Happy Mother's Day...and here's the history of it, too!

Couldn't resist a little humor on this special day. I hope all you mothers enjoy yourselves this weekend!
(and thanks, to whoever came up with these!)
If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.
2. I'd make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

What did mom need to know about dad before she married him?
1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?
Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?
1. We're related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me.

Why did God make mothers?
1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.
Here is the history of Mother's Day, which just reached it's 100th Anniversary!:

Z isn't one, either, Incognito, but I do have stepkids in Europe..God is good, take that any way you like and it works, come to think of it!

No, TMW, Grandmothers would have a hard time being grand without a mother.....boy, could we go 'chicken or the egg' a few rounds on THAT one!

I just hope all moms everywhere, who've done the best they could/knew how, are acknowledged as they should be.

I'm having MOm and two sister-moms and their families tomorrow.

It's the least we can do here...cook, cook, bake, cook, bake, cook, chop, bake......SEE YOU LATER!

are we supposed to answer these?

i'd've certainly had my mother born a conservative, bless her little shriveled up 72 year old radical leftard heart!

bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahaha!

my mom will be in minnesota this next month - can't say i really miss her - i thank God she had me, but in all truth, she probably should never have had children x 6 as she's fond of telling whoever will listen! sure hope i'm never called to give her eulogy...eeeeek!

have a great day, z!

Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms here.

Z, The first No. 3 on your post reminds me of the time my son (then 3 yrs. old), asked me how I always knew when he was doing something wrong. I told him "I have eyes in the back of my head". He reached and separated my hair to check.

He said "I don't see them". I told him I only used them when I needed them. He seemed to be satisfied with that answer. The little rascal.

It was only years later when I reminded him of that, when I told him, I knew he was doing something he shouldn't when he was unusually quiet. He was not the quiet type.

I would call to him "what are you doing"? He would call back "nothing". It was the "nothing" that got me moving.
Ha, Ha.

Thanks Z, for jogging my memory. Those were indeed sweet days. Today my children are adults, and we share some laughs over those memories.

nanc, I'm stunned. YOu have a healthy, good confidence I admire..not easy with a Mom such as you describe. I'm glad she had you, too!

Priscilla, your stories are always so poignant and nice, thanks. If you have more, bring 'em along! And boy, do you make GOOD LOOKIN' kids!!!

xx

Happy Mother's day, Z!!! My mother tells the story of my older sister who use to cover her eyes when she would steal a cookie because she thought if she couldn't see you then you automatically couldn't see her.

"M" is for the million things she gave me,
"O" means only that she's growing old,
"T" is for the tears she shed to save me,
"H" is for her heart of purest gold;
"E" is for her eyes, with love-light shining,
"R" means right, and right she'll always be,

Put them all together, they spell "MOTHER,"
A word that means the world to me.

I just learned that this song was written in 1915 by HOWARD JOHNSON. Haven't yet found it if it was THE Howard Johnson or not. Anyone know?

Cute post, Z. I didn't realize it is 100 years old now.

Enjoy your day with the women in your life.

A wry twist on motherhood from Dorothy Parker:

Fulfillment

For this my mother wrapped me warm,
And called me home against the storm,
And coaxed my infant nights to quiet,
And gave me roughage in my diet,
And tucked me in my bed at eight,
And clipped my hair, and marked my weight,
And watched me as I sat and stood:
That I might grow to womanhood
To hear a whistle and drop my wits
And break my heart to clattering bits.

"Honor thy father AND thy mother."

He didn't say, "Unless they happen to be liberal," did He?

Aren't we supposed to love EVERYONE?

He didn't say "Only if they DESERVE our love," I don't believe.

This is not a rebuke; it's only an observation.

Hope all you mothers out there are enjoying this special day in a very special way.

FT? Sounds to me like nanc had a LITTLE more problem with her mother than the fact that she was a liberal, doesn't it!?
Nice that you're going so closely to His words, though!! We all should.

Berty, thanks, and good to have you here!

SAM...oui! Monsieur Johnny parles le francaise pas mal!!

Well, Z, it must be said:

Some people have mothers that are really MUTHAHS.

Ain't no doubt about that. ;-)
