Laura Bush in England

Dateline; March, 2001 New York Times

The Bushes visited Buckingham Palace, today, in time for a revealing look at Mrs. Bush's afternoon attire. Yellow pleats adorned the well cut jacket whose arms were cut short to reveal the amazing biceps of this wonderfully popular First Lady. The color yellow was chosen in solidarity of the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Her clothes were said to steal the show from the G20 goings on. The pale blue suit in the photo above, worn at an event the very next day, was chosen to show the queen the ocean between our countries needs not be a division in any other way than physical. The Queen's hat, of course, indicated that 'everything's coming up roses' because this marvelous First Lady is on the scene.

Isn't it wonderful that Mrs. Bush warmly put an arm on the Queen's back in disregard to normal protocol? Loving her as we do, the American public is proud to see an American ignore the traditional British ways and reach out, meaningfully and affectionately, to the woman she'd met the day before. It was obvious that these two ladies liked each other a lot and it's hinted that relations with Downing Street will now improve and, possibly, Britain will now be sending 30,000 troops to Afghanistan as a gesture of appreciation for the new president and his glamorous wife. Of course, the troops will certainly not be wearing yellow.

Mr. Bush looked on as Mrs. Bush wowed the European media with her attractive and warm, winning ways. Wolf Blitzer of CNN very sweetly reminded the world how much Mr. Bush loves his wife and how proud he was of her at this gracious evening with European dignitaries.

Mr. Bush presented the Queen with a tape of his State of the Union Speech of this year and selections from Lerner and Loewe.

Z: Sound familiar? I didn't think so. You get the picture.

Hi Z. Very clever indeed. I love this. Your own revisionist history lesson. Nancy Reagan they attacked, Laura Bush, they ignored.

Either way an insult to women who never would have said, "America is a mean country", and neither of their husbands would have called Americans "arrogant, dismissive, and sometimes even derisive" at home or in France!

Yes Z, thanks for illustrating a very clear example of media bias. What a difference an election makes when the winner is a liberal.

To think that biased political reportage extends to spouses of politicians shows how small and narrow minded the leftist media really is.

Immaturity knows no bounds, and no matter the extent of education, high school level of maturity remains alive and well.

No wonder they hate having grown-ups running things, they're still rebelling against them.

Thanks, Pris.
I realize now that this whole busy-ness with nonconsequential subjects keeps the media off the really important stuff......we were talking about AIG bonuses while Mr. Obama was desperately trying to strip our soldiers of their benefits...etc.
The Stimulus Package hasn't been read and most Americans don't realize that because the Right media venues are saying "PAY ATTENTION" and the lefties are demeaning any info just because it came from the Right...So, the media's keeping us busy with really unimportant information while TRULY important issues are passing and we're not even aware of it.

Something has to be done. It's N. Korea again. But, it won't...
because even conservative politicians are far more concerned about their cushy jobs than our country's freedoms.. it's unbelievable.

I had lunch with a woman who was pretty centrist when I met her 2 years ago; she wasn't keen on my warning about Obama, etc. NOW? She's absolutely scared to death.."how did this HAPPEN!?" How, indeed.

Yes Z, the children running, and participating in, reporting the news, throw tantrums when a Republican is in office, and when a Democrat is in office, they go to their room or watch anything that's animated.

I have not been more embarrassed since Chavez tried to hug the Queen.

Z,
Nicely done. The best way to point out inequities is to take a situation to its greatest extent. You did that here and did it very well.

No one of any intelligence doubts that Pres. Bush and Obama are treated differently by the media. You pointed out that the media are biased. Again thinking people will see that.

Of course, our boy will see it a different way. That's why I said thinking.

I didn't watch any of it on television. The idea of Hussein and Michele over there representing me was something I didn't want to think about.

The Queen's smile looks genuine with Laura, but SO forced with the Obamas in the pictures I've seen. Me too, Hermit, I can't stand watching their diplomatic train wreck either.

Z said...

CJ, I thought the same thing. The Queen looks very soft and sweet with the Bushes and somewhat strained with the Obamas.

Hermit; don't you feel under represented, or UNrepresented, all around? On EVERYTHING these days?

L&0.thanks. I wonder if people understand it gives me no pleasure? It really doesn't.

I'd adore raving about this president and his wife, I really would..Young, vital, supposedly bright.....I"D ADORE being fans. Sadly, what their plans are for this country, and their incredible naive understanding of geopolitical situations and a misunderstanding of history and our place in the world, as exhibited in his speeches this week, positively scare me.

Do you know the difference between the British and American social welfare system?

In America, we provide food, clothing, and shelter to our inbred, underemployed yokels.

In Britain, they do all that and put crowns on their heads.

Anonymous said...

YOu think it is only the Brits putting crowns on welfare peoples' heads?
Look again.

See how this whole country is becoming enslaved to prop up and give to the unenlightened and great unwashed masses so they can have health care, food, houses, even televisions.

Not only that, we are going to have people run out and count people who are here illegally so THEY can have some of all the above named entitlements.
What a world.

We have television shows that prop up these dysfunctional beings as normal and they are venerated.
If the rest of us object, we are seen as cruel and tight handed and selfish. Meanwhile, political groups go about hunting up more politicans to help bring about more of the same .

Of course, eventually the whole sorry brew will collapse, as there will be more takers than workers.

Oh and let us not forget the sight of our fearless leader bowing to his real masters as he disses us, the people who are paying his salary.

What a joy it is to get up these days and listen and watch the news.

beamish, I'm a bit of a monarchist myself...got to admit I like all that stuff; I think it gives a culture dignity and beauty; that the newer generations are anything but dignified is less the royal system's fault than the dopey, culture-smited young royals. Plus, it brings a LOT of money into Britain..a LOT.

WVDOTTR...you're on a streak!....excellent comments.
and very, very sad commentary, huh? xx

Z,

The word "royal" is meaningless to me in socio-political terms. It's just a polite way to describe a leech dressed like Liberace to me.

There's nothing wrong with the royal system if you can find one not created and populated by humans.

The percentage of the American population on food stamps has risen to 15% and this is what the right wing worries about.

Simply outstanding.

Anonymous said...

No, sir! WE worry about the very EXISTENCE of Food Stamps --- something that just SHOULD NOT BE.

Ever see the 400-pound Welfare Queens loading up on giant-sized bags of potato chips, enormous amounts of cheap candy and huge bottles of Coca Cola?

If not, you don't know Welfaramerika.

Brilliant juxtaposition, Z. Hope we see more of these "alternate universe" explorations from you. Most instructive.

There is more than just food stamps being given away in this country.

And President Bush was villified on a daily basis for his accent and pronounciation of words.

But, Mr. Pockistan can stand there and be hailed as the second coming.

Incredible.

Read too, where Michelle Obama got in the way of Prince Phillip when he was being photographed.

No class , none at all.

Ducky, I'd answer, but I've answered that old hackneyed comment a million.

May I remind you that a fair and honest media was something America championed until the left took over?

May I remind you that conservatives are all over class and dignity? Thanks.

Zach, welcome to geeeZ!

We keep turning the page instead of staying on our own.

The welfare system could not be abused if the welfare system did not exist.

All else is compromise and dilution.
