Oh my, how dreadful! I think I was in a dark hole for a while...I finally got caught up on the news and heard and read this. Prayers are going up for sure.
BTW, have you seen the cover of the new Newsweek...a red hand shaking a blue hand with the caption, "We all socialists now." (something like that) I saw it on Fox News this morning.
my friend Gravelrash was almost evacuated over the weekend. His family owns a store there and they were using it for an evac center. Fortunately the danger has passed.

AUSTRALIA has been singled out as a target for "forest jihad" by a group of Islamic extremists urging Muslims to deliberately light bushfires as a weapon of terror.
US intelligence channels earlier this year identified a website calling on Muslims in Australia, the US, Europe and Russia to "start forest fires", claiming "scholars have justified chopping down and burning the infidels' forests when they do the same to our lands".
The website, posted by a group called the Al-Ikhlas Islamic Network, argues in Arabic that lighting fires is an effective form of terrorism justified in Islamic law under the "eye for an eye" doctrine....

Bush fires are pretty common. The extreme dryness and temperature made this event more devastating.
And a lot of these fires are arson and have been for some time. There was an event in the late 70's that was nearly as bad. Nobody could even spell jihad then.
No reason to believe this isn't just part of the pattern.

Brooke, one man said he lost his wife and a child and was begging the docs to save his other child!! this was a case of furiously fast fires not giving even a chance to WARN to 'get out'! It's horrific, absolutely.

Well the BBC is reporting that Australian police are confident of catching the perps. They are obviously intensely angry and motivated.
If it was Muslims then there is going to be a serious backlash obviously. Myself, I don't think it was.

Gravelrash told me that the no one from the public service came to warn them. The people congregated at his store. His step daughter and he helped them with water, etc. He also said that the fires have been deliberately set.
