Global Warming Baloney

When science and politics mix, science inevitably loses, and sadly morphs into pseudoscience. The man-made global warming scare is a perfect example of politics "polluting" science and causing us to do things that are counter-productive, and think things which are ridiculous and counter-intuitive.
Here's one of the ridiculous assumptions that has become accepted as scientific fact: The idea that the CO2 created by burning fossil fuels is causing global warming. Here are some facts backed up by real science. First, CO2 is a terribly inefficient greenhouse gas due to it's molecular structure. Levels of CO2 would need to be many times higher than they are today to have any noticeable effect on global temperatures. Second, methane and water vapor are very efficient greenhouse gases and trap heat far better than CO2. We have nearly no effect on the levels of methane or water vapor because the oceans generate over 90% of these two gases. Third, based on mud core samples from fjords in Canada, Norway, and Alaska it appears that CO2 is a lagging factor in the global warming cycle. In other words, the Earth warms by a few degrees for a number of possible reasons, the "green belt" moves farther north and so uth, and more gases of all kinds are created, including CO2. Based on some of the best available evidence, increased CO2 levels come after the Earth warms.
When the American Physical Society called for the U.S. to "reduce it's dependence on foreign oil", they really want us to reduce our oil consumption, period! Notice that they didn't call for increased drilling in the continental U.S. or our coastal waters? Increased drilling and exploration for oil and natural gas is the only way we can realistically "reduce our dependence on foreign oil." All other solutions are nothing more than platitudes, half truths, and empty promises at this point. Americans deserve better than the hyperbolic rhetoric handed out by politicians on the left and wind farmers in search of tax handouts. A look at the American Physical Society's website gives you a good indication of the level of the debate where man-made global warming is concerned. Here are a few of the articles they've included on their site; "White Roofs Could Offset Global Warming", and my personal favorite, "Stemming Global Warming With An Artific ial Volcano." You need not be a rocket scientist to understand how intellectually depraved this topic can be.
Those of you over age fifty may remember the April 28, 1975 edition of Newsweek Magazine. It was entitled “The Cooling World.” Global cooling was the big climate scare back then and they claimed it was being caused by our use of fossil fuels. Imagine my surprise! Ironically, significant global cooling truly would be a disaster as it has been in the past. You’d think that anyone with even a modicum of intellectual skepticism (and access to Google) would think really hard before buying into the opposite story in the same lifetime! P.T. Barnum famously said, "A sucker is born every minute." At least when Al Gore's movie is playing we'll know where to find them!

If we assume that CO2 is the cause of global warming, the easiest way of cutting those emissions without shooting ourselves in the economic foot is to go nuclear. But try that argument with the alarmists insisting we're all going to burn.
The reality is that today's green movement was taken over by communists and socialists a decade or two ago. Their ultimate goal is equality by the easiest means, make everyone poorer. And this global warming nonsense is the easiest way to make that happen, note how every scheme they put forward penalizes us in some way or other.
Also note how they never stop harping on America, even though China is the biggest emitter of CO2 now.
We in Australia have recently embraced this nonsense, even though we know that whatever we do to cut emissions won't make any difference, such is the madness of the new green religion.

That assumtion is absurd too. CO2 is a pathetic global warming gas. It just doesn't trap heat well. Here's an irony for you. Other than spent nuke fuel and power, what does nuke power create? WATER VAPOR from the cooling towers! That truly is a greenhouse gas.
I don't think we could create enough of that to make a difference either.
We need for clean coal and nuke power to totally take the place of oil where energy production is concerned. The simple reason is that we require the oil reserves for our transportation needs. Oil, natural gas, and possibly hydrogen produce incredible bang for the buck where fuel is concerned.
Your take on today's green movement is dead on too mk! They are striving like crazy to knock America down a few notches, and they're perfectly willing to use fairy tales to make it happen.

I'm convinced the liberals are actually trying to ruin this country, Z. There's no other explanation that makes any sense. We are hurting for oil but they don't want us to drill. California refused to let a natural gas plant be build in California so they outsourced it to Mexico, creating thousands of jobs that could have gone to Americans, and now the gas produced their has to be piped in and paid for by Americans. It's all too stupid!

Gayle, I couldn't agree with you more on who's ruining this country, or TRYING to.
The hypocrisy, the mischaracterizations! And to see people like Colmes in OVERDRIVe trying to dissuade, lie, run defense for his team is literally sickening. Did you see him try to fight Rove last night? I have my misgivings about some of what Rove does, but he ROCKED last night.
FINALLY, I can sense something's turning; Conservatives are finding their voice and not taking the lies anymore. I think it's because McCain and Palin aren't.
Some of the articles I see, for instance, slamming McCain, have headlines like "Experts say McCain isn't right for job" etc etc.....FINALLY, "updates" (even on Yahoo!) are getting added at the bottom and they're saying things like "The McCain campaign would like noted that all those experts quoted are Democrat donors to the Obama campaign"....I saw a few other 'clarifications', too. I never saw that before.
Leftist talk shows and news venues still aren't presenting fair panels (other than FOX, which 99% of the time has Juan Williams or Bob Beckel, etc.) in any discussion, though. YOu would THINK that journalistic integrity would force them to present a fair view, but......not yet. At least almost never. CNN has a conservative 3 times a week, MAYBE, MSNBC's panels almost never. OR they'll cover the war and have Pat Buchanan on who's AGAINST the war! Nothing even handed. (Larry King's getting to be a parody of himself "and I"m INDEPENDENT" WHAT???) YOu have to kind of laugh, I guess. But, people are finally waking up. I really think the Palin coverage has shown them what we've all been saying for years.

WHAT TIRES ME is how the Left misinterprets the Right's concerns: It's MAN MADE warming the Right understands (and most scientists)isn't real; nobody disagrees that there's been some warming.
I've noticed that too, Z, conservatives finding their voice as you say. My local news program is running a segment carefully and accurately correcting all the mistatements in the political ads -they get the McCain ads too but the leftist ads are worse. They've never done that before. Truth! What a concept!

Very true Z. And that approximately 1.3 degrees F. of warming took place in the last century from 1900-2000. From 2001-2008 there's actually been a cooling trend.
WHAT a stunning coincidence that the minor swings in temperature follow sunspot and solar flare activity to a tee! As we write the Sun is in the least active phase that we've ever observed. No sunspots. No magnetic storms of any great size. This enables more Cosmic rays to enter and interact with the atmosphere and particulate matter, forming clouds and RAIN! Also reflecting more sunlight back into space, cooling us off a bit. Here in NE FL we've had the cloudiest, rainiest summer in a LONG time. Coincidence? I doubt it, but I can't say for sure.
One thing I can say for sure is that this man-made global warming hoax is a Trojan Horse for government programs which are intended to kill our freedom and tax and regulate us into a state of socialism. We had better wake the hell up as a nation or we'll be in BIG trouble!

We knew very quickly that Global Warming was not a concern and that CO2 was not the culprit the moment the people saying it was started giving suggestions for future alternative fuels. They first one on their list was Hydrogen!! it's clean running, the only byproduct that is emitted is water vapor!!!
Well let's take a look, CO2 makes up about 4% of the total supposed greenhouse effect, Water Vapor makes up 40-80%, glad to see they have good judgement!!!
Good point misfit. After the fall of the Soviet Union many of the muisplaced commies found an anti-capitalist home in the enviro movement. That doesn't tell the entire story, but it IS a vital component of enviro-madness these days.

Morgan: Thanks for writing this excellent piece and to remind everybody again what utter nonsense this global-warming-made-by-humans is. We are shooting ourselves constantly in the foot by over-reacting. Gore and his ilks have created a religion, deviating from which is increasingly difficult given the facts such as currently falling temperatures or less hurricanes last year.
Over-reaction is characterized by fast fixes which have unforeseen consequences, like the fish-killing algae in the Golf of Mexico from the increased fertilizing upstream Mississippi to generate more crops for ethanol. And I am not even counting the fact that it costs more energy to produce ethanol than what is available when using ethanol.
But there are also economic consequences of grand proportion. Germany is a good example: With these zealot Socialists there are laws which force the power companies to buy energy produced as "green" energy at state-guaranteed rates. To give an example: Large power plants provide electricity at 3 cents/kWh, somebody with a solar panel on his roof gets about 50 cents/kWh for energy fed into the system. As it is usual with socialist ideas - the consumer/taxpayer pays. Because of that and many other examples, the price for electricity has risen by 100% or so over the past 10 years.
The by far biggest nonsense, however, generated by these green idiots are the so called carbon credits. These things are traded on Exchanges in the meantime and create an enormous amount of problems. That is what Gore bought to compensate for his large house.
Here is the thing: We need to do something about energy, but for a completely different reason than what is said by the Left: The Arabs and Russians are using OUR money to by OUR companies and real estate. That needs to stop NOW. I have said that before: There are a lot of measures we can take which don't cost anything. I bet if we were more careful with our energy at home and in office buildings (why are they lit at night??) we could save probably 25% of electrical energy in this country.
Obviously, we need to get more of our plenty own oil and gas, which buys us time to do the right thing for renewable energies, instead of firing from the hip. One of the reasons people look into hydrogen is that it is the matter which is available most plentiful (and it is not true that it is emitted in the form vapor - it comes as water). But, generation of hydrogen is still too expensive and too energy consuming. But there is hope, and there are plenty of other possibilities. We just need to put our mind to it.

Herr Z I couldn't agree with you more if I tried real hard. The transfer of money to nations which DO NOT have our best interests at heart is horribly counter-productive. And carbon credits...LOL! What a scam. Did you know that Algore owns a carbon credit company?

Morgan.....the very fact that more in the media don't (won't) cover the truth about MAN MADE global warming worries me ALMOST as much as the fact that they're SO in the bag for Obama they haven't awakened to the realization that they're voting for a guy who Hamas, Farrakhan, Jeremiah (GD AMERICA) WRight, Ayers, etc etc are voting for.

You guys have it wrong. CO2 is not the culprit, CO is. And where do you think the CO comes from? Every time a bleeding heart liberal opens his or her mouth, CO is emitted and drifts skywards to cause global warming. So the answer to the global warming epidemic is for all of us to stop giving the leftards a reason to rant and rave and spew forth their dangerous, bad, and evil, breath.
Great post. Liberalism in itself is a big lie. The whole purpose of the global warming scare is nothing to do with science. The goal is to have an excuse to increase the size of government.
Anyone who does not see that Global Warming is a Marxist Plot is either a Dupe or a Dope ––– usually both.
