Race and Leaders......by the great Thomas Sowell.

Here is Mr. Sowell's article at Investor's Business Daily:

I am so old that I can remember when most of the people promoting race hate were white.
Apparently other Americans also recognize that the sources of racism are different today from what they were in the past. According to a recent Rasmussen poll, 31% of blacks think that most blacks are racists, while 24% of blacks think that most whites are racist.
The difference between these percentages is not great, but it is remarkable nevertheless. After all, generations of blacks fought the white racism from which they suffered for so long. If many blacks themselves now think that most other blacks are racist, that is startling.
The moral claims advanced by generations of black leaders — claims that eventually touched the conscience of the nation and turned the tide toward civil rights for all — have now been cheapened by today's generation of black "leaders," who act as if it is all just a matter of whose ox is gored.
Even in legal cases involving terrible crimes — the O.J. Simpson murder trial or the charges of gang rape against Duke University students — many black "leaders" and their followers have not waited for facts about who was guilty and who was not, but have immediately taken sides, based on who was black and who was white.
Among whites, according to the same Rasmussen poll, 38% consider most blacks racist and 10% consider most whites racist. Broken down by politics, the same poll showed that 49% of Republicans consider most blacks racist, as do 36% of independents and 29% of Democrats.
Perhaps most disturbing of all, just 29% of Americans as a whole think race relations are getting better, while 32% think race relations are getting worse. The difference is too close to call, but the fact that it is so close is itself painful — and perhaps a warning sign for where we are heading.
Is this what so many Americans, both black and white, struggled for, over the decades and generations, to try to put the curse of racism behind us — only to reach a point where retrogression in race relations now seems at least equally likely as progress?
What went wrong?
Perhaps no single factor can be blamed for all the things that went wrong. Insurgent movements of all sorts, in countries around the world, have for centuries soured in the aftermath of their own success. "The revolution betrayed" is a theme that goes back at least as far as 18th-century France.
The civil rights movement in 20th-century America attracted many people who put everything on the line for the sake of fighting against racial oppression. But the eventual success of that movement attracted opportunists, and even turned some idealists into opportunists.
Over the generations, black leaders have ranged from noble souls to shameless charlatans. After the success of the civil rights insurgency, the latter have come into their own, gaining money, power and fame by promoting racial attitudes and actions that are counterproductive to the interests of those they lead.
None of this is unique to blacks or to the U.S. In various countries and times, leaders of groups that lagged behind, economically and educationally, have taught their followers to blame all their problems on other people — and to hate those other people.
This was the history of anti-Semitic movements in Eastern Europe between the two World Wars, anti-Ibo movements in Nigeria in the 1960s, and anti-Tamil movements that turned Sri Lanka from a peaceful nation into a scene of lethal mob violence and then decades-long civil war, both marked by unspeakable atrocities.
Groups that rose from poverty to prosperity seldom did so by having racial or ethnic leaders. While most Americans can easily name a number of black leaders, current or past, how many can name Asian American ethnic leaders or Jewish ethnic leaders?
The time is long overdue to stop looking for progress through racial or ethnic leaders. Such leaders have too many incentives to promote polarizing attitudes and actions that are counterproductive for minorities and disastrous for the country.  (end of article)

Who do you think he means?

So....we have a president who seems to stir racial situations up before he gets the facts, and we have an attorney general who does that and worse.  Actually, he thinks YOU are a racist.
What CAN we do to get fair treatment of everybody in this country?  How can we muzzle this administration long enough to fix things?   When Jackson and Sharpton make their livings being race baiters and playing on the heightened sensitivities of Black Americans, what do we do?  How can we get back to pre-Obama times and even better than that?

Personally, I can't stand the bleeding heart posts that the liberals have been posting about that Poor Innocent "Child" Trayvon Martin.
No one says a word about the long and delinquent wrap sheet this little "Child Thug" had. And that even his own Mother kicked him out of the house or that he had recently been arrested for possession of Burglar Tools and Stolen Jewelry.

Innocent "Child" or a trouble-making Thug?
Zimmerman was attacked by the "Child" thug and had every right to use self defense.
And by the way, did anyone ever think that the liberal media, and these liberal politicians like Obama, Holder, Sharpton and Andrew Cuomo have blood on their hands, by promoting this lynching of a man who was found to be NOT GUILTY??? And by stirring people up to commit violence!...

All you liberal nutball cohorts are so intent upon promoting havoc in the wake of what you call an unjust trial, just because it didn't go "YOUR" way..

Isn't it funny how quick these Liberals are to whine and cry, and riot in the streets now that the shoe is on the other foot!

Well, just try breaking into my house and I will use a broom to pick up your remains after you get 10 slugs in your head and belly from my shotgun.

I found that poll fascinating, especially that black people self-identify as being racist.

In this age of neo-taxonomies like "white Hispanic" (an absurdity--Most Hispanics are white), I can understand why the Ministry of Truth's propagandists in the State Run media have ignored it.

Since President Obama (a self-described black man) took office, race relations have deteriorated. We are not heading to a good place.

Trayvon Martin has been portrayed by his supporters as an innocent youth armed with nothing more than a bag of Skittles candy and a can of Arizona Iced Tea on the night he was killed by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman
We should bloody encourage victims of violence to defend themselves against “innocently” ground pounding and banging their heads into concrete, by any means, including shooting them if necessary. “profiling”, following, getting out of your car had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the aggressor was guilty of the above..
And you people who will not let this verdict be, and wish to protest and riot over it, remember that the facts were proved, don’t forget about all of that! But satisfy your bias by just marching around like a mob of lynch happy hoodlums and scream until you get the verdict you want. This is how justice works, dammit! Get used to it, it works both ways. You can’t have it your way if you don’t like it. But if you march and howl in the streets until you get what you want then go a head. But don’t complain and cry about how the other side behaves. The prosecution was not only bad, but wrong. They had no case at all. Those pesky things we call “facts” and “evidence”, were all on Zimmermans side. But go ahead, try on your theory for size.

Pinning some creepy-ass cracker to the ground and trying to murder him by repeatedly banging his head against the concrete, is not exactly what I’d call a innocent “boy” waling around with skittles and iced tea.
And as for the Civil Tights violation that us liberal want the Justice Dept to file, let us not forget that a problem with a civil suit the defense can hammer Trayvon and all the evidence (the texting for guns, the drugs, suspension from school, punching the school bus driver, the stolen jewelry etc etc) that was not allowed in the criminal trial against George Zimmerman to paint a not-so-rosey picture of Trayvon, CAN BE ALLOWED in this one... so it might not be such a wise move after all.

Interesting thing I just heard that there is a drug used by the Hip Hop community called "Lean" that can be made using candy(mostly skittles) and an Arizona Fruit Drink and cough syrup.

Pretty interesting isn't it?

Unknown said...

It is interesting, Lisa. Even more interesting is the fact that the state of Florida did everything they could to exclude Martin’s condition at the time of the assault; THC was found in his blood, and it was “recent.” And about that dishonesty from the black community that Martin was only armed with ice tea and skittles … how disgusting is that? Oh wait … it isn’t disgusting when blacks lie.

Lisa said...

also the prosecution held back evidence on Martin's phone about how to "win" a fight by mounting someone and breaking their nose. his so "kid" knew exactly what he was doing plus many don't know either is that his father didn't report him missing for 3 days while he lie in the morgue. Sounds like he was a rel sweetheart.
liberals are such s--- stirrers,. I m so sick of them and their phony outrage just to use it as a wedge issue. They are the biggest users of minorities.
I wish it had been one of their homes Martin was staking out and not spotted by someone. There had been over a dozen robberies in that complex in the last year and it wasn't white boys doing the burglarizing. Zimmerman knew a thug when he saw one.

You may call me a "racist" if you want to. I don't care, because I know what is and is not true about myself.

In truth I am a BEHAVIORIST or a CULTURIST -- a very different thing from a RACIST.

I don't care a rat's rump what COLOR you are, or what "RELIGION" you identify with -- or FAIL to identify with. I only care about the way you BEHAVE in PUBLIC, the VALUES and MORES that guide you, the GOALS and ASPIRATIONS you have, and your TASTE in "entertainment."

If you ACT like an "ENWORD," I will regard you as an "ENWORD."

If you ACT like a LADY or a GENTLEMAN, I will regard you as such.

It's the BEHAVIOR and the VALUES, Stupid! ;-)

Deb Dude...probably true.

Crabby...It's always that way ...if they don't get their way, they make new laws (look at Harry Reid right now) or riot, or bus people in, or fight legal voting in case their guy doesn't get in illegally...on and ON and on. And the media's with them, so few people hear the truth.
The things the State kept out of court in the Trayvon trial is amazing... they didn't think it necessary to talk about his past brushes with the law but they sure loved bringing up GZ's criminal justice classes.

SF...I believe they're really deteriorated since Obama, too. But, in fact, everything has, let's face it.

Left of Left; you don't sound Left of Left to ME :-)

Jack and Lisa; I couldn't agree with you more. I am SO hoping that GZ's team sues the State of Fla for all they left out of the evidence, and the length of time it got to them and the extra money it cost them during that extra time.
The people should, too...it's their tax dollars gone if the defense wins the suit.
what a MESS.

Imagine, some of us were pleased the night of the verdict...we legal types who believe in our system felt that most of the problems were over.
what a joke...we forgot it's the LEFT and the RACE BAITERS who'll get things hopped up again.....thru Holder and Obama's apparent wishes.
Of course, Obama knew how to get out of his very unethical earlier insertions by giving a pretty good statement after the verdict. But, as usual, his people are acting quite differently. He's got it made that way "I look good by saying calm down...you guys do all you can to get 'our people' hyped up for trouble...good job!"

“The media covered this story nationwide. Trayvon Martin and his family had protests, rallies, and Internet social media showing their support. The family, the media, and all the supporters, feel that justice was not given to Trayvon Martin.”

Au contraire … Trayvon Martin got exactly what he deserved. Justice was done. And while we can never be sure, Zimmerman, in the killing of the POS Trayvon Martin, may have saved someone’s life in the future.

Impertinent said...

It looks like LA and Oakland haven't learned how to deal with anarchists, terrorists, rioters and thugs since the Watts party?

Let me see...the GZ / TM incident was in FlaDuh...the verdict was in FlaDuh...Sanford is in FlaDuh...blacks in FlaDuh...not quiet...but not rioting like in LA and Oakland?

They should be shot on sight. Period.

Lisa said...

Z I think they would be calling it self defense portraying Zimmerman as the thug like they portrayed him as one now. But the flip side should also be if Martin had the gun it would not have been a legal one due to his past record. The whole scenario would have to be the same. Martin was the neighborhood watch guy concerned about his neighbors and Zimmerman would have to be the one looking suspicious and that that the robberies in that area that they had would have to have been done to black homes by Hispanic men.

Here is another story we never saw any protests over

In regards to that story I just posted ,the left acts like there are still lynch mobs hunting black people when in reality it's the other way around.

Impertinent said...

@Jack Whyte:

Kinda harsh Jack. But I've been saying, as contrary as I am, that TM in death made more of a contribution than he would have in life. He's made mom and pop rich. He wouldn't have done that from prison where he was headed. Now...personally I can't wait for a civil trial against GZ. Every piece of withheld info about this wannabe gangsta will see the light of day...and ultimately prove how incompetent, disingenuous, racist, wrong and illegal the states actions were. And if Rick Scott doesn't throw Corey out with the trash...he'll never sit in that Governors chair or office again.

The race mongers now have upgraded their racism to version 3.0 with a fresh face. While they could have used the faces of 9000 blacks murdered each year...by BLACKS! If they were walking around with a cross for each of those murdered...it'd look like Arlington for gods sake!

Impertinent said...

@Lisa:

"if Martin had the gun it would not have been a legal one due to his past record..."

He'd have to get it from the street thugs...he was 17 and not eligible to get a permit or a legal gun until 21...here in FlaDuh. And with his record, if he had reached 21....he wouldn't have been issued a permit. And according to his text messages...he was readily shopping for a gun too.

Many blacks are in the system one way or the other...and will never get a legal permit to carry.

Ask the scum in Chicago where they get their guns?

Lisa said...

exactly Imp. yep even if he were 21he would not be ale to get a permit. I wonder how many lefties know the names of the innocent children killed in Chicago

Repeatedly banging his head against the pavement but there were only some slight abrasions. Hmmm ...

... no evidence of Martin's DNA on the gun despite being shot at close range and testimony that he grabbed the gun.

No DNA under Martin's fingernails or on his hands.

Just a small trace on one spot of his hoodie.

I'm still curious that Zimmerman's account stood up.
But maybe Debonair Dude or Lsa can fill in the blanks.

Ducky's here said...

Imp, you know damn well that when lefties try to talk about gun control or economic issues it just gets the big shout down.

Ducky, hilarious.
Ya, you know better. The jury was there, experts testified other than to your ridiculous screed here, but you know it all so much better.
I can't believe we have to go thru this here, it would help if you knew a bit more, but GZ probably saved his life by squirming to get his head back on grass and off of the concrete as he was being bashed. Also, I'm thinking the kid had GZ's jacket or shoulders in his hands as he bashed, I don't think he'd stick his fingers up his nose to get DNA.

As for gun control and economic issues. You're kidding, right?

And stop calling people names; it's silly, unbecoming, and needless.

Ducky's here said...

No DNA under Martin's fingernails.

I expected a modicum of curiosity, z.

Bob said...

The real reason that no DNA wasn't found on Trayvon's body is that the body was mis-handled, and the chain of custody was dis-continuous. At least, that's what my wife says. I cannot go against her pronouncements, that of she-who-must-be-obeyed.

After all, it was raining that night, and the guys were on wet grass except for Zimmerman's head. All the prosecution could do was speculate about DNA. There was nothing conclusive in the physical evidence.

Ducky, you really need to look at the physical evidence instead of relying on the old canards of White Man Is Automatically Bad. The hoodie issue is a non-issue in the racial sense. If Trayvon was profiled as a HOOD, then that was OK. He was a hood, especially with his hood up. It only requires a little logic and experience to understand this. I expect you are just having fun throwing non-nonsensical rocks at conservatives.

Bob said...

Whether we want to admit or not, we all harbor prejudices, and many times these prejudices are mistaken for racism. Most of these prejudices arise from our different cultural backgrounds. They do not mean that we hate someone of a different color.

So, what is racism? It seems that most people make it mean whatever they want it to mean, and if it means that we have the ability to identify people by the color of their skin, then we are all racist.

It is almost like pornography. We know racism when we see it. However, liberal America spreads the definition to whatever they want, yet denying that they are by their own definition, racist.

I recently attended a small technical college in the Atlanta area, and was bothered hearing black kids calling each other the "N" word. Not only is this hypocritical, it makes things worse when kids have no respect for kids with the same racial makeup. So, who are the racists in this case?

I don't know what the answers are, but I am willing to join in the conversation about race that Holder talks about. I know my prejudices, and to me one of the marks of maturity is how far we have come in leaving our prejudices behind.

No, I'm not a big Obama supporter. He's far too conservative but do tell how he has caused racism to rise? Myself, I think it has but largely because of an element in the opposition who absolutely cannot stomach the idea of a nigra being commander in chief but maybe you can explain.

Ducky's here said...

Resolved, z?

No they weren't resolved.

Why was there no decent DNA evidence?

The rain?

The fired chief of police (whom you defend) who waited so long before conducting an investigation causing the evidence to be corrupted?

No, the the testimony of the forensic examiner established nothing.
As a result there was no reasonable jury who would convict him of second degree murder.
However, that is a long way from the reaction of the right who are gleeful over the verdict because they can't give a scary kid like Martin the same leeway they give Zimmerman.

Z said...

Ducky, I don't usually talk like this, but if you don't SHUT UP with your "fringe right" crap, you're gone permanently. It's tiring and doesn't help the conversation.
Also, nobody's fringe anything here.

You call Imp names when he and the others here abide by a legal jury verdict based on evidence by experts, so are you suggesting that he's stupid? Or everyone who accepts the verdict is racist?
Do you honestly think anybody who accepts the verdict is happy Trayvon's dead? That's what you constantly have implied and YOU ARE DONE. At least here.

If you want to discuss this rationally and stop acting like you've got some information nobody else has and YOU have it right on this case, fine...if you're going to continue your ridiculous comments about evidence already proven, and still resort to name calling, go somewhere else and spread your hate...or go join those on the streets who can't get a grip and are reacting to the race baiters who need them.

Z said...

Ah, so you wrote one while I was typing mine.

Ya, YOU KNOW more ... getting pumped by your leftwing compadres who simply can't accept the truth.

Tell ME something, why did the court find it JUST FINE to talk about Zimmerman's criminal justice interest but NOT FINE to talk about Trayvon's marijuana use and expulsion from school for probably sales of drugs? That okay with you?

Just keep hating, Ducky...but don't do it here.

AGAIN.....you apparently hear "Trayvon deserved it" and figure the people here mean because he's black. Well, I personally do NOT believe he deserved to die, I prefer he'd walked home instead, but if it was Zimmerman or Trayvon, based on THE EVIDENCE AND EYE WITNESSES, he deserved to die more than Zimmerman did.

People are blaming Zimmerman for keeping an eye on him. What the hell else does a neighborhood watchman do?

Grow up, Ducky...
It IS resolved. Our legal system has spoken. Considering how much they kept from the Defense lawyers, it's astonishing they won this case, by the way.
You want to change the system, stop your people hurting people "in the name of Trayvon" and do something to change things.
