Pink skies, pigs and whales..........

These are pictures taken a few days ago in Niuatoputapu....ever heard of that island?  I hadn't, either.  It's somewhere between Tonga and New Zealand.  Ms. Z is there in the 16th month of her sailing trip.   SO many fantastic pictures but I thought these were neat..........she said the island has pigs everywhere...........and that pink sky is so gorgeous!
Here are a few of the children playing...........wonderful...
I don't know anything about them, but I couldn't help thinking how amazing it is that they have no idea their pictures are being seen by Americans across this country on GeeeeZ.   I love that.
I'll leave you with this:
I'm not too much of a 'pretty picture' admirer of photography;  I like gritty pictures of people/buildings, and mostly black/white, but these are so nice I had to share them, compliments of Ms. Z, whose dad died four years ago today.  He'd be so excited about her sailing adventure.

Z - Has it really been four years.

I knew those were Ms.Z photos. No one takes pictures like she does.

You will be in my prayers today.

Jen, thanks so much.

AOW, yes, she said she's never seen anything like it...pigs everywhere!

Sue, I appreciate those prayers.

Mustang did such a beautiful tribute to Mr. Z.

My Cons. Values...and they're finding out now, thanks to FOX (no other media outlet cares), that the administration had known about the service mens' benefits for days and did nothing until conservatives sounded the call.
I wish the entitlement grabbers would finally understand how bad Obamacare really is and why the GOP had to stick to their guns. Someday, they'll wish they'd sided with the GOP and tried everything to get this gov't to slow down and be thoughtful and figure out what to change and how to help others while not destroying the healthcare of the rest of us. But, alas.

Good morning, Z. The pictures are wonderful, and coming directly from his brave, adventurous daughter as they have, they make an especially fitting tribute to your dear husband whom I remember very well. He was an excellent photographer, himself, wasn't he?

I'm glad too that you have indicated that there is an important difference between true beauty and mere "prettiness."

Those children have such beautiful faces. I'd love to learn more about them -- what language do they speak? -- what is their ethnic heritage? -- what do they do to sustain and amuse themselves on a small Pacific island? -- are they in touch with the larger world and ware of all the crises that trouble us so greatly? -- what role did they play, if any, in World War Two, etc.

Ms. Z really ought to be putting all her material together to be published in The National Geographic. It would make a fine article -- possibly a whole SERIES of articles.

FT..thanks.Yes, Mr Z had a terrific eye, too.

She is scheduling speaking engagements in LA in mid January thru February, when she'll be here after New Zealand. She'll also be lecturing to a photography class at the school I'm associated with.

She plans on publishing, too, in some way.

Please Google the name of the island...I think I included it in my post; I hope you find out information on it! Your questions are good ones.

I will say that she has been on islands where they have no stores at all. They radio other larger islands and, WHEN tourist sailboats are going to stop by, stores will send things to those remote islanders thru those sailors. Amazing lives. NO exterior input...very few people. interesting. I can't imagine what inbreeding occurs, come to think of it!

MCV: Good call.
Z: Beautiful pix.
Don't you think all that gorgeous scenery would get boring after a while.
No, I didn't think so.
Don't know what to say, but I pray you get through the day remembering how wonderful Mr. Z was without getting sad over missing him.

FROM Z:

thanks, everybody....

Two students brought me a dozen red roses (one of them and I'd talked about French food recently and she asked what Mr Z did in France and what he does now, so I told her about today)....and a teacher brought a plant and card. Amazing people.

As are all of you. z

I'm so fond of you all.

Some of you've been commenting with me all the way back to when Front Page was a terrific blog; that must be about 12 years now because I was still in Paris when I started that, I believe.

ALL of your caring comments touch me. Thank you. What truly good people you are.

There is an airport in Niuatoputapu, Mataʻaho airport, which is designated to accept international flights. The population of Niuatoputapu was 934 in 2006. The inhabitants formerly spoke the Niuatoputapu language, but it has now been extinct for centuries. Now the inhabitants speak Tongan. Nevertheless Sāmoan, ʻUvean and Futunan elements can be noticed.

All this stuff about the island appears on Google, but very little is said about the people, themselves, and the way the people live, etc.
