Stone's son, Ali..........What do you think of this?

US filmmaker Sean Stone, son of Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone, converted to Islam on Tuesday in Iran, where he is making a documentary, he told AFP.
"The conversion to Islam is not abandoning Christianity or Judaism, which I was born with. It means I have accepted Mohammad and other prophets," he said in a brief telephone call from the central Iranian city of Isfahan, where he underwent the ceremony.
Sean Stone's famous father is Jewish, while his mother is Christian.
The 27-year-old filmmaker did not say why he converted.
According to Iran's Fars news agency, Sean Stone had become a Shiite and had chosen to be known by the Muslim first name Ali.
Sean/Ali Stone has acted in minor roles in several of his father's films, and has directed a handful of documentaries.

Well, don't look now, Sean (oops...Ali), but you have a fascinating and unusual view of Christianity and Judaism.  Of course, your free will gives you the opportunity choose what you want from Christianity or Judaism, ignoring Scripture, and think you're not abandoning it.   God bless you and keep you in your decision.

sounds like more Hollywood brainwashing, only this one was brainwashed at home as well.

I hope he and Yusuf Islam will be very happy together.

This is what happens when Judaism and Christianity teach weak theology...or don't teach at all, just 'give 'em what they want to hear' (Christians are 'better' than Jews on that, by the way, "Don't like that theology? Disagree with God's wrath of the Old Testament? Just turn to the New Testament!!"!!)...of course, I don't know the Stone family, and they might be pillars of their neighborhood church, but without knowledge, it's easy to say things like what Sean Ali Stone's saying, isn't it.

May he be happy now and for eternity. yike

Actually, it may be a retreat from just the opposite, fundamentalism.

A leap from the frying pan to the fire? Likely, but to ask people to believe the OT literally is a strictly minority position.

My hunch why he did this would be a desire for attention which the craven Hollyweirds desire incessantly.

Recent studies show IQ to be more a function of heredity than anything else. We know where got his extraordinary intelligence.

Maybe it works for him. I don't understand my own little sister's conversion to Islam.

Ducky, your theology is so insular and odd for a Catholic that I never know quite how to address it.
It's not really even worth more comment, but thanks for your comment.

It's such a very long leap from true Bible-believing Christianity (and, after all, there IS no other 'how to' book on the faith) to Islam that we've just got to figure the son doesn't know much and now is trying to cover all his bases!! :-)

'Truth teams'-Ali Stone-(no difference between Christianity and islam--Okkkkkkk)-

It's time for a Starbucks double shot of espresso (SBucks supports the second Amendment-)-
Happy Valentine's Day to you-my friend-

I am a firm proponent of freedom of religion. Personally, I do not care what religion he embraces, if any at all. I will only observe that Mr. Stone is fortunate to have the opportunity to choose his religious affiliation —Iranians don’t have that choice. What amazes me is that this “intelligent” American selected the least tolerant of all religious affiliations; on that note, let us hope, for his own sake, that he is not also queer.

If I didn't know better I would say this is a Saturday Night Live skit (it may be one by this weekend).

This is too funny. I'm giggling over here. We have dad, Ollie Stone, and now son, Ali Stone. So it is the Ollie & Ali Show :-)

This is truly sad. Another person misinformed of Islam.

It's so sad how Hollywood people are so easily persuaded.

@ Z: Ducky, your theology is so insular and odd for a Catholic that I never know quite how to address it.

Actually, Ducky is a fairly representative Catholic, especially when you consider the entire global Catholic community.

Latin American Leftists are not atheists; they are Catholics who appeal to Jesus' teaching as they fight the oligarchy.

Catholics in this country voted for Barack Obama over McCain, and I predict despite this firestorm, they will again. Catholic America is neither a GOP nor a conservative bastion.

Well z, I'll point out a couple things.

1. Catholicism doesn't place a lot of emphasis on the O.T.
I'm in a sect that does place most emphasis on the here and now and Christ's instructions on how to live and create the kingdom on earth.

2. Judaism and Islam have a lot in common. Some sharia sects and Leviticus are quite similar

Debbie! That's HILARIOUS!

KP...thanks, and Happy V Day to you, too!

SILVERFIDDLE....how 'representative'? Is he representative of your faith? Are most Catholics you know pro choice?
Or do most deny that the Bible is inerrant and God-breathed?

I'm curious.

One doesn't have to emphasize the O.T. but it does help to understand it.....The O.T. is like the bones of the body and the N.T. is the flesh.....without the OT, WOW, is there a lot of the richness gone from the NT. But...whatever SECT you're in is your choice... cool

And, you're right about Islam and Judaism. Except you won't find a ton of people on either side admitting that, trust me.

I think that I know why Stone's son did this: He saw that Muslims are committed to their faith. That daily prayer routine is powerful to watch!

Z said...

AOW< that's another thing our churches have neglected; encouragement and discipline to our beliefs. You do have a point

Elmers Brother said...

Muhammad did borrow from Judaism. The OT is about redemption like the NT. We kept screwing up and God kept forgiving. The story of His Grace never changed.

Christianity without the Bible is powerless and truthless. I cannot see the Stones as strong believers in either Christianity or Judaism, and a soul denied healthy food will consume poison.

And Mr. Huntington is absolutely right.

I am sure Stone is okay with this.
He might not have survived had his son joined the 700 Club.

OH, BEAK...SUPER POINT...absolutely so true! xx
