Swedish Cartoon.......

This one's from Sweden.  You can see how THEY see what's happening............watch it roll, all that promise the idiots in America had while they voted for a man with no experience, who they knew almost nothing about (and still don't), who, among other nightmares, blames Republicans for the Dream Act's going down and that the Republicans played politics when that enormously important bill was never brought up ONCE until the vote; now THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is POLITICS.  God bless us all................God, catch that halo and put it on someone who deserves it.  Amen.

I think our media's too agenda-driven...and scared to death not to look like a 'hip and cool obama junkie'........very sad state of affairs.
The European press, and Canada particularly, has had the best cartoons to date.

Z, you can only bring legislation to the floor in the Senate once you have 60 votes, not a simple majority.

The DREAM Act was never brought to a floor vote as a majority of the Republicans members of the Senate opposed bringing the legislation out of committee, knowing it would pass if it was brought to the floor.

Z said...

that's rubbish, Dave.
And a liberal's dream come true....just bring up a HUGE bill with incredible consequences for vote "TODAY!", make Republicans look bad because it looks like they're voting summarily against illegals, and then whine it was their fault it wasn't voted upon because they hate all illegals.
Just RUBBISH. I"ve read too many articles on what really happened and will try to post one here.

Z said...

well, I've Googled and all I find is attacks against the Republicans on this........Every article has "republicans hate Hispanics"

The left's good;

memo to America; when you ever want to take a country over, make sure you've got the media on your side.

I blame the Republicans for not clearly laying out exactly WHY they don't want this bill passed; it's obviously nothing to do with hating anybody, that's ludicrous and political suicide. I get very tired of fighting the leftwing media; Google, snopes, Truth/Fiction, WIkipedia,...Yahoo, AOL, etcetc. very defeating

Z, 60 votes are required to avoid a filibuster in the Senate so that an up or down vote may be taken on any legislation.

The Democrats were only able to muster 56 votes against that filibuster number, not the required 60.

This is all, at least regarding this particular issue, pretty available information.

It is interesting to note that at least some Republicans who previously supported a much more liberal version of the DREAM Act in the past, decided not to support this version which included such provisos that the applicant had to speak English, have completed two years of college or served in the US Military, could not apply to sponsor another relative for at least 12 years, have entered the country when under 15 years of age, and have been here at least 5 years.

Also, the act bars immigrants eligibility for "Obamacare" medicaid, food stamps, and any other federal entitlement program, until they become citizens.

Clearly, it is a path to citizenship, but only for kids who have lived here, are for all intents and purposes assimilated into American culture, and have no desire to return home.

They must also pay any back taxes they owe, pass a background check by the DHS and generally be a good citizen.

Z said...

Dave, doesn't that all sound wonderful?
I have heard about how they'd get around the 2 years in college stipulation...and, most are already on entitlements; think they're going to give it up?

FrogBurger said...

Dave it's not about the vote, it's about the method.

You guys are anti democratic and fascistic in nature these days. Admit it. Especially when the nation voted against your bullshit.

I had said that Obama was an empty suit when he was elected. Yet I remember a Europe that lauded him as a conquering hero. They even awarded him with a Nobel Prize on credit and not accomplishment. Mark my words, Sweden has not "seen the light." It is merely the way of the left to eat their own when they fail.

Ticker said...

It failed to get even a cloture vote. The Dems didn't have the votes but wanted to make a show of "caring" which in the end is all BS anyhow since everyone knows all they really wanted was the votes.

If they had had the votes Reid would have brought it along before the election. He only wanted a show.
Yes, the Dems only have 58 seats but they have the RINO vote of Stowe and Collins plus they can usually count on Lindsey Graham and of course the now independent(INO) Liberman. That's 62

Among the 45 Senators who did not support moving ahead with the DREAM Act were 6 Democrats and 39 Republicans. While Republicans provided the lion’s share of opposition, with 3 Republicans voting yes, the bill could have achieved 61 votes had all Democrats stood together and voted yes.

Even a few democrats were smart enough to see through Reid's game and understood that the bill was a farce. The military option has always been there for these folks. As far as education deal goes any punk can attend school for a short time and with the loose language in the bill could drop out after a short semester and bingo, citizenship and then bring all their family, cousins, uncles & who ever else they could claim kin to into the country. That is exactly what the dems were counting on.

Dave Miller said...

Or Ticker, using your logic, even a few Republicans were enough to be part of the majority of the Senators who supported this legislation.

And yes Frogburger, I am aware of methods pissing people off.

That is why the GOP is solidly against supporting the First Responders Bill to help out dying firefighters and rescue people from 9/11, because they are mad about the methods used to bring the legislation to a vote.

And that is why they are opposing the new START Treaty that every living Secretary of State, including conservative darling Condaleeza Rice, support, along with the Joint Chiefs and all living Presidents. All of those leaders are calling this treat vital to US National Security.

Even after every single concern of the GOP was addressed vis a vis this treaty, they have decided not to support it because they are mad about having to take a vote on DADT, [as explained by Sen. Corker and Graham] the DREAM Act.

Dave, there shouldn't be even any vote during the lame duck session. Period. Democrats or Republicans I don't care.

About START I have no clue about it son I won't emit an opinion. I don't like talking out of my rear end like Libs.

Rice opposing it? Well I'm not sure she's a conservative. Republicans and Conservative are not synonyms. Maybe you forgot about that.

Dave Miller said...

Frog, maybe it came up in the lame duck session because the GOP, in their haste to say no to everything related to Obama, requested numerous delays and extensions to the process.

The Senate has had this treaty since May and the GOP has blocked action o it since then.

Sometimes you can only get stuff done in a lame duck session.

No thoughts on the First Responders Bill which is being held up on Capital Hill, because they do not want to say that it is the GOP doing the holding up?

Interesting that we can't get 10 votes from the conservative God and country people to take care of these men and women.

FrogBurger said...

Sometimes you can only get stuff done in a lame duck session.

Some stuff could have been done in October like the budget but the morons and lazy f--s we have in Congress didn't do anything about it. That includes both parties.

Dave, I'm tired of the blame game. It's for children. Feel free to be part of it.

The lame duck session was supposed to be anti constitutional yet the frauds we have as politicians found a loophole in it.

No thoughts on the First Responders Bill

No. Because I haven't investigated all the information. So I would talk about my rear end again or would blah blah what I hear on one side? Did you look at things in details on both sides or are you just repeating the Democrats' schtick?

What I've learned from how Congress work is that it's too easy to blame a party for holding up a bill. Those bills are like cancer. They're packaged with crap instead of addressing one issue specifically. So I find normal parties hold things up in the process.

I'm tired of lamos like you who don't understand a party has the right to say NO to the other party if they don't agree with something.

Only spoiled brats or immature adults are used to Yes all the time.

Z said...

thank to a "party of No" which doesn't just tick down a list "let's get all of this done" when so little's known and there isn't any screaming hurry for the legislation that can't wait a few weeks of OPEN CONVERSATION.

It's only the silly who believe Republicans are hurting this country by asking to really have good looks, no changes involved looks, at bills before they're forced to sign.
I realize how beguiling this is to the American people, hearing the leftwing media distort the record as I saw they were doing all night when I couldn't sleep, but this is insulting and dangerous; highly effective but dangerous.

Particularly offensive is the first responders bill........as if Republicans don't want them cared for, but the libs kept us out of most of the crafting of the bills and now are stamping their feet like spoiled children to their parents blaming us.

I"m so damned done with this country, I swear...the left's SICK and dangerous and doesn't give a DAMN as long as socialism is the goal...........'gotta give to illegals, got to give to all who ask, gotta run ourselves into the ground to our enemies financially..gotta make Reps like like PARTY OF NO'.
I blame the Republicans for not standing up with what they would need to pass these bills NOW.

Law and Order Teacher said...

Z,
Doing things in a lame-duck session is a bad idea regardless of the shift in power. The in-session congress has essentially been vetoed in this case and yet Reid and Pelosi feel the need to pass major legislation in a take-it-or-leave-it session. Kind of like picking over the leftovers on the cheap table in the mall. Some people feel compelled to buy because it's the last stuff left.

Short of funding the government most legislation can wait and in most cases that can wait. If someone chooses to bring up the tax bill, waiting until now was a result of a resounding thumping to the Dems. Let it expire and pass it retroactively after the first of the year. No hurry.

As for the filibuster, while annoying to the majority, it is necessary to safeguard minority rights. What Madison called the "tyranny of the majority" isn't necessarily conducive to good government.

Jefferson was correct when he said "Democracy is essentially mob rule, where 51% of the people take away the rights of the other 49%."

FrogBurger said...

Good stuff Law and Order.

The left doesn't get that. They're so clueless, they assume everybody must agree with them. And everybody who doesn't is a bad person or is Republican.

The collectivist, herd mindset is so engraved in them they can't look at nuances and shades of grey.

Odd, Dave Miller....I'm watching CSPAN and the House is voting "Allowing bills to be considered with SHORT NOTICE. Members are voting on WAIVING HOUSE RULES TO ALLOW A NUMBER BILLS TO BE CONSIDERED today and thru the rest of this week' I'll be darned....I guess I was right....hmmm

The GOP is not the party of no, it's the party of Hell no. They are opposing everything Obama because he is bent on destroying the country.

There is a two party system in the US so we have checks. It is not intended for the GOP to rubber stamp every idiotic scam the Dems cook up.

I get sick to death of this Democratic party line that the GOP is non-partisan because they do not shut and do as the Democrats tell them to.

FrogBurger said...

This whole bipartisan b/s gets on my nerves.
If we had to be bipartisan for everything, why would we need parties? Let's have a one party rule like in China. That's maybe what those fascists expect.
Sorry to talk this why but it's for girly men like Dave Miller.
I don't expect the Dems to be bipartisan. That's the rule of the game and I won't blame them for not agreeing. I'll blame them for their ideas and RECORD, which is fairly pathetic in the past 2 years. And pathetic across the world as far as lefty ideas.

Ticker said...

As for the First Responders Bill aka HR 4992. If HR 4992 had only contained what became known as the First Responders Bill I do not think there would have been objections raised since it basically requires employers of those first responders to pay for damages and litigation which may be filed against them.
However it contained more such as the amendments thrown in by the Senate
It established a National Domestic Preparedness Consortium within DHS to develop and deliver training to state and local emergency response providers. The consortium consists of the Center for Domestic Preparedness and research and training sites throughout the U.S.

Yet another layer of useless bureaucracy within the useless DHS.

There is where the objections from the Republican Senate stemmed from. It was not the house bill as a stand alone bill but rather the BS added, totaling 7.4 billion dollars by the dems to further establish yet more needless positions as payback or purchase of future votes.
Clinical Centers of Excellence(to be established) what they heck is wrong with a hospital already treating these folks?
WTC Health
Program Steering Committees and the Advisory Committee (more BS useless committees )

ESTABLISHMENT.—The WTC Program
Administrator shall establish an advisory committee to be known as the WTC Health Program Scientific/Technical Advisory Committee.( Where does it stop and this is only page 12.)

WTC SURVIVORS STEERING COMMITTEE.

Now how much of this 7.4 billion dollars would actually do anything other than create more "government".

Read the rest for yourself. I'm about to puke but I am sure Miller will fine it to be AOK in his leftist mind.

Z said...

You know, Ticker, you're so right (So are CHuck and FB, but I'm feeling too sick to address their excellent points separately).....it's usually not THE BILL that the Right says NO to, it's the things associated with it.
But, you just have to know Obama and his thugs are in that WH figuring out how they can make it look like Republicans hate everybody but rich Republicans.
WE know there are more rich Dems, but the country doesn't.
WE know John Kerry's bitching that the rich don't pay higher taxes but HE didn't check off that part of his return saying he'd be sending in extra.
WE know that the poor need feeding but we want to see how that can be done the best and most cost-consciously..

etc etc etc

But, no......"PARTY OF NO" is what the damned Dems are billing us as and nobody on the Right's really giving them 'what for'..which is probably coming in January with the new Congress and is why they're trying to slam through all this legislation.

Imagine passing a bill like my last commented mentioned? It's the "LET'S JAM IT THROUGH BILL"...they're SUCH idiots..they don't even READ the bills, they expect Americans to think they'd written huge bills in days (which were obviously prepared before Obama came in)..etc

I can't even watch the news anymore...I know it's mostly from this pain, but I get weepy just watching what the Left's doing to our country; I almost can't bear it.

FrogBurger said...

Thanks Ticker for the info.
I knew something was going on in the bill.
There should be a constitutional amendment so bills cover one topic only. The ability to package stuff especially earmarks in a bill as a tool to negotiate between parties is a real problem.
That way they would have to agree or not do much, which would force them to really be in the center and vote on important matters where there's some national agreement. And if they don't pass too many laws, good. That way they'll leave us alone.
