Olympic Highlights?? Newsworthy?

Here are examples of what the MEDIA thinks is important to report on regarding the Olympics:

150,000 condoms were passed to athletes by the Olympics committee.

Michael Phelps is a cold creep because he wouldn't talk to a female Olympian

The Queen had the temerity to look down and pick at her fingernails during the long opening ceremonies

Michelle Obama appearance outshined The Duchess of Cambridge (REALLY? :-) Are you kidding?

There's more...all negative, all gossipy, all sickening.

Thanks, Media........"Happy Olympics, happy dignity, happy athletics, happy times to you, too."  REAL CLASS, huh?

Whatever happened to DECENCY?

I watched some of the opening show last night. Love the history/heritage portion with the conversion from pastoral to Industrial Age.

And that children's choir singing "God Save the Queen"! Wonderful!

However, I gave up from sleepiness and weariness of the agenda when the show about the NHS came on the screen. I know that the NHS is not all bad, particularly for acute and temporary illnesses. But when it comes to certain kinds of care, the NHS fails miserably. I used to be that the NHS did excellent elder care, but I'm not sure that such is true now as the numbers of elderly have skyrocketed.

These opening ceremonies were a waste of my time.Even Paul McCartney couldn't save this one.

But I will say that Mr. & Mrs. Romney looked like the president and first-lady we need. .
And Moochelle, looks af if she wanted to be the Queen.
The liberal media are a bunch of HYPOCRITES.

I have only a mild interest in the Olympics. I mourn the loss of a once great society, made up of mostly exceptional people. There was a time when many of us could be proud of our English, Welsh, or Scottish heritage. As evidenced by the British media, this is no longer true. The British have transformed themselves into feckless liberal scum undeserving of their proud history and fine traditions. This post makes me realize I’ve lived too long.

I turned on the opening ceremonies because my son texted me that they were on and looked cool.
Like Sam, mild interest.
I have little interest in pop culture, only to the extent that it is an indicator of how we've devolved.
That whole show was about pop music and a girl losing her phone and then deep-kissing the guy that returned it to her?

Well at least they didn't have to use the surface to air batteries that are installed.

Although if they'd used them on Mr. Bean or Paul McCartney it would have been a plus.

that's all!

I didn't watch 1 min of the Opening Ceremonies..had just noticed these articles the last few days and they kept getting more and more ugly...and silly.

Enjoy the sports!

"Whatever happened to DECENCY?"

I read an article the other day that suggested the women beach volleyball players would get out of their bikinis and into warmer duds. It is apparently pretty cool, weather-wise, in the UK.

I seem to miss all the stuff on TV. I surfed around last night, and only found some soccer on one of the ATT Uverse Olympic channels.

Who is doing all the coverage I can't find. Do I need Google on my tv? Now, there's a thought...

Z said...

Bob, I'm not sure which channel's covering it but you'll find it today.
The soccer was on because they started the soccer games one day before the Ceremonies.

I read about the volleyball players wearing warmer clothing, too. they wear nearly nothing, so anything's an improvement (see my picture on the post)
I don't know why they bother with clothes at all.

How do you feel about the news that several olympians said there were athletes having sex on the grass out in the open between dorms? And that the Committee feels it's necessary to pass condoms to the athletes (not new this year, by the way)

Just imagine that, in so many years previous, our kids could actually get through a whole Olympics two weeks without having sex with a stranger! stunning, huh?
Sort of like in college years ago when students could actually get through a night of studying, maybe feeling a little randy, but didn't find it necessary to go to the HOOK UP ROOM in the dorm to have sex with a stranger.

How DID we do it? :-)

I caught bits of it here and there since the wife was watching it all on tv.

I was struck by how much that little island has contributed to Western Civilization and the world.

Unfortunately, I've got to agree with a writer at American Thinker:

Olympic Disaster

Where was the recognition of Shakespeare, Francis Bacon, All the poets, writers, scientists? Bagpipes?

Britain has given so much to the world, and that show captured so little of it, and glorified the trivial or the downright damnable (health system, socialism).

Paul said...

Only an uneducated person would claim the British isles have contributed little to the world. Read History.
Only an uneducated person would make false criticisms about an event she did not watch, and relied on biased accounts of what happened.
Do you ever think for yourself?

Z said...

ANOTHER THING I FEEL SHOULD BE ADDED is that I implore you all to read exactly what Romney said about the Brit Olympics.

CBS had that story and obviously thought it was as benign as it was UNTIL the British liberal media started in on him.

ALL HE SAID WAS HE HAD CONCERNS DUE TO THE NEWS STORIES OUT OF ENGLAND THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH SECURITY PEOPLE.

Our leftwing media dopes piled on him when they realized they COULD because England had.

You can't make this stuff up. What he said was TOTALLY right...there were PLENTY of concerns about these Olympics..admitted BY the British but they loved piling it on Romney and then Obama-loving CBS enjoyed it even more.

Quite a story, really.

Oh, was the nasty leftwing media naughty?

Now Governor Olympics could have simply said that he thinks London looks great, hopes the events are exciting and congratulates the organizer.

But no, not Mister Board Room. This guy is so isolated from common sense that he can't respond with any deference.
But don't report it because this type of disengaged thought is what we want in a president. Someone who is so detached he can only act and think as if he's in a board room.

Ducky, ya...
It took forever to find the quote, most aren't printing it, they're just calling it a GAFFE..
the reason they're not printing it is that all he said it was DISCONCERTING that security people had underestimated by the thousands how many guards they needed.

I never thought of DISCONCERTING as critical or a gaffe, but ..

And, actually, the news, before Romney made the innocent remark, was all over the fact that Britian wasn't quite ready. Ya, they thought it was DISCONCERTING, too :-)

Not 'naughty'...just dishonest.

Z: About the "gaffe".
He was asked a question and spoke the exact truth. I even heard an NBC voice during the opening say the same thing about how Brit troops were pulled out of the sandbox to beef up security because of the problems they were having.
Of course he should have given the Queen an ipod with his favorite speeches, returned a bust of Churchill, given Cameron some wrongly formatted DVDs of himself, and had Ann touch the Queen.
That seems to be OK.

Oh, Ed, you are a man after my own heart. Such thoughts are music to my ears. You may not have known it, but you are singing MY song, God bless you.

I did not watch any of it. Virtually everything today is so laced with blatant, agenda-driven leftist poopaganda I just DON'T watch TV, except for old movies and a few reruns of shows made when the world still appeared to have a grip on sanity.

It isn't the immorality that bothers me as much as the coarseness and cheap display of gross, inelegant, unsophisticated, utterly witless claptrap.

Well, as Oscar Wilde -- no stranger to immorality, himself, but Oh what a marvelous creator of memorably stylish prose! -- said, "WHATEVER IS POPULAR IS WRONG."

It's a marvel Her Majesty wasn't caught picking her nose and ingesting the harvest so tedious must this paltry event have been for one of her age and exalted station. I call her a darned good sport just for showing up. If I'd been in her shoes, I wouldn't have bothered.

Louie,

Normally, I would agree with you, but I have been strongly advised on numerous occasions to "herald" the arrival of Wit Humor, Satire or Sarcasm" or at the very least to label it with a "flag" of some sort at the end.

SO, I'm trying my best to cooperate.

Proof once again that no matter what you're damned if you do, and damned if you don't. ;-)

You'd be amazed how often people take remarks intended to be comical very seriously. Feelings get hurt when that's not intended, so I will continue to put "warning labels" on my stuff when it seems to be called for.

FYI: I'm not a great fan of Dave Barry. Oscar Wilde, Bernard Shaw, Noel Coward, Beatrice Lillie, Joyce Grenfell, Cornelia Otis Skinner, Imogene Coca, and the like are much more my style.

I'm a living antique and don't mind it a bit. I humbly thank God each day for the past.

Best regards,

Meanwhile the Oh so "tolerant" disgusting "progressive" morons keep getting press on issues like this...In freaking Bean Town, no less...once...so free...so long ago. And not just for queers.

"Meanwhile, fellow mayor Tom Menino announced that Chick-fil-A would not be opening in his burg anytime soon. “If they need licenses in the city, it will be very difficult,” said His Honor.

If you’ve just wandered in in the middle of the column, this guy Menino isn’t the mayor of Soviet Novosibirsk or Kampong Cham under the Khmer Rouge, but of Boston, Massachusetts.

Nevertheless, he shares the commissars’ view that in order to operate even a modest and politically inconsequential business it is necessary to demonstrate that one is in full ideological compliance with party orthodoxy. “There is no place for discrimination on Boston’s Freedom Trail,” Mayor Menino thundered in his letter to Mr. Cathy, “and no place for your company alongside it.” No, sir.

On Boston’s Freedom Trail, you’re free to march in ideological lockstep with the city authorities — or else. Hard as it is to believe, there was a time when Massachusetts was a beacon of liberty: the shot heard round the world, and all that.

Now it fires Bureau of Compliance permit-rejection letters round the world.

Mayor Menino subsequently backed down and claimed the severed rooster’s head left in Mr. Cathy’s bed was all just a misunderstanding. Yet, when it comes to fighting homophobia on Boston’s Freedom Trail, His Honor is highly selective.

As the Boston Herald’s Michael Graham pointed out, Menino is happy to hand out municipal licenses to groups whose most prominent figures call for gays to be put to death.

The mayor couldn’t have been more accommodating (including giving them $1.8 million of municipal land) of the new mosque of the Islamic Society of Boston, whose IRS returns listed as one of their seven trustees Yusuf al-Qaradawi.

Like President Obama, Imam Qaradawi’s position on gays is in a state of “evolution”: He can’t decide whether to burn them or toss ’em off a cliff. “Some say we should throw them from a high place,” he told Al Jazeera. “Some say we should burn them, and so on. There is disagreement. . . .

The important thing is to treat this act as a crime.” Unlike the deplorable Mr. Cathy, Imam Qaradawi is admirably open-minded: There are so many ways to kill homosexuals, why restrict yourself to just one?

In Mayor Menino’s Boston, if you take the same view of marriage as President Obama did from 2009 to 2012, he’ll run your homophobic ass out of town. But, if you want to toss those godless sodomites off the John Hancock Tower, he’ll officiate at your ribbon-cutting ceremony."
