Democrats DO think we're DUMBED DOWN.......

Michael Moore says the Democrats should run Oprah Winfrey and Tom Hanks for President and VP.   This is the mindset of the Far Left.............STAR power.......and, you know, these people could win, they really could.  In the linked article, he compares Oprah Winfrey's running as a star to Ronald Reagan's running as a star.   Yes, he does :-)
With the lack of knowledge we see in too many Americans, with a mindset of adults thinking it's okay to indoctrinate kids through singing the praise songs to Obama we've all heard, and the way our media writes celebrity headlines while really troubling problems are happening in America, many would vote for Oprah/Hanks, you know that.
There is no respect for dignity, integrity, intelligence, experience.......the fact that Michael Moore could even seriously promote this idea says so much about the far Left which are such fans of his.

IF YOU COULD NOMINATE 2 CELEBS FOR PRESIDENT AND VP, WHO WOULD THEY BE?

GEEEZ

This is as close to a tacit admission that leftists are actually incapable of rational thought as we're going to get out of Michael Moore.

Dr. Dre and Lady Gaga

Of course.

Beamish people are realizing. One of my acquaintances who would bash Palin and is a Liberal told me the other day he was very worried about the debt and didn't believe in wealth redistribution. People are seeing the truth now.

The big benefit of Obama's presidency: force people to position themselves politically and understand their beliefs better instead of being complacent.

I am acquainted with a local businessman who went to High School with Michael Moore and I wish he would speak about what he knows about that guy.

I don't know about president but I could see several of them making good Congressmen. Gary Sinese comes to mind.

AOW, it is horrifying, isn't it. And I do believe they'd win.

I've got a story about Paul Krugman I'll be hoping to post soon...but maybe midnight tonight. WOW, you won't believe it.

Second choice if you don't want a pothead for pres:

Bob Dylan (wisdom of age and there'd be no wars)

Matt Damon (you'd have youth and he is smart)

sue said...

Say what you like, I like Johhny Depp. He just sometimes doesn't choose the right scripts to work on. The younger set would vote for Capt. Jack.

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Sue,

I doubt Bob Dylan could end any wars. There's around 30 of them blazing around the world, and leftists and / or Muslims are the belligerent instigators of all of them.

And "Matt Damon is smart" is a statement so far from reality it breaks grammatical rules about subject-verb agreement.

I can't argue about whether or not we should have a pothead President. I'm waiting for the candidate who will answer the question "Have you ever smoked marijuana?" with "Are you for real? Man, I'm as high as bird nuts right now"

;)

I don't mind if celebrities run for the presidency, provided they've actually accomplished something beyond making big bucks pretending to be someone else.

From all I know about the man, Gary Senese is a solid American; I respect the work he does for wounded veterans. Maybe he should run for congress first? I agree that Matt Damon is a good actor and smart, if you think the progressive left is a particularly laudable place to be. But at least he's a good actor.

I guess by asking for CELEB nominees, we can't use EXPERIENCE here, so it's not fair for me to say "What about REAL EXPERIENCE?"

This has been fun, thanks for chiming in...give me more!!

Je vous en pris!

I'd consider Gary Senise and (SUE...) Anjelina Jolie's dad, Jon Voight.......people once wanted me to meet him as a set-up before Mr. Z and I didn't.....I often wonder about that :-)

MK< the Republicans couldn't mop the floor..we have half a country which actually believes Oprah and Hanks would be a great idea...they want FREEBIES, they want KUMBAYA..imagine them if terror struck again?
Here's what THEY'D say in that foghorn Bush used to threaten our enemies if muslims killed another 3000:

"DO YOU HEAR US? We're REALLY SORRY WE PISSED YOU OFF AND, LOOK...YOU CAN HAVE KANSAS, OKAY, AS A GOOD WILL (HUNTING, for Damon) GESTURE? PLEASE DON'T HURT US, WE'LL ALL BECOME MUSLIM, IT'S ALL RELATIVE, RIGHT? EVEN BUSH SAID WE ALL PRAY TO THE SAME GOD! HE MEANT ALLAH, WE SWEAR HE DID! YOU CAN HAVE THE WHOOOOLE BIBLE BELT, WE DON'T WANT 'EM...JUST PLEASE DON'T HURT US, OKAY? PRETTY PLEASE? WE'LL SEND BOB DYLAN FOR A PEACE CONCERT TO MECCA, HOW'S THAT?"

Hmmm...come to think of it, I don't recall that President Bush EVER called the mainstream media and their liberal followers "our enemies".

So it all go's back to Z. Ask her what classy means.

I'm obviously not Z, but like to think of Jesus Christ as the standard of "classy". He is the Man who promised to die for the sins of His beloved, yet undeserving creation and kept His word to the end in spite of the abuse and rejection He received.

Not one of us measures up to that one...but it's definitely a worthwhile goal. And there are those who visibly mirror Christlike "class" far better than others.

Heather - So you are saying that George Bush is 'Christlike?'

Hi Sue,
I don't think I said that. It's not what I meant, anyway.
To be honest, I do not know the spiritual condition of George Bush and was not intending to specifically speak to whether or not he is "classy". I am sure that he (like me) doesn't always reflect Christ's nature. At other times, perhaps he has.

What I meant is that Jesus Christ is the standard by which God measures all character qualities. If I use the constantly shifting yardstick of what other people are like, I can feel pretty darn smug on some days and an absolute loser on others.

When I look at God's standard, I know without a doubt I'm a loser--but one that is loved and forgiven, nonetheless. And that recognition is what encourages me to not remain satisfied with a definition that limits my perspective of what it means to be "classy" to always-changing human ideals.

Does that make sense?

H

Craig and Heather said...

Sue,

I also want to say that it isn't my intention to debate you on a theological level. It's just that I believe a Christian's overall perspective of what is classy or honest or admirable or whatever is largely shaped by our faith, even if we don't consciously recognize it.

I don't know what classy means. I do know this, however: the loved ones of those killed and injured during the attacks of 9/11, having met with the President and first lady think of George Bush as a good and upright man. The parents, wives, children of those killed in action, and service men and women horribly wounded regard former President Bush as genuinely compassionate. Obviously, these people disagree with Sue, but I am not at all surprised she made such comments. I think there is room for criticism of George Bush, and I certainly think Sue is entitled to her opinion. Yet, there is something about Sue and her comments here that reflect the kind of utter hatefulness we’ve come to expect from the American left. Sadly, there is no cure for what ails her.

sue said...

Heather - The truth is, I don't really like the word 'classy.'
I think it has a connotation that is pretty limited.

As far as being Christlike, Jesus is the only One who is and will ever be Christlike. I know that is the goal that many try to attain, but really can't reach.

And the more that they think they are Christlike, the farther away they are from being that.

We can only try to live our lives the best we can - as Jesus put it, loving God and our neighbor. As far as being Christlike, well, we should just leave that to Christ.

That's fine, Sue. I'm really not a label-lover myself. It is possible to end up with the concept of classiness being nothing more than a culturally defined soap-bubble presentation rather than anything of true substance. I was just noting that when some use the term, they do not simply mean "has impeccable table manners, a flashy smile, expensive clothing and commanding stage presence".

And the more that they think they are Christlike, the farther away they are from being that.

Well, yes, if you are referring to a Pharisaical "thank God I'm not a sinner" attitude. But I don't believe it is wrong to recognize quality of character in others, even if we are to be careful to not place any individual (including one's self) on a pedestal from which he can fall and break his neck when he proves to be human after all.

I do want to be sure to not appear to be speaking for Z. The discussion was just interesting to me.

sue said...

Heather - What I said about one thinking that one is Christlike comes from something I heard once that I thought was interesting:

It goes something like - those who think they are the closest to God are often farther away than they think. Maybe it is the humble person who has the right idea.

Craig and Heather said...

Sue,

That is interesting, and I agree with you concerning that thought on humility.

People who demonstrate a humble nature are not out advertising it. But we can recognize it when we see it in the way they treat others and, often, in a willingness to be corrected when they make mistakes. It is a character quality that might appear to be "weak" to some but to others will speak of strength in spite of genuine vulnerability.

With respect to the original request for a definition of the term, I think it is possible that a person who displays a humble attitude could be considered to be engaging in "classy" behavior at that given moment.

I hate the word CLASSY, too, but if some of us don't know what CLASS by itself means, there's a big problem.
CLASS is a president not insulting his successor, for example..that's not arguable.

CLASS is a man getting up for a woman on a bus.
CLASS is giving too much change back to the cashier.
CLASS is a lot of things..oh, and...

CLASS is that think leftists are using to indoctrinate our kids in (surprised ya, didn't I!!)

The minute one thinks they are anything NEAR Christ-like, they're going against Scripture; we do not boast...ever.
I cringed the other day when someone announced to a large group that I'd done something nice for someone else. I CRINGED. I did not do it for public knowledge, I was stunned and almost hurt at the revelation, and I"m sorry to mention it here but do so only to make my point.

Your point is well taken, Z. Not too long ago, I encountered someone who insisted we CAN attain a sinless status and it had me disturbed for weeks.

When I referred to being "Christ like" I couldn't think of a better way to say what I meant, but can see now how wrong it looks in print.

I was trying to say that certain behaviors in others will (however imperfectly) remind me of my appreciation for Who Christ IS. There was a mental leap on my part from what classy looks like, to why it would be defined a certain way.

Pris

Pris - Ok, I'll give it a shot.

This is what comes to mind for me when I think 'classy.' My definition has nothing to do with George Bush, it's just what I think.

1. classy is walking away from, let's say, a failed relationship with your head held high.

2. sometimes I think of classy meaning money and style.

3. dressing classy

4. classy could be treating another person like they are a human being instead of looking down at them.

Google says:

~high standards of personal behavior
~elegant, stylish

They gave an example: donating her salary bonus to charity was a really classy thing to do

List of antonyms: elegant, courtly
fine, graceful, handsome, majestic, refined, stately, tasteful

Heather, I SO understand what you meant by "Christ Like"...the only reason I chimed in was because you were having the give/take with Sue. Just thought I'd throw in my fifty cents (inflation :-)

I so don't believe ANY OF US can be Christ like that I resent those bracelets that say WWJD? WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?
I say "NONE of us could or would do what Jesus would do.....it should say PAUL so we can at least STRIVE to attain that!" Even PAUL would be impossible to emulate but at least he was HUMAN :-)

Sue, I have always considered CLASS more someone's character and carriage........but I looked in my dictionary now, too, and it's mostly about elegant style. WHO KNEW?

I stand by my statement..it shows a guy has CLASS when he won't criticize badly his successor!! etc etc.....

Heather, I also dislike "I ACCEPTED JESUS" My response, usually under my breath, is "THAT was big of you!" AS IF!
The BIble says 2394729874239847 times that HE picks US.....I know what people MEAN by that when they say it, but it's so ludicrous it always kind of makes me laugh. When we ACCEPT JESUS (!) it's HE who's extended the invitation, it's HE who made someone's heart leap to the point that they accepted an altar call (if you're into that stuff), it's HE who gives us faith.

that ought to bring some rousin' argument..bring it on!! but only a while, Heather, before I say I don't like discussions of theology here (aren't I a hypocrite thought?! OH, well, it's my blog! :-) (I'm laughing here..!)

The knowledge of that double-sided reality has been such a relief.

When we ACCEPT JESUS (!) it's HE who's extended the invitation, it's HE who made someone's heart leap to the point that they accepted an altar call (if you're into that stuff), it's HE who gives us faith.

Amen to that. And I'm so thankful He didn't leave it up to me.

I agree with you Z. I think it's related to dignity. Self restraint in one's behavior, a lack of pettiness, and a dash of humility for good measure.

To me looking classy is nice, but one's bad behavior can ruin that look really fast. My sister and I grew up hearing, "pretty is as pretty does".
