Liz Cheney and Debra Burlingame

Tonight, I went with 3 friends to hear Liz Cheney and Debra Burlingame talk about national security. You should be very happy you weren't there. They know more than we're hearing in the media, trust me. And none of it is good.

Debra's the sister of the pilot, Captain Chick Burlingame, whose plane was hijacked and crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11. Ms Burlingame is an attorney and has dedicated her life to keeping our country safe.

You know who Liz Cheney is. Number one, that woman is
TINY in stature....number two, what I hadn't heard is that she's not only an attorney but has studied Middle East affairs for the last twenty years.

Both women are formidable and as patriotic and informed as two women can be. And they're very worried for our country.

Burlingame related stories about 8 Germans caught here for espionage in, I believe, 1942; they had American army records (frauds), had lived in America and spoke very good English, but were caught and were quickly given trials and I believe it was 6 who got the death sentence and 2 got life imprisonment. Another German case was arrests made for spying here in this country and they were caught and tried within one month. Burlingame compared this with the way we're taking forever bringing terrorists to trial and tripping over ourselves to protect THEM instead of US. Very different than sixty years ago and not a safe situation.

She met with Obama regarding Gitmo and she reminded him how he'd once said how safe and good for prisoners it was there and she added that it would help if he'd elaborate on that and remind Americans of that fact. She said he simply "shrugged" and took the next question. As she implied, it's not about keeping us safe, it's about ideology.

Burlingame also spoke about
waterboarding, which they are STILL DOING TO AMERICAN FIGHTER PILOTS in a program called SERE (her brother, as a navy flier, went through this program and referred to it as "POW SCHOOL" because it gets pilots ready for the horrors of getting caught and tortured)... EVERY PILOT is waterboarded..."Tens of thousands" of our soldiers are subjected to it to this day. Never once has a congressman called that torture. Because it isn't. She elaborated on the procedure and I wish I had the details but she backed up her information very well.

Debra Burlingame flashed on a screen a flier Gitmo detainees had had sent to them....it was in Arabic and told how CRUEL and INHUMAN their treatment was there and gave ways to get out of having to answer interrogators, lies to use, etc etc. This was distributed by American attorneys.... read HERE for more details .
There is some really unbelievable stuff going on and I wish you all could have heard it.

Liz Cheney mostly spoke about America's posture in the world. She spoke about how it's apparent that Obama thinks America's the biggest problem in the world and how we need to go back to having a Commander in Chief and not a Global Community Organizer who seems to stand separate above the world situation, including separate from US, and thinks making us weak is going to please our enemies enough to make them back off.

She highly recommends a book called COURTING DISASTER by Mark Thiessen. The subtitle is "How the CIA Kept America Safe and How Obama Is Inviting the Next Attack." The details of what Obama's done to the CIA were horrifying and I couldn't write fast enough to get much of it down, sadly. But, frankly, you don't really want to know. (UPDATE: HERE is the link for more details from her article in the WSJ)

Cheney feels Obama is not nearly doing all an American president can to protect us and, in fact, is doing quite the opposite. As an obviously devoted fan of Charles Krauthammer's, she quoted him in his statement that "Decline is a Choice" and that we're on a decline now, adding that America has the moral obligation to lead and Cheney hopes our next president, in January, 2013, will lead us back to the Superpower position Obama disdains. She has come up with quite a good synopsis of the OBAMA DOCTRINE and gave several examples for each of the doctrinal points below:

Apologize for America
Abandon Allies
Appease Enemies

Both women are now joined with Wm Kristol in an organization called KEEP AMERICA SAFE (check out the Laura Ingraham video interview of Cheney on that site, Cheney mentions some things she spoke about tonight). I suggest you Bookmark it and read it from time to time. If you can take 'hearing' what you're going to read!

We've been lulled to complacency. Sooner or later we're going to be hit with something that puts our squabbles over domestic issues into perspective. I hope that doesn't happen until after Nov 2012.

We all should be. All decent people should be worried sick when leftists are running the show, they always turn everything to sh!t sooner or later.

"As she implied, it's not about keeping us safe, it's about ideology."

It wouldn't be so bad if their ideology was good and in the interests of furthering the nation, but that's never the case with the progressives.

Now, there's something I had no idea about!

I see that my public library has copies of Courting Disaster. I placed a reserve on the book and am #6 in line, so I should have the book in hand soon. Will it give me nightmares?

OMG! As if the detainees need to be fired up for jihad over and over again!

Sheesh. Folks like Z have been paying plenty of attention, doing research, ect. The only argument the left has is, "I don't trust you and you're a dummy and I know everything."

Pitiful.

Despite your warning to the contrary, Z, I would have liked to been there to hear all that these ladies had to say.

I don't think foreign terrorists arrested in the process of carrying out jihad against infidels are entitled to the protection granted under the law to rightful citizens. I'd be inclined to prefer they be tried by military tribunal.

I found this interview with Kenneth Starr (from the Olbermann show with Kenneth O'Donnell) which addresses this specific topic of your post here, Z. I thought Starr made good arguments and since O'Donnell didn't shout him down, it was because Starr supported the position of the left on this issue, I guess.

You will have to excuse the source as it could well be the blog of the local quack ...

Here are the facts behind Burlingame's points about Gitmo and how American attorneys prepared an 18-page color brochure in Arabic for detainees...terrible breaches of security included.

That's Cheney's piece on the dangers of the so-called policy of our present administration...

RK: I fear the same thing...I keep worrying if we'll have a Nov 2012 election or be hit by something huge.

MK: sure does depend on the ideology, doesn't it. But, you know, liberal ideology used to INCLUDE AMERICAN SAFETY...Democats Pat Moynihan or Tip O'Neal would have never revealed vital information which 8 Espionage leaders in America AND LEON PANETTA tried to warn Obama about "you'll be putting our agents in jeopardy if you give out that information"....Obama did.

Open Mouth, welcome! A challenge against Obama in the Dem primary? Heck, I'd even take HER over HIM:-)

Always: THANKS for that link at ASTUTE BLOGGERS, I was so happy to see that! The Burlingame article I link above in this comment has the details on that horrid 18 PAGE flier.

Abandon Allies

Which allies? This is nothing but code for not allowing Likud to do anything it damn well pleases.

May satisfy the end timers but it is hardly sound foreign policy.

Z said...

ALWAYS: Reliapundit is RIGHT ON with that information, it's amazing how we've stripped our capacities....

Waylon; I am so glad you gave me that link. This is EXACTLY the mentality Burlingame is most worried about....lawyers secretly feeding illegal information to detainees and Starr doesn't get it?!! These aren't fine, upstanding lawyers who are doing their job in defending everyone in our country as our laws have offered; Please read the Burlingame link I gave in my last comment. that flier I mention in my piece was sent by one Julia Tarver Mason, a partner at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison...to Al Joudi and 8 of the firm's other detainee clients through 'legal mail'....a designation for privileged lawyer-client communications that are exempt from screening by security personnel. !!! The investigation showed that her clients passed it to other detainees not represented by her firm!! AN AMERICAN LAWYER CANNOT GIVE INFORMATION RELATING TO MILITARY OPS, INTEL, ARREST, POLITICAL NEWS AND CURRENT EVENTS, OR THE NAMES OF US GOV'T PERSONNEL!! Please check out the link... SHE DID

Starr is SO off and doesn't seem to be fully briefed; Burlingame would not argue that detainees shouldn't get what they're entitled to by law. But, THIS?
Doesn't it strike you as odd that Starr would even appear on that show after the beatings Olbermann has given him? O'Donnell even refers to him as the most maligned person Olbermann's slammed???

The video says far more against Starr than it does against Burlingame and her information...

By the way, I'm fairly certain Holder still hasn't revealed names of all those DOJ lawyers he's hired who've dealt with detainees. I'm saying that one could be Tarver, if she wasn't getting seventeen million dollars from Kuwait to represent the suspected terrorists.

Oh, Ducky, the more you write, the more you show..

Poland and Czech Republic were ALLIES of ours when Obama took the shield off of them.
Israel is an important ally of ours and Obama's the first president to not offer them total support as well.
You go off and harangue as much as you'd like about Israel but the facts are there.

Abandon or insult...take your pick.
The Brits apparently still haven't got over Obama's sending back the Churchill bust which had been a gift to the WH...he said he didn't like looking at it. Something about Kenya dontchaknow.
He still hasn't been to Berlin because he didn't like them preventing him from giving AMERICAN CAMPAIGN SPEECHES at the Brandenburg Gates and ALL heads of state go to country capitals before they go elsewhere; he's turned down invites to Berlin.
i'm bored ...look it up

You conveniently forget that Liz Cheney's father was Secy' of Defense for Bush sr., and recently Vice President. In fact has spent his life in a position to know more than you could possibly have a clue about.

I'd say, besides her studies, Liz Cheney has a pretty solid source in Dick Cheney.

Ducky, why should you trust Z? She's reporting on a substantive presentation she attended. What do you have to report on, besides your usual talking points.

You wouldn't have bothered to attend that presentation, and you know it. So, you'd better trust Z, or your ignorance as to what's really going on, will remain your clueless uninformed vision of what you wish instead of what reality is.

You met some nice Muslims in Saudi, how NICE< DUCKY! And I'll bet you believe ALL the hideous ones are just misunderstood...the same "misunderstood" break you give Christian nuts who kill abortion docs, right, Ducky?

I've met nice Muslims, too..MANY of them, some even love America and support her and wouldn't have Sharia Law in this country if their lives depended on it. Do I relax under the silly liberal kumbaya mentality that nobody's going to drop botulism in Liz Cheney's Wheaties? No, I love this country and my family and friends too much.

Sean Penn likes Iraq, too, don't you know? He had shish kebab with Saddam and WOW, WHAT A COUNTRY!

Mr Z was in Iraq for long periods of time years ago and found the people highly sophisticated and likable, at least the ones who showed up for meetings, not the ones who didn't and were never heard from again. But, he was WISE ENOUGH to understand that the culture is spawning HATRED RIGHT NOW, DUCKY, it's not THE WEST.

STOP with the fawning, Ducky...it's just silly. Go back to your calligraphy. You should have gone to Asia for that, they're much more highly sophisticated and skilled at it there. Or go join that law firm which is helping terror suspects work against us. Enjoy.

However, when it comes to geopolitical and international military issues, I live with Mr. Pris who does claim an expertise in these areas. That expertise was obtained over a period of over forty years.

As for how many Muslims died in the towers? Can you please tell me how that influences ANYTHING? Are you SERIOUS? I don't and never have denied they weren't all Americans...Do you think they missed their targets and weren't aiming for great American institutions like the WTC and the Pentagon and were really aiming for Mecca or Riyad? are you NUTS?

Ducky,
I think you recognize the threat of Islam more than you're letting on. When the second plane crashed into the Twin Towers, I surmised this was the act of Muslim terrorists. Does this mean I'm and expert on Islam or that I have some special clairvoyance? Not really; it was pretty obvious. I suspect you might have made a similar prediction.

I have a wee nit to pick.

The usual way of spelling Ms Burlingame's first name is D-E-B-O-R-A-H. It's pronounced DEBRA with a tiny "uh" or "schwa" between the B and the R.

The only time I've ever seen the name spelled this way before was back in the days when Debra Paget decked the silver screen.

Misspelling names is becoming the norm. I see it as part of the dumbing down process.

Now, please don't take this as an unwarranted criticism of Ms Burlingame. It's not a swipe at her or her ideas at all rather it's illustrative of a trend I dislike -- part of the degeneration and disintegration of our language.

Any day now we'll see spellings like Mayree, Darithee, Dorthi, Loosee, Penni, Sayra, Wendi, Lawri, Sharlit, Ulizzubith, Puttrishah, Eelayne, Marralinn, Jone, etc.

Ennybuddy hoo thanks it jess doan matta hao t hangs izz speld iz jess playne rawng. It duzz matta, buhleave mee.

Free Thinker, DEBRA Burlingame spells her name that way on the blurb we all got at our tables. Please Google and you'll see 90% of her listings are spelled as SHE spelled it on the sheet. D E B R A. It's an uncommon spelling and I'm extremely sensitive to misspelled names because of my own rather difficult one...so I try to be careful.
I did, however, spell her brother's name "Chick" instead of "Chic" ...I'm just too lazy to change it in the post ..
Maybe she's 'dumb downed', but she didn't strike me that way.

Z! I did NOT mean to imply that YOU misspelled her name -- far from it. I was just noting a modern cultural trend I've been bothered by for years -- deliberately misspelling common names just to be "different." I think it's a poor way to distinguish oneself.

I also said I did not make that observation to slam Ms. Burlingame or any of the work she's doing.

As I said, it was just "wee nit" I had to pick -- nothing more.

BTW, if I HAD thought you were in error, I would never tell you HERE. I would send you a private email, if I thought it important enough to bother with. You should know me pretty well by now. I'm not out to humiliate or irritate anyone -- and certainly not YOU.

The Germans were landed by submarine with purpose of sabotage on American mainland (Operation Pastorius}. Four men were landed on Long Island wearing German Army uniforms. Safely ashore they buried their uniforms and donned civilian attire. Turned in by their leader/turncoat they, and four others who were landed near Jacksonville, Florida, were tried, convicted and six were sentenced to death by a Military Commission. The turncoat was sentenced to 33 years and a co-conspirator to life imprisonment.

If the eight men had been captured on the beach in their German Army uniform they would have been sent to a POW camp. Once they donned civilian clothing they became spies.

There was declared war between Germany and the United States. The men were enemy combatants who went on a mission to spy & sabotage.

The Law of Land Warfare (FM27-10) as printed c. 1940 clearly states that spies would be sentenced to death. The stated reason was to make the occupation of spying "as dangerous, difficult and ineffective as possible for the enemy."

The legal authority quoted in FM27-10 was The Hague Conventions of 1899 & 1907 and Article 82 of The Articles of War, as approved by the Secretary of War, June 4, 1920. Note that The Articles of War was replaced in 1950 by the Uniformed Code of Military Justice. FM27-10, The Law of Land Warfare, is still an Army Field Manual. The Geneva Convention has replaced the Hague Convention.

The bottom line is still the various sources still allow for the execution of spies, however, the point of all the sources is how to act in a declared war.

I will be on board if anyone could come up with a legal basis to execute some of these men, but, does anyone really believe that Eric Holder is busy researching that? This is a very tricky situation for our love of the rule of law.

If anyone wants to analyze a military execution situation consider American Pvt. Eddie Slovik who was shot by a firing squad in France on the morning of Jan. 31, 1945, for desertion in the face of the enemy. Tragic story.

Good morning Z, I still would like to know why the American attorneys who disseminated the anti-American pamphlets instructing Gitmo prisoners on how to falsely claim torture and resist interrogations, and also showed photos of CIA operatives to them, have not been arrested and charged with treason. To add insult to injury, that jackass, AG Eric Holder, actually hired many of them as Justice Dept. lawyers. What a country!

Z said...

FairWitness, that's exactly some of what Burglingame talked about, too..TREASON. There is no reason they shouldn't be charged but, with this DOJ, there isn't much chance.
And, as you say, instead of charging these people, Holder's hiring them on our tax dollar to help terror suspects escape persecution by pumping them up with Anti_American rhetoric and ways to avoid showing guilt.
Some American administration, huh?

I am not "anti-Muslim" - I recognize that our victories in Iraq and Afghanistan would not be possible without assistance from Muslims. We are not at war with Islam, we are at war with terrorists who happen to be Muslims.

As for Ducky's "experience in Middle East affairs" from studying calligraphy, we can count this as his leftist ideological need to reveal his stupidity, and nothing more.

Z, why does your blog have off-color humor? My word verification for this post is "stifi." Tsk, tsk.

I'm off for the nekkid ladies mud wrestling show. Keep it clean while I'm gone.

This is way so many Conservatives wish we'd see Muslims in America marching against terrorism. Do they NEED to to dissuade 'guilt by association'...maybe not. Would it give a lot of non Muslim Americans some hope? you bet. Should they care how we feel. Double YOU BET.

Bubba...:-) have fun! I'm off to an Alzheimer's Association luncheon...at the Beverly Hills Hotel..the big pink one on Sunset Blvd you've probably all seen. See you later...have a good day.

that avatar IS a crackup, Bubba!

The Luncheon I mention above today was lovely, until the singer entertainment started in on THE MERRY WIDOW WALTZ and suddenly went from English to German. Man, you never know when something will hit you HARD in the grieving process...imagine the luck? :-(
