You a Lib or a Conservative? Wise words here........

A friend sent me this the other day and I thought I'd share it with you........

If you ever wondered what side of the fence you sit on, this is a great
test!

Lots of truth here!

If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for
everyone.

If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his
situation.
A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.

If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.
(Unless it's a foreign religion, of course!)

If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping
for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.

If a conservative reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a
good laugh.
A liberal will delete it because he's "offended".

GOOD MORNING, SUNSHINE!

Thanks, Z!

I'm reposting this at my site, and I'll link back to you!

Have a good week!

But what about all of the entitlements I am supposed to get. Plus Obama says health care is a right. I can't seem to find that in the Constitution but I will keep looking, he wouldn't have said it if it weren't true.

Actually, I believe I was born conservative. It's not a life-style choice. I was actually raised by liberals. I think this proves a genetic pre-disposition to conservatism. ;)

Me, offended?

You have to be kidding!

I have just about the thickest skin on the planet in that regard.

I am thinking about forming an organization called ACT-responsibility (American Conservatives Taking Responsibility.

It can be modeled after ACT-UP. We can go out and politely have discussions with people who do not agree with us. Get in their faces and calmly explain "I'm conservative and I'm here".

We can have conservative pride parades where we all walk down the middle of the street in an orderly fashion and proclaim our responsibility to be decent people.

Finally the goal of course is to get laws passed were we are recognized as a protected class. We can be guaranteed equal access to jobs and housing. We can be allowed to practice our religion openly.

This will all take time though, it will take a change in societal attitudes towards conservatism. Probably the place to start would be to indoctrinate children in school while they are young to believe that America is good and it is okay to have a wife and children that we teach values to.

We have a long road ahead us on this though.

Might want to drop Palin into the Liberal section then. I seem to recall Mrs. Palin taking great offense to Rahm Emanuel's use of the word retarded during a private meeting wherein Mrs. Palin was not in attendence.

And to be sure, while Coulter certainly does her best to tout herself as a firebrand conservative of the traditional variety, she's little more than a Republican party cheerleader much in the same mold as Hannity.

Good morning! This is very good, Z.

So why do they call themselves "Liberal" again? Does the word now relate to the kind of Liberation the Che would be proud of?

Z said...

TMW, good morning to you! And, no, none of us would be offended by the truth :-)

Linda...thanks for the link and you have a good week, too. I hope to see you around.

Chuck, I LIKE ACT-UP...GO FOR IT!
And, you were raised by liberals?

Always, I didn't write it! And, no, I knew you wouldn't be offended.

Soapbox, why go off on Coulter? You're sounding like a liberal yourself...there IS no perfection but she gets most of it right, as does Hannity. What's bugged you about them? I don't mean for you to do a laundry list of things here, we all have them about both, but at least they're out there against liberal nonsense.
Who's your idea of a Conservative according to your rules?

FW, glad you enjoyed it, too. It's just so true.

FB...indeed.

Great list (and laugh) Z! I'm just not convinced that a liberal would find any offense in this. I imagine most nodding their heads to the affirmitive and believing that the conservative description proves they are "bitter clingers". Maybe a lib did write this?

Lefties have given liberalism a bad name. "Liberal" might imply that they have some kind of appreciation for liberty. But they don't. They're statists.

Ask a "liberal" how much government is too much. They can't give you a straight answer.

"I don't mean for you to do a laundry list of things here, we all have them about both, but at least they're out there against liberal nonsense."

Simply railing against Liberals does not make one a conservative. The both of them lack the objectivity that a true blue conservative would employ in lauding the same complaints against members of their own party. That they might engage in it at this present moment is opportunistic to say the least. As for Coulter, the fact that she called titled one of her books "If Democrats had any brains, they'd be Republicans."

At the time I couldn't help but inquire of Ms. Coulter specifically what kind of Republicans? I further inquired with Ms. Coulter why she didn't title the book "If Democrats had any brains, they'd be Conservatives."

Ms. Coulter, being interviewed around the time of publication was adamant about deflecting from the liberalism within the Republican party at that time and instead resorted to the trivial one trick pony show that is demonizing Democrats (which mind you is certainly not a difficult thing to do).

"Who's your idea of a Conservative according to your rules?"

Amongst politicians, you can narrow it down real quick by taking a look at all the Republicans in both the House and Senate who voted against the Obama Administration's stimulus package but also had the intestinal fortitude to equally vote against the George Bush/Hank Paulsen TARP bailout.

I can tell you this much, it's not many.

DB, I'm glad you liked it, too.
I guess they wouldn't take offense but I think it's important Independents and Moderate Dems see this...one can't help thinking "Man, this is so true, why the heck are the Dems like that?"! One can hope :-)

RK...waiting for Easter pix of your new little girl..got any? :-)
Also, "how much gov't?" Excellent question. I haven't been by lately, you've got a LOT of good stuff there, please forgive me. It was Mr Z's sixth month anniversary and I just haven't rallied too well ...enough for my blog and no energy left to visit much. sorry.

Soapbox, you can't name one?
And, I have to admit that I think Coulter is too acerbic in delivery but she does nail the Dems very well. Problem is, I think her acerbidity (?!) puts people off ...they can slam delivery while ignoring the content.
I'd LOVE to have two or three names from you on REAL CONSERVATIVES. I agree on your definition, by the way.

Cube...I'll go see!! Thanks for coming by.

Soapbox's list of "true conservatives" is spot on.

I wish he'd tell us now who are the "true liberals" in both houses. Could the short answer possibly be "every one else?"

Also, is there such a thing as a conservative Democrat alive and well today, and if so who might he or she be?

We know that many many many Republicans are de facto Liberals. Both the presidents Bush qualified as such, but not quite as liberal as MoveOn.org would want them to be.

If today's most prominent Liberal Democrats are not crypto or de facto Marxists, what do you think they are, and why?

Would JFK qualify as a liberal or a conservative today?

In the realm of plain unvarnished TRUTH is there ANYONE who would or could play the role of "Jefferson Smith" in reality -- or, as george Soros surely believes, does EVERY ONE haver his price?

The rather cutesy twisted little aphorisms that remind us that if the far right had brains they'd take them out and play with them.

Conversation with the far right is impossible.

Just because no one in Congress is pushing for labor camps and gas chambers for Jews does not necessarily mean the left is unrepresented in Congres.

This is so true. It is funny. Whatever happened to "live and let live?"

"I seem to recall Mrs. Palin taking great offense to Rahm Emanuel's use of the word retarded during a private meeting wherein Mrs. Palin was not in attendence."

Soapy, You think maybe if Emanuel hadn't preceded the word retard with the "F" word, it may not have stung Sarah Palin to that degree?

In any case I'm not one for political correctness, but I understand why someone might object to certain kinds of insults.

I do appreciate good manners and appropriate behavior, especially from a public servant, who in reality, represent's the POTUS. A little class goes a long way. Unfortunately it doesn't exist in the current White House.

In fact Emanuel is a leftist, and you'd think being so "tolerant" and all, he would be more sensitive. Excuse me while I laugh at that notion.

The fact is, nobody's perfect. There is no perfect conservative. I'd hate to have to write a litmus test for one.

I'd wager every conservative here on Geeez, has disagreed with others here about something, several things in fact.

But I think we can all agree, that our country's in trouble, and we stand to lose our freedom in a big way, unless we pull together.

And freedom means live and let live. You mind your business, and I'll mind mine. Except when I'm blogging of course! Ha, Ha.

That sure sounds good to me.

I consider myself more libertarian than conservative althought there is much overlap where I sit.

"The government should ______ ."

I fill that blank in with "#$@# off."

Jefferson summed it up perfectly:

THe government that governs best governs least.

There really isn't a whole lot more one should say. That's IT.

Why we have such great passion for making simple truths seem infinitely complicated and "controversial," I cannot imagine. I guess "Satan" (Or the dark side of human nature if you prefer) infects too many of us with a hatred for Truth.

So many have made great careers out of trying to circumvent, deny and destroy Truth.

It can't be done, of course, because Truth is GOD, but opposing Truth sure makes life on earth a desperate, often bitter struggle.

Too many of us would rather suffer the agony of alienation and isolation than admit we might be wrong.

"Soapy, You think maybe if Emanuel hadn't preceded the word retard with the "F" word, it may not have stung Sarah Palin to that degree?"

Nope. Since it was not with the F word that Palin took offense.

For Beamish

"I consider myself more libertarian than conservative althought there is much overlap where I sit."

Indeed there is.

REASON [magazine 1975]: Governor Reagan, you have been quoted in the press as saying that you’re doing a lot of speaking now on behalf of the philosophy of conservatism and libertarianism. Is there a difference between the two?

REAGAN: If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals–if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is.

Now, I can’t say that I will agree with all the things that the present group who call themselves Libertarians in the sense of a party say, because I think that like in any political movement there are shades, and there are libertarians who are almost over at the point of wanting no government at all or anarchy. I believe there are legitimate government functions. There is a legitimate need in an orderly society for some government to maintain freedom or we will have tyranny by individuals. The strongest man on the block will run the neighborhood. We have government to insure that we don’t each one of us have to carry a club to defend ourselves. But again, I stand on my statement that I think that libertarianism and conservatism are travelling the same path.

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Exactly, Soapboxgod.

I cringe when conservatives fight for prayer in schools or the teaching of creationism alongside evolution theory not because I necessarily disagree with those stances but because I believe there should be no public schools.

I cringe when conservatives complain about illegal immigrants bankrupting social services and welfare programs because I believe there should be no social services nor welfare programs.

I cringe when conservatives push for more taxes on cigarettes and alcohol because taxes are supposed to be for raising revenue not subjectively penalizing behaviors.

I pose myself as anti-left because the areas in which the left glorifies government intrusion far exceed the areas conservatives advocate government intrusions, but the areas conservatives advocate government intrusion do not escape my notice.
