IS THE POLITICAL TREND IN THE U.S. WORRISOME?

.....Not if you are a communist. If you aren’t, it should worry you.
There seems to be a feeling in America that Communism couldn’t happen in this country. When signs of it occur here and are commented on, those comments are ignored or downplayed with accusations of McCarthyism as if McCarthy was a not only a stain on our country’s past but had it all wrong. Except he didn’t.
The situation today in the U.S. and in Europe, as a matter of comparison:
Europe has been, for various reasons which shall have to wait for further analysis, more “socialistic” than the U.S. While Germany, for instance, had to come together to help its people get through the aftermath of WW II, it went too far along those lines, while the U.S. developed as a blessed beacon of capitalism, becoming the envy of the world. Socialism in Europe has gone so far today that is has become financially insupportable. While the European socialistic parties, like the SPD in Germany, officially haven’t seemed to understood that socialism is killing them financially, the people have understood, and the conservatives are suddenly getting more and more votes in Europe. Several countries can be named as examples, such as France, Denmark, Holland, Italy, Portugal, and yes, even the UK with their recent local elections. Part of this phenomenon can be attributed to Islam and the realization by the European public that the conservatives are tougher against it, but the European news is full of articles showing that the people themselves are fed up with economies squeezed dry by big social programs nobody seems to be benifiting from. Except, possibly, the illegal immigrants which are sweeping across Europe.

The countries named above, and others like Germany where, unfortunately, Angela Merkel is forced to work in a coalition with the socialists, are trying to undo or scale back the costly social programs because of one or both of the following reasons:
(1) They have an overall negative effect on the willingness of people to take responsibility for themselves, and
(2) They're now financially insupportable.
And what does the U.S. seem to be doing today? It’s starting to embrace concepts regarding healthcare and free school and all kinds of programs which fly in the face of the capitalism which has kept it great for over two centuries, destroying with an unprecedented pace the very foundation on which this country was built. Our geniuses in politics today, in their zest to stay at the forefront of the failing worldwide trend, recognize the sweetness and kindness of socialism, completely ignoring the fact that it hasn’t worked anywhere in the world, and are trying to best the Europeans by introducing communism into the motherland of capitalism.

How is this possible, you might ask? Well, it works with the help of the U.S. media. They don’t report the news anymore, they make biased, agenda-driven comments on it. And since they disdain conservative ideas, and hate George Bush and the Republicans, they are playing the fifth column for the Democrats in a transparent attempt to help them win the elections this November. The Germans have been begging their people to buy private health insurance, for example, since the Schroeder administration! But, has the media mentioned that here? No. As the mainstream media supports the leftist health care programs here, the last thing they'd want is an informed American public to see that the German health insurance they think is 'so wonderful and free' isn't!

The above graphic clarifies the situation. Many European countries have become more conservative. At the same time, the U.S. trend is going down, with a big difference obviously between McCain with his more middle of the road opinions, and Obama on the other end with ideas which can only be characterized as pure communism. His social programs and give-aways propagate exactly the same ideas as the openly communist party “Die Linke” (The Left) in Germany. But, in Germany, at least that party doesn’t make any bones of their communist orientation (while our left suddenly wants to stop being called liberal and prefers the term 'progressive' in an attempt to appear less left-leaning), and the German press is honest enough and smart enough to call it for what it is. Here, the U.S. media is conspicuously absent from that discussion. They wouldn't label a liberal platform communist because they can't bring themselves to realize the truth or their professors have convinced them that's not really so bad after all.
Big mistake. The country is at stake. The truth must come out.

The short answer is YES.

I think Europe's got a long way to go to be called conservative, but the trip for the US to be called "left" is just around the corner in November.

Anonymous said...

...only in the face of an increasing real external threat...

I think the trend is a refelection of a 'public perception' that we exist in a 'decreasingly' threatening world environment.

Anonymous said...

...and should that 'perception' ever change, the USA would make a quick course correction (provided we never reach the 'tipping point').

Interesting post. I agree with the trending of Europe to more conservative leaders is encouraging. Even Serbia can be included, even though the recent elections there were all but ignored in this country. And, if Obama is elected, he'll be far more left than many of the new leadership in Europe.

In my view, socialism isn’t about one-for-all, all-for-one in the tradition of the Three Musketeers; it is about politicians capitalizing on the amazingly inept concept that the wealthy should have to give up their hard-earned income in order to share it with people who are too stupid, or too lazy to work. Of course, this works out for the stupid and lazy because they will vote for liberal socialist politicians, and as long as they do that, politicians who are no more than opportunists of the first order, will continue passing liberal programs. You are absolutely correct to assume that sooner or later (and later seem to be the trend, here), the cornucopia of freebies will trigger an economic landslide greater than that of Krakatau.

However, I think it is also true that the United States’ population is not only increasing in numbers, it is also experiencing an exponential growth in ethnic groups. What illegal-Mexican (with brand-spanking-new amnesty, courtesy of Barbara Boxer) will reject more free programs? Isn’t that why they came here (illegally) to begin with? As our nation’s ethnic diversity increases, so too does the demand for services. God help us, what could we possibly do without extraordinarily costly educational programs that accomplish everything except educating our children? No, the most important thing is bi-lingual educational programs, free breakfast and lunch 12 months out of the year (school is only in session for 9 months, so go figger), and watered down standards so that even the dumbest hoodlum can have a high school diploma.

In this environment, politicians (which are bottom feeders on the ecological scale) will strive to accommodate the larger (mainstream) population. This means that they will move to the left when doing so is a guarantee of votes, and the shuffle to the right for the same reason. Now I think this has always been the case, even from our earliest post-colonial days. I can actually think of only two (2) presidents who represented the far left: Franklin Roosevelt (a near communist if ever there was one), and Jimmuh Carter. Barack Obama will be our third; he has already signaled his desire to ban SUVs, regulate home air conditioning thermostats, and limit the calorie intake of “overweight” Americans. It just doesn’t get any better than that, does it?

If Americans chose Obama, then let the record reflect that whatever happens after that is no one’s fault but the voters. On the other hand, McCain’s shift to the center is simply his effort to appeal to the greatest number of voters (from the right, and from the left of center). But I do absolutely agree that unless Americans begin developing some backbone, and until we start demanding better representation in the nation’s capital, we will be perpetually stuck with these two choices: bad, and worse. Who knows . . . after the worst has happened, future generations may even look back upon George Bush as one of our truly great presidents – and wouldn’t that be something?

Kennedy Diagnosed With Malignant Tumor

Dr. Fabio Roberti

Neurosurgeon, Professor of Neurosurgery, The George Washington University Hospital

Tuesday, May 20, 2008; 3:30 PM

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.), who was hospitalized in Boston Saturday after suffering a seizure, has a malignant brain tumor, according to a preliminary diagnosis released today by physicians at Massachusetts General Hospital.

A biopsy of a portion of Kennedy's brain identified a malignant glioma as the cause of the seizure, Lee Schwamm, the hospital's vice chairman of neurology, and Larry Ronan, Kennedy's primary care physician, said in a statement.

Dr. Fabio Roberti, a neurosurgeon and professor of neurosurgery at The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., was online Tuesday, May 20, at 3:30 p.m. ET to answer questions about this particular type of cancer and its treatment.

Seems to me that fj and Mustang's posts dovetail in that fj suggests we'd make a 'quick course correction' if Americans would ever wake up to the threat of terror on our shores. Mustang suggests we'll need Americans with more backbone.

My take? We don't have the backbone and we're not going to ever have it again. Check out kids today; tattoos, piercings, sex and drugs, no appreciation of what they have, no appreciation that schooling just might be better than counting on the gov't to hand you a living, etc etc......I know I generalize and am only talking about 70% of our kids, but that's big enough to be scary. (one of the reasons I adore that Matt Mulligan I spoke of in my last piece on the site who's joined the Marines is that he's NOT like these kids! His hero is his Dad.)

We need something BIG to turn this trend my husband's described in his article. He is European and he reads the European internet press every single morning. He knows what's going on there and he's very attune to what's happening here, too. It's very hard to be married to someone who lives here because he WANTS to, not that he was "just lucky enough to be born here" like most of us. I say it's hard because his disenchantment is tough to watch as he sees politicians moving us so far left and the name calling he sees, something that does not happen in the European media. They argue and fight but they would NEVER go to a high school and call a Chancellor or President "a liar" or anything like that, as Harry Reid does in schools, and others do, too.

We need people for our kids to ADMIRE, HEROES they can look up to; people who have great lives and great courage and kindness and goodness... not Brittney Spears and Paris Hilton and Justin Timberlake or any rap star. Our kids need to have people of solidity and good character to emulate! LIke fj and Mustang, actuallY!! (and many others of you, of course!)

YOu see that today? Ugh. Sorry to sound so negative, but .... that's Z's take on things here.

Speaking of the honesty and world coverage of the American press, has anybody heard that South Africa is falling apart, slowly, since mandella took over? I have seen things in the European press i have NEVER seen here! AWFUL..it's like Zimbabwe, honestly~!
Have you seen the Iranian students marching EVERY SINGLE WEEK like I saw on Paris TV news the last two years we lived in Paris? NO, gee, isn't that 'funny'?

Keep your eyes open and blame your media, folks. We hear NOTHING. And we should.

I am now going to jump off my soapbox, sorry to mix so many messages into one confusing post and SO sorry for my negativity.

Karen, thanks for getting Mr. Z's point...you are SO right. We will be as communist as their far left in Germany and France at least (which still has a Trotskyite party, did you know that? I lived there during the last election when Chirac got elected and it was so weird to hear TROTSKYITES becuase we never admit how communist some of OUR gruops are, they're just OUT THERE as if it's normal to follow Trotsky! and no, they did NOT do welll!!). I'm not as well versed on other European countries.

Re FT's posting about Ted Kennedy? Thanks for keeping us abreast of the news; I had just come home and hadn't heard this diagnosis yet.

There probably aren't too many people with more disdain for him than I have for him, on a million different levels, but I will delete any comments wishing him bad. I pray for him and his family that things go well.

I'm not going to read this over; if it makes any sense at all, hoorah!

THANKS for your terrific comments..Mr. Z appreciates it, too!

It has to do with the virtue of "temperance" and the means through which it is implanted in the soul.

Plato, "Charmides" It requires the encantation of certain "charms" and accompanied by a certain light "music of the night"... else the truth might immediately scare one away. After all, when you first peer into the abyss, you see only surface reflections. But one needs to peer deeper if one is to learn to know themself. But once they do, they can see that the abyss stares back at them... and this requires a lion (Plato's "Laches" aka on courage)

...and that is when the second metamorphosis occurs...

Nietzsche, "Zarathustra"

THREE metamorphoses of the spirit do I designate to you: how the spirit becometh a camel, the camel a lion, and the lion at last a child.
Many heavy things are there for the spirit, the strong load-bearing spirit in which reverence dwelleth: for the heavy and the heaviest longeth its strength.
What is heavy? so asketh the load-bearing spirit; then kneeleth it down like the camel, and wanteth to be well laden.
What is the heaviest thing, ye heroes? asketh the load-bearing spirit, that I may take it upon me and rejoice in my strength.
Is it not this: To humiliate oneself in order to mortify one's pride? To exhibit one's folly in order to mock at one's wisdom?
Or is it this: To desert our cause when it celebrateth its triumph? To ascend high mountains to tempt the tempter?
Or is it this: To feed on the acorns and grass of knowledge, and for the sake of truth to suffer hunger of soul?
Or is it this: To be sick and dismiss comforters, and make friends of the deaf, who never hear thy requests?
Or is it this: To go into foul water when it is the water of truth, and not disclaim cold frogs and hot toads?
Or is it this: To love those who despise us, and give one's hand to the phantom when it is going to frighten us?
All these heaviest things the load-bearing spirit taketh upon itself: and like the camel, which, when laden, hasteneth into the wilderness, so hasteneth the spirit into its wilderness.
But in the loneliest wilderness happeneth the second metamorphosis: here the spirit becometh a lion; freedom will it capture, and lordship in its own wilderness.
Its last Lord it here seeketh: hostile will it be to him, and to its last God; for victory will it struggle with the great dragon.
What is the great dragon which the spirit is no longer inclined to call Lord and God? "Thou-shalt," is the great dragon called. But the spirit of the lion saith, "I will."
"Thou-shalt," lieth in its path, sparkling with gold- a scale-covered beast; and on every scale glittereth golden, "Thou shalt!"
The values of a thousand years glitter on those scales, and thus speaketh the mightiest of all dragons: "All the values of things- glitter on me.
All values have already been created, and all created values- do I represent. Verily, there shall be no 'I will' any more. Thus speaketh the dragon.
My brethren, wherefore is there need of the lion in the spirit? Why sufficeth not the beast of burden, which renounceth and is reverent?
To create new values- that, even the lion cannot yet accomplish: but to create itself freedom for new creating- that can the might of the lion do.
To create itself freedom, and give a holy Nay even unto duty: for that, my brethren, there is need of the lion.
To assume the ride to new values- that is the most formidable assumption for a load-bearing and reverent spirit. Verily, unto such a spirit it is preying, and the work of a beast of prey.
As its holiest, it once loved "Thou-shalt": now is it forced to find illusion and arbitrariness even in the holiest things, that it may capture freedom from its love: the lion is needed for this capture.
But tell me, my brethren, what the child can do, which even the lion could not do? Why hath the preying lion still to become a child?
Innocence is the child, and forgetfulness, a new beginning, a game, a self-rolling wheel, a first movement, a holy Yea.
Aye, for the game of creating, my brethren, there is needed a holy Yea unto life: its own will, willeth now the spirit; his own world winneth the world's outcast.
Three metamorphoses of the spirit have I designated to you: how the spirit became a camel, the camel a lion, and the lion at last a child.-

Thus spake Zarathustra. And at that time he abode in the town which is called The Pied Cow.

Everything Mr. Z says is perfectly true, but who RECOGNIZES it?

I, myself, have seen this disaster coming for the last 45 years–––have in fact felt like a helpless victim tied to the railway tracks feeling the hum of and tremor of imminent death–––and have been unable to attract the attention of passersby who might rescue me and others who've seen the Truth and sounded the alarm.

Almost everyone I know says, "You're crazy. Things are not that bad. This is America."

Perhaps, but for nearly a hundred years "Cultural Marxism" implemented by "Critical Theory"–––the thinking that originated with Antonio Gramsci, the Italian intellectual demon, that was co-opted and expanded by George Lukacs, Theo Adorno, Herbert Marcuse and the other members of the Frankfurt School–––has worked insidiously to cast doubt in the minds of Americans about the value and integrity of their heritage. It has worked both by stealth and with all the subtlety of a battering ram to create confusion, exacerbate existing tensions, cause greater and greater division, foment a sense of helplessness, hopelessness and despair, and sell the notion that "The Rich" OWE the vast majority of "worker bees" a living simply because they EXIST.

Of course the great fallacy in Marxism is that it advocates the out-and-out MURDER of all the "GEESE" that have for centuries laid the "GOLDEN EGGS" that enable Civilization to grow and prosper.

It also advocated The Death of God. As you might remember, we were told–––by Ivy League academic THEOLOGIANS yet–––that GOD IS DEAD. They said that as though it were somehow OFFICIAL.

Well, of course, those of us who were well brought up, decently educated and intellectually curious knew very well that GOD is ETERNAL TRUTH and LOVE–––the only CONSTANT–––and that those who would obliterate Him from our consciousness are doomed to failure. WE will die long before God, who by His very nature CANNOT die, and so will all of His presumptuous detractors.

Nevertheless, mischiefmakers–––especially those of the demonically clever variety, who can by virtue of their guile, fast talk and incredible perseverance, make honest men believe that bad is good, black is white and up is down–––can do a great deal of damage as we now furiously lament.

Seductive liars and deceivers who seek power for themselves by pandering to the basest instincts of The Common Man, have been setting back TRUE PROGRESS–––i.e. the search to learn how to recognize, know and achieve ultimate unity with the Holy Spirit–––since the Beginning of Time.

The Serpent in the Garden of Eden was in a very real sense The First Marxist.

Speaking as a much-maligned "Brit", whatever you do, (and for God sake) don't let Obama win in November!!

This corporate Socialism that has swept across Europe over the last ten years, is equivalent to some sort of malignant growth. It's a cancer within, which seeks to destroy the very foundations of Society, to the point where people either don't care, or are afraid to speak out anymore.
To all intent and purpose, (Karl) Marxism’s returned, and with its politically correct cohort, it's more spiteful than ever.
In the last few months, the U.K. has finally woken up to smell the coffee. - But alas I fear it's too little, and too late, as our treacherous leaders have signed us up to the (Soviet in style) E.U. super state, that we detest with an overwhelming passion.

Were Gordon Brown and his "enemies of the people", aware of our strength of feeling on this issue? Well of course....

Which brings me to the point of the "English".

I'm sure you’re aware that the U.K. is made up of four different Countries.

They being: England - Scotland - Wales - and Northern Ireland.

Now if England, (by far the most densely populated of the four Nations), had existed as a democracy in it's own right, then England would have remained largely Tory/Republican over the preceding years since world war two.
The English are rabid Nationalists, well in line with their American cousins, yet because of an alignment with Ireland, Scotland and Wales, we have witnessed many a left wing government, for the simple fact that both Scotland and Wales vote almost exclusively for the Socialists.

Politically correct mandates attempted to remove the English of their "cross of St George flag" from our own landscape, as a concerted attempt to wean us around to becoming "good Europeans" - but it didn't work. As we have no interest in Europe now, or any time in the foreseeable future.

Gordon Brown and his party of Comrades have attempted a wide scale, and unfettered immigration to our shores in an outright attempt to kill off English Nationalism from within.... Once again it didn't work.

So finally, he admitted defeat and signed us up, lock, stock and barrel, to his beloved E.U. masters in Brussels, reneging on his promise to let "The people decide".....

He, and his Socialist “Junta” are now despised in England, and if we had the luxury of a vote in November, it would result in a virtual rout of both he, and his despicable Socialist cohorts.

I don't know if you’re aware of the geographic of the new E.U. regions, - when in 2010, - this corrupt, E.U. regime is finally implemented. - But England doesn't exist anymore!!! - It's been split into three! - the only way it seems, to rid England, and English Nationalism from the European consciousness was to humanely destroy it.

I read that the U.S. - Canada - and Mexico, are in line for similar "ethnic cleansing" if the corporate Socialists get their way in North America.

This is just a form of serfdom for the twenty first Century - Don't let it happen! - Obama needs to be stopped now - For the future sake of your Nation...

Theres nothing out there in this world for free! - Stupidity (as I can see for myself) comes at a very costly price.

Mr.Z sees clearly all right.
Having lived in England four years it sure opened my eyes to the joys of socialism.

Well, all I can now is if these people can start changing, then surely if need be, America can change.

That IS one difference between us and the old countries, when we want to do something , we tend to just go do it.

Are there worrisome things going on ?
Gosh yes, like today's ruling that paper money discriminates against blind people.

What HAS that got to do with the price of gas in America???

Well, I for one will keep on believing in what I know is right.
People can change, but the fact is, greed is such a strong force in humans, and it is certainly being exploited well by the left.

By the way, read on Newsbusters that when Saint Obama had his Oregon Rally, the one like the sermon on the mount...it was preceeded by a live..FREE concert.

BRAVO, Mr. Brit! But how do you suggest we "stop" Obama–––with a bullet?

I frankly doubt if anything else would work, and there are hundreds more like him–––and worse–––from our Phewniversities.

"Tis a pit Kharma can be so unkind, but the reason Scotland, Wales and Ireland–––especially the last–––support socialism is for the same reason ANYONE supports it–––sheer SPITE.

They have never forgotten or forgiven how cruelly they were conquered, abused and overridden by England not too long ago.

The sins of the fathers–––Alack and Alas!–––are visited upon the sons for countless generations. (A misquote I know but true nonetheless.)

The calumny of "colonies" is at least understandable, but the treachery of NATIVE SONS and DAUGHTERS, who revile, then willfully destroy their heritage is beyond my feeble powers of comprehension.

WVdottr, you are generally right in everything you post, but, as a longtime friend of The Blind, I have to say that our paper money does, indeed, discriminate against them.

If you stop to think about it, there is no way a blind person can tell if he's getting correct change when he hands over a twenty or a fifty-dollar bill.

The blind do not live in isolation. Many have responsible jobs, live independently and commute to and from work like anyone else in challenging places like New York City.

I am amazed that no one ever thought before that each bill's denomination could very easily be inscribed in Braille at each corner of the note.

This would not deface the currency and would be a great help to many deserving people.

Blindness is a profound handicap. Why should we not do everything possible to help these people?

I'm only sorry that no one thought of it before now.

We've (Gen X) had the lies of the media jammed down our throats, coupled with political correctness, for which we were not prepared. However, the next generation IS. Hi All,
The American people have never been that anxious to fight. Only one third of the populace in the American colonies, supported the American Revolution, but, we fought and we won.

What we had then that we do not seem to have now, were politicians who were patriots. They were men of vision, and were leaders.

I'm sure we have some today who are patriots. I'd appreciate it if those people would come to the front of the line!

Before we entered WWII, America was fairly isolationist. However we fought and we won.

We have to hope that in the next few years a leader will emerge. A great leader can bring the people around, and rouse them from their apathy.

The biggest problem we have here in The U.S. is the left. They are powerful and determined. They come at us from all sides.

Energy dependence, which they keep in place through environmental activism.

"Climate change", which will be the vehicle to redistribute the wealth of the West, "to save the planet". A scheme of major proportions which will regulate, oppress, and dilute and negate our freedoms little by little.

Inferior educaton and indoctrination of the youth. This makes the population more malleable and dependent.

On top of all this we have the Islamists who seek world dominion, destruction of the West as we know it. Right now it seems there is a loose alliance between them and the left.

How do we fight all this? Maybe I'm wrong. I hope I am.

Convince me I'm just plain wrong and paranoid, and I'll love you forever!

It would take one HECK of a man to bring us together, wouldn't it? And, of course, if he's not a leftist so the media won't destroy him, it won't happen.
Still, you never know.

Re: Climate CHange (remember it was global WARMING until they figured out it might get COLDER and they changed it to CHANGE? Come to think of it, maybe Obama coined the new term!?)

Anyway..re THAT, I heard today that 32,000 scientists with fantastic pedigrees have signed a petition saying global CHANGE is NOT caused by human beings. Yup. Had to hear that on a Conservative talk show. Has anybody heard that on CNN or MSNBC?

Pris is right about the American Revolution, all right.

A lot of people just sat on their rear ends , whining bout the price of tea and so forth, I am sure.

Communism, yes, it IS real and It DOES exist.

I know the left has worked hard at disguising it and packaging it to insert into this country. It has been ridiculed and commented on .

I liken the so called "myth" of communism these days as the myth of vampires, in that communism has been assigned this role of being a ridulous folk tale that was created to fuel the big bad military machine.

I too though think there will come generations that change this liberal way of looking at things, it has to happen.

It is a natural order , perhaps .

But, when I have spoken with people far older than I , many times I am told that this is what happens, there are trends and circles and cycles.

I do not want to see 9-11 part 2, but it could happen, could happen on a worse scale than anything I can imagine.

beamish; they're saying now that the Dems are WAY ahead for congress positions in November. Do you think we could vote mcCain in even while the House and Senate are even more highly with Dems???

The fastest path to getting Congress back under Republican control would be to elect Hillary Clinton to a third co-Presidential term.

Look what she did for the GOP in 1994.

Nonetheless, by the numbers, roughly a third of Hillary supporters are going to vote for McCain if Obama gets the nomination, and roughly half of Obama's supporters are going to vote for McCain if Hillary gets the nomination.

In either case, McCain wins in November by a 16 to 25% margin. And those "disgruntled" Democrats might even flip Congress back in 2010.

What?

There is only one path... and it lay forward, Orpheus. Look behind, and that which you desire will vanish. The Meneads await us.

Euripides, The Bacchae

Oh, bless'd he in all wise,
Who hath drunk the Living Fountain,
Whose life no folly staineth,
And his soul is near to God;
Whose sins are lifted, pall-wise,
As he worships on the Mountain,
And where Cybele ordaineth,
Our Mother, he has trod:

His head with ivy laden
And his thyrsus tossing high,
For our God he lifts his cry;
"Up, O Bacchae, wife and maiden,
Come, O ye Bacchae, come;
Oh, bring the Joy-bestower,
God-seed of God the Sower,
Bring Bromios in his power
From Phrygia's mountain dome;
To street and town and tower,
Oh, bring ye Bromios home."

Whom erst in anguish lying
For an unborn life's desire,
As a dead thing in the Thunder
His mother cast to earth;
For her heart was dying, dying,
In the white heart of the fire;
Till Zeus, the Lord of Wonder,
Devised new lairs of birth;

Yea, his own flesh tore to hide him,
And with clasps of bitter gold
Did a secret son enfold,
And the Queen knew not beside him;
Till the perfect hour was there;
Then a horn'd God was found,
And a God of serpents crowned;
And for that are serpents wound
In the wands his maidens bear,
And the songs of serpents sound
In the mazes of their hair.

Deny the Meneads, and they will tear you to shreds.

Euripides...

Then, "Hither," cried Agave; "stand we round
And grip the stem, my Wild Ones, till we take
This climbing cat-o'-the-mount! He shall not make
A tale of God's high dances!" Out then shone
Arm upon arm, past count, and closed upon
The pine, and gripped; and the ground gave, and down
It reeled. And that high sitter from the crown
Of the green pine-top, with a shrieking cry
Fell, as his mind grew clear, and there hard by
Was horror visible. 'Twas his mother stood
O'er him, first priestess of those rites of blood.
He tore the coif, and from his head away
Flung it, that she might know him, and not slay
To her own misery. He touched the wild
Cheek, crying: "Mother, it is I, thy child,
Thy Pentheus, born thee in Echion's hall!
Have mercy, Mother! Let it not befall
Through sin of mine, that thou shouldst slay thy son!"

But she, with lips a-foam and eyes that run
Like leaping fire, with thoughts that ne'er should be
On earth, possessed by Bacchios utterly,
Stays not nor hears. Round his left arm she put
Both hands, set hard against his side her foot,
Drew ... and the shoulder severed!--not by might
Of arm, but easily, as the God made light
Her hand's essay. And at the other side
Was Ino rending; and the torn flesh cried,
And on Autono' pressed, and all the crowd
Of ravening arms. 'Yea, all the air was loud
With groans that faded into sobbing breath,
Dim shrieks, and joy, and triumph-cries of death.
And here was borne a severed arm, and there
A hunter's booted foot; white bones lay bare
With rending; and swift hands ensanguin'd
Tossed as in sport the flesh of Pentheus dead.

His body lies afar. The precipice
Hath part, and parts in many an interstice
Lurk of the tangled woodland--no light quest
To find. And, ah, the head! Of all the rest,
His mother hath it, pierced upon a wand,
As one might pierce a lion's, and through the land,
Leaving her sisters in their dancing place,
Bears it on high! Yea, to these walls her face
Was set, exulting in her deed of blood,
Calling upon her Bromios, her God,
Her Comrade, Fellow-Render of the Prey,
Her All-Victorious, to whom this day
She bears in triumph ... her own broken heart.

For me, after that sight, I will depart
Before Agave comes.--Oh, to fulfil
God's laws, and have no thought beyond His will,
Is man's best treasure. Aye, and wisdom true,
Methinks, for things of dust to cleave unto!

FJ: 'Then, "Hither," cried Agave; "stand we round...'

Firstly, I thought it said 'Then, "Hitler," cried Agave...' !!! But, I was PRETTY sure that wasn't right!

Per a French friend, who happens to be a conservative and adores the U.S., the French people are sick and tired of all their taxes going to pay for all the "immigrant" hand outs.

Z said...

Incognito, it is ABOUT TIME the French people woke up. But, they have something like 7 million muslims there and most don't work. And many set fires to cars. It only takes ONE lousy jerk to blow up the Metro system, which would kill thousands and paralyze France. THAT, in my humble opinion, is why France has acquiesced to the muslims. Who KNOWS what threats Paris, London, NYC, etc. are probably getting?

COULD those threats cause the West to succomb from fear?
SURE< if the left gets in power.

I think we're already headed that way... and I fear it might be too late for Europe and places like Canada.

Mr. Z,

Great post!!

I hate to break up the flowing prose and lofty poetry, but back to practical reality.

I started fighting communism in the late 50s and let me say -- Communism was never "dead" it only hid under "Progressive," "Democrat," Environmentalism, Greenies, Liberal, etc. They reproduce under hundreds of innocuous sounding names.

As has been said, Americans don't have the backbone to resist Liberalism, much less the march of today's Communism.

Look at Congressman Maxine Waters at the hearing on oil.. She inadvertently divulged the intent of the entire left when she said "This Liberal would socialize...(Oops..she caught herself) and said) .. all of your businesses."

That is the goal of the left... and her compatriots in Congress just laughed at her. They should have pounced on those statements and drummed her out of Congress... but they laughed.

We are in a heap 'o trouble this election year.

Pray for our Republic!

In Christ eternally,

Wouldn't disagree with a thing you said, Jack. I've said it all myself thousands of times over a long period of years.

However, there's no need to dismiss fine poetry, historically significant philosophy and elegant prose as irrelevant to "practical reality."

Most of the time, if rightly understood, there is more truth IN poetry, literature, great music, art and scientific research and discovery than there is pedestrian prose.

Einstein said, "Imagination is more important than knowledge." So, I might add is intuition.

There are all kinds of people in this word, because we all need each other. No one is expendable.

But, as Thornton Wilder said in Our Town, "The saints and poets" are the only ones who have an inkling of the wonder and true significance of ordinary every day life on earth.

FreeThinke,

I meant no adverse no reflection on poets or artists.. I have a degree in Fine Arts, was an abstract artist (painter) and have written poetry -- both done rather poorly.

I was simply apologizing for breaking the spell brought on by the eloquent poetry and prose.

Now, to continue my "pedestrian" prose. ;-)

I am simply one of those "Saints" (Believer in Jesus Christ) referenced by Wilder (though probably in a different, non-Biblical context than the meaning written by him).

Thanks for the thoughts,

In Christ eternally,
