I found America!

America's always at the ballpark, right!? Whew!, I was wondering where she'd gone. Somehow, this works with the wonderful Defiant Infidel blog, too...........please read it, you won't be sorry! (This is Nationals Park, Washington DC, by the way....a photo from my friend Rich Galen's column!) z

Hi Z, You knew I'd chime in on this one. For me, Spring begins when Spring training begins for baseball.

And of course opening day, as depicted in the photo, is a new season full of hopes and promise, that our team will go all the way to the World Series.

Of course THE team is the Dodgers. My team, all my life. I was born in Brooklyn NY. My parents lived two blocks away from Ebbets Field. How could I not be a Dodger fan. I was born one.

My family came to California when I was four years old, and a few years later, the Dodgers followed us here, and my Dad thought he had died and gone to heaven.

Ever since, when I hear Vin Scully's voice, that first game of the year, I think, baseball's here, and Vinnie IS the Dodgers. Players come and go, but Vinnie remained.

There's talk that this is his last year, and I am sad. Nothing lasts forever, I know, but this is another familiar part of my life that will go the way of all good things.

However, Dodger baseball will remain, and it's that time of year when Vin Scully says, "It's time for Dodger baseball".

Play ball!

My 9 year old daughter is getting 2 free tickets to the local minor league team for a reading club she did. Great gift from them to encourage kids to read. I was going to buy extra tickets for all of us but I think we're going to go by our selves for a little father-daughter time. Should be great.

Your picture reminds me of my middle son playing football. What always choked my wife up was seeing all of these 8th graders standing there at attention holding their helmets while the anthem played.

Ah, baseball.

If only the Reds would stop sucking. We shall see. ;)

Baseball is a place where Liberals and Conservatives can actually come together in peace, united rooting for their home team, and for once all of us are American all over again.

Pris, being a big Dodger fan myself (tho basketball is more my fave), I LOVE Vinnie's voice; I always say it was the 'soundtrack of my childhood summers' because my dad was a huge fan of about every sport..
Glad you enjoy it so much! Go, Dodgers!

Chuck, wonderful; nothing like a little girl spending time with her dad.
As for your wife, don't tell her I heard today a guy saying, very dismissively in his radio coverage of the Tea Parties, that "I EVEN SAW a guy take his little kid's cap off when the allegiance was 'pled' as if that was an important thing to do.." I kid you not. It sounded like it totally disgusted him..imagine? (when the allegiance was PLED?)

Brooke..good luck, and thanks for coming by with your busy schedule.

Steve..good point

I love baseball!

Must be in my blood.

Years ago, the a scout from the Yankees offered my Dad a job as "control pitcher." Dad refused the job as he needed to stay home and take care of his ailing father; also, Dad didn't like traveling. Pity, really. Dad could have made a bundle.

But "back in the day," Dad did get to pal around with Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb when they came to the Baltimore/D.C. area. He had some tales to tell!

This is repulsive Z. We go to high school football and basketball games with our kids. My 2 boys will go off with their friends (9th and 10th grade). I'll look over and they are standing there with their friends during the anthem facing the flag, them and their friends have their hands on their heart. No adults with them. The test of character is what you do when you think no one is watching. I am proud of them.

ALWAYS!!?? Your Dad PALLED AROUND with Cobb and RUTH? Holy SMOKE!

It's no biggie, but my uncle Eddie saw Lou Gehrig tell everyone at Yankee stadium 'goodbye'...BUT your dad KNEW THESE GUYS!? Fantastic!!

Chuck, isn't that something?
I'm SO not surprised your kids are like that..God bless you and Mrs. Chuck. Thanks for making good Americans. "Their hands on their hearts" at that age...I can't even imagine that. how wonderful.

I don't know what it is about baseball, Z, that just seems American to the core! I enjoy Football, especially the SEC in college sports (Go 'Cocks, Dawgs & Roll Tide!!!) but Major League Baseball is just in a class by itself! Thanks for sharing this, it is refreshing. God Bless. (Go Red Sox & Reds!)
