Character counts......or did?

Yes, CHARACTER COUNTS. Please see Law and Order's newest blog piece "America?" THAT is good character personified.

NEW
PREAMBLE TO THE CONSTITUTION

"We the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid more riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior, and secure the blessings of debt-free liberty to ourselves and our great-great-great-grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt ridden, delusional, and others, We hold these truths to be self evident: that a whole lot of people are confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim they require a Bill of NON-Rights."

ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV, or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.

ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc; but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be.

ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful; do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy.

ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes .

ARTICLE V: You do not have the right to free health care . That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in public health care.

ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair..

ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat, or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a life of leisure.

ARTICLE VIII: You do not have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful. (AMEN!)

ARTICLE IX: You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness, which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights .

ARTICLE X: This is an English speaking country. We don't care where you are from, English is our language. Learn it or go back to wherever you came from! (Lastly....)

ARTICLE XI: You do not have the right to change our country's history or heritage. This country was founded on the belief in one true God. And yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or no faith at all; with no fear of persecution The phrase IN GOD WE TRUST is part of our heritage and history, and if you are uncomfortable with it, TOUGH!

"Character"?

I didn't think that word existed any longer.

I would add to the latter article:

You do not have to worship our God, but you do not have the right to stop those who do, EVEN if they choose to convert from YOUR religion.

Z,
This is outstanding. I feel that this speaks to a lot of ills with our country. Frivolous lawsuits have hindered businesses as they contemplate product research. Medicines sometimes are held up that can assist millions for fear of litigation.

My biggest problem is that we have lost our will to excel. We are fine with mediocrity. It's easier isn't it? That way no one will be offended if they are told that they aren't as talented as someone else.

We were talking about the fact that we no longer slot kids in school anymore. In other words, those who demonstrate no desire or ability to handle college curriculum would be steered into learning a trade. This fact causes teachers to deal with students in classrooms who don't want to learn. These "oxygen processors" take up valuable time from those students who have the ability to achieve on a collegiate level, but are cheated because we have to spend so much time keeping order.

It has long been my contention that the kids at the top academically are the ones shorted by the system. No one stands up for them. We have lost our will to excel.

Outstanding, Z. I hereby nominate Z as Chief Justice of the United States.

I also nominate LA SunseT as Attorney General.

In keeping with the traditions of the Democratic Party, I will be happy to nominate others, as soon as I receive your campaign donations.

:-)

L&0..thanks again for the link and your wonderful piece!
It's positively frightening to realize we do NOT aim to excel anymore..we aim to pad the teachers' union coffers.
Thank GOODNESS I know kids who ARE excelling amazingly...my nephew just got accepted to AMAZING universities and not from luck! But, you're right...the parents and teachers are mostly abusing our kids when you consider the lack of education AND how teachers seem to honestly think pouring more money into schools is going to work when the stats who SO differently.

Mustang, Of course, I didn't write this, but thanks!!! You for PRESIDENT! SunsetT can be anything he'd like to be!!

Great post, Z. Sadly, the Bill of Rights has been replaced with a Bill of Lefts.....and it's a massive Bill that our grandchildren's children will need to pay ;)

Mustang - I would like some consideration for a nomination - but we arrogant Americans don't make donations - we make deals ;-)

I'll trade you one Senate seat for a pair of nylons and one of Z's chocolate bars....

Z said...

Miradena, don't EVEN tease about chocolate...!!

And Happy Easter

Happy Easter, z. Hope yours was as nice as mine. I went to mass and then went to a concert at the Gardner. It's Easter so it's the first day the nasturtium are out in the courtyard.

The courtyard was especially nice this year. Lots of lilies and orchards and even some small fruit trees. All that reminder of spring and renewal always seems appropriate today.

Z said...

Oh, Ducky..I ADORE nasturtiums, especially against blue.
I took a shot of a turquoise window box on a building in Le Havre with the orange blossoms against the blue and it's blown up in our downstairs bath....beautiful.

I'm glad you had such a lovely day...what was the music?
Did you know Bach borrowed the theme from St. Matthews passion from Hassler, in O SACRED HEAD NOW WOUNDED? I was surprised that even the GREATS borrowed.

The concert was unusual. A solo bassist and a traditional Chinese pipa player.

Arrangements of Bach and Handel for bass and pipa? It worked brilliantly and they gave two encores. Really masterful technique plus some interesting traditional and contemporary Chinese compositions.
