Peter Kreeft ROCKS

I know this guy's writing isn't for everybody, but I wanted to highly recommend PETER KREEFT.   I was sub'ing a high school class recently and had them reading aloud from SOCRATES MEETS SARTRE.  It astonished me in its scholarship and clever way of showing the philosophies of both Socrates and Sartre;  educational, accessible, astonishingly good book.  Other books (listed under the link) are Socrates Meets Jesus, Socrates Meets Hume, etc.     He's also got excellent works covering CS Lewis, Philosophy,  God, Heaven, and SURFING, of all things!?

Anyway, in case you're interested...I'd definitely give this guy a try.

Peter Kreeft is a wonderful author and a brilliant man.

I highly recommend Summa of the Summa (his explanation of Thomas Aquinas' Summa Theologica), and Everything You Ever Wanted to know about Heaven but never Dreamed of Asking.

Both excellent books, but I admit I was too dense to even understand his Summa book. I did greatly enjoy his book on heaven. His explanation of how heaven in outside of time and space was a great revelation to me.

Peter Kreeft on page 1 gets a massive fail for not even understanding Sartre's use of absurd .

Silverfiddle, I'm glad you agree.
Large and compelling body of work, for sure. it takes a lot of brain to do what he does with Socrates and...

Ducky, well, then let's write him off because he doesn't agree with you :-)'

Despite being a Marxist, Sartre at least recognized that Marxism objectifies the individual.

SOCRATES MEETS SARTRE

I wonder where they could have met. I mean we know Socrates to be in the first circle of Hell - Limbo - on the authority of Dante, along with such virtuous pagans as Homer, Horace, Ovid, Plato and il maestro di color che sanno, i.e., Aristotle. For this reason that, though virtuous, they were not born in faith, i.e., were unbaptized. But what about Sartre? He had been shown the light; so either he sinned against it (i.e., refused to see it) and should be in Hell proper, or he saw it and should be in Heaven. Neither way he should be in Limbo. Perplexing. ;)

It seems Mr. Kreeft did anticipate my query, ma'am, for as i just saw the 1st chapter of Socrates Meets Sartre is entitled "In Hell?" ;)

No don't write him off but I've heard him speak at Boston College and he takes on much more than he could possibly understand in depth.

Comes up short.

Not exactly, Kapital does the objectifying.

actually, he doesn't come up short at all; he's greatly admired and brilliant.
Sorry you didn't like it.

nicrap..enjoy. Yes, that's true.

Well you can argue that with Sartre, he was more a fan of Mao. Right duhKKKy no objectifying in Communism, the worker is merely a TOOL of the state.

It's why all the workers of the world have thrown off the shackles of capitalism and traded it for the freedom that communism promises. LOL!
