The 10 reasons your Democrat friend voted Democrat.........

10. I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a
gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

9. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

8. I voted Democrat because Freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

7. I voted Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.

6. I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start
driving a Prius.

5. I voted Democrat because I'm not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies through abortion so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

4. I voted Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits.

3. I voted Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the democrats see fit.

2. I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.

I thought I wouldn't publish No. 1, but I am going to:

NO 1. I voted Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my ass it's unlikely that I'll ever have another point of view.

And, I'll just say I only published that No. 1 as an example of Conservatives going too far.....I mean, I AGREE with it, but it puts OFF Independents and thinking Democrats so Conservatives have to STOP THAT if they want to bring Indies and Dems on board..... the rest of the points are right but, who listens when the last one is so insulting? This list and No 10 are perfect examples to make my point that the kind of sentiment in No 1 helps the leftwingers and hurts the country because the truth in the top nine is disregarded as people fixate on the nastiness of No 1...the media would really make a point of deflecting the truth in the other points, dwelling on that one nasty one... as it constantly screeches about the DELIVERY of people like Coulter and Limbaugh because it's easier to gripe about their TONE than their facts/truth..... the last one's not needed, it's offensive and doesn't help. We have to take a higher road WHILE TELLING THE TRUTH and NOT stooping to name calling and insults but just keeping it clever and truthful as in the top 9 of the list. I hope you agree.
Sometimes, it DOES take HONEY!

I voted Democrat because I am in a perpetual state of denial on human nature and think we can fix it, except my own because I'm perfect.

I voted Democrat because I think people who don't deserve their money should pay more taxes, unless I am the one who makes too much money and then I deserve it.

I voted Democrat because I don't like working too much myself and would rather be on Conservative blogs all day long and get subsidized for it. My name is Ducky

Big surprise here, I'm in no way concerned about the independants and their opinions. The bible claims that God prefers us to either be hot or cold but he'll spit out the luke warm. I can appreciate that sentiment.

Keep in mind, only about 20% of the population was in favor of the Revolution against King George. The liberals and/or progressives (whatever) have shown the effectiveness of a vocal minority over a silent majority.

To those that would be offended by blunt truth, get over it. I'm not backing down.

I see your point, but I think that some Obama voters need to hear the unvarnished truth. Reason #1 applies to many democrats I have run across. You can't find a more intolerant bunch if you actively hunt for one.

I agree there are far too many insults and too much SHOUTING coming from BOTH sides. L&R are actually MIRRORING one another. And what does that produce?

A MEXICAN STANDOFF (unconscious pun now fully intended ;-)

Here's some of the political "net wisdom" to which we are often treated. Aside from letting off steam, what GOOD does this kind of thing accomplish -- even if it IS basically true?

••• LET ME SEE IF I GOT THIS RIGHT;

••• IF YOU CROSS THE NORTH KOREAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET 12 YEARS HARD LABOR, OR SHOT.

••• IF YOU CROSS THE IRANIAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU ARE DETAINED INDEFINITELY.

••• IF YOU CROSS THE AFGHAN BORDER ILLEGALLY, YOU GET SHOT.

••• IF YOU CROSS THE SAUDI ARABIAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE JAILED.

••• IF YOU CROSS THE CHINESE BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU MAY NEVER BE HEARD FROM AGAIN.

••• IF YOU CROSS THE VENEZUELAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE BRANDED A SPY AND YOUR FATE WILL BE SEALED.

••• IF YOU CROSS THE CUBAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE THROWN INTO POLITICAL PRISON TO ROT.

••• IF YOU CROSS THE U.S. BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET;

1 - A JOB,

2 - A DRIVERS LICENSE,

3 - SOCIAL SECURITY CARD,

4 - WELFARE,

5 - FOOD STAMPS,

6 - CREDIT CARDS

7 - SUBSIDIZED RENT OR A LOAN TO BUY A HOUSE,

8 - FREE EDUCATION,

9 - FREE HEALTH CARE,

10 - A LOBBYIST IN WASHINGTON

11 - BILLIONS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF PUBLIC DOCUMENTS PRINTED IN YOUR LANGUAGE

12 - AND THE RIGHT TO CARRY YOUR COUNTRY'S FLAG WHILE YOU PROTEST THAT YOU DON'T GET ENOUGH RESPECT

I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE I HAD A FIRM GRASP ON THE SITUATION...

HAD ENOUGH? •••

Is this true? If so does it help to spread it around? What do you think should be DONE about it?

It would be worth tossing a few bombs at the low functionals but it's pretty sad.

What? No "baggers" comment? You're slipping!

I'm no fan of Coulter, and only passingly of Rush, but I'm willing to be nonetheless that either of them could run circles around the average leftist with their eyes closed, particularly the latter.

Ducky, please lecture yourself about facts before lecturing others. Because you never come up with facts when we ask you to *prove* your arguments with something as simple as 1+2=3.

As we say in French, you're like the "mendiant qui se moque de la charite."

Actually that's what the left is all about.

A liberal creed seems to be that DEFENDING ONESELF, ONE'S PROPERTY or ONE'S COUNTRY against an ATTACK of ANY kind is "OFFENSIVE," "INSENSITIVE," "RACIST," "BIGOTED," "INTOLERANT," and anything else that's reprehensible.

But just insulting each other across the widening abyss may be fun, but it doesn't do ANY good.

ENEMETICS produces a deadly dynamic.

UHOH! To ALL of you:

If you think I don't think everybody needs to hear the truth, I misrepresented myself in the post.

My point is that there are ways of saying things which work better than others.
I HATE to take the high road because the left NEVER DOES and our culture's so course nowadays and our media's such liars that they celebrate the low road a lot more...lies and all.

I am not a big Rush or Coulter listener but I've rarely heard either say anything I didn't pretty much agree with. If Rush didn't come off so pompous and Coulter spoke a little less officiously, lots more would listen; not that millions aren't listening now, but.......

Honey works better..even against the LEft. Americans are mostly fair minded people who want to get the truth. They're waking up to the media AND the left in Congress now; stay tuned.

Intelligent people can accomplish so much more when they behave with dignity. Kindness DOES go a long way, and I think it would do many of US a lot of good (on both sides of the aisle) to listen and be kind from time to time.

Maybe I was born in the wrong era...

"If Rush didn't come off so pompous and Coulter spoke a little less officiously"

I care little about...style...which is what they have that you don't like? It's the message...the message they put forth. Half of Rush's style is a put on and self deprecating anyway. Coulter is from Connecticut...they all talk that way. And I'm sure her schooling and lawyering experience add to her style too. I prefer their style to Jon Stewarts, Maher, Keith Oberfurher, Matthews, Pelosi's or Reids monotonous droning monotone...don't you?

"Honey works better..even against the LEft.

Really? Since when? Have I missed them calming down a bit with their hateful rhetoric against 80% of Americans? Has Garafolo? Has Moore? Hell even their buds Castro and Chavez have ramped up the hate. Oh...I forgot all the "honey" Barry ODumbo has heaped upon the Hitler of Iran too.

Really.

I agree with Z about "tone," and more or less said so earlier on this thread and at other times.

I will stick up for Rush, because there would BE no conservative movement to speak of, if he hadn't come on the scene -- what was it -- 20 years ago? -- and said things a HUGE number of people FELT, but didn't dare mention.

Because of the Big Media (another BM!) there was a total BLACKOUT on non-liberal views. I think most of "us" -- if there is an "us" -- felt isolated. Rush -- not Bill Buckley -- was THE force that made it possible for conservatives to come out of the closet, as it were, and proudly state their views.

Ann Coulter is MUCH more appealing, entertaining -- and persuasive -- in her WRITING than she is on TV.

Now that Conservatism has a place at the table after so many years of sitting on the kitchen floor, seminal figures like Rush and Ann now seem "old hat." They've been around a long time. They've done their work, and they're sounding a bit stale and -- let's face it -- it gets ANNOYING, because their repertory hasn't changed.

As I've said many times here and other places, GLENN BECK is harder for me to take than either Rush or Ann -- NOT because of what he says, but again because of the WAY he says it.

Shrill, strident, sarcastic and bombastic just leave you COLD after a while.

In a strange way this works to the "enemy's" advantage.

the Left USED to Scream, Shout, Curse, Violently Disrupt and made a career out of BRUTAL rudeness. NOW their figurehead is smooth, "cool," elegant Obrother.

Shrieking roaring "bomb throwers" like Emma Goldman, Rosa Luxemburg, Jerry Rubin, Abbey Hoffman, H. Rap Brown, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, and snide sarcastic types like Joe Conason and sullen, sour-mouthed Katrina Vanden Heuvel have given way to a counterfeit of the old Ivy League WASP image, but with hardly a WASP in sight, except the useful idiots like FDR and so MANY ex-Flower Children who've been duped and indoctrinated.

The Devil is crafty, subtle and ruthless. He is capable of changing forms and images more easily than most of us can imagine. Remember Satan is the master of Deceit. He delights in inciting Chaos through stoking the flames of Envy, Spite, Malice, and an ever burgeoning sense of Desperation and Despair.

Old Nick can make you hate and fear everything you ever loved and cherished.

"Resist the Devil, and he will flee from you."

His mission is to keep from knowing who are friends really are. You have to admit he's incredibly clever. The Doctor of Divisiveness.

Oh YES, Major, yes indeed.

HOWEVER, when it comes to making "converts," it's rarely effective to jump down everyone's throat with both feet in heavy boots. ;-)

The average person must be SEDUCED. The old "Give 'em Hell" style doesn't work anymore, BECAUSE the Left has steadily undermined RESPECT for AUTHORITY for the past hundred years. Their dirty work was not accomplished over night.

It may take MORE than a hundred years to undo what they have done.

The Golden Age of Pericles was a shining beacon in humanity's progress from the trees, the caves, the Coliseum and the wigwams, but after the glory that was ancient Greece died out, everything went DARK for over FIVE-HUNDRED years.

Like the Stock Market we may be fundamentally on the ascent over the long haul, but there are many "recessions" and "depressions" along the way.

Our ascent has been JAGGED at best, and will likely remain so.

There are more geese in the world than swans, more weeds than flowers. It's just the way it is.

If people could bring themselves to follow Jesus, it would be different, but that's never going to happen -- except a very few here and there.

Maybe that's just the way it's supposed to be? Who knows>

More random examples of "why I'm a democrat" that show why we still have to take the high road:

"The Democrats, in contradistinction to the Republicans, don't want kids to go to bed hungry at night." Howard Dean [who has apparently never met a Republican, certainly not the ones I know and read]

"Democrats embrace science. We believe knowledge is better than ignorance." [too bad that doesn't include knowledge of economics, human nature and the weather]
Syd Gross, columnist Savage Pacer

"They [republicans] don't care about poor people." [Who's that Joy? Folks like me who cancelled Christmas last year just so I could still send a big check to take care of the poor and hurting in this tough economy?] Joy Behar

"I'd cheat to keep those b*st*rds out. That's exactly what they are." Ed Schultz, radio talker on his program to win democrat in Massachusetts.

Yes we can do without the vitriol of Maxine Waters, Keith Olberman and the host of ignorati who pepper (especially) the left's blogs (although I'll admit dem solon Hank "Guam-is-going-to-tip-over-and-capsize" Johnson's performance brought a nice bit of family levity to an otherwise deadly dull committee hearing).

Honey is better.

Jen, they just have to speak in normal tones and with less drama than Rush and Coulter speak with....that's all. Their REAL WORDS speak for themselves.

But, of course, some idiot lefty now will comment "Well, Z....if you think calling 9/11 widows GRANDSTANDING FOR ATTENTION is good, then no wonder you like Coulter!"
I'm so TIRED of things like that..it's stupid and it's unnecessary. Ann was RIGHT, a few of those 9/11 widows proved to be ultra leftwingers against the war and they DID use the 9/11 deaths to promote their ideology, but nobody looks at that, they just SLAM COULTER because "it sounds so meeeean!" GOD.

My GOODNESS, Major...read my post again. STYLE makes indies and Dems STOP LISTENING. Style IS important.

Deborah, good thoughts there..I'm quite sure Joy wouldn't even BELIEVE your Christmas comment....she literally starts TWITCHING when any conservative is even mentioned on THE VIEW. I've watched her look like she's having a breakdown. And, then, of course, they have that dopey Hasselbeck as the token "Conservative"....you can't make this stuff up. They don't have the GUTS to have a REALLY strong, intelligent female conservative..oh, noooo.
I can't watch that show and get upset when I do, but it's important to hear what SO MANY WOMEN are being fed every single day.
Saw you only shortly today, is your hair shorter? I like it! xx

Tio...you have a great way with words.

FT...let's hope some soft speaking, influential Republicans can make some waves...we need them!

Coulter is excellent at pointing out the hypocrisy on the left.

Nastiness and drama sell. People buy it up on both sides. I listen to Michael Savage and it shocks me, even though I may agree with SOME of his ideas. Then I listen to Olbermann and....and I can't believe ANYONE agrees with him!

;-)

Style does matter, Z. The question is: are you trying to profit or change public policy?

Z said...

Jen, you said "Z. The question is: are you trying to profit or change public policy?"

I like Mark Levin the best of all of them.

Ann Coulter is too polite for my tastes.

Anonymous said...

Too bad Mark Levin, who IS brilliant, has a tinny voice made for disseminating his thoughts through the printed word.

I would love Michael Savage, but I do not like the way he constantly denigrates his colleagues while grossly overstating his own merits and qualifications. It's not "burlesque," as it so often is with Rush, it's who Savage is, and frankly it stinks.

Too many cases where the message is GREAT, but the messenger is LOUSY -- for one reason or another.

Liberals can't have a different point of view, because they cannot think for themselves. They are not individuals, they are merely part of the herd.
