Obama: "might have chose."
From a Harvard grad?
Funny video.
AOW: I caught that, too.
Archie was supposed to be a stereotype, but it turns out, he was closer to the truth than most people realized.
"might have chose"...Ya, I caught that, too....cracked me up.
Imagine if Bush had said that...? Remember the media even when he said the slightest slip?
Joe, that's what I found so astonishing. We all laughed back then, now we find what Archie feared 30 years ago is not quite so unimaginable.
OMG Z..perfect!!!
That was great! I loved the part about everyone carrying pistols on the plane! Works for me!
And "meat-head" yep, that about sums it up.
What do you have against welfare? Only on TV could someone ask that question.
I'm so glad the few of you watched this and SO disappointed more haven't. I know it takes time to stop by a blog to watch a video, but it's SO GOOD, isn't it? Absolutely hilarious!
Man, I thought we ALL need a break from the drudgery of leftwing dishonesty :-)
Archie was way ahead of his time. What we failed to consider...was how many "meatheads" we'd have to deal with today!
Meathead today...is still the juvenile delinquent, anarchist, silly, pot head, dope hippie that he was when he was on that show in "72.
He and Obamas militant friends still ( Ayers & Dohrn ) feel exactly the same as they did while the bombs were going off by the weather underground. Which I think is still in existence.
Good points, Imp.
BY the way, does anybody remember the Archie episode where they're robbed by young black guys while they're home? Meathead goes into a psychoanalysis to the guys about how they must have been born poor, didn't feel they had a future...he keeps giving excuses for the 2 guys as if poverty and disillusionment warrants crime..
one of the black guys says to the other "Well, LOOKY HERE.......I do believe we got ourselves a real genuIne LI-BE-RAAAAL....my goodness! Don't ya feel like a test tube experiment for this LI-BE-RAAAAL??" (he says to his cohort in crime)
Hilarious! It's the ONLY one which called liberals for what they are...in all the episodes insulting conservatives through making everybody think they're all like ARchie Bunker, those two black burglars were HILARIOUS!
I’m not addicted to television; never have been. I do remember the show. I believed in the 1970s (and even today) that Norman Lear designed All in the Family to illustrate his utter contempt for blue-collar conservative families. Let’s see, there is Archie the bigot, Edith the airhead, and Mike the intellectual. Given the program’s popularity, liberal bias backfired and everyone connected to the project made fortunes while remaining firmly invested in self-loathing socialist ideology.
I love that show. So politically incorrect...
Hollywood sure has changed for the worse that's for sure.
Can't have people "Pulling Their Weight". That would be considered racist.
Mustang, I still love the show though it REALLY bugs me because not only is the bleeding heart lib message there, but they never miss an opportunity to slam Conservatism and make it look stupid via Archie Bunker. The humor can't be beat, however! And yes, they all made gazillions and complain that the rich get rich. typical.
Silverfiddle....I see it less as politically correct than politically biased! :-)
Lisa...This show sort of started the previously unconscionable and unAmerican penchant for insulting half of the country's values.
It was VERY VERY clever, wasn't it....you'd be laughing and suddenly realize how hard they'd hit your faith or your politics. As if Archie Bunker was THE quintessential American Conservative. ridiculous
That's true Z it wouldn't be long and they already have.
when i was a kid, we'd go to my grandparents' house every sunday afternoon for dinner and then stay until after this show was over. we used to say that they modeled archie after my granddad because the things he'd say - albeit more simply said - were so much like what granddad would say.
thanks for bringing back a great memory, z. btw, i agree with everything you've said about the show and hollywood writers, etc.
AOW: Yeah, "might have chose", made me wince, too.
I know Lear intended him as a parody, but Archie Bunker's words ring so true today. Lear is still as big a liberal as he used to be.
BTW my niece, who is now in her mid-twenties, discovered "All in the Family" years ago and cried when Carroll O'Conner died in 2001. She loved Archie.
GREAT!!!
