Dear God,
Be with us and our great country on this Inauguration Day of Barack Hussein Obama. Keep our country safe, keep all Americans safe. Keep him and his family safe.
I ask that our new president will put our country first in everything. Remind him of our history. Help him to understand that not everyone agrees with him on every issue and put it in his heart to consider their ideas and to at least honor them.
I pray that his Christian faith grows as he sees the terrible daily threats to this country Mr. Bush mentioned at his last speech. I pray that facts start to overtake his agenda and he sees the vital need to listen and give honest and real thought to all sides before he makes decisions. Help him pick Godly people from whom to seek counsel. Enable him to be truthful, to display dignity, to show respect for his office as he represents us around the world.
Mature this man, Lord, and teach him to lead this country in the ways that you desire. We know you love America, we know this great experiment was your idea. Please forgive our having turned from you in so many ways. Help this president to realize that it's only been through our departure from putting you first that this country has found itself in the disarray it's in and give him ways to remind us that America was a country of self-reliant, proud, hard working, honest people who don't want to depend on government but on you. Remind us how much better life always was when America put God first, regardless of the fact that we haven't always done right in some areas. We atone and ask that you help us.
On this day, particularly, I pray that you bless President and Mrs. Bush and show them in countless ways the gratitude most of us feel for the job he did in keeping us safe. Help them to feel our gratitude that they were always respectful of all of us on both sides of the political aisle, our soldiers, other world leaders, etc. Their stalwart and optimistic behavior, dignity and grace helped us through a terrible time.
May our enemies continue to be unsuccessful during this new presidency. And, if we are faced with the unimaginably difficult times some of us fear, give him the great strength and sudden and perfect abilities which will allow him to put us first in all ways and see this great country through it. Give him the tools, God, he's going to need them.
"But whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm." Proverbs 1:33

I give my Amen to your prayer.
I have faith that we will get both what we deserve and what the Lord's will has in store for us.
But I pray that it won't be as bad as we fear it will be.
Greywolfe, nice to have you here!
Thanks for praying with me. We all need to, don't we.
Your second paragraph is profound...and yes, pray it won't be AS BAD as we fear it will be. thanks.
I have faith it will not be as bad as we might fear.
But most of all, I want my country to stay safe.
However, the very people who are up on the hill are the very same ones who helped bring about some of the very bad attacks we have had occur on our soil.

at first, I thought "whoa," but after reading what a thoughtful prayer and time to reflect.
Amen, but alas, I am going to host a power outage of our network at work here today, matter of fact in exactly ten minutes.
Z, I am adding you to my blog list. Help me out too.
Oh, please contact me bassizzzt@yahoo.com, I need to ask you something about my blog (access).
Okay, Steve, because I haven't been able to access in a long while!
Your remark touched me very deeply.."Whoa...and then this pray ain't a bad idea"..thanks Steve.
I didn't think I'd cry but I am now...I feel so less safe and just have to go to a meeting and NOT THINK ABOUT THIS. I feel VERY overcome.
Later, pals.
This prayer is lightyears better and more appropriate than the Warren one - he just turned out to bow to the Obamania, they could also have taken Wright, would not have made a difference. If this is any indication of what will follow - help us, GOD, to get out of this nightmare.
Mr.Z
Amen Z,
I'm a firm believer that when the people of God pray He answers, and though the answer may not be what we thought it should have been He gives this thing called peace to accept what His Will is for His people.
We as believers are to always look to the Lord not for ourselves only, but those that God has placed in authority; this is so we live a qiet and a peaceable life.
I echo your words with all that the zeal I can muster, because the truth is, we are in what the Bible describes as "perilous times", but with prayer we can yet walk around in 'the peace of God that passes all understanding'.
Great prayer, Blessings.
"It's the end of the world as we know it,
It's the end of the world as we know it,
It's the end of the world as we know it,
and I feel fine."
Nicely done Z. Christ's sacrifice transcends any and all political ideology. God loves us all...even the ones who don't necessarily love Him.
We'll be okay. President Obama seems like a smart enough man to know he must govern from the center. i think we've seen evidence of this already.
Beautifully written Z. Michael Newdow is already at work preparing his lawsuit against you. You might want to contact Mustang's lawyer buddy. I hear he's pretty good.
My only prayer is that I am completely wrong concerning all things NObama. I had considered praying for the Duckster's transformation into a conservative, but I realized that maybe even God would be stumped with that request.
Good song, Ducky! But I am surprised you're mentioning that at such a time when the great annointed one is now in power.
Everyone needs go go over to Misfit's blog; still laffing over his latest post about the donkey!
Amen. I did not watch the coverage as I only get CNN in Espanol and hate the bias.
This prayer has given me a voice I was lacking today. I hope you do not mind that I have cross posted it.
I passed on the prayer to some people here and they found it very inspiring.
Thanks Z.
Steve, I'm sorry but the right is often sarcasm impaired and sarcasm is often all we have.
It's difficult when you have a group of people who's primary concern is the apocalypse and the destruction of the earth.
One one hand you want to be respectful but on the other your jaw just drops at the hubris of their belief in exceptionalism.
Good post Z.
I have to wonder if we need to be more concerned about Congress than Obama. He has actually sounded more rational than Pelosi.
Maybe I just don't know his modes very well, but Obama looked decidedly uncomfortable for much of the inauguration, all the time he seemed to be trying to hold a serious dignified pose and look. Seemed awfully contrived. He's only comfortable-looking when he smiles. I had the impression he was trying to look messiahlike.

As for Ducky's chant, I suppose that's the way the majority at the inaugural spectacle today felt -- celebrating the end of something they unfortunately never had a clue about, feeling fine about it as they usher in the brave new world that's far far away from the original inspiration of America. I wonder how many of them will wake up before Obama's out of office.
Everyone; I'm very gratified that this prayer is acceptable to you all. I struggled longer than I do with most blog posts, which I never struggle with, they write themselves! When I've got something to say..LOOK OUT!!!.....BUT...I wrote this days ago and added and subtracted until I hoped it was what I wanted to say AND others would not find in it anything offensive for any reason and in any way.
You can't imagine how much it means to me to hear that you've found it acceptable. Thanks very, very much.
Ducky, you keep forgetting mine is not an apocalyptic blog and I believe we're to be good stewards HERE AND NOW. You can spew your ridiculous "Christians want the world to end now" stuff elsewhere. Thanks. Please STOP mischaracterizing the opinions here and making ugly remarks in reaction.
Duck
as always, you know how to reach me, bassizzzt@yahoo.com so we can duke it out there, shippy.
Z,
Your prayer touched at least six people here where I am today, so good work.
Steve, THANK YOU.
Did you get my email in response to your request, by the way? xxx
AMEN.
For the sake of this country I pray that Obama can air out his dirty laundry, keep us safe, and not do anything stupid.
I wish people would give more credit to Bush for the job he's done.
Z, I left you a response on my site
Goddessdivine, FOX is now showing the speech Bush is giving upon having just landed in TX for the first time as a citizen in 8 years.
you'd THINK our media/country would be grateful enough to show it on all channels, wouldn't you? Just a few minutes of a speech?
But, of course, our new pres couldn't even delay a dinner out and had to tell the world he thought so little of Mr Bush's last speech to our country that he was going out instead. I hope the office of the presidency, OUR presidency, doesn't suffer too much.
That was a wonderful prayer. I believe Obama is walking on air at this moment. I also believe it will all come crashing into him tomorrow morning when he wakes up. I suspect he is capably overwhelmed.
Ducky: I love sarcasm. And REM. Not necessarily in that order.
BZ
Amen, Z, Amen!
Nice sentiments, but I fear that Ducky and Obama will not recognize this as a "prayer". There was not one "G-- D--- America" to be found in it!
A good prayer, Z.
It will be a constant challenge for me to remain humble and prayerful for a while to come.
amen, indeed.
