Boycotting Obama..........would YOU?

Have you seen this information by Billy House, from the National Journal?...
Rep. Doug Lamborn, R-Colo., said on Monday he is boycotting President Obama’s State of the Union address.
In a tersely worded statement released by his office, Lamborn said he decided instead “to pass” on attending the speech on Tuesday night, though he will watch it on television.
Congressman Lamborn does not support the policies of Barack Obama,” the statement said.
A spokeswoman said Lamborn was about to board a flight and was not immediately available to elaborate. But his office has already prepared a further explanation for constituents if they want to know more about his decision.
That explanation states that Lamborn, who was first elected to represent Colorado’s 5th Congressional District in 2006, has never skipped a State of the Union before. But it said he believes this year “the president is in full campaign mode and will use the address as an opportunity to bash his political opponents.”
It also said that, as far as Lamborn knows, he is the only House Republican deciding to do this and that  he did not make the decision in cooperation with any House GOP colleagues.
Lamborn serves as chairman of the Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources of the House Committee on Natural Resources, and is on the House Armed Services and Veterans' Affairs committees.
Here is Lamborn’s explanation to his constituents in its entirety:
“This is the first SOTU speech Lamborn has passed on
Congressman Lamborn  has attended all the past SOTU addresses. As for what makes this year’s speech different, Congressman Lamborn but believes the President is in full campaign mode and will use the address as an opportunity to bash his political opponents.
As far as he knows, he is the only Republican who will pass on attending SOTU. He is doing this on his own and is not trying to coordinate this with any other Members. Congressman Lamborn is doing this to send a clear message that he does not support the policies of Barack Obama, that they have hurt our country.
Congressman Lamborn respects the President personally, and the office of the President.
Congressman Lamborn is protesting Obama’s recent 'recess appointments' to the National Labor Relation’s Board and newly-created Consumer Protection Board. He is protesting Obama’s decision to reject the job-creating Keystone Pipeline. He is protesting the President’s draconian cuts to defense.
Lamborn wants to send a strong, clear message that President Obama’s deficit spending cannot continue.
Congressman Lamborn plans to watch the speech on television.”
If you were a Congressman or Senator, would you consider doing this?

I think the Congressman is misplaying this one. Going or not going to the SOTU is not the issue. He is probably trying to get some publicity.

In that vein boycotting the SOTU is silly, and garners more negative attention than thoughtful observation.

Now, if you really want to get attention while making a point go to the speech, and every time the Dems give O' a standing O, just jump up and yell, "Bullshit!".

That'll do it.

I am proud to say Doug Lamborn is my congressman. I have met and spoken with him at various tea party events around the county.

You see him at one of these rallies and he is a down to earth guy dressed in regular clothes mingling and talking with anyone who approaches, without the cloud of staffers and hangers on.

We are a deep, deep red district and he has no challenges, so this can't be political posturing for votes.

Perhaps is is a gentle chide to our dem senator, Mark Udall, who pushes for dems and republicans to sit with one another and hold hands instead of each party one one side or the other of the dividing line.

Having said that, I do love Bob's way of getting attention!

Sorry, but the SoTU Address was originally intended for Congress, NOT the American people. It's his j.o.b. to be there. Playing hookey is just so-many "sour grapes".

Now if they turned OFF the C-SPAN camera's (which I would suggest if the proper response to 'free' 60-minute Presidential cadena Campaign Commercials), perhaps we could get back to speeches serving their intended Constitutional audiences.

...in other words, the American PEOPLE should boycott the SOTU.... not our Congress people.

Would I?

I don't know, but whether he does, or not, do you think it will faze The Great Potentate one little bit?

If anything, it will only be used as another example of how the bad ol' Republicans just won't even try to get along.

Other than making another campaign speech, I wonder who will get dressed down, this time? Maybe he will spare the Supreme Court Justices this go'round.

You think?

I would love to see many many more congressman take the same stance as Mr. Lamborn. I am sure his supporters are cheering him on.

I'm not sure which side I come down on here...my gut feeling is he's right.

Bob, was it "B**S***" that last guy yelled during Obama's speech that got him in such hot water? Gad, I can't even remember who it was, so I guess it's not SUCH good attention, negative or not :-)

SF, glad to hear this guy's such a stand up guy.

FJ, tonight will just be yet another campaign speech like the last 3 years, so I'm with you.
To take this speech seriously, one would hope only Congress would hear it because it's meant to be a real 'State of the Union', not another "Republicans can't do anything right, and I"m perfect, and the rich have to give to the poor because they've got enough", which most pundits think this will be about tonight.
Buffett's secretary's going to be in Mrs Obama's box (...) and I don't think one can imagine it'll be anything else but what I described above in the speech because of that.
Mrs. Jobs will be there, too.

Jan, no, Obama won't probably even be told; I think he has a rough time with criticism :-)

Leticia and CS...until more start to STAND UP to this awful situation, where will we be?

Z..you hit the nail right on the head, there!

It is unbelievable how none of them, mostly, even address any of the issues that have us so concerned.

I don't know if it's because they are worried about being accused of being bigots, and racists, or they're just lacking a lot of intestinal fortitude, or what!

Maybe, they're afraid of retaliation, and just not sure how bad it might be.

But, tonight the usual campaigning for reelection, and the speech encouraging class warfare will continue, and tomorrow, he'll be praised to High Heaven by his poor, misguided, followers...which include the MSM.

I wonder if he really does have a portrait of Alinsky in the WH? Carney, in his reply to the journalist's question about it, didn't do much to dissuade, otherwise, did he?

Yeah, I know there will be some to say that it doesn't matter if he does, that it doesn't mean anything, and certainly doesn't influence any of his decisions in running the country;to them I say, "What rock have you been living under?"

Looks like I got a bit off topic..but not, really.

The sotu address has become little more than posturing.

Honestly, I'd rather watch it from home while sipping a dry gala of merot, myself.

I for one am glad I have cable. I will try to watch but it will be difficult for me. I never listen to him anymore because he says nothing about policy being they haven't' worked and he knows how unpopular his health care bill is. SO we won't expect to hear about how great that is.
I guess we won't hear how he and the senate will not be doing a budget either....again even though it's in the Constitution that is a requirement of the president and the senate. But according to this president we don't need no stinking Constitution. It's going to be buzz words and finger pointing,no policy just politics as usual.
I guess we will hear about 25 times the word "fair".
I guess when you have no successes to run on the only alternative is to blame and point. Did you hear he is having Warren Buffets' secretary sitting with his wife? Do you believe this guy?

Of course Lamborn will be demonized by the democrats but who cares that's what they do best regardless. So to his credit I give him kudos.

Liberal"mann", I'm so sorry! Had to delete. You cross the line of blogging decency and insults aren't welcome here from you (from you).
My blog and I'm not in the mood:-)

thanks!

Lisa, you're brilliant! Yes, we'll hear "FAIR" many, many times! COUNT 'em! :-)

I'm SO glad I'll be going to dinner half an hour into the speech, I just can't stomach that voice anymore...and the untruths get to me so big time.

The job projections spouted by pro pipeliners are fictitious. The numbers were created using an opaque method by The Perryman Group who were hired by Transcanada. The steel for the pipeline is all ready bought - from INDIA. The work will be done mainly by Transcanada's own workers. Same old tactics they used to push through The Patriot Act and the Bank Bailout. Needless to say Cantor, Boehner and McConnell are all for it as they've received millions from oil and gas lobbyists. A transparent methodology used by Cornell shows that the claims are all bullshit intended to ratchet up pressure for congress to push this thing through before anyone can figure out that it's another lie.

Fact Check: Keystone XL Tar Sands Pipeline Isn’t A Job Creator...
Proponents of the dangerous Keystone XL project claim that construction of the 1700-mile tar sands pipeline from Canada to Texas will create tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of much-needed jobs across the country. “Jobs for the 99%!” proclaims a website funded by the American Petroleum interests.
