Do you know that when I moved to Paris in 1999, I very much wanted to see where Gertrude Stein lived..? Well, within 2 months, my Alliance Francaise French school asked our class to meet around the corner at an ancillary class situation.....I got there early, I'm learning against the building wall because it isn't open yet, I glance up across the street and there's a metal plaque saying GERTRUDE STEIN LIVED HERE.
I swear, I couldn't believe it! In a tiny street where I'd have never found it.
Hemingway used to go visit her there...I love that stuff!
Then, a girlfriend and I had dinner in Paris, she's from here, and she says "Hey, I bought the Hemingway apartment today!" I almost literally fell off my chair. I'd just been on a walking tour which had ended at that very front door! and I thought "Man, wouldn't THAT be great to own THAT?"..and VOILA, Christine still does! Imagine??
