Drunken sailors......US?

Does THIS INFORMATION we're being good world citizens or "Drunken Sailors?" When Sailors are dead broke and their families are suffering, do they give money to their neighbor?  I'm not sure where I fall on this, but I think I know.   How about you? It's probably a very NICE thing of America to do;  is it WISE?

ALL foreign aid, excepting that to Israel should end until our financial house is in order.

You can't give away what you don't have, and you shouldn't give to 'charity' by borrowing.

In essence, foreign aid is coming from China and being funneled through the US.

95 million isn't even tip money.

... of course the Christian thing to do is let them starve. Culture of life and all.

Brooke, "you can't give away what you don't have"...
There's even Christian Scripture which alludes to not putting yourself in jeopardy.

Ducky, this is an example: we give much more than $95 million. "tip money?" Tell that to starving American waitresses and their children.

They say the G_d protects little children and drunken sailors. We'll see....

Whereas the "wise" thing to do is to let them experience the full "tragedy of the commons", and them get THEM to buy into the myth of the good "administrators of the commons", eh, duckmeister! That way YOU can put your hand in their pocket and rob them before they bite the big one.

After nursing them to health, we should arm them and send them back in as a rebel force to clean out the bad guys.

Brooke nailed it.

Recently Putin has taken to calling the US a parasite. We need to cut off aid to Russia and see if the bastard has a different take on things.

This morning, we're hearing that we send gazillions to China for internet, high speed trains and schools, etc etc.
So, we borrow money from them, bring it back here, pay interest on it, and then give it back to them.

An 'expert' on US/China relations at USC insists this gives the Chinese people respect and gratitude to Americans....
as if most CHinese know who's paying for their goodies?
something is clearly broken.

We are broke and broken. It looks like the Tea Party view is the only sane view in Congress, unlike the terrorist hostage takers analogy they like to use.
I guess sanity is so yesterday in American Politics today.

Utterly ridiculous. If the US continues down this road and becomes a destitute country herself, how much worse will it be for those countries we aid now?

btw - duckmeister, how much money have YOU sent to Somalia?

World Vision International, founded in the USA in 1977, is an evangelical relief and development umbrella organization whose stated goal is "to follow our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in working with the poor and oppressed to promote human transformation, seek justice and bear witness to the good news of the Kingdom of God." World Vision is one of the largest relief and development organizations in the world with a total revenue including grants, product and foreign donations of $2.6 billion (2008).

How much do you think "Catholic Charities" has sent?

The USA will spend $42b in foreign assistance in 2012. Most of that will be in weapons and ammunition.

Stop sending Somalia MY money, you cheap b*stard! Send your OWN!

The problem with foreign aid is, it seldom trickles down to the people.

I'm having an attack of de ja vu. The last time we went into Somalia to "help" the starving people,
we had the Blackhawk Down tragedy.

We went there to oversee our contribution to the people, and ended up watching as our troops' dead naked bodies were dragged through the streets.

So, while I feel for those poor people, I also believe that money will not be used for their welfare, and I think our presence, if it's sent, could end the same way it did before.

105 million to Southern Sudan or Somalia, what ever they call themselves these days, and we are broke! Let the Chinese feed em since they are the ones who created this mess to begin with . They wanted the oil, and got it.

There's one thing I know for sure, we simply cannot afford to be the world's piggy bank.

I agree with Brooke, the only nation that I feel deserves and needs our financial aid is Israel.

Heck, I'm tired of taxpayer money going into useless ventures like the state of Massachussetts. Don't get me started on the other foreign aid we give out.

BEAMISH, you are HILARIOUS! "Heck, I'm tired of taxpayer money going into useless ventures like the state of Massachussetts. Don't get me started on the other foreign aid we give out."

Amen to that! :-)

Another thing to point out regarding the absurdity of Ducky's comment...

The Fed forcibly takes our money and distributes it at a loss to whomever they want.

CHRISTIANS already have a lot of REAL charity both here at home and overseas.

It's definitely a good point. Not only do drunken sailor stop spending when they're out of money, they also spend their own money, they don't borrow money from someone else and leave the tab with someone elses children.

Drunken sailors would be a world apart from the current buffoon pretending to be a responsible leader.

So my apologies to sailors the world over, drunk and sober.

There is too much money going out of our pockets for so precious little in return. I'm with Brooke.
