Just heard on ABC LA radio...

"Mr Obama was asked about the Somali ship situation and how things got solved but he said he only wanted to talk about the housing crisis..."
How much do you think we gave the Somalis? Why wouldn't he talk about it unless...........
Well, it makes him look very effective for ten minutes. Until the emboldened Somalis try again. z

Z,
Who didn't see this coming?
The man is sending the FBI, I think to negotiate with the SOmali pirates.
Whoop dee do.

By the way, there have been several raids on money transfer schemes and operations run by Somali's in Minnesota.

Russian and Chinese Spies infiltrate our power grids, Somali pirates take Americans hostage.

Iran has over 7,000 centrifuges working .

But Mr. Obama wants to talk about housing?

Mr. Obama wants immigration reform, like...yesterday, too.

What was it Joe Biden said....gird our loins???

Well, thankfully he has enough sense not to talk during some very difficult negotiations. Someone's life is a stake.

Now reports say the captain surrendered himself as a hostage to spare his crew. A truly heroic act that deserves every attempt to get him out of this without injury.

Good time for politicians to shut their mouths and not make threats.

Z said...

Hi, WV...yes, the grid situation is really scary, but "there's no terror threat" according to so many on our left.
And, today, Iran's saying they'll talk ,but THEY"ll call the shots. In other words, we have to BELIEVE their nukes are for energy only, and not demand they close down, and THEN discuss closing down their nuke development. Make sense!? Brother!!!

Ducky, don't believe everything you hear.
By the way, I believe every president has had the sense enough to talk during difficult negotiations. What do you think negotiations are?
We don't give in to terrorists who can do this again, Ducky....the captain wouldn't approve, either, I'll bet.

Z said...

Ducky, I was thinking, though....Maybe Obama feels badly for the pirates...they wouldn't 'have to do this' if they weren't poor and maybe if we give them millions, they'll stop?
Doesn't that sound like something he'd do?

Last night on Larry King, Dr. Laura Schlesinger was discussing her newest book in praise of stay-at-home moms. He kept wondering what the benefits to moms being at home with their children over nannies were..and she kept answering him...as if anybody needs to have that explained, right? Healthier to have a mother teaching her ethics, her morality;healthier to have a child feel confident someone's home who really cares, healthier..well, why go on? Who can't see that?

Suddenly, King says "but care givers need work, too!"

I kid you not.

z, when was the last freakin' hostage negotiation you were involved in. A man's life is at stake and all you have are some cliches.

Get a clue.

Z said...

What 'cliches', Ducky? Because you don't agree, they're relegated to 'cliche'?

FBI negotiators are involved. ALL I SAID was I hope we're not giving money to people who DO THIS FOR MONEY.
The man took a huge risk doing what he does, considering those waters are constantly pirated.

Some hostages actually have said they understood why their captors weren't given in to. It's something you and I can probably not understand but it's a courage and doing what's right that we haven't been exposed to in a long time. I think that's actually out of our lexicon anymore.

Greywolfe said...

ducky, "get a clue."? There is a very good reason why we had a policy of non-negotiation with terrorists for years.

one, they lie. Two, it emboldens the next ones to try it.

Here's what you do, you find out who they are and tell them, look release the hostage or you, your chums, and anyone we can find that is assosiated with you are extinct.

That's my idea of negotiations. Then if they give up, you send them to some swamp in Louisianna to work for the next 15 years at hard labor.

DaBlade said...

It amazes me that these cargo boats don't have mounted machine guns and a sidewinder or two. Now thems negotiations. Gun free zones work so well, don't they? I'll bet Obama is swabbing the pirates deck with a pail and a mop as we speak.

Here is the Standard Obama Response throughout his administration:

"We are monitoring the situation."

Z said...

But, Greywolfe, there's also a 'good reason' why pirates in that region have for the first time selected an American ship to attack. They were afraid before. They had reason to fear.

They haven't that fear anymore.
N. Korea's testing...
Somalis are testing....
China and Russia are hacking our electrical grid....
Moderate Taliban are laughing their (@*#'s at us

And, Turkey's assured we're not a Christian nation anymore. I pass a mosque every WEdnesday which I hadn't given a second thought to until a friend said his ex lives near it and the looks the people give her and others could kill...it's apparently known as a militant mosque. WHERE are we?

Obama's having a seder tonight at the WH. Wonderful idea. (did he have a rock group there for his Wed.night deals?)
And, it's sort of like nationalizing a bank; now he can fire the CEO!
Having a seder opens the door to Ramadan at the WH. Wait for it.

hi, BZ..."let me make this clear, a whole HOST of people are MONITORING the situation.." right?

meanwhile, we were 'monitoring' Iraq for a while, too.

http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/u/uraniumyellowcake.htm

Just long enough to make fools of us for not having believed those who said Saddam had yellow cake...monitoring just long enough for him to get rid of it.

Z said...

DaBlade...that's what I and Mr. Z keep saying "Oh big cargo ships, the somali guys take OVER?" What is UP with that?
BUT, whatever the Somalis did, if a European bunch attacked them, the Europeans'd be in front of the Hague on TORTURE CHARGES>

Funny, we'll be waiting YEARS before captured Somalis will ever see a trial, huh?

BZ..good to see you ! Monitoring..yes. "Let me make this clear...A whole HOST of people is MONITORING...", right?
Well, monitoring is what the enemy's counting on.
We monitored Saddam just long enough for him to have moved yellow cake, too, remember?

Somebody on the Bainbridge is a trained marksman, one of the bosun's, most likely. Those ships all carry the M14 with a scope. Just let the Deck Ape solve the problem.

shoprat said...

If they grab another one in a relatively short time it's a good bet that he paid them off. If they show a bit more caution about American ships then maybe not. Time will tell.

Gayle said...

You're right, Z. Why should they fear Obama? That would be like fearing the Easter Bunny!

I "girded my loins" when this guy was still running for the office of the Presidency. Oops. I almost forgot that he still is. At least that's the way he's been acting. Anyway, it should have been my brains that I girded because too much more of all the total crap we've been subjected to is going to drive me over the edge.

Here's what you do, you find out who they are and tell them, look release the hostage or you, your chums, and anyone we can find that is associated with you are extinct.

-----------------------

Including the crews being held hostage?

Typical primitive right wing thinking.

This has been going on for quite some time and isn't as easily stopped as you might imagine. Of course we could strafe a few towns, kill civilians and cause the deaths of a number of foreign nationals?

This is like the drug trade. A few weapons, a few high speed small boats and they're back in a very high profit business. Now the question is why don't shippers find it cost effective to put an armed crew on their ships or mount a couple of chain guns which would do the job quickly.

Must be that this is not so straight forward as the "force as a first resort" right imagines.

Also z, why should Obama make any statement during a negotiation. You keep a poker face and let the experts deal with it. They have certainly been briefed on what the limits are.

mynameismax said...

my radio is real! its just broken.

Z said...

Obama's not involved. I just watched the news conference. He's being kept abreast of what's going on.

Hillary just said that "an important part of this is instability in Somalia.." They're poor, so they pirate.

Maybe part of the stimulus will be going to Somalia, too, huh?

Let me tell you what I would do:

1. Bomb the s$%& out of the areas where these guys live and operate.

2. Despite international laws (what are these good for?) I would equip, as somebody above said already, with heavy armament, and shoot at anything approaching.

End of the story. Maybe some these scums will be understanding that the party is over.

Ducky, this is why being President is hard. There are times when the right decision can cost a life or lives, in order to prevent the taking of more lives, or holding a nation hostage.

Yes the Captain is heroic, and no one here want's to see him die.

But, on the other hand, since they're out in the ocean with no escape available, the pirates know the minute they would shoot the Captain, their lives aren't worth a plug nickel.

If they get a payoff, and are let go, you can be sure, henceforth, a ship flying the American flag will be just as vulnerable as any other.

Evidently until Obama was elected, that wasn't the case. He's being tested.

I expect he'll do what he's always done. Vote "present"!

Z, I have to side with Ducky here. I CAN'T believe I just said that!

I feel a LOT more comfortable with the Navy and the FBI dealing with this situation with ABSOLUTELY NO interference from NObama. They know more about what to do than he does. It's about the first time he has handled anything correctly, if that is really what he is doing. This is an occassion where delegating authority makes the most sense.

Pirates and thugs have been taking hostages for hundreds of years..it is how they make a living, and some call it criminal enterprise.

Excuses for Obama, seem to be at the ready .

Please.

No one said anything about threats, etc..

But crooks cannot be rewarded. It is a simple enough thing to understand.

It's been historically and traditionally your side (Democrats) that has used the military to raze cities and the civilian populations in them with bombs, both conventional and nuclear.

If you want to be a "man of the world" leftist rather than an American leftist, then you should answer for your leftist brothers Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Mussolini, Castro, Pol Pot, etc.

So please, spare us your "poor innocent people" heart-bleeding.

We know better.

Seems to me he's got the perfect setup here. If the mission to rescue the captain succeeds he'll take credit for it away from the Navy and FBI; if it fails he'll denounce them albeit in a furtive, veiled kinda way. But for me the real jackass in this drama has been Lady Clinton: have you heard or seen the interview from today or yesterday in which she cracks up raucously while discussing the whole pirating issue? Mind-blowing... even worse than Obama's 60 Minutes gigglefest.

Anonymous said...

Sometimes being a leader means doing hard things.

There is a whole lot more at stake here than one man, and that is not to say I have no feelings for this captain.

However, the future of what happens to any one else out there in those waters is at stake here and if we blink at a group of pirates, children, then we can forget everything.

Every swinging idiot out there can just do more of the same to folks and businesses on the good old high seas.

Word is Obama has given orders for no shooting.

If true, I am already seeing a big problem about our chances in America , should we get attacked.

Everything is a test.

How about we lose the lawyers and stop acting like this is a stand off at a 7-11?

Well, now here we go, the French have intervened in a similar case. One hostage killed, but also killed some pirates.

So now, it seems the French are leading , and doing something about a bad situation.

Here we are.

Guess the French are the new leaders of the free world.

It'll have to happen again and again and again and again before there is even a chance the left might learn from it.

As quacky amply demonstrates. They'll never deal with the pirates as necessary, because deep down inside, they feel that some injustice was done to the pirates that warranted this action. America has to be worse than the pirates.

Go on quacky, tell us about the social justice angle in all this. You know you want to.

Ducky's here said...

Well folks, captain's safe and the pirates got their heads blown off. Everyone happy and ready to admit that Obama is strong under pressure?

Greywolfe said...

sorry to rain on your parade ducky, but this just in, "One of the pirates pointed an AK-47 at the back of Phillips, who was tied up and in "imminent danger" of being killed when the commander of the nearby USS Bainbridge made the split-second decision to order his men to shoot, Vice Adm. Bill Gortney said."

Oops, they may have gotten the go ahead to "plan" a rescue, but the one who was cool under pressure was the skipper of the Bainbridge.

Barry get's a C- for being late to turn in his homework. Damned terrorists should have been dropped the day the warship got there.

Z said...

Ducky.."strong under pressure?" Who WOULDN'T have ordered that? ANYBODY?

It's only under obama these weasels decided they COULD try for an American ship...realize that?

Ducky's here said...

I was curious how the right would spin it. Bottom line, the Navy was in complete control of the situation and rather than coddling the pirates as the far right would have us believe, Obama ordered them shot.

So, the far right is wrong once again.

Z said...

Hey, Ducky...link something that tells us your take on it, okay? I'd be eager to see that.
