Yahoo! Grammy's were SHOCKING and EMOTIONAL!

You know, I don't mind Yahoo! mentioning a big night in American entertainment, but the same HEADLINE's been on their home page since last night! I have never SEEN anything last this many hours on Yahoo!

"Shocking" because some guy named BROWN is waiting charges for beating someone up (SHOCKING?) and "Emotional" (Emotional, my gosh, yes, Jennifer Hudson's lost loved ones, THAT, I understand).... but, I'm thinking does Yahoo see what this country's going through with this ridiculous "stimulus package" and yet they call the Grammys SHOCKING AND EMOTIONAL? Are we SO into this kind of thing that we're more stunned and disheartened by Grammy heartache than our own country's well being?
I missed the show last night....which means, I come to find, missing Al Green and Smokey.....THAT, I'm very sorry about....two of my faves. And, I'm a Robert Plant from way back and a newer Alison Krauss fan (thanks to Elmer's Brother)...I'm so behind the times with new music that I didn't know they'd collaborated brilliantly enough to have won, I think, four Grammys! Can SOMEONE link that song to me? Raising Sand? The only video I can find is a discussion by them and the music behind it doesn't sound Grammy award winning to me.
Thanks, I'm really eager to hear the cut.

I stopped paying attention in '68 when they gave best song to "Little Green Apples" and stiffed Otis for " The Dock of the Bay"

Well, Ducky...we agree on something.
I'd recorded "Can I Have This Dance for the Rest of My Life?" for our first song/dance for our wedding... But, our band was so good Mr. and Mrs. Z couldn't help dancing NOW (not waiting for the 'official moment')...and darned if the song wasn't .....DOCK OF THE BAY! DRAT!
One year, maybe 8 years later, we got in the car ON our anniversary morning and that song came on immediately...weird.
Ya, I'm not proud to say our first dance was to that song. But, it's a DARN sight better than LITTLE GREEN APPLES.

And our dance together since then has been pretty darned good!

I love your comment about your dance with Mr. Z. It made me smile.

We now know exactly how irrelevant the Grammys are....Al Gore got one for Spoken Work on his fraudulent book on pseudoscience.

Mike said...

oops, that should say Spoken Word.

I wouldn't want anyone to assume that Gore did any actual WORK. You know, like research on scientific facts.

I'm afraid it's a lit like...the Christians being ate by the Lions...it's all a distraction while Rome burns.

Elbro; exactly my point.
I wish we were wrong.

It's FINALLY changed off the headline...now they're into who wore what clothes and how tasteful or distasteful they were.
Who's taking bets the biggest cleavage is the one "of SUCH style, SUCH grace and beauty..WHAT a trend setter!"

I can't even begin to tell you when actually sat and watched a grammy show.

My radar just doesn't pick up on those things for some reason, and I'm not surprised that Yahoo News called it shocking and emotional, how could they not?

Blessings.

and Z as I've said before with few exceptions the crossroads of Krauss and Plant..it's like fingernails on a chalkboard

elmers brother said...

separately they're ubelievable

I do like this one.

THANKS, Elbro.! Man, I Googled YouTube with their names, the album name..nothing. Of course, I thought RAISING SAND was one cut,not the album name, but... oops!

Well, It's a TEENY bit painful to watch Robt Plant dancing around that "Sonny and Cher" type set with Alison, but the music's okay.
I was hoping it would be a BIT more satisfying but maybe I need more listens..that happens, sometimes.

And, maybe it's just that:

I WANT TO SING WITH ROBERT PLANT ..WHINE WHINE WHINE!! ha!!

Z said...

oh! i DIDN'T SEE your 'fingers on chalkboard' comment till I'd posted that one..Now I can say even more honestly: I REALLY AM NOT IMPRESSED!! Didn't want to say that TOO strongly and step on toes, but..

Ya, My question is WHY PLANT? ANYBODY could do the male leads, particularly on that last lovely song you sent, thanks, it's beautiful. I could hear Vince Gill, Randy jackson...Travis Tritt...anybody; and it MIGHT be more interesting because what Plant's doing is toning his voice to her sweeter sound....NOT satisfying in a duet. NOT the Plant I know. I want both personalities, you know? Like in the Tony Bennett duets, you hear both singers being themselves and doing a great job together.

Ya, I'm not at all impressed and think this might be a GET A CAREER JUMP STARTED again for Plant. As if he needs more money, right!?

If Plant had started clicking his fingers to that little ditty on the stage full of Sonny and Cher props, I'd have had to turn it off NOW.

Give me HONEYDRIPPERS ANY day. !! Thanks for going to the work, Elbro; I really appreciate it!!

I stopped watching the Grammy's years ago. I love music, and I don't consider rap, or heavy metal music.

Neither do I consider people like Madonna or Britny Spears "singers". If you want burlesque, you don't go to a music concert.

One of my New Year's resolutions (hey wait, didn't I blog about those?)was to get my daily news from a source other than Yahoo.

So far, I'm still Yahoo news free even though it's my browser Home Page.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around songs with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss featured together...

from what I understand Plant missed touring with Zeppelin to tour with Alison

4 Grammy's is not very impressive at all when you figure that Obama has 2 Grammy's just for reading his elitist books out loud. My personal highlight from the night was Sugarland. Jennifer Nettles sure has a strong and yet refined voice.

Z said...

Pris...it's hard to think some of that stuff is really'music' per se, isn't it...some can be 'good', but 'music'..notsomuch

Tony..I know what you mean!! take a listen and tell us what YOU think!

Elbro....I guess any guy'd rather travel with a pretty girl!! But, that dispells my "it's all about money" comment, right? Well, maybe he just wanted a change....
But give me back Honeydrippers...!!

Pops, I met a young blonde southern singer at the beauty shop once...every time I hear SUGARLAND, I think that's that group that young Southern girl told me she'd just started. I don't know....probably not, but I think of her and, if it's her, I'm glad she DONE GOOD!

Papa Frank said...

Z -- come on by my place and let me know if the lady singing is the person you ran into at the beauty shop.

Z said...

I will, Pops...as soon as my computer stops hating me. it's acting up again!

For once in a million years I agree with Ducky. Like the Academy Awards, it's all a self-congratulatory mutual admiration society.

Z said...

Ya, but SHoprat...I know that! I'm not saying I'm disappointed with the Grammy's..I know what they're about..

I'm just wishing everyone would wake up to the pettiness of it all.

I DO love music, but these awards are so serious, so self-serving, so debauched somehow...
Funny, I do think competition is a GOOD THING, don't get me wrong...but MY POINT is "HOW IMPORTANT IS THIS with all we're facing in the world right now!"??

ah yes Z..phonies worshipping each other..blech!

I am proud to say that I am awards show free for 15 years now (of any kind). And it didn't require a 12 step program.

I didn't watch it this year.
Allison Krauss is divine, though.
