What a performance! Those young women were so awe inspiring I felt sorry for the Russians. Funny how that works, sometimes.

How about that Michael Phelps? Here is a 27 year old and still competing with, and beating, the best in the world. What a guy, and what a swim teaam. Awesome.

I'll be glad when the olympics are over so I can go to bed before midnight. The games are addictive.

Damn. I missed the coverage of the events for women's gymnastics. I go to bed so early.

To put it in perspective

"To put it in perspective"

I agree the NBC is not doing a good job at broadcasting the Olympics. Indeed, an all sports channel like ESPN would do a much better job.

However, the three NBC channels, NBC, MSNBC, and CNBC have been broadcasting different games at different times. I haven't bothered to look for their schedules.

The BBC, as you note, is not free and there is little choice of different content for television news. It is interesting that BBC employees think their service is slanted to liberal. That was noted in an internal survey.

I think that one of the problems is that the Olympic Committee bears some responsibility for this lack of coverage which must have been covered in the contract.

I'm so glad you're all as excited and pleased as I've been.

Boy, was I upset when I'd done such a good job avoiding ANY news so I wouldn't know about Phelps yesterday and BANGO, I get in my car, the radio comes on and says PHELPS WON AGAIN before I could think to turn it off! I'm avoiding all media today......!!

Still, I have enjoyed watching much more than I'd thought I would.

I love those young girls...

Bob...I felt SO sorry for the Russian girls, too!

Ducky, we have it in excellent perspective...America's doing great and we're very proud.

I heard today that NBC is going to break even tho they'd thought they'd lose money on this (as if they'd have done it for a loss!?)

I wish I was living in Europe again because they show nearly EVERY athlete in all the heats, etc..not just the top 3 teams, for example. I got spoiled living there and watching there.

And yes, I'd love to see this on ESPN some day, but they simply can't afford it.
In Germany, the TV's subsidized; perhaps we should do that ONLY for the Olympics, for example?

EVERYBODY..A QUESTION:

Last night, they kept mentioning that the AMerican gymnasts weren't watching the Russians perform.

I couldn't figure out why that was relevant; I know the Russkies were watching them, from what was said.

IS IT GOOD OR BAD THAT OUR GIRLS WEREN'T WATCHING?

To help with the Russian nerves? Out of a kind of angry boycott( tho we'd have heard about that with the media covering almost nothing but winners' names and any negative story they can possibly dig up)...

WHY did the commentators mention how the Americans weren't watching the Russian gymnasts??
