BREAKING NEWS is that Howard Kurtz of CNN is moving to FOX. And he's replacing my very favorite show on FOX, News Watch, where left and right journalists cover the bias in the news.
Are they KIDDING? And FOX says "he's the most accomplished media reporter in the country."
I am a better media reporter than Howard Kurtz is, right? He's been proven to be biased on occasion and I, of course, never am (Smile). But, really.......couldn't YOU do better? Any one of you could have been a fantastic guest on his CNN show RELIABLE SOURCES and a terrific guest on FOX's News Watch, too, which is apparently going off the air.
Okay...I'm through whining now. Please read Mustang's excellent piece below and join in the terrific commentary! He's just written a great piece in answer to some of your comments today, by the way...that's up for Friday.

Howie Kurtz anywhere. Guy's a complete stooge.
FOX News is kind of falling away just a tad.
I'll watch some of the stuff on there but most of the time, I just read the news on the net.
Leticia, all I really enjoyed watching was the show they're replacing with this dope! sad.
Yo are going to have to accept it, z. The more strident shows are disappearing.
They are being replaced by boring "centrist" pablum like Howie Kurtz.
Go BRUINS !!!!
What show are they replacing with Kurtz, Z? You didn't say.
Gosh, I hope it's not The Five. I get a kick out of them. I love Dana Perino and Greg Gutfeld, and get a kick out of gruff, taciturn Bob Beckel. He's been around so long he's sort of like one of the family even if he is wrong most of the time..
Howie Kurtz is a SCHLUMIEL!
Yuck Poo! Gag! Retch! HURL! §:-O
FT...it's in my post, it was called News Watch...Judith Miller, Kirsten Powers and 3 Conservatives...always very good and even handed.
Ducky, I'm not sure who likes strident programming, but no...News Watch was anything but strident.
Sadly, strident sells.
FT, The Five is apparently REALLY high in ratings...I'm not so fond of Beckel but when he said he'd really have to have reconsidered his vote for Obama if the truth about the NSA had happened before the election, I was impressed at his honesty. He does say things like that from time to time, but he still disappoints me with such leftwing dopiness. There IS something in him which at least LOVES this country..kind of like Juan Williams after he came to FOX because they Left didn't like his having nailed muslims correctly.
News Watch was literally the only panel/commentary show on Fox that I could actually watch.
Not really a fan of Kurtz...just another institution journalist.
CI, exactly! That was the only show I really really liked on FOX.
Very sad about this.
But, who knows? Maybe he'll get more even handed and even have some of the group from News Watch on? I hope so.
In earlier years, I rather liked Kurtz but he became a CNN hack like Chris Matthews changed a LOT when he joined MSNBC; he's like a stupid caricature of himself now, sadly. He used to be fairly even handed.
What bothers me is that FOX is disdained for hosts who are billed as EDITORIALS...like O'Reilly, Hannity, etc. They are NOT NEWS but the left hides behind that ridiculous misnomer and slams FOX for "biased news".
Z - The right does the same thing. When they rail against MSNBC, they don't specify the hosts of Commentary programming.
I worded the above poorly. I meant to convey that many rail against MSNBC for being biased, but only offer up the commentary hosts as evidence.
juan willams is clearly one the most respected journalists of this Century.
OH nO I can't stand him. I love FOX News Watch. Jim Pinkerton cracks me up. I'm mad now.
CI, MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnel's is an admitted socialist...I have yet to see anything like that on FOX. Perhaps you have.
Actually, I'm trying to think who does 'real news' on MSNBC.
I'm not sure if you think I'm stupid or so agenda-driven that I don't see that FOX slants to the Right. But anyone who suggests that MSNBC slants to the left only to the same degree is not paying attention.
Kid..VERY funny :-)
Lisa..I know! I really liked that show. VERY sad about that.
"I'm not sure if you think I'm stupid or so agenda-driven that I don't see that FOX slants to the Right."
I haven't stated or implied anything of the sort. But don't you think that you're own biases can come into play when assigning your assessment of what you see as an opposition outlet?
It's just the classic us v. them paradigm. If you're not us...you're them. It's a distraction.
Z - "I'm not sure if you think I'm stupid or so agenda-driven that I don't see that FOX slants to the Right."
I don't think I implied or stated anything of the sort. But don't you think that logically, you're biases color your assessment of what you see an an opposition media outlet?
Kurtz is the poster-boy for idiots annonymous. He doesn't report on events, he makes things up.

cough cough sputter sputter
Ahem. OK, Kid, if that's what you want to think.
When discussing media, I am pretty fair, CI.
As I said, the degree of slant is what I'm discussing, not whether they slant or not.
But would you not agree that biases will also inform one's assessment on the degree of slant, not merely the identification of slant?
I'll just agree that from what you usually write here, you give me no credit for obviously understanding that pretty simple concept, CI.
Which is suggesting someone's stupid, by the way.
By the way, I don't watch Hannity anymore unless he has a large group on because he becomes saner then; I have NEVER enjoyed the shows where extremism on either side is prevailing.
I watch FOX, CNN and, occasionally, MSNBC, because I feel it's important to know what's being said by everyone.
I have yet to see anyone on FOX admit to being anything close to the rightwing equivalent of a SOCIALIST like O'Donnell has.
good day to you.
"I'll just agree that from what you usually write here, you give me no credit for obviously understanding that pretty simple concept, CI."
That's an odd rebuttal, considering that you accused anyone who doesn't share your biases, to be "not paying attention".
I should have added that you're using a commentator to imply the journalistic bias of MSNBC...which is somehting you decried previously when used by the left against Fox.
Well, CI..there ya go.
Let me just admit I'm a terribly biased, unthinking, slanted and stupid blogger.
NOW can we agree on something?
Thanks.
No, I need to write more: I very clearly suggested that FOX has no equivalent to O'Donnell and that's a fair observation in comparing the two stations.
And, no, one doesn't have to share my opinions or biases in order to be paying attention. But, to not notice certain obvious truisms does imply a lack of attention paid to the subject.
I'm done.
I do "smug" pretty badly and laughing to myself because i hate it; congratulations on your excellence.
FWIW, you missed the point. I don't think you're stupid. I do however think that you employ the same rhetorical devices regarding perceived media bias, that you accuse your political opposition of.
It's not being smug on my part...it's my inability to apply logic as to why this sort of distraction has so much currency on the internet.
trust me, I missed no point. How you can read my comments and think I'm not understanding you is almost unbelievable to me.
"How you can read my comments and think I'm not understanding you is almost unbelievable to me."
I certainly apologize if I'm wrong on this point, but when you preface with this:
"What bothers me is that FOX is disdained for hosts who are billed as EDITORIALS...like O'Reilly, Hannity, etc. They are NOT NEWS but the left hides behind that ridiculous misnomer and slams FOX for "biased news"."
And follow with this:
"MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnel's is an admitted socialist...I have yet to see anything like that on FOX. "
And accuse others of this:
"But anyone who suggests that MSNBC slants to the left only to the same degree is not paying attention."
I'm left thinking that someone is attempting to hold a personal bias about commentary programming to be a universal truth about news reporting.....and engaging in one statement the very action that they decry in a previous statement.
But like I said, I really don't see the allure of using this type of partisan device in any adult conversation; fellow travelers are going to wildly agree, the opposition is going to vehemently disagree....and it's not even in pursuit of a rational discussion of actual reporting bias.
It's merely playing the game that the parties and the media want you to play.
Bob - Kid said..." juan willams is clearly one the most respected journalists of this Century."

Ahem. OK, Kid, if that's what you want to think.:
Bob, This was a comment on the state of our population's assessment. ;-)
And it's only been 12.5 years far, maybe things will get better.
