Non Partisan or TOTALLY PARTISAN? Give me a BREAK

Isn't President Obama doing a GRAND JOB of being NONPARTISAN by the suggestion that he might nominate New Hampshire Senator Judd Gregg to Commerce Secretary? Sounds GREAT, doesn't it? "WHAT a GUY!" "What a way of reaching across the aisle for good people!" "WHAT a very beautiful way of showing he wants to work with both parties!"

Ya, he wants to pick SUCH a fantastic selection for Commerce that it's imperative that he picks a REPUBLICAN (can't blame him for recognizing talent and good values. We can all be pretty sure Gregg has paid all his taxes on time, at least!) !! And, IMAGINE?.....if Franken's cheating gets HIM in, that's it!!!.......NO FILLIBUSTER OPPORTUNITY FOR THE REPUBLICANS! CLEAN SWEEP! HE WINS!! (but, of course, he already TOLD us that, didn't he..“I won,” according to aides briefed on the meeting. “I will trump you on that.” You SURE will.)

"WOW, HOW NON PARTISAN...WHAT A GUY!"

(see that finger he's pointing up there in the photo? If he's chosen on Monday, you won't want to know MY caption for that, TRUST me...and he may well have been selected before I get up on the West Coast)

If Judd Gregg wasn't an opportunist of the highest order, he would refuse the nomination and keep his seat in the US Senate. Yeah, Obama is non-partisan like Daschle is an honest man; but it is Gregg who is scuttling the ship in the US senate, not Obama.

Mustang's right. Obama couldn't do this without Gregg accepting, but then, there is no honor among thieves.

What's puzzling is Gregg is a Senate leader of the minority highly regarded by Senate Republicans. He has clout in the Republican party and by all accounts would win his re-election. Why would he do this?

I don't think Judd Gregg will accept unless the Govenor promises his replacement will be a Republican. I'm from N.H. and know a great deal about both of these men. They are both men of integrity. If the Governor gives his word, he will keep it. Then we'll see if NObama really wants the man---or the seat. He may well "change" his mind if all he wanted was the seat, and we all know how possible that is.

See my post on the subject, I think you will find it interesting.

I agree: this will reveal more about Judd Gregg than Obama. But, I'm waiting for Obama and his media to wax eloquently on how this is so bi partisan, etc., and we have to keep aware of what's really going on.
His offering it to him is so very ugly.

Average; I hope you're right...I REALLY do. The Gov had better have his selection ready to announce and having already accepted 2 seconds after Gregg accepts or BOY, there'll be anger among conservatives, right?! (like that means anything these days?!)

I'm with you Z. My first thought when I heard this was "NH has a democratic Gov right?"

Taking Gregg out of the U.S. Senate will open up his seat to a Democrat.

I love it when a plan comes together.

My, my all of a sudden my Republican brethren are upset that they aren't getting their way and nobody wants to talk to them.

Non-partisanship has always struck me as one of those nice-to-have but impossible-to-achieve states of being. It reminds me of the supposedly sacrosanct ideal of journalism: always be unbiased.

Um, right. We're human. So although I might not overtly inject my opinion into a story I'm writing, the mere fact that I include certain facts while omitting others, and the order in which I state them...well, that's bias! There's no escaping it.

So as idealistic as it sounds to reach across party lines, sing Kumbaya and arrive at a common good, reality dictates something decidedly different.

Nicely put.

Interesting that Gregg's gov is a Democrat, huh, Chuck!? Average American thinks his governor's such a good guy he'd appoint another Republican. THAT, I"ll have to see...maybe. Miracles happen.

Carmi, thanks for coming by! I hope people stop by your place and see the incredible photography and text there. Some presidents here in America really have tried bipartisanship...this one's just talking about it,sadly. He made a big display of meeting Republicans for the stimulus package, too, and listened a little and changed a bit(constituents' emails probably helped) but we're learning now he badly wanted Reps to vote for it so he can't be held up later with "Look what HAPPENED to this lousy plan of yours...see? not ONE REPUBLICAN VOTED FOR IT!"
I'd like to suggest the Republicans caught on to that but they're not usually that astute...I think they were flattered from his coming by (was almost silly to hear them glowing about how friendly he is) and then had to vote against it because it's such a stinker.

You know, everyone, the hypocrisy is, again in the Obama admin., SO evident.
...bipartisanship seems gone in this country because we're SO divided on SUCH basic things: Bush tried too hard by ignoring all the horrid things they did to him at the first days, and then even keeping all the lawyers (a VERY stupid idea which, even today, 8 years later, is going to bite him in the rear), etc....No kudos for THAT!!

Obama promised to 'work together' 'unity'....Then he goes to a guy whose governor is Dem, who has no more particular experience than anyone else in commerce, and whose seat is about the ONLY thing standing between a complete landslide by the Dems? TOTALLY freezing out the voices of 46 MILLION voters? And, did he think we'd not notice this thing with Sen Gregg and its implications? That's almost hurtful to realize he thinks we're all that disinterested or unaware.

Here's the thing: One gets the feeling obama thinks he knows better than we do what's better for America. Oh, and the world, for that matter.."We're going to CHANGE THE WORRRRLLLLDDDD!"
SO, this is all done to teach us a lesson....

I'm afraid to put the news on...I just got up; by now, I'm wondering if it's a done deal.

Gonna be a lonely eight years.

That's right, you are being frozen out. Not that you were that concerned when many millions of us were frozen out.

You had your chance. You backed a lousy horse and the jockey gave it a dead ride.

shoprat said...

I hope he has a little bit of backbone, but in the end most politicians are in it for themselves.

Z said...

Shoprat.....wouldn't that be something if he does have backbone? They say he's a very good guy.

Ducky, we definitely had a lousy candidate in McCain...NO doubt about it. And, obviously, Palin was scarier than heck to the left because they really went after her!! "The Light! The LIGHT...get us OUT of that LIGHT!" An honest, good politician just doesn't fly! And, I think she even pays her taxes on time...imagine!?

THE HYPOCRISY is the thing, Ducky......everybody knows each party tries to snow the other: You never seem to understand O's hypocrisy. Don't TELL US you're such a nonpartisan hotshot then do this kind of thing.

I suggested the same theory Average American had, when we were all talking about this at lunch today. I was hooted down, the thinking being that the governor would promise to appoint a Republican, Gregg accepts and resigns his seat, and then the governor reneges and appoints a Demi. But it seems to me most state governors are honest men, regardless of party so I don't buy that premise.

Ducky, when were you frozen out? Senate Republicans never had a 60 vote majority.

"I love it when a plan comes together."

Especially the "stimulus" plan huh Ducky? You and your comrades must be ecstatic. Why have a successful, free country when you can be on par with the third world?

We didn't back a lousy horse we backed a too trusting, gentlemanly horse. That can't work against snakes in the grass.

Stay tuned!

Pris, if you were paying attention you would have noticed that President Chuck L. Nuts exercised his veto quite often after 2006 and there were not sufficient votes to override.

You spent 8 years building the far right's dream and you got well on your way to trashing the country.

No pardon us if we don't want to listen to the same old nonsense. Come up with something constructive. People will listen believe me but if you think the crap from the last eight years reheated is going to get anyone's attention ... no.

I.H.S...Congress is now mostly Democrats. Obama's a Democrat, so, they win. But, this is America, and there should ALWAYS be CHECKS AND BALANCES, no matter WHICH party is ruling. I firmly believe in that.
When it goes to sixty Dems in the Senate, there will be no checks and balances.
EXCEPT, if that sixty majority isn't met, the Republicans can at least filibuster and drag things out until the truth's learned, until people have had time to discuss things before bills are rushed through with an all Democrat Congress and president.

Mr. Obama has decided a Republican senator's JUST the guy he needs for Sec of Commerce. The problem is that Al Franken's cheating his way into office (he was behind the ballot count until his trip to Harry Reid's office, when SUDDENLY, every single ballot went to HIM and people believe him!) and so that's another Dem seat that was Republican and, if Senator Gregg decides to take Obama up on his offer, the New Hampshire Dem Governor can pick ANOTHER DEMOCRAT to replace the Republican in that senate seat.
SO...SIXTY is reached.
America's got ZERO checks and balances AND 46 million people who do not agree with Obama are completely without representation.
The PROBLEM is the hypocrisy that Mr. Obama talked about unifying and nonpartisanship UNTIL he took office.
Why would he pick a REPUBLICAN for COMMERCE when he knows a Democrat is going to pick the replacement? WHY other than getting his majority!?
Now, he's saying "I WON..." As he said that "trumps" the Republicans.

Others will explain this better here...I hope.

This is the gist of it....Perhaps the decision's been made..I've got to go watch the news for a bit!

I hope that helped.

Well Ducky, President Bush didn't veto enough.

Define the "far right" please.

For me, the immigration reform bill was terrible and I opposed it. I was against the medicare rx bill even though Mr. Pris and I qualify for it.

FYI, the left supported these things.

Finally, the Republicans spent too much. Conservatives are opposed to big government, no matter who grows it.

The "R" after my name does not represent a religion for me unlike the left who worship at the government trough the "D's" love.

They never oppose any measure which grows government and rewards irresponsibilty, which they are proving as we speak.

I'm an American first, a party is simply a vehicle through which certain issues are represented. When they stray from those core values that I support, I'm their toughest critic.

I'll put this as simply as I can. I support small government and essentially want it to leave me and my family the hell alone and stay out of our way!

Pris, I think that the left doesn't understand disagreement within a party because the Dems NEVER fight in public. The Republicans are such a huge tent that there is lots of public disagreement.

Ducky, particularly, is so often accusing Republicans of walking lockstep with everything George Bush did and SO MUCH OF US DO NOT!

You must walk lockstep in the Dem party because EVERYBODY is for large government, everybody feels immigrants should be here because we're so NICE and should allow them, morality is baloney because, after all, 'if it feels good, do it'. etc....they're THERE, they're ONE. (except now that they're going SO LEFT that even Democrats are fighting over the war, for instance)...

So, I'm glad you're reminding that we do NOT all agree with everything our party leaders do. Hopefully, Michael Steele will help the agenda solidify what will put America back on the map..SMALL GOVERNMENT..
That is IF our kids are actually willing to throw aside the chains of liberalness and expecting handouts instead of working for themselves and building a life in which they depend on THEMSELVES only.

Ducky, sometimes the way you generalize and over-smiplify makes me wonder if you have any insight at all.

Good explanation, Z.

I'm hoping Gregg turns down the appointment. I haven't watched the news at all today.

I say let 'em have it.

Everything America will be pissed off about in 2 years will all have Democrat fingerprints on it.

If America didn't WANT the economy to go in the toilet, they wouldn't have Democrats in charge of it in 2006.

Then Ducky insisted I was correct.
