Nothing quite beats family get-togethers with political differences.

Z, I'm happy to say, we have no big political differences. That only happens if I include our broader extended family.

My family and my sister's are of one mind when it comes to politics. Oh, happy day!

As to colorful, are you crazy? I've told them about your blog, and I'm not nutty enough to cause a rift for the sake of a few laughs.
Well, I am but, let's just say we all have our more colorful moments. How's that for diplomacy?

Politics on Thanksgiving? No time... Gotta eat and watch football!

On my mom's side, I immediately gravitate towards my favorite uncle. I call him "Unc". He has the most contagious laugh and he ribs me about everything I've ever done wrong. I'm his favorite niece. ;-)

Politics at the Thanksgiving table....exactly right! THAT could be a problem!
(I think of conservative radio talk show host, Monica Crowley and her sister, Mrs. Alan Colmes, who gets up every morning, according to her "wondering how I can be more liberal!")

MK.."mean"? Could be FAVORITE relative...like Pinky said...I said "colorful", not "nasty!" (LOL)!

My father is a pro-Union man. It's a subject that my mother banned from table discussion during the first Reagan term.

On a side note, during Reagan's first term I purchased two personalized toothbrushes - a 'Ron' and a 'Nancy'

I slipped them into the back of the fixed toothbrush holder in the main bathroom at my parents' house while visiting on Thanksgiving. There they stayed until well into 1989...to my surprise. Dad never mentioned it, but mom said he found it pretty funny.

Happy Thanksgiving and God bless!

Just me and the wife this year. The kids are not coming home, so we will probably go to the Shoney's up on the lake for Thanksgiving dinner. They have a nice meal and we don't have to clean up.

Yep we all have them

Oh, Conservative...TELL!! What a tease!

I had a mean old aunt who'd take offense at something perfectly innocent that someone said and then pull her nephews, my dad and his brother, away from the group so she could weep and get attention. True. She wasn't all bad, but she loved attention. Finally, the wives convinced their husbands this had to stop! And it did.

Other than that, and she's been gone about 15 yrs now, it's one big happy family.

obob - that's not silly at all, what a nice way to spend the evening. Your family sounds great.

Hermit - I heard this joke just last week. -

A husband/father called his kids to tell them after 44 years of marriage he and their mother were getting a divorce. Needless to say, the kids were shocked and upset, and said they were coming to talk them out of their plans for divorce and not to do anything yet.
When the man hung up he turned to his wife and said, "the kids will be here for Thanksgiving".

I love Maxine.

Now that most of my family is gone (the next life or moved), we celebrate with our neighbors. That's a divided house (husband = Dem, wife = conservative), so we avoid most discussion of politics.

But I will say this for my Dem neighbor: he's of the old school of liberalism and a rational person, not a Koolaid drinker. He's already regretting his vote for Obama, but as a pacifist, my neighbor can't support the war. But give my neighbor the facts, and he moves right quite a bit.

So, we'll break bread together on Thursday. Then the men will hit the sofas in front of the TV and commence snoring while the women will sit around and chat over coffee. It's the same routine every year!

Pris..perfect joke to share here..thanks!

AOW..sounds blissfull (and quiet. Mine isn't quiet...29 at the uncle's)
Nice to hear about a rational Democrat. I wonder how MANY are regretting their choice already.....if the media'd not lied and misrepresented everything so much, he would never have won.

have a happy day.
