Bill Maher's afraid of Islam taking over.....and he's SAYING he's afraid

From THIS ARTICLE: "Those who accuse the once libertarian Bill Maher of becoming too much of a liberal apologist might want to clean their ears. Maher made a Juan Williams-esque confession on his program when he apprehensively noted that Mohammed has just become the most popular baby name in Britain. "Am I a racist to feel alarmed by that?  Maher asked his panel.  "Because I am.  And it's not because of the race, it's because of the religion.  I don't have to apologize, do I, for not wanting the Western world to be taken over by Islam in 300 years?"
His normally boisterous crowd fell silent as the panel responded to Maher’s admission.
“If you’re with NPR,” the conservative Margaret Hoover chimed, “You’d be fired.”
“It’s worse,” Lawrence O’Donnell told Maher. “It’s way worse than what Juan Williams said.” Hoover seemed to agree with this sentiment.
Reihan Salam, a conservative analyst with a Muslim name, also seemed irked by Maher’s comments, noting that he “has some uncles named Mohammed” that are “pretty decent guys.”
Of course, it’s not the name that Maher fears, but the religion. (Any of them, in fact — Maher’s qualms with religion of any sort, Islam or not, are long-standing and well-documented.) Hoover further stoked Maher by claiming that the U.K is saddled with a “far bigger problem” than baby names: Sharia law, which she said is creeping into England.
“Then I’m right,” Maher said, taking her for her word. “I should be alarmed. And I don’t apologize for it.”"

Sure, he's not a Conservative, so why should HE apologize for saying what we've all been saying and getting insulted for for years?

Are we talking about the same Bill Maher who thinks conservatives are stupid, bible toting, gun carrying, fear-mongering extremists?

Wow. His ratings must have tanked.

And he SHOULD be scared. Because evil is scary. Hopefully, he doesn't change his mind or apologize and continues moving away from the false notion that Islam is "safe".

Mustang, did you see Ducky's comment before I had to delete it? Your comment sounds like you did....see, we can't even get abortion turned over and we're a BIG BUNCH of bible thumpers :-)...so how could ISLAM do anything to America? heh

Heather, let's hope.

And that's the point, Z, precisely:

Juan Williams was absolutely excoriated by speaking the obvious -- from the Left. And now Maher? Clearly, that tells me there is CLEAR RACISM on the part of the Left.

They don't mind FIRING a Left-leaning BLACK MAN, but a Left-leaning WHITE MAN somehow manages to keep his job whilst essentially expressing the same idea?

Sounds like CLEAR racism to me.

Maher also claimed in the same show that all the world's "mouth breathers" and "violent thugs" were on the right... so I wouldn't give the clueless bigot too much credit.

I love how Maher appeared so shocked by his discovery of the threat of Islam.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....

I guess some people hit the snooze button a little longer than others.

Z said...

Anon..."violent thugs" aren't those leftwingers crashing windows on buildings and destroying other property at every world meeting, or political convention, either...nor are those New Black Panthers outside the precincts 'violent thugs' because, after all, they didn't really DO anything :-)
It's always okay if the left does anything.

Jen, I should have left Ducky's comment up, maybe he'll regale us again..........snooze button? RIP VAN WINKLE time.

I might be wrong, but I think that we're seeing a sea change in how many people now view Islam.

If the sea change is really happening, why is it happening?

In part, because of Juan Williams's firing.

And also in part, because of the Times Square Bomber.

And maybe because of what happened to Molly Norris.

It's no longer merely those in the anti-jihad movement who are expressing concerns about Islam.

Liberals should be just as afraid of the death of freedom of speech as conservatives. And I think that some liberals are realizing that Islam will not give them a pass just because they cuddled up or remained silent.

What suprises me most, is that Maher seemed clueless about the introduction of Sharia courts into Britain.

Who here wasn't aware of this for a long time now? Maher always trumpeted his knowledge of topical issues. He revealed his ignorance.

I take a bit different tack on this. If there are people on the left who are recognizing the threat and willing to state it publicly, it's a start.

I know Maher hates religion, but I prefer he and others to be afraid of the one which instructs the killing of infidels.

It shows there's a small crack in that politically correct wall which the left loves to hide behind, with their reticence to speak that which to them has been the unspeakable.
Thank you Juan Williams

Meanwhile, Jon Stewart seemed to be so proud to introduce Cat Stevens at his Restore Sanity rally, accomplishing the assurance of insanity, in one fell swoop!

Amazing. Cat Stevens, the convert to Islam who embraced the fatwa against Salmon Rushdie. He had also said he would only kill Rushdie himself if he was ordered to. Gee Cat, how magnanimous of you.

He's also on the no fly terror list, so what the hell is he doing here, and why wasn't he picked up and sent back to where he came from or better yet thrown in the clink?

In this, Stewart revealed his gullibility, and outright stupidity.

Maher, while saying he wouldn't apologize, had to express his concern over the judgement of his leftist friends by asking if that made him a racist. No, he just hates religion. Any religion. A little CYA from Mr. Maher.

He also had to reassure them by trashing the American people in general. As if to say, he hopes to get invited to the next party.

Check out what Obama's envoy to the Muslim world said about the rise of anti-Islamic sentiment.

Whoop-de-doo! Are his shoes beginning to pinch a bit? Did the 'wrong' person move in next door? I love it when the chickens come home to roost.

AOW, is that "special envoy" CAIR's representative in the White House?

Just asking ...

Next question: Is he on drugs?

Maher is opposed to ANY religion taking over America, especially Christianity. What he has revealed here, though, is an awakening of the realization of just how dangerous Islam is to civilization. While there might be peaceful Muslims (maybe), Islam itself is not a religion of peace, and the naming of boys "Mohammad" is indicative of England's acceptance of this most dangerous of world views.

From that link (thanks, AOW:) MY COMMENTS ARE IN CAPS:

"Hussain said he's concerned about the increasing vitriol directed at Muslims, which he said may be due to their increasing visibility in the U.S.
It's a "reaction to a lot of progress made by Muslim communities," he said."

WAIT, WHAT 'PROGRESS'? YOU MEAN FORCING COLLEGES TO BUILD FOOT WASHING BASINS FOR MUSLIM STUDENTS WHO COULD STUDY WITHOUT IT BEFORE 9/11? JUST ASKING...WHAT 'PROGRESS'? WE'RE UPSET THAT THEY ARE DOING WELL HERE? WHO CARED BEFORE 9/11?

"Hussain said he's concerned about the increasing vitriol directed at Muslims, which he said may be due to their increasing visibility in the U.S."

ISN'T IT JUST BIZARRE? BEFORE 9/11, NOBODY CARED IF SOMEONE WAS A MUSLIM OR NOT..EVEN AFTER 9/11, WE KNEW NOT 'ALL MUSLIMS' WANTED US DEAD! bUT THEN THE DEMANDS CAME, THE LACK OF OUTRAGE FROM THOSE MANY GOOD MUSLIMS...'INCREASING VISIBILITY' IS OUR FAULT? CAIR IS OUR FAULT?

"Hussain said that the backlash against Muslim-Americans has precedent in the U.S., as African-Americans, Jewish-Americans, Irish-Americans, Japanese-Americans, and Chinese-Americans have faced similar challenges."

CAN YOU ALL PICTURE THIS GUY GOING AROUND THE WORLD TELLING THIS PATHETIC STORY OF AMERICANS FORCING OTHERS TO 'FACE SIMILAR CHALLENGES?' THIS MUST REALLY, REALLY HELP OUR STANDING WITH MUSLIMS AROUND THE WORLD, HUH?
I CAN HEAR HIM NOW "YA, WELL, YA KNOW...AMERICANS HAVE DONE THIS FOR YEARS, THEY'RE JUST THAT TYPE"
THAT HELPS, HUH?

"He urged the Muslim-American crowd at the Livonia dinner to form alliances with other groups, noting that Jewish-Americans have been active in fighting for the rights of other groups in American history."

HOW ABOUT FORMING ALLIANCES WITH ALL AMERICANS IN FIGHTING TERRORISM PERPETRATED BY THEIR OWN?

"One challenge for Muslim-Americans, said Hussain, is that "Muslims are still seen as an aggressor" because of terrorists like Osama bin Laden and the Times Square bomber."

WELL, AT LEAST HE TOLD THE TRUTH THERE.

"At one point during his talk, Hussain recited in fluent Arabic a verse from the Quran, Islam's holy book, that says killing one innocent life is like killing all of humanity. He said that there is a consensus of Islamic scholars that terrorism is against their faith, but "we continue to lose people to this ideology" of extremism."

DON'T LOOK NOW, BUT FOR AN ISLAMIC SCHOLAR, HE SURE LEFT THE PARTS ABOUT KILLING INFIDELS AND LYING OUT, HUH? WOW, WHAT A GUY. THAT'S OUR GUY SPEAKING FOR US. MY GOD.

Maher should be scared. The far leftists will be the first ones lined up in front of the firing squad. Or beheading squad. Or public hanging/stoning squad.

I am actually somewhat surprised that Maher even has to ask the question. He’s reasonably intelligent, even if it doesn’t always show. Let’s suppose that you have a statement that is both true, and according to the definition of the most racist people on earth (leftists), it is a racist statement. Now I am sure a clever man would avoid making a racist comment —meaning that he would find a way to rephrase his commentary, but even if that were not possible (I’m thinking now of the quacker who plagues this blog), should we withhold truth because we do not wish to offend? Which is the greater sin? The facts are plain enough: Creeping Shar’ia poses a clear and present danger to any free society. Now beyond this, I wasn’t aware the religion could also be a race, but then I suppose that’s just nitpicking. No, I think we should tell the truth without fear of someone labeling us racist, particularly by people who cannot define the term, and whose goal is to suppress truth and discourage honest citizens from speaking plainly. If anything, we need more (not less) plain speaking.

This is really hard to believe and if I hadn't heard it myself I would have been doubtful.

Pleasantly surprised that Maher was honest about his fear of the Muslim movement.

Maybe people are finally realizing the Islam is not a peaceful religion. It is a real threat.

Wow. I always thought Maher was complete git, but here he actually says something I agree with! :-)

Sure, he's not a Conservative, so why should HE apologize for saying what we've all been saying and getting insulted for for years?

"Why should he apologize" isn't as interesting a question as "who he should apologize to."

He had to move his show from network TV to cable when he vocally admired the "bravery" of the terrorists who killed nearly 3000 of his fellow Americans.

Mark me as asking "who gives a shit what he has to say?"

In other news, I got into a heated political discussion today at work with an "independent" who plans to vote Republican tomorrow but still wants to "blame Bush" for everything wrong with Obama's handling of the economy and the war and everything else. To him, Obama's presidency probably isn't going to start until sometime in the distant future.

I actually CAMPAIGNED for Democrats today. Told the guy "Republicans are far enough ahead in the polls that they don't need a vote from a flippin' retard like you."

He'll probably vote Republican to spite me. LOL
