Beethoven and Pumpkins...as "Halloween" as I want to get....

A daring vacationer in Vienna is walking through a graveyard on Halloween when all of a sudden she hears music. No one is around, so she starts looking to see where it's coming from.
She finally locates the source and finds it is coming from a grave with a headstone that reads, "Ludwig van Beethoven."
Then she realizes that the music is the Ninth Symphony and it is being played backward. Puzzled, she leaves the graveyard and persuades a friend to return with her.
By the time they arrive back at the grave, the music has changed. This time it is the Seventh Symphony, but it is also being played backward.
Curious, the ladies agree to consult a music scholar. When they return with the expert, the Fifth Symphony is playing and the expert concludes that the symphonies are in fact being played in reverse order.
By the next day the word spread and a huge group gathered around the grave to hear the Second Symphony being played backward. Just then the graveyard's caretaker approaches the group. Someone in the crowd asks him if he has an explanation for the music.
"Oh, it's nothing to worry about," says the caretaker. "He's just decomposing!!"
 Have a fun day!

Howard Zinn for Middle School Students...why NOT?

If you read nothing else, please read the words I reddened down below.   It's so typical of the leftwing mind:

Philadelphia city council members have approved a resolution that calls for socialist historian Howard Zinn’s book “A People’s History of the United States” to be taught in public high schools.
The resolution was backed by council members Jim Kenny and Jannie Blackwell, who believe that Zinn’s far-left socialist vision of American history is currently missing from high school textbooks.
“Howard Zinn’s ‘A People’s History of the United States’ emphasizes the role of working people, women, people of color, and organized social movements in shaping history; not simply the version retold by those powerful enough to ensure history remembers their actions in a positive light, regardless of the truth,” the resolution states.
The power to set curriculum is in the hands of the school district superintendent and board, meaning that the resolution is little more than a strong recommendation. Still, Kenny and Blackwell believe a message must be sent that Philadelphia students need formal instruction in recognizing privilege and inequality.
“Council does hereby recognize the need for students to be taught an unvarnished, honest version of U.S. history that empowers students to differentiate between moments that have truly made our country great versus those that established systemic inequality, privilege, and  prejudice which continue to reinforce modern society’s most difficult issues,” the resolution states.
Zinn’s book is lauded in far-left circles, but many conservative thinkers believe his self-described “history” is really social activism masquerading as fact. Former Indiana Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels believed strongly that the book had no place in K-12 classrooms–an opinion that landed him in trouble with liberal academics when he started his new job as president of Purdue University.
“We must not falsely teach American history in our schools,” said Daniels in a statement defending his opposition to Zinn’s work. “Howard Zinn, by his own admission a biased writer, purposely falsified American history. His books have no more place in Indiana history classrooms than phrenology or Lysenkoism would in our biology classes or the `Protocols of the Elders of Zion’ in world history courses.”
Daniels made clear that college professors had the right to use the book if they so choose, but K-12 teachers have no business treating Zinn’s work as fact.

Zinn was an apologist for communist dictators like Fidel Castro, who has brutalized and oppressed the people of Cuba for decades.
Like Zinn, Councilwoman Blackwell defended the Castro regime.  “Castro did not do everything wrong, or he would not have lasted so long,” she said in a statement to CBS.
Philadelphia Daily News columnist Will Bunch praised the decision to demand that Zinn be taught in class, happily explaining that his own radicalism was fostered by “A People’s History of the United States.”
“Although readers here assume because of my fondness for the radical ’60s that I emerged from the womb carrying a picture of Chairman Mao, the truth is that I was a bland center-left voters and a pretty “balanced” journalist in the ’90s,” he wrote. “Reading Zinn helped me understand what went wrong, and how everyday people could fight to get things right.”
Mao, the Chinese dictator whom Bunch recalled fondly, ruled communist China from 1949 to 1976. His policies of mass starvation and execution are responsible for an estimated 50 million deaths.
Neither Bunch, Kenny or Blackwell responded to requests for comment.
There has been no word yet on whether district officials plan to turn Philadelphia students into apologists for mass-murdering dictators.

So...what do you think?   Zinn before college?  Might as well, I suppose.   Our kids are pretty much lost, anyway;  they're entitlement seekers, they don't understand the millions who've died under leftwing dictatorships, they don't even know the America worth fighting for..........why NOT Zinn?
Tell me.

Clinton...absolutely unreal

DALE CITY, Va. (AP) — Conservative ideologues are reliable voters who could threaten Democrat Terry McAuliffe's political chances, former President Bill Clinton warned Sunday as he joined his longtime buddy's campaign for Virginia governor.
With little more than a week before Nov. 5's Election Day, McAuliffe and Republican Ken Cuccinelli each have sought to energize their strongest supporters. McAuliffe has opened a lead in polling and is heavily outspending Cuccinelli on television ads, but turnout is expected to be low and the result could be decided by a few thousand votes. es
Former President Bill Clinton campaigns for Democratic …"Political extremism does have one political virtue," Clinton said. "Once you get people all torn up and upset, steam coming out of their ears, people will show up and vote."
It was a shift in roles. For decades, it has been McAuliffe championing the personal and political futures of Bill Clinton and, later, his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton. Now, he's here to pitch in during the campaign against Republican Ken Cuccinelli during its final week even though Clinton joked he is "in my dotage."
"Terry's gotten so good on the stump, I don't think he needs me anymore," Clinton said to laughter at the pair's first stop.
Clinton planned other stops throughout the state with his longtime pal and fundraiser during the coming day. Former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, who is considered a strong contender for 2016's presidential nomination, used her first political event after stepping down as secretary of state to endorse McAuliffe earlier this month.
Bill Clinton predicted that Cuccinelli's supporters, who are deeply conservative and align to the tea party, would be reliable, and he urged Democrats to be just as motivated.  (Z:  I giggle every time I hear 'tea party' again lately;  you all know very well that the tea parties were totally out of the news until this healthcare problem was coming to light and, suddenly, everybody was an extremist TEA PARTY MEMBER, remember?  Another White House 'memo' all the lefties began using...)
"Just remember, the people who aren't here today, who go to the other fella's rally, they will be there on Election Day," he said. "I've dealt with it all my life."
Cuccinelli's campaign sought to turn Clinton's star power among Democrats into another way to build enthusiasm among his conservative supporters. Even before the pair arrived at the veterans' hall here in northern Virginia, Cuccinelli's campaign had already sent reporters a memo recounting the years of Clinton-McAuliffe collaboration for Democrats......
You can read the rest HERE if you've got the stomach to.....and here we keep getting told it's the Left that's so open minded.................my GOSH.

Are YOU an extremist or do you just disagree with the Democrats?  Why is that not okay?

Benghazi; the truth

Here are the security officers and others who warned the Department of Defense about the lax state of protection at the Benghazi offices of Ambassador Stevens.   They warned and warned.  They're grieving because America did not have their backs as it always does.   They still look gutted and devastated by our lack of DOING SOMETHING.  "Shocking"......"angry"..........

If this doesn't make you angry, I don't know what to say.  I feel gutted, too.

Will anything come of this video having been shown on Sixty Minutes last night?  Or will it go away again.

We let them down.  We let down our brave people who do diplomacy and fight for us overseas in dangerous places.

"Keep fighting.  I'm on my way."  After being told the place is swarming with rebels...... "I'm on my way."   These are men fighting for us.  The best of the best.  And gutted for the lack of support from our government.

I think this video proves that help COULD have come; the experts THERE know it could have.   Also, the security planning they wanted to do would have prevented these deaths and they warned twice of how vulnerable those people were and then they were in the throes of putting together the third official warning but were kept from completion. Why?

Lou Reed, RIP

You did a LOT for music in the last fifty years.

Thanks.

Sunday Faith Post

HERE is a book I've had highly recommended to me.  The name is DAVID AND GOLIATH and it's by Malcolm Gladwell, a man raised in a Canadian Mennonite family but who drifted until writing this book about underdogs and how faith has helped them forgive, conquer, succeed.   HERE is a very interesting and inspiring interview with him.

Do you know people who came back to their Christian faith?  Can you share?

"Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong."  1 Corinthians 13

Have a courageous Sunday!

"What was the Holocaust?"

A Pennsylvania woman was curious as to what college students in her state know about the Holocaust. Her filmed interviews exposed the despicable lack of knowledge regarding not only the Holocaust, but also basic facts about World War II.
According to the Blaze, Rhonda Fink-Whitman visited several college campuses to conduct her interviews and found that even some students at the Ivy League University of Pennsylvania were completely clueless as to the world-changing events that took place just over sixty years ago.
Some students didn’t know where Normandy was, why the U.S. entered the war and who the president was at the time (Wilson, Eisenhower and even JFK were among the guesses).
One student reportedly thought that African Americans were the primary target in the Holocaust.
Fink-Whitman started her interviews with “What was the Holocaust?”
Here are some of the answers she received:
“Uh, I’m on the spot now.”
“It was a, uh, I don’t know how to say it like. It was something that happened in. Oh my God, I know the answer but I don’t know how to explain it.”
“I have no idea.”
“I have no idea … is it Europe? I don’t think so.”
She also asked which country Adolf Hitler had been the leader of:
“Amsterdam?”
“I forget.”
When she got to the University of Pennsylvania, Fink-Whitman asked students how many years ago the Holocaust occurred. One female student guessed around 1800 and then 300 years ago.
Another UPenn student even thought that Winston Churchill was an American leader.
Fink-Whitman is the author of “94 Maidens,” which chronicles her mother’s experience in the Holocaust. She believes Holocaust education should be mandatory in Pennsylvania public schools as it is California, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey and New York.
“You can’t blame the kids,” she told the Blaze. “Nobody’s teaching it to them. By the time they get to college, they should know a thing or two about the Holocaust and other genocides so when the plague of denial creeps onto their campus they’re armed and ready with the truth.”
She does note that her video is not meant to “embarrass, humiliate or shame” anyone. (end of article)

Z: Wait.  University kids don't know the Holocaust and think Winston Churchill was an American leader and don't know where Hitler led, and they shouldn't be "embarrassed, humiliated or ashamed?"   REALLY?   Didn't YOU learn that stuff in school?  Are they too busy learning about Howard Zinn?   Women's studies?  Climate Change?

And, they say those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it.  Oh, great...just GREAT.

Who's to blame?   Them?  Their teachers?

Unbelievable.

Earned Tax Credits.............WHAT?

WHAT IN THE WORLD?

The IRS is losing billions each year on Earned Income Tax Credits and they know it, and they have ways to prevent it, but they aren't?   Check this out:

"The EITC is a refundable tax credit designed to transfer money to the working poor through the tax system. It allows the working poor to pay less in taxes or, if they have no tax liability, to get money.
Both the IRS and the auditors agreed it is a complex program and checking eligibility is difficult.
The program is popular with many lawmakers on both sides of the aisle who say it’s an effective anti-poverty tool, rewarding those who work."

"effective anti-poverty tool?"    "to get money"?

And, as the article clearly states.........many are worried about how the IRS can manage the running of Obama Care when they can't even get their act straight on this.

Also, what do you think of the Earned Income Tax Credit?

Help me out here.

These were taken the other day in Olympia, Washington.  I'm sorry the middle shot looks muddled;  the way I got it the leaves were as clear as in the other shots.  Are these not gorgeous?  I had to share them.

The Fiscal Cliff:

So.............What can we do about the situation?  I've always likened this to a family budget myself......."So, hey...we're in debt $20,000...what do we do now?  Stop spending as best as we can and start paying the debt down or just keep spending and let's see what happens?   I don't know about you, but at my house, we'd stop spending as best as we can.

So, what 'shit' (pardon the expression, but coming off the above 'notice') can we start removing in your opinion?
I was thinking how my husband died before he'd made the full Social Security requirement, so he didn't get any when we looked into it.  Four points short, I believe it was.   Meanwhile, he came legally from Germany, worked hard, employed about 50 people and got nothing; illegals get paid FOR nothing.  Hmmm....maybe we can start there?

Sunday Faith Blog

This is an awkward subject for my Sunday Faith Post....  I discuss this subject with various people from time to time and most agree with me, some vehemently do not.   The subject is Christian TV and some of the goings-on there.  Big gold throne-chairs, billowing pink hair, raising money. etc.

Is that Jesus' message?

Or pastors yelling from the pulpit and taking big, gulping gasps of air between phrases as if they're on life support sucking in the oxygen, then spewing out more...  the messages aren't too bad, but the delivery's difficult to take.

Is that Jesus' message?

Or men (pastors?) spitting into the microphone and saying "someone has cancer...you know who you are.." and suddenly that person is brought up to some stage, among hundreds in the audience crying and gyrating, and he spits and prays and a big bouncer stands behind the sick person, and this man puts his hand on their sweaty foreheads and proclaims YOU ARE HEALED..!  That person drops back into the bouncer's arms and runs back to his seat clicking his heels to the left and to the right. (okay, maybe not that dramatic, but you know what I mean).  And do NOT forget the money aspect of some of these shows, please.  I know a lot of money DOES reach its helpful mark but all?    (I don't THINK so!)

Is that Jesus' message?

Don't get me wrong; There are really educational, inspirational shows on Christian television.  Joyce Meyers always has a message worthwhile listening to, Beth Moore is marvelous, Life Today with James and Betty Robson is nice, Table Talk with Joni captures my attention........adult men sitting around a table discussing Scripture can be very informative and interesting...we need another Billy Graham, but.............
HERE IS MY POINT:  If you were up late some night channel surfing and you landed on one of these shows I described above (other than the ones I personally admire), and you were on the line about faith..........which way would YOU go?   I say "I'll go back to the Frasier reruns I love so much as fast as I can...what is WITH those nuts!?  If I do become a believer, will I BE LIKE THAAAAAT?.....etc etc......"

And, I have dear believing friends who tell me about friends of theirs who did NOT believe but happened to do the "Christian TV Channel Surfing Experience" and something some (what I call) "nut" said on the air exactly reached them and they were transformed.   GO FIGURE!

How about you?  Do you worry that friends could be turned away because of the craziness (and I admit that's MY take on those shows, I don't blame you if you like them, trust me).....?   I do.

Is ALL of it Jesus' Message, whether I "approve" or feel it's inspirational or not, and I'm being mean spirited?

Tell us!

"He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way."  Psalms 25:9

have a wonderful Sunday!

"Vote the bastards out...!" McAfee

Pardon the expression, but John McAfee says Obama Care's website situation is a "hacker's wet dream"...(Neil Cavuto, the interviewer, wasn't thrilled about that expression, either, I'm sorry if it offends you....I only use it for the shock value ... because we NEED to get peoples' ATTENTION.  I adore Cavuto...see his interview with an expert:

SO...how's THAT feel to you?   Every bit of any medical information or social security number, or ANYTHING, could be in a hacker's hands.........easily.

According to the expert (who my lefties will now decry, calling McAfee names and saying he's really not smart, with a link from The Nation:-)), we are in BIG TROUBLE with this situation.

How do we escape this hacking probability and why don't men like McAfee speak out more often?

Come live with me...............

Please pray for THIS KID.............every kid deserves to have people take care of him, to not have to live off the state.  To feel self worth. Affection.

Would you take him in?

By the way, friends of mine have 3 great kids and want to take another child into their home;  they have to go through many day-long training classes put on by the State as if they don't know about parenting.  AND, they're told the State turns away 70 children a day from the foster care program because there aren't enough homes for them.   The plan is to start orphanages again.  Does your State have orphanages and do you think they could work like they did in the past and better their past reputations?  Is it better than the bad foster care homes we hear about?

I'm interested because the boy in the post represents so many American children in such pain...........how do we resolve this problem, yet another concern for America's future?

On or off?

Politicos from the Right are sometimes invited to CNN or MSNBC, or even Network News.
I heard Hugh Hewitt last night say that it's silly to accept their invitations, or even to give interviews to the obviously left-leaning papers........I wonder if that's true.

Should rightwingers even do interviews on leftwing venues anymore (that'd be any station but FOX)?  Hugh Hewitt says 'no', and he's a true Conservative, and very, very smart and quite reasoned in his approaches.  He says they should not because it makes no sense..."why bother?"    He interviewed Congressman John Campbell who agrees with him.  They both said that, if conservatives stop,  it'll become obvious to thinking Americans that they're TRULY only getting one side and they might even (dare we hope?) hunger for some opposing ideas to what they're constantly hearing; something to remind themselves of fairness and weighing things; not just swallowing everything they hear.

What do you think?  Have we come to that?

How about you?

The media's winning, folks.  It's the leftwing instrument, the leftwing tool, and it's working very well.   And look how badly our country's doing because of it.  I guess I could take the political stuff if I felt both sides were respected and Americans were actually open minded enough to see the through the media's bias and weigh the facts for themselves....but....that isn't happening. Have you heard the snide remarks of Reid and Pelosi?  The undignified lies and horrible labels they're putting on Republicans simply because they don't like what's going on with our too-big government?

CHEER ME UP with something..........OKAY!? :-)

Prickly City........

THIS is how far Google will go to sell an ebook:   "As the American mainstream tilts gradually right, Prickly City takes its place as a humorous voice for the masses. Creator Scott Stantis' first collection captures the issues and arguments of the George W. Bush political era era from the viewpoint of a little girl and a cute coyote."

"The American mainstream tilts gradually RIGHT?"  :-)

I'm blogging this because I was stunned to see that the L.A. Times carries this cartoon strip, PRICKLY CITY, by Scott Stantis, and IT does tilt right.  Who knew?  Considering how left-leaning most of the cartoons which hit on politics or culture are, this was pretty surprising.

Do you have any conservative-leaning cartoons in your paper?

Typical of Hollywood?

Patricia Heaton:  The actress was well-liked for playing a TV mom on "Everybody Loves Raymond," so liberal Hollywood wasn't exactly receptive to her conservative political views when she decided to share them in 2012. After Rush Limbaugh branded law student Sandra Fluke a "slut" for testifying in favor of birth control, Heaton — who opposes abortion, euthanasia, stem cell research*, and the death penalty — criticized the college student in a series of sarcastic tweets, some of which Heaton ended up deleting. In a subsequent interview with Popeater, she said, "We know for a fact there are some people who have said they wouldn't want to work with us because of our politics. We get lumped in with lunatics."

(Z:*  I'd like to see where anybody's opposed to all stem cell research :)  But it sure makes her sound bad, huh?  And, of course, I'm sure she's not against living stem cell research, which has a higher success rate than embryo stem cells.)

James Woods is the latest celeb to find himself in the middle of a media firestorm following a slew of among other things), Woods tweeted that he expects there will be consequences for his opinions."I don't expect to work again. I think Barack Obama is a threat to the integrity and future of the Republic. My country first," Woods replied to one of his followers
anti-Obama tweets earlier this week.  After the 66-year-old actor and vocal conservative called the president a "true abomination."

(Z: by all means...don't hire the guy again.  He thinks differently than liberal Hollywood.   You know, the open minded bunch who deride conservatives for being close minded?)

So IS Hollywood as open minded as we're to believe?   Isn't it dangerous that we have Americans who love this country and should be entitled to their opinions as much as any other star does but they're insulted and possibly even shut out of working?

What do you think?

I agree with Gloria Steinem?

Unbelievable, but true.....I AGREE with GLORIA...  Alert the media! :-)

Here's a bit from the linked article where Steinem addresses the behavior of Miley Cyrus and others like her:

"...... I wish we didn't have to be nude to be noticed," Steinem said. "But given the game as it exists, women make decisions. For instance, the Miss America contest is in all of its states, forms … the single greatest source of scholarship money for women in the United States. If a contest based only on appearance was the single greatest source of scholarship money for men, we would be saying, 'This is why China wins.' You know? It's ridiculous. But that's the way the culture is. I think that we need to change the culture, not blame the people that are playing the only game that exists."

At the of the article comes this:

"Now that Steinem has spoken, however, perhaps we can all officially move on?"

"Officially move on?"  So that's it?   We don't THINK about what Steinem said?  We don't address the problem, just "move on?"

WOW.

Think we should just "move on?"   Think our culture CAN be changed for the better?

Pink skies, pigs and whales..........

These are pictures taken a few days ago in Niuatoputapu....ever heard of that island?  I hadn't, either.  It's somewhere between Tonga and New Zealand.  Ms. Z is there in the 16th month of her sailing trip.   SO many fantastic pictures but I thought these were neat..........she said the island has pigs everywhere...........and that pink sky is so gorgeous!
Here are a few of the children playing...........wonderful...
I don't know anything about them, but I couldn't help thinking how amazing it is that they have no idea their pictures are being seen by Americans across this country on GeeeeZ.   I love that.
I'll leave you with this:
I'm not too much of a 'pretty picture' admirer of photography;  I like gritty pictures of people/buildings, and mostly black/white, but these are so nice I had to share them, compliments of Ms. Z, whose dad died four years ago today.  He'd be so excited about her sailing adventure.

$15 for a McDonald's hamburger?

OK.  So minimum wage goes up to $10 or $12 an hour.   Hamburgers have to go up to $15.  For the average family of parents and two children, with a few fries and Cokes, lunch could cost $75.

How's that work for that family?

What can we do about this?  People need a good wage for their work.  People need to be able to afford fast food when they feel like it.

HOW?

I heard this while Googling some other music and thought about how many years we in America have been singing "HIS truth is marching on.....Glory, glory, hallelujah!"  and how we all know it's GOD's TRUTH that we have sung about for the last 152 years, during our success as a great country.   Odd that some are so eager to separate God from country only in the last 20 years ago......why NOW?....and how badly things seem to be going, isn't it?

Is this actor a RACIST?

This is hilarious and isn't the 'cleanest' video I've seen (the website where Kid found it warns the viewer) but it's worth watching.
