An "Open" private letter to his daughters? WHY?

Maybe
THIS kind of thing is why I don't really trust the man.
An "OPEN" letter to his daughters? Why not write them a lovely letter and let them hold it privately, close to their hearts, and then give a speech with the things you want US to know?

"When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me -- about how I'd make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want. But then the two of you came into my world," Obama said..... Z: So sweet and so personal...yet so public.

He would strive to send young Americans to war "only for a very good reason", trying first to settle differences with other nations peacefully. Z: We get it, Mr. Obama. We get it.

Maybe it's just me, but I think those daughters (Malia, the eldest, is so lovely) will be needing even more privacy now that they'll be in the White House. Mr. Obama, write them them a letter. Don't make an OPEN one for us to peek into. You can get your points across in speeches or articles....You've criticized the war before, we can take it.

You mean it isn't all about him? He with his own insignia, needing throngs of worshippers everywhere he goes?

I'm sure he loves his daughters, but.....

Boy, you could have fooled me!

When you hear someone volunteer that "it's not about me", or some variation on that theme, you can COUNT ON the fact that it's all about me! Z I saw the headline on Comcast News and was diapointed. Not 4 more years of the Clintons. Ughh.

Actually, I think it's a great letter. Had the author been white, the author would have been soundly ridiculed around the world. But since the author was black, it forever puts the lie to any accusation that "institutional" racism prevents ANYONE in this country from catching an even break.

From here on out, there are NO EXCUSES for not succeeding. Whitey ain't keepin' no one down.

Yep: blame America FIRST, apologize profusely and shackle the most dynamic economy in the history of the world with the tired, freedom crushing tenets of socialism (via bailouts, alarmism, etc, ad nauseum).

That ought to smooth over the "differences.

Larry, that's what got me the most. If you're going to slam the war, be a man and say it in a speech, don't put it in a letter to your small daughters. "Gee, look Sasha. Daddy's not for the war!" "I'm 7, what war?"

Yes, it IS about HIM, Pris and Morgan...ALL about him.

Average..it'll be a tough four years.
But, thank goodness, it'll probably only be four. He's set himself for such high expectation, Mustang just might be right and people MIGHT flock back to conservatism.

FJ...good point. But, he'll find a way to blame us, anyway...it'll always be our fault. I wonder how long into his reign that he'll be talking about race.

Is there nothing you won't criticize or second guess?

Gonna be a long eight years, z.

Ducky, tell me why you think he felt the need to share a letter to his daughters with the public.

And was there ever ANYTHING you or every American newspaper didn't slam about Bush? (Oh, I know, you'll tell me that's a 'strawman'!! it doesn't work both ways, does it!)

And, TRUST ME, I get ZERO pleasure of having a president with this bad character...nor do I get pleasure in criticizing an American, my, president.

His four year administration will only FEEL like eight, Ducky.

Z...my sentiments exactly! I wasn't going to say anything but ... "if it looks like a kitten and it feels like a kitten and even purrs like a kitten.... then, it's probably a KITTEN!!" ie.. yes, it IS all about him and Mr Obama would you please get onto to something meaningful and important for the sake of this struggling nation!

hey guys and gals... former Senate Majority leader and missionary medical doctor Bill Frist has written a well deserved tribute to Bush 43 here, at all places, CNN
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/01/15/frist.bush/index.html (albeit with a blunt disclaimer at the bottom)

it's about the committment he made to many of the world's sick and dying (not just AIDS)... anyway, its a good read.

Sorry, try as I may, I just can't bring myself to dislike the man!

Y'all take care, Rick

Hi Z
This is exactly what I thought!
What did he do....send it to all the newspapers and then tell his daughters?

Frasypoo said...

Also true that his daughters will be in the public eye so much that he needs to try to shield them as much as he can.
they are literally going to grow up before our eyes

Well Ducky as they say, "what goes around comes around".

You should have thought of that the previous eight years. Any criticism of Obama is, for the most part, genuine for most of us.

Any pretense of restraint is done out of repect for the office the President holds, something the left can't relate to.

Compared to the vitriol Bush had to endure, the criticism of Obama coming from conservatives is indeed, restrained. So far!

You should be grateful. After all when an elected official needs to be celebrated at a cost of $110,000,000, during a recession such as we're experiencing, does he not deserve criticism, or does he deserve a pass simply because he's a Democrat?

Obama's reached the heights he wanted, and it's still not enough. Maybe we should call him "Your Highness?"

I'm just amazed at this. What's next a private love letter to Michelle?

I just think he could have said in a speach that this is some of the things I shared with my daughters without going into the details of the letter.

FJ, I don't think it has anything to do with color, and if it did then historically in the black community of which I'm a life long member, we don't tell publickly what we have said or done privately. So' if there should be any ridiculing it most certainly will come from our community; well at least those in my grndmother's generation.

Keep it humble Mr. Obama, keep it humble.

Blessings

I.H.S....
I don't think he is an example of the kind of people in the Black community with great dignity and respect for privacy and the lives of others. And I'll never believe that isn't a very large part of that community.
His not being this type of man could be a function of his age...people of all colors are forgetting the dignity and respect our parents and grandparents had, aren't they. Or it's a function of his personality;

I think the man is definitely a self-aggrandizer and we're even hearing he's hired someone to "manage his brand". If someone has solid info on that, I'd like to have it. thanks.

This man is egocentric...no doubt about it. Black or White, it stinks.

I'll be praying for him to start exhibiting humility and dignity. When he flipped Hillary and McCain off on two separate campaign stops, I pretty much gave up on seeing that in him. And I grieve for America.

I.H.S...what're your thoughts about THE ONE's decision to use the Abraham Lincoln bible for his swearing in?

I.H.S. said...

Z, honestly I haven't even attempted to give much thought to it, because I personnally feel it's just another stunt of some type whether he thought of it or his "handlers" thought of it; I'm not sure but I guess it's suppose to say to the people of America that Abrahams "freeing of the slaves" has now culminated with the election of a black man.

Or, maybe this is his way of showing conservative America that he will be moving toward the Republican ideology.

Or, maybe he just didn't have his own Bible and Abraham Lincolns was the closest thing to him at the time.

The more I try to say that maybe he will be alright the more crazy stunts like the letter and the bible thing comes up.

I'm just going to pray, that's it.

Blessings.

I just think it's quite nasty to use one's children to get the point across. Sugar coat it and make it all fuzzy and sentimental. Hide your anti-war message somewhere in there.
Just nasty.

This reminds me of the prayer in the Wailing Wall.

I.H.S...you say "The more I try to say that maybe he will be alright the more crazy stunts like the letter and the bible thing comes up.

I'm just going to pray, that's it."

I can't tell you how many times I've thought the very same thing. "He'll be better than I think....I just know he will" and then he does something SO difficult for me to accept that I go back to knowing prayer's all we've got.

God help us all.

Pinky....you nailed it. Of course.

Brooke...you said it's like the Wailing Wall...Ducky disagrees. See? He doesn't know the facts; it was well proven that Obama DID release his private prayer to God. Imagine the character?

OH, I have to stop thinking like this...I just have to hope we're all so terribly wrong about him. I wish.

The easiest thing for me is to be honest. So... I rememeber being outraged when I read in Reader's Digest a few years ago 'private'
letters from Jacqueline Kennedy to her children, John,jr. and Caroline. I kept thinking, why am I reading these 'private' letters.
Same thing here.

Z said...

Thanks, Sue. Me, too, on the Kennedy stuff.
I just don't understand why this was done.

Incognito said...

That's truly cheezy.. I have also, like many of you, been telling myself maybe he'll be better than anticipated and that I hope I can eat my words... but time will tell.

I too will pray, because you never know.

Out where i'm holidaying, the news about Obama is that they're close to choosing the first dog. It's amazing how superficial and stupid people can be.

Now a letter to his kids. Is this seriously on the priority list!

I wonder how long the planet will take to descend from the clouds of Obama. I doubt we'll learn from it once that happens though.

It's another of his publicity stunts and a way to burnish his image.

Barack Obama is about to become the "father" of his country. We are all, white, black, brown and yellow his "sons and daughters" now. It was a letter to all of us.

And if the black community isn't ridiculing this letter, I suppose that means there's something "serious" to it.

So I hope they take this letter to heart, and attribute a lot of the bad faith concerning the "fairness" of our political system to the past and take it to heart that their country deserves a fresh start. Because we're all in this thing called 'America' together, and the constant impugning of motives and inter-racial bickering has got to stop.
