Just a couple of shots taken from a particularly decorative neighborhood in Santa Monica! This one was a tad more tasteful...then we have........
THIS one, which has EVERYTHING! Reindeer, candy canes, stars, wreaths... even a Nativity Scene. WAIT, is that LEGAL? Isn't that offending the neighbors!? (Smile....but it IS in the People's Republic of Santa Monica!!)
These shots were taken by Ms Z
Will have a hard hitting political blog piece here in a few hours! Come back! Just wanted to show some California Christmas spirit to my blog buddies who asked ..ENJOY!

Reindeer, don't they stay in mangers, too.
Thank you -Z- Isn't it great that we can still place the Nativity upon our own property...
Let's keep it that way :-)
Freedom!!!
I hope those are led lights. lol
Great pictures.
This is more tasteful than usual?
Hey there, friend!!!
beautiful, z. now about that hard-hitting political - well whatever it was you said...
Z, Great shots. Next year I think we should have a competition for tackiest most over blown Christmas decorator. The award could be called "The Griswold". (somebody is probably already doing it)
I feel certain that I could come up with an entry that includes not only the eeevilll nativity scene, but a nativity scene attended by Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman; and all illuminated by thousands of blinking lights. This IS the deep south we're taliking about here. ; )
Great shots, Z!
You mean that second one is a private dwelling? Wow!!
Reminds me of a small town not too far from here in NC, MaAdenville. They put on a doozy of a light-show every CHRISTmas, evert home in the town is dressed up about like that 2nd one! People drive from miles around just to see 'em! Reminds me that Jesus Is the Light that outshines 'em all!
I.H.S....that's right; they were CAMELS, weren't they !LOL! Didn't one of the Wise Men have a shiney red nose...naaa!
Glad you all enjoyed the pix.
David..they're both residences!
Larry, welcome to Geeeez...I think a tackiest decoration award would be fun next year.
I'm glad the electric bill won't be coming here!
Oh I like BOTH pictures. We have very similar displays here in Florida. Some are more tasteful than others, but all show a love for the Season and an outpouring of joy in the moment and hope for the future.
The next thing you know some dollar-hungry entrepreneur will put the Nativity figures on a Merry-Go-Round with Baby Jesus spotlighted at the center while all the familiar carols beep continuously in jig time from a synthesizer amid synthetically produced aromas of Frankincense and Myrrh sprayed into the air at regular intervals.
As the carousel whirls, the lights outlining its pseudo-Rococo framework will change from red, to green to gold, to blue and flash as they go --- and the crowns on the Three Kings will BLINK at us in time to the carols.
Don't laugh --- it COULD happen. The moment someone hears of it, they'll probably want to DO it.
Would it be blasphemous or merely in bad taste? --- Or could it just be someone's naive-but-sincere idea of a proper Christmas celebration?
Should taste ever be considered an important part of reverence?
YOO BEE DA JUDGE! ;-)
I'm sure I already told you once that some parishioners just could NOT understand why I was unwilling to play Jingle Bells, Sleigh Ride and Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer during the Christmas Eve service. HONEST!
Whatchagonnadoo with folks like that? Can't hang 'em.
