Michelle Obama..."Me, I, MY, our..........."

From Michelle Obama's bid to the Olympics Committee:

"And I'm not asking just as the First Lady of the United States, who is eager to welcome the world to our shores. And not just as a Chicagoan, who is proud and excited to show the world what my city can do. Not just as a mother raising two beautiful young women to embrace athleticism and pursue their full potential.

I'm also asking as a daughter.

See, my dad would have been so proud to witness these Games in Chicago. And I know they would have meant something much more to him, too."

I don't know why, but this really bothers me. It just always seems to be about THEM, not AMERICA. And, really, I'm not just slammin' to slam........it's really just so odd, deeply different than what we've had in the past. Just wondered what you all thought.............

(and please read below...especially you MOMS!!)

The victim card is all she knows... and she plays it as if there was some "nobility" in victimhood.

"You see, in my dad's early thirties, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. And as he got sicker, it became harder for him to walk..."

That's where she got to where she's at. It's the only kinda speech she knows how to write.

Both of the Obamas speak pretty well. They have nice, well-modulated voices, good standard-American diction. No trace of the taint of "Ebonics" in them.

He dresses well, she generally does not, but neither is she a disgrace.

Jackie Kennedy was a clothes horse extraordinaire.

Eleanor Roosevelt's name should have been Jane, because she was incredibly plain.

Bess Truman was quintessentially dowdy.

Mamie Eisenhower? Well, her maiden name WAS Dowd. 'Nuff said! Pat Nixon was beautiful but almost too modest about it.

Betty Ford had some pizazz. Too bad she bobbed her nose after the mastectomy. She looked more distinguished before.

Rosalyn Carter was, is and always will be a mealy-mouthed drip.

Barbara Bush looked old enough to be her husband's grandmother, but she at least was FUN.

Hillary? Please let's not go there anymore! Haven't we all had more than enough?

Laura Bush was lovely to look at, and spoke with dignity and sincerity. Too bad about that pronounced West Texas accent!

At any rate, no one's been perfect in the role of First Lady, except maybe Abigail Adams.

But I agree there is something too contrived, too controlled, and essentially smarmy, self-indulgent and self-serving about ALL the comments that drip from the lips of both the Obamas. They lack humor, spontaneity and true warmth. What they allow themselves to say seems scripted and poll-driven. They say what they think will go over well with the majority of their listeners. They will not let us known them as they really are. I suspect they say essentially what they are TOLD to say. Maybe THAT is why it comes off as irksome and not a little bit creepy?

And worst of all they lack even the faintest semblance of humility.

I don't expect perfection from a First Lady anymore than I do from anyone else. I do expect a woman who doesn't exude anger molecules from every pore of her body. To her credit, it must be hard schlepping through life with that
ginormous chip riding on her shoulder.

She's a snooty little beehatch and abuses her position to try and wrangle in Chicago and it FAILS!

I love it.

It's always about them. They're pathetic. And then they ask us to serve the community selflessly.

They're phonies and I have the biggest despise and contempt for the people of their kind.

Their true self is revealed a little more every day. The CIO was turned off by this I'm sure as was the French government.

This ego goes in the way of doing the real work. And we're seeing the results now.

Can't wait for 2010 and 2012.

Did anyone ever think that the reason Chicago lost was that the first couple are simply not a likable couple, and add Oprah to the team it was completely pathetic.

These two narcissists made everything about "me, me, I, I" (as usual) and simply blew the sale. Had either of them ever had a real job or run anything in their entire Affirmative Action-fueled lives they'd have the basic knowledge that no matter who's doing the talking, the product is what you're selling.
Affirmative Action only works in America

It is not the job of government to take care of us. It is not their responsibility to protect us from our families, our friends, our neighbors or ourselves. It is the government’s job to protect us from gang-bangers, drug dealers, thieves, robbers, and other criminals. It is the government’s job to protect us from enemies of the American way of life. It is the government’s job to protect us from satanically insane people who are intent on destroying our Constitutionally recognized and protected rights and freedom. People like the islamo-fascist in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Syria and Libya. People like the mad-men communist dictators like Kim Jong-il (North Korea), Hugo CHAVEZ (Venezuela), Raul Castro (Cuba) and Vladimir Putin (Russia).

Maybe Michelle would have been more successful if she had thrown out some Yo Mama lines.

frogBurger said...

Plus it's a terrible pitch. They should talk about equipments, stadiums, how they're going to welcome athletes and visitor. The IOC (not CIO) couldn't care less about their dad and the bullcrap of what sport is about. Everything they said has been said over and over and is cliche.

It shows how much they thought their own little person would be enough.

That's "MEchelle" ME ME ME ME

They did not go to praise America, they went to praise themselves. The IOC didn't buy it.

Z,
what's so disturbing to me is that not only are the Obamas completely self-absorbed and obviously unaware of it, but their followers are unaware of it, too. You can have issues and at least acknowledge them or make light of them, which is a bit less frightening. Bush had a way of doing this quite well.

I feel like we're being led by a cult of ivy-league fashion models.

Law and Order Teacher said...

Z,
That is what is wrong about these two. They rose to power as rock stars and they really have no clue about how to function without their celebrity.

Americans love celebrities and these two rose to power on that and that alone. Too bad that eventually you have to govern and experience is really useful. Sorry they don't have much of that.

Z, it IS all about them. These are the most narcisstic people I've ever seen.

I'm with all of you. They're presentation was as the Obamas not as a representation of Americans.

I don't think this is missed by the rest of the world either. It's as obvious as the chips on the Obama's shouders.

FreeThinke - Laura Bush was as close to perfection as a First Lady can be. She was also very articulate. What's wrong with a West Texas accent?

Tsk tsk, spoken like a true Yankee!

Obviously, others in the room that MO addressed had lost their fathers, and have beautiful daughters, and love their home city and their country - so what in the world was this woman's message?

No matter what the Obama's think, Chicago does not have an aura about it, because they have graced it. Chicago was a beautiful city long before we heard of the O's.

The arrogance of the trio is appalling. How many in the room cared that Oprah was there?

Z, you are so right. It was all about them, and yes, it is deeply different and deeply disturbing.

I agree with FT...totally contrived. It's like going to a church where they sing worship mantras instead of singing a song to try and whip me up into some false emotional form of worship.

Really it pisses me off.

According to their liberation theology...their tribal instincts and ties...their victimhood..their success as affirmative action "equal opportunity" stars...their connection with racists like Gates, Calypso Louie, Van Jones....they're not Americans....they're hyphenated, AFRICAN AMERICANS! Totally removed from regular Americans as they can be.

And we're just supposed to...love them?

there are a lot of African Americans who don't feel at all like the Obamas show they feel.

I probably wouldn't think so much of it had it not come from someone who said her husband's nomination was the first time in her adult life that she was proud of her country. And then the President gave the PM of GB an ipod w/ his speeches on it (am I remembering that correctly?)

So what's the first Beatles song that comes to mind when you think of the Obamas? Michelle? I, Me, Mine? Probably not Happiness Is A Warm Gun.

Well, Pris,

I was trying to be "fair and balanced." I had to think of something derogatory to say about Laura Bush. Truth is I liked her a good more than I liked her husband. She was a great First Lady, but I'm just not a fan of accents, because there really is such a thing as standard English, and I believe all educated people should master it.

BTW, in case you've forgotten, I was born in Brooklyn, and I think Brooklynese is the worst accent of all -- next to Hillary's flat, harsh, unmusical Midswestern twang that is.

Maybe I have a Henry Higgins complex? ;-) You have to admit that Eliza sounded a whole lot better after her ordeal with Professor Higgins -- or don't you?

Cheerio!

Hi FT. Well I'm sure you remember I was born in Brooklyn as well, but my family came to California when I was four, so no Brooklynese for me either.

I didn't forget FT. Don't you still live in NY? If you do, you sure you don't have an accent? Frankly, I don't see why that matters seeing that you speak proper english.

However, I think Mrs. Bush's accent was rather charming and certainly proper.

Chicago definitely lost 2016 because of the ego of Obama.. both of them.

I did a piece tonight that breaks down the blame being assigned by some, and the reality as being told by the overseas media. Pundit and Pundette did a good one on the same topic.

I agree a lot with what Law and Order Teacher said.. the rock star effect, or you could see it as the superstar athlete syndrome too.

You bet Elmer. And I suppose you're not tired of illegal immigrants, terrorists and blacks continuing the demand for..."WELFARE RIGHTS"? Or in the case of terrorists...being granted..."CIVIL RIGHTS?"

Let's eliminate free speech then so as not to offend anyone...let alone tell the truth.

No, Anonymous, I DO NOT THINK only 200 Black Americans are good out of 35 million, TRUST me. Not even CLOSE...Think I'm naive?
NO PROBLEM.

I DO, however, believe the Obamas DO have the mind set of those who want to bring this country to its knees because of past 'oppression', etc....I believe WE are suffering because of the way they were taught, their mentor's opinions, their puppet masters' desires...and that's to make America 'just another country'...running to the UN, listening to dictators insult us, appeasing enemies, etc...

AND, there have been so MANY Americans taught this same thing, black and white, the Obamas have this adoring stupid bunch of 'blame America first' people supporting them. How it feels GOOD to liberals to be against the things that made this country great is WAY beyond ME.....And, how stupid to truly believe this can be a BETTER country through redistribution, through promising poor, uneducated people they can have it all, through not condemning anti-capitalists, etc .....

I actually heard Rachel Maddow this morning on MEET THE PRESS (Imagine what a clown outfit that's become when they use someone as biased and NASTY as SHE is in a supposedly reasonable panel??It makes me laugh thinking about it) and she AGAIN always goes back to it's BUSH'S FAULT and FOX IS TO BLAME for people not agreeing with Obama on everything;
she actually reminded us of Joe Scarborough's pseudo-conservatism and THAT is what makes MSNBC not biased! I mean, you simply CAN'T get over the stupidity.
CNN has only recently even included conservatives in panels! And RARELY. FOX ALWAYS has two sides, but because they have the nerve to call their editorial journalists conservative and MSNBC and CNN DON'T, that makes honest FOX biased? (convince me Shep Smith or Juan Williams are conservative, please, RACHEL)

We have so much work to do in this country to become a UNIFIED AMERICA again and I don't see it happening.....the division is SO great with left/right (and all that entails, black/white problems included, though they'd be far less if people'd wake up to the FACT that most whites are NOT RACIST)...I just don't see America pulling out of this and I never thought I'd say that.

I DO NOT think the pendulum will swing because that pendulum needs support on the conservative side and our kids are SO indoctrinated (in general) that that issue's removed from the pendulum equation.

I rambled here and I'm not even reading this over.......just making points that came to my mind. do with it what you will.

"Not just as a mother raising two beautiful young women to embrace athleticism and pursue their full potential."

Yes, but will she be proud of her country if her daughters don't make it to the top. I'm thinking she'll be proud of them if they do and she'll blame America if they don't.

And you are right Z, it is about them, that's what leftists do, they're always looking for an angle for themselves or for their fellow brethren to leech off others.
