OK, Z. You may be going a bit far with the following cut:
"Repeal the Mavis-Beacon Act. More than $1 billion annually."
I object to this on the grounds that these government employees need to know how to type. That's how I learned, and I am sure others learned using that particular typing tutor program.
Bob......I thought you had to be kidding.
This IS a TYPING LESSONS act!!
A BILLION DOLLARS?
I learned in high school free!
OH, man, this is something. What do you want to bet that stayed OFF the new bill and is protected? :-)
None of it is real because it will not take effect for years. The Congress of 2012 will not be bound by what this Congress does. They will approve their own budget.
Z: I was kidding. By the time I got to the bottom of the list, my head was swimming. There were probably a couple of things in there that ought to stay, like the publishing budget. I am sure that includes publishing the Federal Register, which is a complete record of the stuff Congress does. I think.
Oh, the Mavis Beacon typing tutor program is pretty old. It worked for me back in the late 1980's.
Bob, kidding about WHAT? You don't think it's NUTS to spend a billion of your neighbors' dollars so you can type!?
Trestin, that's probably true.
Trestin, I can't get into your blog....? frustrating!
This list should be just a start!
Making a liberal cut worthless government programs is like making a vampire eat a garlic pie.
The Cuts the Republicans proposed
Proposed, being the key word. When I see action taking place THEN and only then I believe ANY of it.
Over the time period they are talking, it's a mere drop in the bucket! I'm not impressed!
There are no "cuts".
To illustrate my point let me just say that I have made steep "cuts" in my own budget. You see I've saved myself a million dollars by opting to not purchase a Bugatti Super Sport next year.
Anyone applauding this debt deal as a win for the American people understands neither economics nor politics.
I agree with all of you.
Some 'deal'.....keep spending; we're outspending each minute more than we can cut, anyway....how awful.
Worth noting:
Of the 61 House members of the Tea Party Caucus, 32 Representatives voted Yay on the debt ceiling deal.
Of the 4 Senate members of the Tea Party Caucus, all 4 voted Nay on the debt ceiling bill.
I can't help but question Bachmann's leadership skills as chair given that the majority of caucus members voted in favor of the bill.
Hi, Soap, I think this has less to do with her chairing skills and more to do with favors. How many times can she say "Are you NUTS? You don't RAISE limits when you can't pay yourself out of what we owe already!"
Time for term limits...
OK. Time to 'fess up. When I looked over the long list of things that might be repealed, I had no clue what some are. The Davis-Bacon Act just jumped out at me, and I did my normal smart-ass thing of trying to make a joke out of it,. I changed it to the Mavis-Beacon Act. Bad joke.
Since then, I did look up the The Davis Bacon Act and am not sure of the value of the law, and do not understand a $Billion spent on its behalf.
It would be nice if I had time to research all this stuff.
