Duct Tape or Nail?
A man dies and goes to heaven. St. Peter meets him at the Pearly Gates and says, "Here's how it works. You need 100 points to make it into heaven. You tell me all the good things you've done and I give you a certain number of points for each item depending on how good it was. When you reach 100 points, you get in."
"Okay," the man says, "I was married to the same woman for 50 years and never cheated on her, even in my heart."
"That's wonderful," says St. Peter, "that's worth two points!"
"TWO points?" he says. "Well, I attended church all my life and supported its ministry with my tithe and service."
"Terrific!" says St. Peter..."that's certainly worth a point!"
"ONE point?!! I started a soup kitchen in my city and worked in a shelter for homeless veterans."
"Fantastic! that's good for two more points," St. Peter says.
"TWO points?!!!!!?"
Exasperated, the man cries "At this rate, the only way I'll get into heaven is by the grace of God!"
"Bingo! 100 points! Come on in!" says St. Peter.
We often try to fix problems with WD-40 and Duct tape. God did it with a nail.
Z: Thanks to our friend and commenter Fair Witness for sending the story above to me.......
"But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior." Titus 3:4-6
Have a wonderful Sunday......

I love this. So human, so simple, so true. Thanks for sharing it on your blog, Z. Happy Faith Sunday to you, too.
In our ever over-heated and over-politicized social/ economic environment, Grace is something we are finding to be ever-increasingly short supply...
Speedy, "Grace" in every sense of the word..you're so right. And thanks for coming by. You're missed, believe me, and we all hope you're doing well.
FairWitness, I thank YOU for sending it to me. I was sure I wouldn't get many comments because of the content; this is not a 'Christian blog' per se, though my own opinions are only 'informed', (even political), by my faith, but I do try to keep it more Old Testament than this because I love the Old Testament (the New Testament without the OT, in my opinion, is like flesh (literally, now that I think of it) without the bones )..and because Jews and Christians can glean so much from the O.T.
BUT, I hope people are at least reading it and, from it, thinking about GRACE !
The narrower the gate, the longer the wait... hehe.
I can wait for grace. Patience needs to hurry up though.
you've got the grace, you know that, Beamish! That's the one thing believers all DO have :-)
Nice one Z and it's something well worth remembering.
Now THAT was a great illustration!
