Trust and Confidence

We define trust as a reliance upon, or confidence in, people and organizations to exhibit good qualities, especially involving fairness, integrity, honor, and ability. Trust implies an obligation to deal faithfully with others, and it may even denote hope for the future. Confidence is a belief or abiding faith in the abilities of oneself or others to act properly, decently, and reliably.

As in the past, people today continue to use these terms and concepts to help define a particular standard in politics: can we trust this person or organization? Do these people or organizations deserve our confidence? Can we rely upon this person or this organization to do the right thing for our country and our people? These questions are problematic because, in the modern day, they are mere rhetoric. As a practical matter, we do not hold politicians accountable for their words, or their behavior.

Politicians of both parties must earn the trust and confidence of the American people. They do this by treating us with dignity and respect, by speaking to us truthfully and without purpose of evading the truth. Have Barack Obama and his wife earned our trust and confidence?

When CNN correspondent Jessica Yellin recently interviewed Obama for a forthcoming documentary; she asked the president why he did not do more to reach out to the opposition party at the beginning of his term in office. According to Ms. Yellin, Mr. Obama said that one of the reasons he did not reach out to Republicans was because he wanted to spend more time at home with his wife and children. Is this an honest statement from the President of the United States?

President Obama ran for president on a campaign pledge to unite “red America” and “blue America.” Even though Democrats controlled both houses of Congress since 2006 and in the first two years of his administration, Obama continually complains that he is running against the “Republican Congress.” He claims Republicans are to blame for partisanship and gridlock in Washington.

To be clear, there is gridlock in Washington; it was intended by the founding fathers as a check against emotionalism and poorly considered legislation affecting millions of citizens. But is Obama’s problem the Republicans in Congress when the GOP controls only one half of the Congress? Is his complaint rational, considering both houses of Congress belonged to Democrats from 2006 to 2010? Finally, in spite of Obama’s complaints, he has not once asked House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan to visit with him at the White House. Are Barack Obama’s claims true, or false?

Michelle Obama recently delivered a stately address at the Democratic National Convention. All reports from the media suggested a stellar performance, but no one seems interested in the fact that Michelle Obama was lying to the American people about the Obama couple’s early days. In spite of Obama’s claim to be impoverished, he was able to afford Columbia University and Harvard Law School —not many of us can afford to send our children to such prestigious universities. Add to this the fact that the Obama 2008 campaign verified that Mr. Obama made two overseas trips in 1981 —the same year he transferred from Occidental College to Columbia. He visited his mother and sister Maya in Indonesia, and then he later visited Pakistan for three weeks.

Mrs. Obama’s claim that her husband drove a rusted out car, that they struggled to make ends meet, that he searched for furniture in neighborhood dumpsters rings a bit hollow considering both attained elite educations from private academies and Ivy League colleges. Both had expensive tastes, evidenced by the fact that they purchased a two-bedroom condominium in 1993 for $277,500.00, and then a few years later, they moved into a $1.65 million mansion in Hyde Park. Is this what we heard from Michelle Obama from behind the podium of the Democratic National Convention? Was the first lady being honest with the American people when she claimed these “difficulties”?

Finally, we all witnessed the brouhaha at the Democratic National Convention over their exclusion of any reference to God from the Democratic Platform, and we heard the debate about whether the Democrats should acknowledge Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel. Of course, the real issue isn’t whether Democrats recognize one city or another as Israel’s capital, it is a matter of international law —along with whoever has the most guns. But we all remember how the Convention Chairman took three votes on this issue: should the Democratic Platform remain unchanged (excluding God and any affirmation of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel) or should Democrats insert these affirmations?  After the third vote, the Convention Chair confirmed he would insert these two affirmations into the Democratic Platform. The hall erupted in loud booing. Democrats clearly denied God on three occasions, after which the cock crowed and Democrats went back to sleep. They did not want God or Jerusalem into their platform.

It gets worse.

This issue of Jerusalem actually addressed important changes in the Democratic Platform between 2008 and 2012; it is important because the platform reflects the views of its principal proponent, Barack Hussein Obama. The following language, present in the 2008 platform, remains excluded from the 2012 platform.

“The United States and its Quartet partners should continue to isolate Hamas until it renounces terrorism, recognizes Israel’s right to exit, and abides by past agreements. Sustained American leadership for peace and security will require patient efforts and the personal commitment of the President of the United States. The creation of a Palestinian state through final status negotiations, together with an international compensation mechanism, should resolve the issue of the Palestinian refugees by allowing them to settle there, rather than in Israel. All understand that it is unrealistic to expect the outcome of final status negotiations to be a full and complete return to the armistice lines of 1949."

Our question remains: are the American people justified placing their trust and confidence in the fidelity, integrity, honor, or ability of Barack Hussein Obama or the Democratic Party?

Speaking of not acting properly and decently, check out THIS PHOTO.

Oh, I know that this post is about more serious matters. But I just had to call that photo to everyone's attention.

I am a conservative, rather than a Republican...
There is not a hint of doubt in my mind that Romney is a better choice for this nation than Obama...
But....if Romney proceeds as you suggest,

I'm certain that you realize that the choices we have always come down to only two.
It's the reason that over half of the delegates to the Democratic Convention...clearly cheated in the voice vote yesterday......and clearly opposed to "God" and "Jerusalem" being re-included in the platform.....My question to you Liberals, or Democrats is Will you still vote for this parties candidate?.

Joe said...

Without the uproar created by its omission, Israel would still not be in the Democrat platform, and its presence there does not reflect the position of most liberals.

That said, if we as a nation desert Israel, we do so at our own peril.

Many will not believe that, but it matters not what you believe about it. What will happen if we desert Israel will happen, whether we believe it will happen or not.

A reminder Joe:
"It's time to admit that the idea of a chosen people is something that primitive tribes used to give themselves a leg up in the days when the snake could talk."

And it gets more twisted when we assume that America is the chosen stand in.
Clearly, if you look at the two bimbos we have to chose from this election we are a long way from chosen.

AOW, ya...Biden's cozying up like this and there was a picture of Obama letting a little pizza shop owner pick him UP in a big hug..by the way, the headline was "republican pizza owner voting for Obama"

They are REALLY pulling all the stops and I have almost no hope we can combat this purge by the Axelrod Mind. Axelrod knows exactly what appeals to Americans who aren't thinking but reacting to the 'cute' of this Dem campaign. When you can't run on accomplishment, you run on "COOL" and, as an L.A. bumper sticker I saw said the other day "Just because you think someone's cool doesn't give him what it takes to run a country"

Wait for it: We'll be getting a LOT more of this, while the headlines for Romney will be negative. Did you see the hilarious headline "NOBEL PRIZE WINNER PAUL KRUGMAN SAYS PAUL RYAN IS NOT A MAN OF SUBSTANCE" ? THat was yesterday.
I guess the left media feels the need to insert NOBEL PRIZE WINNER (as if that has any gravitas after Obama won one for beating McCain!?)...just to shore up Krugman. I really thought that was funny and a harbinger of what the media's got planned these next couple of months.

Pol Chic; you think they CARE about character? Or that their own DNC threw them under the bus with that vote? If they cared about character, who could have voted for Obama after reading his books and what he clearly told us he'd be like through them?

Joe, I totally agree with you. One must only read the O.T.

SF; The word lately is that his white grandmother paid for Harvard; better than the rumor (on video tape that oddly disappeared, by the way) of the very old and rich Arab saying he'd paid. Anybody remember that before it was pulled, with his handlers saying "he's too sick now to talk again"?
Ya, Grandma paid for Harvard? Well, if she did, he certainly didn't have a life of struggle!! Occi isn't cheap, Columbia isn't cheap...Harvard........
By the way, is the name TONY REZKO...? the guy who got them the mansion for quite a deal because of connections?

These people are sneaky, self-serving opportunists who someone up high knew would impress many Americans with their youth, their 'coolness', their articulate speeches and, heck, throw in 'black' and you've got someone most people are fearful of speaking out against.

I've always said "too bad they didn't wait five or ten more years because the good AMericans who're staunch Constitutionalists and patriotic would mostly be dead by then and the Left could have had less resistance like the Tea Party, etc"
A slight under calculation in timing?

That is funny!

I will be deleting any more insults to my readers and would have, this one of heifers, but wanted them to see and comment on your 'pearls of wisdom' which followed...just too tempting from the guru of Christian Scripture :-)
Oh, I KNOW you have said you're a believer...I just always wonder
what you believe when you don't believe the only thing that informs Christians of their faith (which, believe it or not, is not Joseph Campbell!) :-)

TO MY BLOG PARTNERS: Please delete the insults today as I'll be away most of the day and not much at my work computer, either. THanks.

These people are truthful in the same way Ducky is a conservative. Personally, I could care less about Michelle. The American people haven’t elected her to any office. If there is trust, it is trust in the belief that Michelle Obama will say anything to propel her husband to greatness; it is the only way she can ever feel good about being an American—her words, not mine.

Obama is preparing a deep landfill for the United States of America; if a host of Pizza Shop owners want to vote for Obama simply because he visited their cockroach infested establishment, then the American people deserve what they get in another 4-years of a devout Marxist.

Yeah, I heard that interbiew where he said he needed to spend time with his family and help the girls with their homework. Really??? He had plenty of time to attend hundreds of fund raisers, play hubdres of rounds of golf, and go on countless vaccations. Besides, what could he possibly do to help the girls with their homework. He is pathetic at math. His English grammer is embarrassing, he knows nothing of World or US history; so, ubless his daughters are studying Community organizing, I'm thinking they are already out of his league.

Sam, we mustn't lose sight of the fact that millions of Americans will vote for Obama partly because of Michelle. They like that "happy, touching, little family!" :-)

Yes, he will probably win and yes, those Americans will not realize what hit them after another 4 years and Holder on the SCOTUS, but we'll have to suffer for it, too!

Conson Fire...Wouldn't the follow up question from a smart, unbiased interviewer have been "but, Mr. Obama, you've played a lot of golf, you've gone to an inordinate amount of fundraisers...don't your children suffer from that, or is it only when you should be dealing with Congress as the tool it should be for you that your girls suffer from not seeing you?"

FOX is FINALLY doing a report on something WE've been discussing for months; the way the Left is demonizing Romney for having made a lot of money.

They're finally pointing out the extreme wealth of FDR, JFK, Kerry(thru marriage) etc....and how that never seemed to matter in the past.

Let's all see if CNN or MSNBC does a piece showing the left's hypocrisy! (don't hold your breath!)

OF COURSE NOT!

However, that will not stop a slim majority from supporting this charlatan. After all, he's our first black president, and we'd look like a bunch of [GASP!] racists, if we didn't give him a second term.

I don't believe the polls. If this President can pull all the deception he has up to now, why should we think he and his cronies don't have underhanded ways to affect the polls too? This is their only area of expertise! Underhandedness!

And, of course the state run media is in the tank for this corrupt administration because they're corrupt too.

In fact we can trust that they'll do whatever they think it'll take. That's where my trust ends with this thugocracy.

Reagan was said to be behind Carter
in some polls, as much as eight points, less than a month before the 1980 election, and I remember it was said the race was too close to call, a day before. Yet, Reagan won in a landslide!

So let's march on and remember, that in any competition the ones who will never give up or give in, have the fortitude to win!

I don't trust the polls, either Pris; I suspect that they are in the tank for Obama too. If the polls can convince everyone that Romney has no chance on Election Day, then why even bother to vote? What confounds me is that Romney seems willing to allow Obama to define this election as a personality contest, rather than as a national referendum on Obama policy. What in the hell is he thinking? Romney can’t win the personality contest, but he CAN win the debate on substantive issues.

I believe Barack Obama has awakened a sleeping giant in the age group of 18 to 29. Today’s counterculture is rejecting the un-American progressive policy agenda pushed by this president and his socialist sycophants. President Hopey Changey and Democrats in Congress have shown that their incomprehensible deficit spending and a national debt that is climbing minuet by minuet and is currently at the unheard of figure of 16 trillion, has made these kids rebel quickly. And that’s wht we can look fward to a President Romney in 2013.

Jon, the left want's us to be gloomy and to feel hopeless. That's part of their campaign. They want to take the steam out of our energy and willingness to fight back.

Let's not get mad, let's show 'em where it hurts, in the voting booth. Put a Romney/Ryan sticker on your cars, if others agree with it, maybe they will too!

Well my goodness, if I comport with Rush, then I'm not alone,

" are the American people justified placing their trust and confidence in the fidelity, integrity, honor, or ability of Barack Hussein Obama or the Democratic Party?"

no!

I am trying to understand Ducky's references, tonight. Let's see.

"If we desert Israel we do so at our peril?"

yep, that's true. After Obama gives Iraq to Iran, and gets nothing in return, we will have precious little room in which to maneuver to kick some Iranian ass when they start their inevitable land grab in the gulf states. Of course, if Obama was smart enough to allow oil and gas drilling, we could be energy independent in oil and not have to worry about defending our friends in the Middle East. But, that's the Obama way. It's all about him and his Marxist fellow travelers who like to smell their own effluent.

"The red heifer crowd is here in full force." Why would you reference your mother?

Isn't Joseph Campbell that guy that had a series on public TV about 25 years ago trying to convince people that God does not exist? There you go. Simple brains generate simple beliefs. I never heard him expound on his self-creation. How does that work?

Ducky. America is the biggest and best because we are. It's too bad that you don't like the way history has shown that. Maybe with Obama in office your dreams of a shattered and fallen America will come true, and your vision of social justice will have been done.

I'll be happy if obamacare gets repealed. I don't think romney is the guy that's going to 'throw it in reverse'. Reagan didn't even throw it in reverse. LBJ, Carter, Clinton damage permanent to America. None of it got turned back.

The big problem here is people waiting for government to 'solve their problem'.

We need Romney to cancel out some obama stuff just to get the head back above water, then we need probably the tea party people to throw it in reverse.

Outside of that the federal government just needs to downsize itself by about 90% and let state, local, and most importantly, Individuals work things out for themselves.

Man, we're so far from that concept, I think it's an absurd fantasy anymore.
