Ann Coulter and Matt Lauer (this is really good, but please go down below and chime in on the presidential photo, too! FUN!)

Check out how Matt Lauer calls buyers of Ann's new book GUILTY "Extreme readers.." But, no, the Left doesn't 'hate Conservatives'. She's ascerbic; One observation he makes is an excellent one, and I paraphrase "You make some good points, but your delivery is so caustic that it overcomes the substance." Sound familiar? How many times has Z said this about Ann, Rush, etc. They lose their credibility! BUT.........but........

Of course, that's a perfect smokescreen for the Left, isn't it? Instead of addressing all the substance, as Ann had obviously begged him to do, he harped on her style. Matt, when WILL you learn?

You've got to hand it to Ann. She seemed nervous but she's courageous!

What Ann and Rush do is put their points over in a very sarcastic/comedic tone, this is what makes them popular, they are funny and they make us laugh, the left does not get the joke and they just take it as them being mean blowhards.

Z said...

But, Misfit, then Americans don't get their message. Ya, WE do, because we're open to it and we put up with the sarcasm and comedy, but mostly the Left just writes her off, Rush, too, because they're so ascerbic.

of course, they never write off a creep like Franken, right?

But, still.......they're popular enough now that they should be a TAD bit more insistent and clear in their views. We NEED TO GET THE MESSAGES OUT THERE, RIGHT!?

It is amazing how Laur does not respond to anything she says. The left has zero sense of humor

If only she makes it on the Daily Show or that other Leftist news source, The Colbert Report.

Please, please, please......

Hey, Deaner..Colmes is cohosting with Colbert starting very soon....off Hannity &.......

I can't imagine Hannity being better alone because the show had a good argue-factor, no matter HOW much we thought Colmes was a ghoul!

You gotta love Anne Coulter! She is extremely intelligent and doesn't pull any punches. I loved the interview.

Hey Z,

Hmmm..... let me think for a sec.

Nope. I won't miss Colmes.

I enjoyed that. I thought Coulter was very funny in that. Lauer looked like he had shaken baby syndrome.

Z, you nailed it.

Ann and Rush are too caustic, but Franken and the SNL crew are fun-ny?

Double standard alert...

The problem I have with Ann is not with her stance on issues, because I agree with her one hundred percent. Its the way she attacks character even when character attacking isn't necessary to get her point across, and then pretends its the Christian thing to do. But her job is to sell books, and her comedy does just that.

Rush and Ann have perfected their respective acts. They are pulling everyone's leg and a lot of people just can't see the joke. Operation Chaos. C'mon, please tell me the only people who bought that were the Dems. They are laughing at everyone all the way to the bank.

With all due respect and civility -
Ann Coulter is a 'b' and Rush is a blowhard.

shucks the vid wont play..be back later!!..hugs!

Sue's right. The trouble is, Coulter and Limbaugh are also almost always RIGHT.

Why won't Laur go after a liberal like that? What a hypocrite.

Ann was great. If the interview lacked in any way, it was the interviewer.

I will be buying her new book.

Anonymous said...

What I really like, is the political incorrectness of it all. I think people do get it. Ann's message is out there for all to hear.

She just found a way to market it.

The thing is, interviewers like Laur or Couric, can't make her defensive, which is what they're trying to do.

She's unapologetic, and gutsy, and that's what the left really hates, they can't deliver that knock out punch. I love it.

The "substance" of (m)Ann Coulter?

Are you serious?

Z, I caught the exchange between you and Misfit at the beginning. I've gotta say that I am right squarely on the fence between you two. I think Rush and Ann do turn off the general audience with their demeanor but at the same time I also think it is irrelevant. It ultimately is the message they are attacking. We could have the Vienna boys Choir singing their message and the left would attack them. The left is going to attack no matter what. What they do accomplish is that they keep the right fired up. Also, they may draw fire away from some on the right, maybe give them some cover?

I thought the video was great. I thought Ann hung with Lauer and Lauer really had nothing to fall back on than to attack her style. Every time he attempted to argue an idea, she cut him down. Good interview.

Z said...

Ducky: does it scare you that much that you don't see it? WOW
Do you work for the media? :-)

Chuck...she was nervous comparatively...Yes, she stayed on message, that was terrific, but her little "Thank yous" etc, and "Oh, GOOD!"s were a little more than she usually does.
But, no matter; she fought him hard and righteously. It was impressive especially on how he kept trying to make her look stupid regarding having being canceled "We were going to reschedule anyway" and she said "Not until Drudge covered this did I hear again from you" Bullseye.

Didn't you love being called an "extremist"? You're an EXTREMIST READER if you're not on Lauer's side. sad.

Ducky's here said...

Well, z, I suppose Coulter does scare me after a fashion.

Obama is on the tube telling the nation to pass another bailout plan when it hasn't been adequately debated and a variety of economists are lukewarm about it yet the right busies itself listening to a moronic, bulimic harpy.

Oh, the right scares me. Primarily their ignorance.

I just watched the video. I didn't think anything he quoted was too caustic. I thought he was very rude, interrupting her all the time, and she was very quick and apt as usual.

She has a good interview on the Fox web page.

WOO HOO! I finally got to see the film clip.

Ann certainly LOOKS like a million dollars. What a perfect color for her!

Unfortunately, while I agree that Lauer is a hostile SOB who does a bad job of hiding it, Ann does sound a little whiny, a tad too defensive and MUCH too EARNEST.

I mean she ought to treat a creature like Lauer with cool, disdain, look at him bemusedly while he makes an ass of himself trying to force a stupid controversy to eat up the interview. He skillfully avoided talking about the QUALITY and SUBSTANCE of Ann's BOOK --- or LACK thereof --- and SHE let him get away with it.

Lauer never really addressed the BOOK, and she rose and took the bait.

Too bad!

I know, she did try to change the subject several times, but in treating Lauer as though he DESERVED to hear her try to JUSTIFY herself gave him an unwarranted advantage.

Poor tactics!

The best defense is a good attack.

As I said somewhere else, Ann is a much better writer than she is a TV personality.

Also, Ann has a similar problem to that of Tammy Bruce. The quality of her VOICE is unfortunately tinny and abrasive --- not as bad a Hellary, of course, but it's getting there.

To give the Devil his due, LAUER has a very good, well-trained, well-modulated voice, and that is a GOOD part of the reason he is where he is.

It's also a good reason why B. HUSSEIN OBAMA is where HE is.

Never underestimate the power of a mellifluous, well-modulated voice with cultured overtones.

When it comes to presidents, I, myself, am frankly sick to death of listening to HICKPHONICS.

Both Bill AND George W. sound like CRACKERS to me, and I found it endlessly annoying. Part of being educated USED to include rigorous training in elocution --- i.e. Voice and Diction --- to get RID of regional accents and thick-tongued evidence of ethnicity. How I wish developing that skill was emphasized once again!

Ann, you have a fine mind, and make a stunning appearance, but you have an unfortunate voice --- a voice and MANNER wonderfully made for WRITING. ;-)

Cheerio!

It's interesting how condescending Lauer was able to remain while talking to someone manifestly more intellegent than he. Lauer gives an example of a Coulter statement he feels is outrageous. Coulter defends it. Lauer says no one disagrees with that. Coulter says the statement must not have been so outrageous. Lauer says he was talking about other statements. Coulter asks him why he didn't quote those statements. NICE.

Wasn't Dan Quayle mocked for denouncing Murphy Brown's illegitimate child? (If you're having trouble remembering Dan Quyale, he was also known as J. Danforth Quayle back when it was considered acceptable to refer to a politician by first initial and middle name.) The show being fiction, the illegitimate child existed for no other reason than to validate single motherhood. And now we're supposed to believe that liberals and conservatives were equally concerned about the breakdown of the nuclear family?

What about Lauer's hogwash about the need for unity? How many countries have had elections with one person receiving over 99% of the vote? In how many of those countries would you want to live?

Free Thinkie makes good point about remaining calm so as not to give undue credibility to the opponent. Cheney did so masterfully in VP debate w/ Edwards. It really made Edwards look small, especially when Edward's went out of his way to talk about Cheney's lesbian daughter.

By no means should Ann tone down her rhetoric to be more seeker-friendly. It is interesting that her polemics get her deemed arguably too extreme for network interviews, and Al Franken's polemics get him deemed worthy to steal a Senate election.

Deaner, good to see you on here.

EXCELLENT point about Franken's asinine antics and mouthy propagandizing v. Ann Coulter's rhetoric, TB!

I agree that Ann should NEVER tone down her writing, but despite her good looks, her TV image usually works against her.

Tio, do you know who deaner IS?

Ducky: You said "Obama is on the tube telling the nation to pass another bailout plan when it hasn't been adequately debated and a variety of economists are lukewarm about it yet the right busies itself listening to a moronic, bulimic harpy.

Oh, the right scares me. Primarily their ignorance."

Um. You don't really think Coulter's who we're listening to and not that dope who made his ridiculous GLOOM AND DOOM speech this morning? No, we can multi task, Ducky..no problem.

This stupid idea of probably having to borrow Arab money to pay for the stupidity of GREEN BUILDINGS, etc etc., SO we'll be INDEPENDENT of Arab money is more than I can take. I need a Coulter break. She helps me see how even more terrible this new admin will be for this country and gives me some comic relief with her style and her humor.

FT..THAT IS IT! "TOO EARNEST" That's exactly what I meant when I said I thought she was very nervous...very uptight. TOO EARNEST..as if she needed to please Lauer? Well, she is a human being and she has feelings, too! But, she DID fight him pretty well there in the beginning.

Thanks, Hermit.

CJ...and Elbro...right.

Z said...

Beamish, you DO crack me up..SO big time.

Listen up, everybody:

I spoke to Elmer's Brother on the phone this afternoon, which I do like to do!, and we disagree about Ann and I have to make my point here and see what you think: Elbro feels Ann's never going to get thru to the Left so she and Rush and the like should stay ascerbic, tough, etc...speak their minds. I get that.

I FEEL THIS WAY:

I think Ann particularly should stay tough and witty and funny BUT not say things like "BERNARD GOLDBERG? I don't take advice from ANYONE whose books don't sell as well as mine do" (which she told O'Reilly the other night)..THIS kind of thing helps the Left PILE IT ON and so the centrists who MIGHT be persuaded via her excellent, logical and fact-based information on politics and culture don't hear the substance, just the insult to her STYLE.

YES, STAY TOUGH, Ann...but sound confident, not snotty; brilliant, not hooty...you see?

DO NOT LET THEM ATTACK STYLE. SUBSTANCE THEN GETS BLOCKED OUT...exactly what a group with no facts and no honesty LOVES...

Anonymous said...

You're absolutely right, Z, that Ann should not insult her colleagues --- certainly not the ones like Bernard Goldberg who are on "our" side.

Michael Savage, who tells many unpleasant truths straight from the shoulder without fear or favor, does much the same thing only he's WORSE. He calls Bill O'Reilly "The Leprechaun" and speaks of him with utmost contempt ALL THE TIME. He refers to "Sean VANITY" all the time. He's said horrible things about Bill Bennett calling him "that hypocritical glutton with the gambling addiction." He's referred to "Rush Windbag, the drug addict who made himself go deaf." Etc. etc. etc.

Savage gets SO nasty, SO abrasive, and SO uncharitable I can't stand to listen to him anymore, even though he is SPOT ON about the nature of the political animals who control and misdirect our lives.

There is a verse in the Bible that goes something like this: "Blessed is he that backbiteth not . . ."

If anyone recalls the exact quotation and can quote Book, Chapter and verse, I'd be much obliged if you'd supply the information. I'm sure I at least got the sentiment right.

Have a pleasant, productive, compassionate day.

Her style is what makes her who she is. Like I said playing nice nice with a liberal will not work. I realize part of what she and Rush do is entertainment, BUT Lauer was the one who was the boob in this interview. He hadn't read her book, he misquoted her etc etc. Some journalist, and she picked him apart.

If you try to reach out to a liberal and play all nice they'll just marginalize you, just like they did with Mrs. Palin.

The fact that Ann is smart, funny and intellectually honest bothers the piss out of the left.

I like her style, she should be who she is.

She is nothing like Savage...I can't listen to that guy.

Z said...

FT "Backbiteth" ? I doubt it, but I think you're close..and the sentiment, of course, is a good one! !!

Elbro; the thing is WE MUST REACH CENTRISTS. And, when we give ammo to the Leftists to completely DROWN OUT the good substance of the messages of Coutlers and Rushes, etc., we LOSE. The Left SLAMS the ears shut with "THEIR STYLE IS SO ASCERBIC! WHAT A SHREW! WHAT A DRUG ADDICT!" We do harm to the cause...that's what I think!

Centrists must listen because preaching to the choir got us NOWHERE in this last election!

Okay: Your turn. Convince me, I'm easy!! (heh)

Anonymous said...

Z, if centrists are using her abrasiveness as an excuse to not listen to her, they're just burying their heads in the sand. Anyone with intellectual integrity will listen first and decide later. And as far as using Rush's former addiction to drugs as a reason to not listen to him...well. There are lots of addicted centrists, too.

Z said...

But, Pinky, the media's set most people up to hate her and not even give her the chance!
I hope you're right, that people DO listen, but I think they're content buying into the media stupidity that Republicans are all EVIL and Ann's the Bad Witch of the East....
And Rush is the Wizard who's stood in the way of the Left getting home to Kansas with absolutely no resistance from the Right!!!

I knew I had seen "backbiteth not" in the KJV. It's in Psalm 15, verse 3:

Psalms chapter 15
King James Version

1. [A Psalm of David.] LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?

2. He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.

3.He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.

4. In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.

5 He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.

~ FreeThinke

PS: I just found out that there is an AMERICAN King James Version. What a terrible idea! Of course the KJV we use is NOT the original KJV anyway. I'd love to see a copy of the ORIGINAL KJV. We might have a very hard time reading it, but wouldn't it be interesting? - FT

Z said...

FT!: There IS a 'backbiteth!'?? THAT CRACKS ME UP!!

Ya, I'm with you on KJV. I study with the NIV but the KJV is SO beautiful and it's worth remembering to learn verses with the KJV; so much more touching somehow, isn't it!
