Elizabeth Edwards

It looks like Elizabeth Edwards is close to death..her doctors are discontinuing cancer treatment and she's been told she has only days to live.  I don't agree with her on much that I know about her, but I ask for prayers for this woman who's only 61 and has had a lot of sadness in her life.

Absolutely. I also pray that if she doesn't know the Lord has her personal Savior that someone will witness to her.

The saddest thing is that her husband has been so self absorbed, she must feel very alone.

I feel very sorry for her, she deserved better. She has suffered through this terrible disease while her husband has been occupied with his infidelity, and downfall.

I knew I could count on geeeeZ readers to be compassionate no matter what the politics.
Thanks, guys..imagine having lost a child and then had your husband treat you like he has now? They say he's very likely to be indicted soon, too....
Aren't they living separate now? Anybody know?
God be with her...apparently, her Facebook entry a day or two ago was thanking people for hanging by her...she's a very strong woman.

Her estranged husband and family have reportedly been close by the last few days...

David, thanks for the information. I hope her husband's presence isn't more upsetting than comforting, you know?

Did you happen to hear Bob Beckel on Hannity tonight? He was standing up for CHRISTMAS Parades, finding HOLIDAY PARADE wrong because "it's the celebration of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ". I nearly fell off the sofa!

I am very sorry to hear of the pain this woman is suffering. I would not wish on anyone, no matter how much I did not agree with their political leanings.
God grant this lady some peace and freedom from pain, for she has surely endured much suffering in this life.

Only DAYS? Gosh, I didn't know she was so close to death. May God grant her peace. Prayers being said for her and her family.

this morning's report is that she might have 'months'...yesterday's said 'days, maybe weeks..'

Whatever, she's one plucky lady and, while I don't admire her politics or the way she backed Edwards (except for the fact that I admire any wife who supports her man), I do admire how she's faced her disease.

Believe it or not, there are many husbands and wives who leave their critically ill spouses. It's not at all uncommon. Newt Gingrich actually talked about divorce issues in his first wife's hospital room where she was being treated for cancer. And he did divorce her. I believe she recovered and is living a healthy life today.

As for John Edwards... I don't understand how he could so betray his wife after all the heartache he and Elizabeth went through with the death of their 16 years old son, Wade, in a car accident. Then they decided to have 2 more children, which required strong fertility treatments to accomplish. I wonder if those treatments may be the cause of her cancer.

How does a husband whose wife has so staunchly supported him, been such a strong partner, worked so hard for him and their family, even agreed to keep his transgressions a secret while denying her own humiliation in order to help his political career, so abuse a gravely stricken, dying wife.

I don't like their political views at all, but this is marriage. I hope Elizabeth finds peace in heaven. She's suffered for so long, in so many ways. She must be so sad. I am sad for her and her entire family. John, you had better rise above your weaknesses and be the husband and father you should be now. I will pray for that.

Elizabeth Edwards has died. Reports state she succumbed this morning at 10:15. May God watch over her family and friends. How very sad.

My gosh, FW.....that's amazing...the first reports were 'days to weeks' and the later one was maybe months.
TODAY?
Well, I prayed for her at a group this morning....and we prayed for the family; may the prayers be heard.
It chokes me up because she was so courageous, NEVER whining in public, etc...
God rest her soul....

I know Z, it is especially hard to lose a mother at this time of year. I hope and pray that John Edwards makes his young children a priority. Who knows how much of an impact the grief Elizabeth had to live with because of his betrayal had on her illness. I can't imagine the stress she was under. I hope John was on his knees begging her forgiveness. She sure deserved much better from him than she got. If I were to guess, I'd have to say John Edwards feels like total crap tonight. His guilt must be an enormous burden on him. What a shame.

I reason earth is short
And anguish absolute
And many hurt

But what of that?

I reason that in Heaven
Somehow it will be even
A new equation given

But what of that?
