I saw the space shuttle today..........

.......it flew by a restaurant I was at which has lots of windows.  Suddenly, people were whooping it up, cheering, running to the windows, so I got up to look and caught a pretty good if small glimpse.... A friend had it fly over her house and you can see it above just below the middle of the image.  Here's another, with the shuttle seemingly hovering over the buildings below it.
Not exactly clear or large, but you get the picture.............?  I was quite sad, to tell you the truth..........the eagle has landed.

We'll have something better in a couple years.

Wonder why anyone is "whooping" this up...this is the demise of NASA and our space supremacy. It's like the sinking of the Titanic. And what about all those scientists and engineers....and all the jobs...thousands of jobs at the Space Centers?

Another thing that's an insult to America from Barry Soetoro...ahh...I mean Hussein Obiessence.

What the hell is anyone cheering for?

Yea...we'll have something better....like rides from the Russians?

Go ahead...beat me up.

Imp, you're right. This is an end to a great era of looking into the future, the final frontier, and America leading the way.

This President want's us to decline and he's doing everything he can to make that happen.

The so-called progressives, are nothing but regressives, they're just too ignorant and stupid to realize it.

I'm looking at the pix tonight a few hours after posting them and realize you could see better on TV, but ...
And my friend who took them said she could have enlarged, but you get the "picture"!!

I'm totally with Imp and Pris(maybe some of you are, toO); I felt a profound sadness when I heard this program was over and figured that Barack got his way again "can't have America stay too 'high and mighty'"

I understand private American companies are doing great, but it's not the same.
WE were behind these shuttles, WE were proud of what our tax dollars did, WE loved the romance of people going up so high.

As much as I'm all for profit, now that's really all it will be ; for profit.

FB, you'd GO UP? NOT ME!!

Z - I would be excited to see the shuttle too.

But what about the trees?

I saw "Discovery" fly over when they delivered her to the Smithsonian in DC.

The end of an era, no doubt about it. But a BETTER one has started. For $200K, you can book your own personal flight into space, today!

I wish she could've come to WPAFB...

I'm sad, too, Z. The shuttle should never have been carried like an old dog to her final resting place.

And we got to see it, courtesy of Obama.

We should be grateful that Moochele didn't try to cop another "vacation" ride on either one.

I'll bet she considered it.

We saw it on the news, I was thinking, is there going to be a replacement for it? Or has obama completely bankrupted you.

Folks, I'm serious. The Shuttle, which took out two crews, was not a great transport vehicle. We can do better and we will.

The shuttle will be replaced with the Orion capsule. Capable of carrrying as many as the shuttle did in luxurious comfort. If there is a launch mishap, the Orion system will have a rescue program to deliver the humans safely back to Earth instead of igniting them.

The Orion system is similar to the Apollo vehicle. Saturn 5 + capsule, but larger. Much more reliable.

Plus, NASA doesn't build anything, private contractors do.

Love, Love, Love......

That's not entirely true. NASA assembles and tests a LOT of satellites/spacecraft. Civil servants directly badged to the government.

FJ, I'm regarding manufacturing and assembly as two different things here.

If Chevrolet gets a bunch of crates full of engines, interiors, body parts, lights etc and assembles them, who made the car?

Not Chevy as far as I'm concerned.
