Television announcers are always talking about “red states” and “blue states.” We all seem to identify the color red with the GOP, and blue with the DNC. But this is a new phenomenon. Traditionally, those colors were reversed to coincide with the European association of red with Marxist, leftist, fascist parties and organizations, and blue with conservative, right-wing parties and organizations.
This changed in the year 2000 … when for some unexplained reason, the “media” decided that red would look better on Republicans, and blue would look better on Democrats. We can’t imagine how they came up with that idea, unless there is some hidden agenda somewhere. But no, that would be impossible with our impartial media, wouldn’t it?
Political parties have never indicated a preference, and the year 2000 wasn’t the first time colors were used to denote political parties. Televised media never considered white because it doesn’t show up as well on color television sets. As for the term red vs. blue states, Tim Russert first used this term in the 2000 general elections.
Does any of this matter to Geeez readers? Imagine? Liberals=Progressives=Socialist agenda=RED? :-) Ain't our media just DANDY? : -)

I remember when this color scheme began. At the time, I thought to myself, "Well, that's backwards."
Not only does the color red have Marxist connotations, but the color blue has the connotation of "true blue."
Wondered about that.
First discussion I've heard of it though, so I thought it was just me.
Clearly a plot to mask the Communist takeover.
The word for the day, kids is "trite".
Yes, Ducky, it is true: you are pedestrian. And to this, I will even add boring.
Sometimes, little things are important. Colors are important. If this were not true, then yellow ribbons wrapped around oak trees would have no significance --or pink ribbons, white crosses, and purple robes. Colors are important because people associate them with other meanings, such as red for communist scum, like Ducky, and as AOW suggested, “True Blue.”
And who better to control what people think or how they make their associations than the leftist media?
In Canada there are "Red Tory's" and "Blue Tory's" that represent a split within the "High Tory" party tradition rubric. I think that it may have been colour inverted in America (as red traditionally is the colour for "rebellion" and blue for "loyalty"), but still more accurately explains American politics to a foreign audience... as both Democrats (until Obama) AND Republicans were more ideologically akin to British/Canadian "Tory's" than represented by the harder and farther Left-Right Labour-Tory split
Red is OK with me, frankly. Red is considered a lucky color in China, and throughout much of the world for that matter.
And like everything else, things change. Remember when 'gay' meant something different back in the day, as mentioned in the lyrics of 'The Flintstones' title sequence?
And when 'bad' meant bad? And 'sick' meant sick?
But yes, the pinkos who control the MSM did this switcheroo of red and blue to try and swing public perception towards the pinko way of thinking. It didn't work, though.
I agree. The democrat party, shameless and open home to neo-socialism, should be red, and the GOP should be blue.
Yes it matters, It’s time to give Romney a chance, voting for a Marxist like Obama is sickening , pure & simple. This president is a threat to the America we all knew and loved.
Ducky-Wacky, go see the movie,'2016: Obama's America' find out the real truth about your hero. Find out what ABC, CBS, NBC. CNN never told you about Obama & his mentors. And they have the nerve these days to *try* & smear Romney being a Mormon !!!! LOL, LOL ABC, as IF someones religion is an issue in this day & age. How convenient that the sycophants totally buried Rev Wright the US hater but people are supposed to worry & carry on about a Mormon. Better a US Mormon than an Indonesian Muslim or atheist, take your pick. I guess Obama has to be an atheist, supporting partial birth abortion the way he does, he voted for it 3 times as i recall. His half bro George is cool though, worth seeing the movie just for that.
A wise man once told me when I was a young man that "You don't know what you don't know" Think about it.
I've always wondered about that.
Blue states must because they're a bunch of intellectual smurfs.
Interesting! I hadb't realized that there had been a change. Maybe it is another case of "projection".
And, of course, the WHOLE POINT is the ploy by the left to move themselves into a better light..why change? :-)
It's obvious to most of us..
Hard to see others who just can't allow themselves to think of nuance and different perspectives.
I thought of TRUE BLUE, too...I agree with that, but RED as a color for Communism is the point, isn't it.
They CHANGED THE COLOR? It's such a metaphor for SO MUCH and I'm so glad Mustang helped most of us realize that...with all its implications.
In France the Socialist Party switched from red to rose. It's very girly.
I didn't like the change when it happened because I preferred being blue. I've had 12 years to get used to it and I still don't like it but feel we have more important battles to worry about than a color scheme.
Z - I don't think of 'red' in a negative way. When I would get the two confused I just thought of 'red' for Republicans - r/r
and then the other color - blue - was naturally for the other party.
Simpler that way for me.
There's enough negative thoughts going around without this too.
Don't you think?
Sue, but the point is WHY?
Red's a favorite color of MINE, but you don't see a problem with WHY it was changed by the MEDIA?
Ya, I think the WHY is a problem, and metaphorical for a LOT of the lies. (see my newest post!)
have a good day.
When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker a raving lunatic. ~Dresden James

I'm sure they did...
Now either accept my rose...or I'll bust your head!
Sorry, topic not worth a comment, IMHO.
