Does NOTHING ever stick to THEIR GUYS?

(-Anybody got a caption for Rahm and Barry in the picture?? Fire away)

February 17, 2009

NEWS broke last week that Rahm Emanuel, now White House chief of staff, lived rent- free for years in the home of Rep. Rosa De Lauro (D-Conn.) - and failed to disclose the gift, as congressional ethics rules mandate. But this is only the tip of Emanuel's previously undisclosed ethics problems. (Z: News broke LAST WEEK? Did you hear about that 'last week'?)

One issue is the work Emanuel tossed the way of De Lauro's husband. But the bigger one goes back to Emanuel's days on the board of now-bankrupt mortgage giant, Freddie Mac.

Emanuel is a multimillionaire, but lived for the last five years for free in the tony Capitol Hill townhouse owned by De Lauro and her husband, Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg.

During that time, he also served as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee - which gave Greenberg huge polling contracts. It paid Greenberg's firm $239,996 in 2006 and $317,775 in 2008. (Emanuel's own campaign committee has also paid Greenberg more than $50,000 since 2004.)(Z: Wait. Not the same Greenberg in whose home he lived free?!! What a coincidence, huh?!)

To be fair, Greenberg had polling contracts with the DCCC before - but each new election cycle brings its own set of consultants. And Emanuel was certainly generous with his roommate.

Emanuel never declared the substantial gift of free rent on any of his financial-disclosure forms. He and De Lauro claim that it was just allowable "hospitality" between colleagues. Hospitality - for five years? (Z: for a millionaire?)

Some experts suggest that it was also taxable income: Over five years, the free rent could easily add up to more than $100,000. (Z: "some experts suggest?" H&R Block knows this! Heck, I KNOW this!!)

Nor is this all that seems to have been missed in the Obama team's vetting process. Consider: Emanuel served on the Freddie Mac board of directors during the time that the government-backed lender lied about its earnings, a leading contributor to the current economic meltdown.

The Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight Agency later singled out the Freddie Mac board as contributing to the fraud in 2000 and 2001 for "failing in its duty to follow up on matters brought to its attention." In other words, board members ignored the red flags waving in their faces. (Z: and Oh, brother, are WE paying for that now)

The SEC later fined Freddie $50 million for its deliberate fraud in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

Meanwhile, Emanuel was paid more than $260,000 for his Freddie "service." Plus, after he resigned from the board to run for Congress in 2002, the troubled agency's PAC gave his campaign $25,000 - its largest single gift to a House candidate.

That's what friends are for, isn't it?

Now Rahm Emanuel is in the White House helping President Obama dig out of the mess that Freddie Mac helped start.

The president's chief of staff isn't subject to Senate confirmation, but his ethics still matter. Is this the change that we can depend on? (Z: CHUMP CHANGE)

By Dick Morris and Eileen McGrath

OKAY....Sometimes, people do the wrong thing...RIGHT? Now picture this: ANYBODY on Bush's staff did anything CLOSE to all of this and what would the media be doing?! Ya, I know, too.

Double standards eh, you are right, if that were Bush, we'd hear about it, but because it's obama and the left, it's all good. Not a word anywhere.

When he said change, he didn't say what kind of change, and fortunately for him, enough were foolish enough to take him at face-value.

Z, these leftists ARE the Looters that Ayn Rand wrote about in her classic, "Atlas Shrugged."

They write tax laws that they have NO INTENTION of abiding by! I've always known this about these elitists and I'm glad it's coming to the fore.

EVERYONE should read Atlas Shrugged! It will motivate you to get a gun. It seems like the Dems have read the book and are now working overtime to be Ayn's Looters.

Part of the plan is to drive the right absolutely crazy.

In only a month we are well ahead of plan.

Remember, z, the Republican pantry of potential candidates is bare. The current politicians are too damaged by their allegiance to Bush policies and the McCain/Palin ticket, so the next available pool is of successful CEOs.
Nice try, but after the fiscal crisis corporate America has dragged us into, people don't have any confidence in them, either.
You need to rebuild the farm team from the ground up. I'd get to work on that rather than the trivia.

California is circling the bowl. Are Republicans coming forward who can deal with the issue. That's what you need to do to get back in the game.

Making the rounds today, from the Miami Herald:

Gov. Sarah Palin must pay income taxes on thousands of dollars in expense money she received while living at her Wasilla home, under a new determination by state officials.

The governor's office wouldn't say this week how much she owes in back taxes for meal money, or whether she intends to continue to receive the per diem allowance. As of December, she was still charging the state for meals and incidentals.

"The amount of taxes owed is a private matter," Sharon Leighow, Palin's spokeswoman, said in an e-mail. "If the governor collects future per diem, those documents would be a matter of public record."

The revelation about Palin comes as U.S. senators, including Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, are under scrutiny over back taxes. A survey by the political newspaper and Web site Politico (www.politico.com) found that Begich was one of seven senators who acknowledged owing back taxes.

Some other state employees also owe back income taxes for travel payments and will be getting revised tax forms, Annette Kreitzer, state administration commissioner, said in an e-mail.

She wouldn't say which, or how many, employees will be receiving the notifications.

The payments became a touchy issue for Palin last fall when she was running for vice president and campaigned as a budget watchdog.

Part of the plan is to drive the right absolutely crazy.

Part of our plan is to let you all demonstrate that you're already there.

Remember, z, the Republican pantry of potential candidates is bare.

And three years ago, Barack Obama was a Jr. Senator in the Illinois state legislature.

...so the next available pool is of successful CEOs.

Now there's a nonsequitur for you.

You need to rebuild the farm team from the ground up.

The farm team has been successfully building Republican candidates for over a hundred team.

I'd get to work on that rather than the trivia.

You've got to card the wool before you can twist or weave it.

California is circling the bowl. Can you say a "Democratic Legislature"?

Are Republicans coming forward who can deal with the issue. That's what you need to do to get back in the game.

Before you deal with an issue, you need to frame it. The incompetent Obama Administration is working wonders for us in that area. Thanks.

Z, OK I'm no satirist by any stretch of the imagination but here's my caption.

Pres. Obama: 'what's that again Rahm?

Rahm: 'I said, Mr. President, tell them to eat cake'.

I think bragging about the duplicity of your so called side of an arguement is extremely immature, offensive and pathetic.

Not the least, bragging of cheating just begs for the gods to slam someone with a bolt of lightening.

Pride goeth before a fall.

Perhaps , Mr. Emmanuel had to service the gentle lady from Conneticut.

If so, I would say he did pay rent then.

JM....or SNAKE tongue!?

MKS...it's going to be 'unfortunately for him' when people get fed up enough.

Morgan, I read that while I was so young I can't remember...got to read that again. Thanks.

Ducky, I'd rather be associated with a party which wants to see the good of the country over driving anybody crazy. How sad.

As for Palin? SO WHAT? Did you think she was a goddess or nothing would ever stick? GOD KNOWS you've all tried! Let's see how far this goes.....I wouldn't throw out this kind of info when we consider Wm Jefferson, Chris Dodd, Barney Frank's living room...on and ON and on!!

We've got Jindal, Pence and probably 10 more who are being noticed a lot. Our cream will rise when your big-spending, secret-spilling, ridiculously incompetent administration's been in power another month.

Arnold of California is a jerk who hired a far left chief of staff and things LITERALLY started going down hill immediately after..that's the truth. He became afraid of halting spending and went stupid on the GLOBAL CHANGE thing, too... At least he isn't Grey Davis, but...
We need Reagan and Deukmejian back; what a successful State this was under them!
As for LA? I had a liberal best friend who, 15 yrs or so ago, said she was voting for Villaraigossa because "Mexicans DESERVE to have one of their own to run our city, don't you think?" I told her we need someone competent, not someone for his race (Riordan had done quite a good job)..Now we see what she and her ilk voted for, don't we. D I S A S T E R

And the Left sucks up to him SO much (including CLinton) that he's considering moving on up the Democrat political ladder..Good job, Ducky! You guys pick such losers! LA's become like dirty politics Chicago since the Lefty took over..amazing.

IHS....perfect caption....

z bigger question here. we know the left will not receive the same media treatment as those on the right, so what do you think is to be done about the "avoidance" to tell us about such stories like rahm's? do we leave it to chance americans will recognize what is going on? do we continue to scream bias? or do we throw our hands up and say this is a losing battle?.... as far as the caption! what sweet nothings do YOU think two lib guys would be whispering!!!

How so? The business class (Mitt Romney?) has always been a source of Republican "talent".

Not sure what you mean there, Ducky, but good point ; Mitt Romney's ideas were so much better than Geithner's last time I heard him interviewed I struggled with a president who won't even listen. sad, very , very sad.

"Now Rahm Emanuel is in the White House helping President Obama dig out of the mess that Freddie Mac helped start."

Well, Mr. Morris, I think you're wrong. I think Emanuel is there to keep Obama on track for their leftist agenda. He's a master at "pay to play" and subterfuge and the game is on.

I think they needed this mess, and may have even been a purposeful part of making it happen. I also think that, the "mess" has made it possible to get passed the leftist wish list, and they're not done.

They got their agenda in like grease through a goose, or I would prefer to say, through a ducky.

Speaking of which, Ducky, if you are correct that driving the conservatives crazy is part of the plan, then you and your planners really are children for whom it's all a child's game, regardless of what happens to the country.

It's clear that all of this is nothing more than a power grab. Most of us know the people don't matter including the poor. The people are pawns on a chessboard, and that's where the left wants to keep us.

So, you have to silence us, because you can't argue on the merits. Your agenda for America has no meritorious value.
So much for freedom of speech.

Welcome to the coming effort at censorship. Hugo Chavez has nothing on you. Aren't you proud?

I already saw Wolf Blitzer and Jack McCafferty railing on Sarah Palin and crucifying her for saying it was a private matter. And as anonymous pointed out "...under a new determination by state officials." Haven't heard a single word about Rahm living as the boy toy in the lefty luny bin for free though.

Full disclosure: I had to pay back taxes for a class that I taught at a local college. The massive amount I received caused me to owe about $50 more in taxes.

Therefore, I am obviously in the wrong party and I will consider changing...
