of mine. Has been ever since the da took me to a game when I was 4.
I can't do much about the economics of the game anymore than I can the economics of the art market.
I'm curious that a freedom maven like yourself would call them overpaid. The market sets the price so all is well, right?
Heck, what does The Vulgar Pigboy get paid? Or Glenn Beck, he off the low ratings.
"Property Virgins" is Canadian? Who knew. I have to visit a right wing blog and get lectured by "don't mess with Texas" to find out these shows exist.
Heck, what does The Vulgar Pigboy get paid?
Michael Moore has a net worth of over $50 Million, and rakes in around $30,000 for every speaking engagement he participates in.
Waylon,
You're SPOT ON the RIGHT TRACK with your observations about the CFR.
It AIN'T the R's and D's anymore; it's what-I-call the OLIGARCHS.
When you find Dick Cheney and John Bolton in bed with the likes of Jimmy Carter, and Bill Clinton in the context of a semi-secret, elitist organization, you KNOW that "something is rotten in the state of Denmark" only "Denmark" has moved to DeeCee.
Please don't forget the Bilderbergers, the International Order of Freemasons, Skull and Bones either. They're all tentacles of the same giant octopus that's trying to eat the free world alive.
HGTV is just a tiny fragment of a very obvious LEFT WING conspiracy to CHANGE the CULTURE. Maybe these leftists really do believe they have taken the moral high ground in all of this, but I can smell a POWER GRAB more easily than most of us can detect the odor of cat's pee under the sofa.
As far as civility goes, we started to lose our way the moment the left started to define politeness as "hypocrisy" and taught the young to act accordingly.
~ FreeThinke
Please don't forget the Bilderbergers, the International Order of Freemasons, Skull and Bones either. They're all tentacles of the same giant octopus that's trying to eat the free world alive.
Don't forget, aluminum foil actually amplifies the effects of the New World Order's orbital mind control lasers. You need genuine tin foil, which is why the Illuminati took it off the market in the 1950s.
I'm curious that a freedom maven like yourself would call them overpaid. The market sets the price so all is well, right?
You're right. If the team makes a profit at the end of the day, and a player brings millions in revenue, then he's not overpaid.
By overpaid, I meant mostly gigantic contract for just hitting a ball :)
My favorite shows are all food related. Top Chef, Next Food Network Star, Iron Chef, etc...
Makes me want to eat all the time.
It's that or news (a lot less now b/c it's the same bullcrap all the time), or football or soccer.
I'm just glad I am not paying for cable b/c it's too expensive for 5 commercials every 5 minutes. I can't take that anymore.

Oh, GAG. I absolutely loathe "reality" shows and refuse to watch them. And they seem to be on every friggin' channel!
And sorry, but I am so sick of flaming gay men on TV. What is with that?
I love history, but on History Channel, half the time they have stupid crap on that has NOTHING to do with history (e.g., Ax Men, Ice Road Truckers).

DAVID ROCKEFELLER THANKS THE MEDIA FOR ITS SILENCE
If you are opaque enough to imagine there could be nothing to the idea that a cabal of international bankers, financiers, captains of industry, and controllers of the supply of vital raw materials, consider these words from one of the world’s most influential and diabolical members of the international power elite representing the world’s banking cabal in charge of the prophetic one world government movement.
“… it would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government …”
~ David Rockefeller in Baden-Baden, Germany 1991, thanking major media for keeping secret for decades the machinations of those determined to establish a New World Order -- i.e. One World Government.
Ron Paul and his followers understand how this nation has been led down the garden path by power mad internationalists who have no allegiance to this country at all, but only to the advancement of their own all-consuming ambition to dominate and control the entire world.
It's all about MONEY and POWER. Conflicting ideologies are used by these would-be oligarch to confuse the people and draw their attention away from the REAL source of most of what seems so terribly wrong.

Z,
If it's any comfort to you, Mildred Pierce is scheduled at TCM sometime tomorrow morning. ;-)
I take refuge in old black and white movies from the '30s and 40's, C-Span, Bret Baer's nightly news report on FOX, Classic Arts Showcase, occasional Nature and NOVA programs, and the increasingly rare opera or symphony concert on Public Television are about all I watch anymore. The Cable supplies us with over EIGHT-HUNDRED channels and I swear NINETY-PERCENT of it belongs in a SEPTIC TANK.
I do hope you well get well very soon, Z. Sickness of any kind is horrible. When it lasts a long time, it's almost unbearable. You have my sympathy.

Mockery is not a legitimate tool of argument. Neither is an outward show of hostility.
Civility requires at least a semblance of respect for one's opponents at all times.
Okay. Let's begin in the realm of inarguable reality. Common ground we can start from.
The grass is green. The sun is bright. Ron Paul is an idiot.
If you want to contest reality, you're very much worthy of mockery.
Shove it DUCKASS!
"Please don't forget the Bilderbergers, the International Order of Freemasons, Skull and Bones either. They're all tentacles of the same giant octopus that's trying to eat the free world alive."
FT, of course an individual can get called a conspiracy theorist and worse for even pointing to the existence of "secret societies" but IMO reality demands that the reality of the real world be recognized. Is it better to deny the existence of these secret societies and let them lord it over the rest of the world?
I'm not sure about the Masons, although they are a secret society and have some strange rituals which must be followed especially by those who are on the rise through the ranks. If the research done by Dan Brown is accurate for hos "The Lost Symbol" Washington was laid out by the freemasons among the Founding Fathers and many of those founders belonged to that society. So I'll withhold judgment on them until I see absolute evidence that all Masons belong in the same boat.
But this much I am convinced of: The CFR is the hornets nest and therein lies the Queen Bee, the mother of all evil being perpetrated upon the world today.
Waylon
Bilderberg is quite different than Free Masons, etc.
I would not write them off quite so quickly, nor the Trilateral COmmission, whose membership would blow your mind.
Z, I wouldn't write of the groups you mentioned either. I hope I didn't give that impression. Most of the groups mentioned are all interconnected in the sense that their members belong to several of said groups.
I remember reading something a while ago by David Frum, who said he had attended a Bilderberg meeting at the invitation of Conrad Black the media mogul doing some time in the land of the free and home of the brave. They both contend those meetings are boring to the core and nothing happens except those blathering on about "issues". On the other hand the same members seem to attend every year, so for my part why would all those people fly across the globe to be bored to tears?
Waylon
"They also understand the moon landings were faked with technology exploited from the wreckage of UFOs in Roswell, New Mexico."
Beamish, I always thought Ron Paul seemed kind've flaky, if this is true, it pretty much confirms it.
Did Paul say this publicly? I never heard it before.
Pris
Pris,
No. Ron Paul never said that. That was my light-hearted attempt at mocking the mendacious slimeball.
To get a sense of how ridiculous Ron Paul and his sub-imbecilic supporters are (as if his undeniable support among anti-Semites, white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and 9/11 troofers wasn't enough of an indicator) all you have to do is spend a few hours perusing his media appearances and written statements.
Ron Paul's views have no place outside a Ku Klux Klan meeting. No intellectually honest, respectful, well considered discussion of Ron Paul can commence without acknowledging that the man is a buffoon.
Thank you, Z, for mentioning the Tri-Lats. That was the one name I was searching for last night and couldn't come up with. (No doubt "the little grey cells" must be weakening a bit with age! ;-)
And thanks again, Waylon, for saying what someone desperately needs to say. Your remarks about the interrelationship of these several mysterious organizations-- all of which contain members who are SUPPOSED to be fiercely at ODDS with one another, but apparently do a lot of back scratching in these private meetings -- is very helpful.
When you think about it, wouldn't it be unlikely that super-rich, extremely well-connected, extraordinarily powerful, highly privileged, overly-ambitious, enormously influential, individuals -- most of whom belong to the same organizations and have attended the same set of schools -- would NOT get big ideas, develop megalomania, and decide to push their considerable advantages to the hilt?
Why would they NOT court the likes of Oil Sheikhs and other owners and controllers of the supply of raw materials? Why would they NOT assume their exalted, over-privileged, mutually-congratulatory selves were better capable of running your affairs than you are?
If anyone really listened to the Republican primary debates, Ron Paul was the ONLY candidate who made clear, convincing unequivocal responses to the questions asked without fear or favor. Probably because he knew positively he could not win the nomination, he spoke candidly, and gave straight-from-the-shoulder views about the limits put on government by the Constitution and the fallacy of departing from George Washington's famous advice "to avoid foreign entanglements."
Ron Paul is a medical doctor, and is so well regarded in his home district that he has been re-elected MANY times with virtually no meaningful opposition.
His son, Dr. Rand Paul, who holds virtually the same views as his father, was backed by The Tea Party and just had a significant victory in Kentucky. He too was reviled -- by his D'Rat opponent and many of the fiends in the media -- as a racist, a bigot, an anti-Semite, an extremist and probably a homophobe too for all I know.
The Devil and the Satanists who follow him shout their loudest, breathe fire, gnash their fangs, and bare their claws the most when they feel THREATENED with EXPOSURE. They mock, scorn and loudly denounce anyone who looks as though he might become a danger or an impediment to their evil ends -- and to them that is any who has the temerity even to dare to question their motives.
The louder they shout, and the nastier and more derisive the become the greater is their degree of FEAR.
Of one thing I am reasonably sure:
If the Marxicrats, the Media and the Mrs. Grundy's don't like you, you've just GOT to be AOK. And when those forces do everything possible to MARGINALIZE someone and portray him or her not only as a "dangerous " character but also as a" kook," a "flake," or a member of "the lunatic fringe," then you ought to KNOW that THAT person is the one you REALLY should want to see elected to high office.
BUT, as Shakespeare famously said, "What fools these mortals be!" That's why we get the kind of government we perpetually rail against.
~ FreeThinke
Yeah, FeebThinker, it's the Martians and their nasty hypno-ray laser what made poor ol' Ron Paul publish vile, racist filth in his name and in his newsletters in the 1980s and 1990s.
It's those reptiloids from Planet Zion that makes neo-Nazis raise money for Ron Paul, and force him to associate with all manner of kookery.
It's a naughty confluence of dark conspirators in the basement of the Bilderburg Hotel what makes Ron Paul pander to Alex Jones and his army of 9/11 troofers as they smoke joints with Jesse Ventura and dream of exposing how Karl Rove planted dynamite in the World Trade Center to make Osama bin Laden look bad.
Poor innocent Ron Paul. People mock and bedevil the old coot because they have flouride in their water supply.
Now, let's be serious:
If anyone really listened to the Republican primary debates, Ron Paul was the ONLY candidate who made clear, convincing unequivocal responses to the questions asked without fear or favor. Probably because he knew positively he could not win the nomination, he spoke candidly, and gave straight-from-the-shoulder views about the limits put on government by the Constitution and the fallacy of departing from George Washington's famous advice "to avoid foreign entanglements."
I've known since my own days active in the Libertarian Party (and quitting in disgust in 1988) that Ron Paul is one irredeemably stupid, unelectable racist Presidential candidate regardless of what party he's running in. Even knowing this, from seeing with my own eyes and hearing with my own ears years ago how insipidly clueless this man is, I listened to Ron Paul in the 2008 Republican primaries.
I heard him blame the 9/11 attacks on American foreign policy - his mindless "blowback" theory that we invited terrorist attacks upon ourselves ld get the impression that A Ron Paul administration would nominate Osama bin Laden to be his foreign policy adviser.
So, American involvement in the Middle East caused Islamic terrorist attacks on our soil?
Okay, what caused Islamic terrorist attacks in Sweden?
Why am I even dignifying this idiot with criticism? He's self-refuting even without dragging his white supremacist financiers into the light.
No, FeebThinky, sometimes the marginalized are precisely the racist scum you DON'T want anywhere near power.
I don't fear Ron Paul. I just wish he'd stop calling himself a libertarian and a conservative, when he's the furthest thing from either of those.
Garbage in.
Garbage out.
RON PAUL on RACISM:
Racism is simply an ugly form of collectivism, the
mindset that views humans strictly as members of
groups rather than individuals. Racists believe that all individuals who share superficial physical
characteristics are alike: as collectivists, racists think only in terms of groups.
By encouraging Americans to adopt a group mentality, the advocates of so-called "diversity" actually perpetuate racism. Their obsession with racial group identity is inherently racist.
The true antidote to racism is liberty. Liberty means having a limited, constitutional government devoted to the protection of individual rights rather than group claims. Liberty means free-market capitalism, which rewards individual achievement and competence, not skin color, gender, or ethnicity.

RON PAUL on LIBERTY
Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference.
Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens’ lives.
Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons.

Oh stop with the histrionics, FeebThinky.
Nobody wants to take away your freedom to attend KKK rallies to raise money for Ron Paul. Your fellow leftists over at the ACLU will back you all the way. Hell, even Al Sharpton will come out and defend your right to hide your face behind a Klansman's hood next time your klavern is roadside picking up trash or parading down Main Street.
You and your fellow cornpone barnyard buggerers can sit around all day dreaming about the day Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich will "investigate 9/11" and finally prove once and for all that the Council on Foreign Relations, Starbuck's Coffee, Hank's Auto Body, and al Qaeda are all the same entity. Hail Cthulu!
You can sit around checking your Grape Nuts for miniature radio frequency identifier tags with a magnet and blame the 9/11 attacks on American foreign policy and "forrin intangablements." God knows that damned fool Thomas Jefferson had no right to go after them Jew-hating Islamic pirates in the Mediterranean. They only killed or enslaved a few hundred American citizens, and well, that's what they get for traveling out of the country in the first place.
No, FreeThinky, you have to right to believe what you believe and say what you say and do what you do.
You don't have a right to be taken seriously. You don't have a right to not be mocked or scorned.
And you sure as fuck don't have a right to believe yourself not an imbecile.
Why would anyone watch Bridezilla when they could be watching Bridalplasty?

Hey Beamish,
I can't find anything wrong from a conservative point of view with the Ron Paul quotes FT put up and your nasty attitude is both puzzling and obnoxious.
your nasty attitude is both puzzling and obnoxious.
Really? That's all he's got. It shouldn't puzzle anyone by now.
It's puzzling because his accusations don't fit anything FT actually said.
Game, set and match to Free Thinke, methinks. Whatever one thinks of Ron Paul accusing him of not being kosher seems like as lame an argument as those who say that opposing President Obama for any reason make you a racist.
Waylon
Thank you Faith and you too, Waylon, for keeping the discussion en point.
Quoting Ron Paul, himself, directly seems to be the best possible antidote for the calumny that has been heaped on his name.
Here's the last offering from Dr. Paul I intend to make on this thread:
The original American patriots were those individuals
brave enough to resist with force the oppressive power of King George. I accept the definition of patriotism as that effort to resist oppressive state power. The true patriot is motivated by a sense of responsibility, and out of self interest -- for himself, his family, and the future of his country -- to resist government abuse of power. He rejects the notion that patriotism means obedience to the state. ... Resistance to illegal and unconstitutional usurpation of our rights is required. Each of us must choose which course of action we should take: education, conventional political action, or even peaceful civil disobedience to bring about necessary changes. But let it not be said that we did nothing.
Let not those who love the power of the welfare/warfare state label the dissenters of authoritarianism as unpatriotic or uncaring. Patriotism is more closely linked to dissent than it is to conformity and a blind desire for safety and security. Understanding the magnificent rewards of a free society makes us unbashful in its promotion, fully realizing that maximum wealth is created and the greatest chance for peace comes from a society respectful of individual liberty.
In the Name of Patriotism (Who are the Patriots?)
, May 22, 2007
He should have written "unabashed" instead of "unbashful," but aside from that I can find no fault in his argument from a Conservative-Libertarian perspective.
If there is any hope for salvation for us, either as a nation or as individuals, we must learn to tell the difference between truth and falsehood and between genuine force of character and mere bombast.

Those are some crappy sounding tv shows. Yes the producers are probably liberals, however what's really sad is that if people didn't watch such shows, they wouldn't produce them.
Society out there has major problems.
I can't find anything wrong from a conservative point of view with the Ron Paul quotes FT put up and your nasty attitude is both puzzling and obnoxious.
My computer connects to the same internet yours does, Faith. Everything I've said about Ron Paul is fully documented and easily discovered.
Ron Paul's campaigns are financed heavily by neo-Nazi and white supremacist organizations.
Ron Paul has frequently made statements that pander to the "9/11 was an inside job" troofer crowd, and makes frequent appearances in fora and radio talk shows that promote the same.
Ron Paul, in his appearances during the 2008 Republican primaries, distinguished himself from the other candidates by sounding exactly like the far-left Dennis Kucinich, blaming American foreign policy for the 9/11 attacks.
If you think the 9/11 attacks were a justifiable, invited response to American foreign policy you can sit with Ron Paul and Osama bin Laden and all the other left-wing kooks and conspiracy theory weirdoes, but you're neither libertarian nor conservative.
And I don't have to waste time explaining why you're not.
Quoting Ron Paul, himself, directly seems to be the best possible antidote for the calumny that has been heaped on his name.
"It's our policy of pre-emptive, deliberate invasions of foreign countries and occupying these countries that has jeopardized our safety. This 'blowback' principle is what caused 9/11." - Ron Paul
[On 9/11, the United States had not at that point "pre-emptively, deliberately invaded" any foreign countries, much less occupied any.]
Like all of his fellow leftists, Ron Paul is incapable of linear logic, woefully unfamiliar with history, and eager to blame America for the horrendous actions of despicable foreign entities and terrorist organizations.
His 'blowback principle' would have the United States foriegn policy under Ron Paul dictated by the desires of terrorists willing to kill Americans. Now that Osama bin Laden is an expert on global warming, one can credibly deduce and imagine that a President Ron Paul would launch airstrikes upon any carbon-emitting businesses on American soil. So al-Qaeda wouldn't have to.
Idiocy is the heart and soul of Ron Paul's crackpot philosophy.
There's nothing wrong with being a Conservative and coming up with a Conservative belief in foreign policy where we have a strong national defense and we don't go to war so carelessly.

Throughout the 20th century, the Republican Party benefited from a non-interventionist foreign policy. Think of how Eisenhower came in to stop the Korean War. Think of how Nixon was elected to stop the mess in Vietnam.

There's nothing wrong with being a Conservative and coming up with a Conservative belief in foreign policy where we have a strong national defense and we don't go to war so carelessly. ~ Ron Paul
"Have you ever read about the reasons they attacked us? They attacked us because we've been over there. We've been bombing Iraq for ten years! We've been in the Middle East... I think Reagan was right, we don't understand the irrationality of Middle Eastern politics. So, right now we're building an embassy in Iraq that's bigger than the Vatican! We're building fourteen permanent bases. What would we say if China was doing this in our country or in the Gulf of Mexico.. we would be objecting. We need to look at what we do from the perspective of what we'd do if somebody else did it to us. ... I'm suggesting that we listen to the people that attacked us and the reason they did it. And they are delighted that we're over there because Osama bin Laden has said 'I am glad you are over on our sand because we can target you so much easier.' They have already since that time killed 3,400 of our men, and I don't think it was necessary." - Ron Paul
Let's put aside for a moment what exactly our reaction would be to China building an embassy bigger than the Vatican in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, presumably on secret psychic-powered anti-gravity flotation devices Ron Paul read about on rense-dotcom.
Ron Paul believes 9/11 occured because we bombed Iraqi WMD sites under Clinton, yet going to war in Iraq because of WMD and because of Iraqi support of terrorist groups was 'unnecessary' and making it easy for al Qaeda to target American soldiers.
So, by Ron Paul's feeble attempt at reasoning, we should have a strong national defense that never deploys because they might be targeted by terrorists, who of course are totally justified in targeting them because they're deployed. We'd certainly hijack Chinese aircraft and fly them into skyscapers and kill thousands of Chinese citizens on Chinese soil if they had the audacity to build a diplomatic compound in Tennessee, and fully be justified in doing so. So obviously, we need to be sympathetic to the grievances offered by Osama bin Laden while shielding ourselves from the distinct possibility that Osama bin Laden might taunt us. Osama bin Laden's terrorists are killing us because we dared deploy to protect ourselves from Osama bin Laden's terrorists and their supporters! Great Scott! Why didn't we just listen to Osama bin Laden all along? Why, he mostly hates Jews, just like people who raise money for Ron Paul! Golly!
I've just about eviscerated the mindless idiot Ron Paul enough. Let his imbecilic groupies pass with him into irrelevance and obscurity.
I don't know a lot about Ron Paul but what I do know is that beamish has been insulting people in the most disgusting possible terms without the slightest warrant, and I find him much more offensive a presence on this thread than Craig or Ducky, and on many other threads as well. But apparently that simply means as usual that I shouldn't be here myself.
Well, Faith, all you need to know about me is that I'm rather hostile towards stupidity.
As for Ron Paul, I find him to be a stupidity magnet of epic proportions.
Let's assume FeebThinky does not fully or even at all share the anti-Semitic, neo-Nazi, white supremacist, national socialist, progressive left-wing racial eugenics philosophy of the typical financial backer of a Ron Paul political campaign "money bomb" drive.
We're still left with wondering how FeebThinky would keep his skull together when he realizes ending the Federal reserve and returning to the gold standard as Ron Paul would have it would put American monetary and fiscal policy into the hands of the eeeevil gold hoarding international bankers that allegedly already control everything.
Never mind that Ron Paul is himself a Freemason...

This is a blog comments page, beamish, nobody is required to know more about the subject under discussion than what has actually been said here, let alone do the hours of research you yourself said elsewhere would be necessary in this case.
FT did nothing but give Ron Paul quotes. You are holding people responsible for what YOU consider to be true and important, and not only holding people responsible but making slimy insinuations and calling them obnoxious names for not sharing your mere opinion.
Your tactics are beneath contempt.
---
As for your most recent post, you seem not to be aware that your assessment of stupidity may not be someone else's. All I can judge from what FT has posted here is that he admires Ron Paul for the views he has objectively demonstrated with his quotes and I find those quotes admirable as well. You are wrong to attack someone for things he hasn't said.
And once again you don't seem to know the difference between objective truth/fact and your own personal opinion.
Frankly I have no idea what you are saying, you are just trying to sound erudite it seems to me and to intimidate others of different opinions with your violent condemnations. If you want to educate us to knowledge we lack, try doing it with some of the gentility this thread was originally about.

Just saw Craig's post: "Bully," that's what I mean. You got to the point I've been ineptly meandering around.
I just wonder why he has the need to ridicule and demean everyone he disagrees with.
I only ridicule and demean stupid people. Especially stupid people who come bearing bullshit.
I can disagree civilly with a great deal many people. Naturally I'm going to be abrasive towards leftists, who are all without a solitary exception the absolute most stupid people you can possibly discuss politics with. But I save my most fiercest ire for the insidiously stupid, who tend to draw anti-Semites, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, national socialists, 9/11 conspiracy theorists and other kinds of leftists to their cause.
I probably wouldn't be so vocal about my contempt for Ron Paul if he were to begin identifying himself correctly as a progressive leftist and lay off smearing both libertarianism and conservatism proper with his mendacious stench.

Hi Z,
Speaking for myself I don't have a problem with anything factual beamish would like to post about Ron Paul. I'm sure there is much I could learn about him since I know very little -- I do like the quotes that FreeT posted.
In fact until his most recent posts beamish hasn't given much in the way of facts, he's just called people names and accused people of accepting things he imputes to Ron Paul without giving any evidence that they know those things or agree with them or even bothering to prove they are really true of Ron Paul.
Now that he has given some evidence I find myself uninclined to pay much attention anyway because my main objection to beamish is his demeaning nasty attitude toward his opponents, and that's what Craig said his problem is with him too. Beyond that I can't speak for Craig. But to me beamish's namecalling and accusatoriness has reached the lowest of the low and I'm surprised you can speak so highly of him considering that.
Now let me see if this will post as recent attempts have failed.
Since one of the first things the progressives did when they were elected in 1912 was to create a central bank. So to make this pig fly: Ron Paul is "progressive leftist", how do you explain his opposition to the Federal Reserve?
Waylon
Here are a couple of quotations one from someone most sane people would regard as a revolutionary leftist and the other from a "progressive" Fabian Socialist and both recognize the importance of destroying a currency if a nation is to be conquered and destroyed ...
"The surest way to destroy a nation is to debauch its currency." — Lenin"
“By a continuing process of inflation, government can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens.” — John Maynard Keynes
Nobody can logically argue that since the creation of a central bank in 1913 that the US$ hasn't been debauched since its current value is somewhere about four cents today versus par when the FED began.
Aside from Lenin and Keynes several intelligent men recognized the importance of a currency to a national economy:
"We should the heed the wise words of Daniel Webster:
"A disordered currency is one of the greatest political evils. It undermines the virtues necessary for the support of the social system, and encourages propensities destructive to its happiness. It wars against industry, frugality and economy, and it fosters evil spirits of extravagance and speculation. Of all the contrivances for cheating the laboring classes of mankind, none has been more effectual than that which deludes them with paper money..."
Congressional Record, March 4, 1846"
"Lewis T. McFadden, Chairman of the House Banking Commission and Member of Congress, speaking about the international financial conspirators during the very time they were taking over the monetary control of America:
"We have in this country one of the most corrupt institutions the world has ever known. I refer to the Federal Reserve Board and the Federal Reserve Banks, hereinafter called the Fed. They are not government institutions. They are private monopolies which prey upon the People of the United States for the benefit of themselves and their foreign and domestic swindlers; rich and predatory moneylenders."
- McFadden died mysteriously in 1936 after three attempts on his life."
"George W. Malone, U.S. Senator from Nevada speaking before Congress in 1957 alluded to the families that secretly own the Federal Reserve Bank and control the finances of the United States:
"I believe that if the people of this nation fully understood what Congress has done to them over the past 49 years, they would move on Washington, they would not wait for an election... It adds up to a preconceived plan to destroy the economic and social independence of the United States."

Waylon
Thank you once again, Waylon, for an excellent, fact-filled post.
I have always stood up for Richard Nixon, because I believed he was the victim of journalistic coup d'etat, but if he truly was largely responsible for taking us off the gold standard, as I believe someone asserted, then that alone is a good reason for his ill repute -- but NOT "Watergate."
One dollar today has the purchasing power one NICKEL had a hundred years ago.
How and why did that happen?
I've always blamed it on the ceaseless pressure from unions for workers to be paid more and more for producing less and less, but if the Federal Reserve has been moving us towards an ever more unstable, ultimately worthless currency plumped up to keep everyone quiet by issuing fiat money (the moral equivalent of the old shinplasters and confederate bills), then all the members of the Fed should be rounded up and carted in tumbrils to the guillotine.
In case anyone wants to learn more about Ron Paul just type his name into google. Scads of references come up, and most of them are not nearly as damaging and unflattering to the 75-year-old representative from Texas as I imagined they would be given that he is such an outspoken, anti-Establishment figure who acts as a lightning rod for often brutal controversy.

FT, no problem....It's very aggravating to me that friends' comments are disappearing...it has happened to FrogBurger, Beamish and, I believe, Pris, too.....very frustrating for them AND ME.
Sorry it's happened to you.....it's not a big deal to delete, don't worry about it..:-)
Thank you, Z. I'm glad you understand. Sorry the software is giving you problems, but glad I'm not the only one who's had these weird experiences. Hope you're feeling better and better each day -- been thinking 'bout ya. ;-)
