Sunday Faith Blog...this week it's PRAISE SONGS!

In 'UnGodly" Germany....the churches take to the Bavarian streets....so sweet, so pure

Last week, we did HYMNS. This week, let's list our favorite PRAISE SONGS! Include YouTube links if you can....Today is Palm Sunday....

Mark 11:9-10
9Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted,
"Hossanah!"
"Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!"
10"Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!"
"Hosanna in the highest!"

Glory be to God...have a fabulous Sunday, everybody! (and leave a favorite praise song, don't forget!)

I guess that I'm not into "praise songs," as they are defined today. I'm into the traditional liturgy.

Anyway, of that genre I'm partial to "O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing," "All Creatures of Our God and King" (Lasst Uns Erfreuen with Alleluias), and "Holy, Holy, Holy!"

The Passion of Our Lord

Lord Jesus Christ has come to town
a riding on a donkey
The Romans saw a challenge
tried of Him to make a monkey.

Hail! King Jesus of the Jews
riding on a burro
Shout hosannas loud today
then crucify tomorrow.

Jesus took His followers
into the Upper Room
He fed them on His body and blood
and told them of His doom.

Then to Dark Gethsemane
a praying in the garden
Begging of Hid father
from His bitter cup to pardon.

Peter, faithless, thrice denied
that His Lord he kneweth
Judas kissed Him in betrayal
evil from him speweth.

“Hail, King Jesus of the Jews!”
shouted in derision
Drag your cross to Golgotha
that is the crowd’s decision.

Then they crowned Him cruelly
with strands of pyrocanthus,
Nailed Him to the dogwood tress
which broke His feet and hands thus.

Gentle Jesus , meek and mild,
only said, “Forgive them”
Of the crowd and soldiers wild’
who knew not He’d outlive them.

After tortures barbarous
He said, “I have a thrist.”
They only gave Him vinegar
which really was the worst.

Gentle Jesus, meek and mild,
then gave up the Ghost
Broken and defamed, reviled
just like Friar’s Roast!

Then, they laid Him in a tomb
with all the Marys weeping
She who bore him in her womb
thought He’d be always sleeping.

But, He showed them three days hence
when He was resurrected
That the worst developments
by faith can be corrected.

PS: The tune --- in case it didn't come to you --- is Yankee Doddle. Cool, huh?

I love praise songs but more so the traditional hymns. I'll have to check with my husband since he goes to the service that has a praise band. I'll see if I can come up with something.

As The Deer

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after Thee
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee

(Chorus)
You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee

You're my friend and You are my brother
Even though You are a king
I love You more than any other
So much more than anything

Chorus

I want You more than gold or silver
Only You can satisfy
You alone are the real joy giver
And the apple of my eye

Pops..you've got your nerve coming here and talking about deer (smile, you know what I'm talking about!!! HAAA! SHOOT at the white of their butts! hee hee!)
Seriously, though..gorgeous lyrics, thank you.

FT...not TOO hot on the Yankee Doodle melody for those words, but it's kinda cute! It might be fun to teach little ones with the melody, just a few less verses!??

Sue, I'd love that.

Today, we had no REALLY moving ones, I was disappointed (again)...but we DID do LAMB OF GOD, which I love...and the choir did a wonderful job. I just wish they'd use DYNAMICS!
Does anybody else find that true?
No matter how small or 'less than stellar' any musical group is, one can get by with DYNAMICS..LOUD...soft....people are moved by that more than beautiful sounds...and, as I used to say during my tenure as choir director/organ player (I don't dare say organIST because I'd be lying!) "DYNAMICS give you bang fo the buck when we can't wow them with singing talent!"

But, a nice service was had by all.
I hope you all had a nice morning, too.

There is a Redeemer -- Keith Green

There is a redeemer,
Jesus, God's own son,
Precious lamb of God, Messiah,
Holy one,

Jesus my redeemer,
Name above all names,
Precious lamb of God, Messiah,
Oh, for sinners slain.

Thank you oh my father,
For giving us your son,
And leaving your spirit,
'til the work on earth is done.

When I stand in glory,
I will see his face,
And there I'll serve my king forever,
In that holy place.

Thank you oh my father,
For giving us your son,
And leaving your spirit,
'til the work on earth is done.

There is a redeemer,
Jesus, God's own son,
Precious lamb of God, Messiah,
Holy one,

Thank you oh my father,
For giving us your son,
And leaving your spirit,
'til the work on earth is done.

And leaving your spirit,
'till the work on earth is done.

I JUST had this sent to me in an email...amazing!
For anybody with a grey hair here or there (I refuse to admit a THING!!)

JESUS LOVES ME

Jesus loves me, this I know,
Though my hair is white as snow
Though my sight is growing dim,
Still He bids me trust in Him.
(CHORUS)YES, JESUS LOVES ME..
YES, JESUS LOVES ME..
YES, JESUS LOVES ME,
FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO.

Though my steps are oh, so slow,
With my hand in His I'll go
On through life, let come what may,
He'll be there to lead the way.
(CHORUS)

When the nights are dark and long,
In my heart He puts a song..
Telling me in words so clear,
"Have no fear, for I am near."
(CHORUS)

When my work on earth is done,
And life's victories have been won.
He will take me home above,
Then I'll understand His love.(CHORUS)

I love Jesus, does He know?
Have I ever told Him so?
Jesus loves to hear me say,
That I love Him every day.
(CHORUS)

My husband couldn't think of the names of any praise song, I called my daughter, they couldn't help, so I got this on google. This is definitely one of my favorites.

As you know praise songs are very repetitive. At our church they put the words on a big screen above the alter. This is by Michael W. Smith.

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see you.

To see you high and lifted up
Shinin' in the light of your glory
Pour out your power and love
As we sing Holy, holy, holy

Holy holy holy
We cry holy holy holy
You are holy holy holy
I want to see you.

Pris took mine, but I will say it again anyway! The Hallelujah Chorus cannot be improved upon!! Praise God!

"Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing." (Rev.5:12)

May I also add "Worthy is the Lamb" & "Finally Home" by Don Wyrtzen. Speaking of Don Wyrtzen, his group, the Don Wyrtzen Singers do a wonderful praise song based on Romans 11:33-36 titled "To Him Be The Glory Forever!" Magnificent!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aww Z,
Jesus Loves Me belongs to the children. I used to sing it to my kids, and my grandson. My mother sang it to me when I was a child:

Jesus loves me, this I know
For the Bible tells me so
Little ones to Him belong
I am weak and He is strong

Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
Yes Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so

Z- I am always moved by the song, "You Raise Me Up," particularly when it is sung by Josh Groban. I actually made and posted a video with that song at our DI site today (Palm Sunday), because it not only reminds me of the Glory of God, it also reminds me to appreciate all of the many gifts, and the many people, that God has bestowed upon my life. ("You raise me up so I can stand on mountains. You raise me up to walk on stormy seas. I am strong when I am on your shoulders. You raise me up, to more than I can be." ) Blessings!

I love Jesus
And He loves me
We're as Happy
As two can be

He walks with me
In the garden
All my sins
He will surely pardon.

I love Jesus
With love so fine
Sweet Salvation
Will e'er be mine

'Cause He alone
Can forgive me
And Love, Divine
Is ever mine.

"Praise Songs" drove me OUT of the church --- once and for all.

What's next? HipHop your way up to the Communion rail?

The Highest deserves to be worshipped in as high and glorious a manner that's possible.

Jesus Christ AIN'T just one of the folks, folks. He is GOD, and church should be about HIM --- not about "US."

Campfire songs and the like just don't cut it in CHURCH --- no matter how entertaining and pleasing some might find them.

Church is supposed to raise us UP. It is NOT supposed to come DOWN to OUR level and make us all happy and contented with the way we are.

Church is NOT the corner bar, the country club, a fraternity, a sorority or a Community Service Organization.

FT - Songs of praise are repeatedly noted within the bible.

Psalm 69:30-31 "I will praise the name of God with song and magnify Him with thanksgiving.."

Pslam 98 “Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth; break forth and sing for joy and sing praises. Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody.

Psalm 95 "Let us sing for joy to the Lord..."

Ephesians 5:18-19 “…be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord.”

You surely have the right to dislike that message- but I would not be so bold as to question the Messenger.
