Sunday Faith Post

BIG time Scientists all saying that God's existence can be proven through SCIENCE?  REALLY?
Yes, they sure are.........check THIS out.

That's all I'll say on the subject........the linked article is short and packs a punch.   It includes the fact that the scientists working on this are Nobel winners, Templeton Award Winners, Cambridge and Harvard top notch scientists..."The scientists “come pretty much out of the closet,” and affirm that it is impossible for the universe to be random and without purpose....."

The article also includes this:
“It doesn’t mean you necessarily need proof, what it means is that you need evidence so that you can have some kind of independent extrinsic verification of God because, of course, you’re intuition is not going to push you over the line. This is about 35 percent of our population.”

Sometimes, that's me, I have to admit.....most of you've assured me that scientific 'proof' makes no difference in your faith and I admire you.   I like reading articles like this.......and I hope most of you will, too.

"Know therefore that the Lord your God is God;  he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands."

Deuteronomy  7:9

Love him.  And have a great Sunday.

A few years ago, "Darwin's Black Box" came out. It's a thick read, but points out that the cell has "irreducible complexity" which means, take out one part and it dies, or better yet: all the parts must be assembled simultaneously or it cannot function.
Hence, nothing can evolve into a cell.
This was graphically demonstrated in a film on DVD called "Unlocking the Mystery of Life" and is available to watch on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWvS1UfXl8k .
Another good one is "The Privileged Planet" which demonstrates that the earth is particularly suited as a platform for observing the universe.
It too is available on Youtube.
Both these presentations include presentations by some heavy duty scientists explaining the hand of God in our creation.

A few years back we attended a Bible class with a scientist. He said many in his field felt that their work just reaffirmed their faith with each amazing discovery. That would be cool work to do everyday.

Ducky's here said...

But it tells us little of the nature of God, which is really only knowable through mysticism.

You have to work for your epiphanies.

Z said...

Ed.thanks for that Psalm quote....very good...perfect for this post.

I'll have to check those videos out.

Rita...very very cool work.

Ducky, the Bible's there to tell us of the nature of God. no work at all.

There is far too much order in our universe to have had it develop randomly.

Have a great Sunday, Z.

As an engineer, I have always felt that science was proof of God.

Ducky, it is not for us to understand the nature of God. That doesn't change the logic that the universe and all the order in it was no accident.

Awesome find, Z! Thank you for writing about it. I've got to camp out on Amazon now and wait for it to come out. That will be fun one for the whole family.

I am also heartened to see scientific push-back at the nasty, snotty atheists who are not satisfied in their belief, but insist on ridiculing those of us who believe.

Bob said...

The person who says they base their non-belief on science are particularly simplistic. Science in and of itself is a moving target with formerly true scientific facts being thrown out almost everyday. That is what science does.

The article to which Z linked talks about evidence versus proof. Most of the scientific non-believers I with whom I have conversed will not take evidence of any sort. Their minds are made up, and you cannot confuse them with facts that lead to something different from their predetermined conclusion.

"You have to work for your epiphanies."

That is a common misconception.

Bob said...

"We are all inside of God, like fish moving through water."

Is that pantheism, or ichtheism?

Z said...

Bob "Ichtheism" VERY good one!

Anita, I believe is God is longing for America to come back and I believe He wants to shower us with the riches of the past but how can he now with such amazing immorality, a president who says "whatever we were before, we're not a Christian nation..." (when about 84% say they're Christian), et etc etc etc.? (we could all write a long list )
Thanks for coming by.

Bob's right: MINDS ARE MADE UP and won't be taught.
And, of course, nobody is forcing anyone to believe, and that's completely beside the point.

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

"We are all inside of God, like fish moving through water."

Is that pantheism, or ichtheism?

Allegorical Panentheism

God is not the water or the fish, but rather the act of swimming.

OFF TOPIC; I just saw that Juan Williams has a show on Education tonight on FOX at 9pm. Since we've talked about this at our blogs fairly recently, I thought I'd let you know...

He's discussing a school where class numbers were raised significantly and kids are doing BETTER. Even this lib, Juan, is finally saying "It appears that it's not the money they spend that makes them better...this school has little funding but already ranks #2 in its district (or STate, whatever...)"..I paraphrase.

Thank you, this web site not only provides wonderful information about the trials and tribulations that America is going through right now due to our current president and his socialistic policies and agenda. , But it proves that a political web-sire such as yours can bring Our Lord into sight and learn what the Love of Our Lord can do. Thanks to God I am here today. May He help me to visit your wonderful and informative blog regularly .
I don’t really wish to be political right now, but if our president would understand the ways of the LORD GOD, then perhaps he would be able to serve our country better. And no matter what some people may think, Obama didn't build America… God did.
May the Lord bring us, strength, and comfort in healing the hard days to come.

Z - Let those who need scientific proof study and figure it out.

We have all the proof we need of His existence but there are those who are always looking for more and more - such as The DaVinci Code, the Shroud of Turin, and even the movie - The Passion of the Christ.

We have all we need from the Bible and most of all our personal relationship with Him.

Hope your Sunday is good, Z.

Knowing such details is fine, of course.

But, frankly, I'm one of those who doesn't need verification. Not sure why that is.

Anita, Your comment brought tears to my eyes; I can't tell you how much that meant...thanks so much. God bless you.

Anonymous 1 AND 2...all good stuff there in your comments!!
It kind of goes along with "Why's GOD let unGodly people get rich?"
The darned answer is probably "Because He loves everyone"

(i hate that :=) hAAAAAAA!!

Sue, hi...thanks for your comment.
I believe in the SHroud and not the DaVinci Code, of course (mostly because it's utter rubbish)...and I wish I had the faith some do but I do need the Bible AND.....

For instance, the "AND" today came whilst talking to a teacher at a Baby SHower from which I just returned....I asked her, as a past social worker and teacher now, if she saw kids improve from promiscuity, cutting themselves, drugs, etc., and she said she'd seen it happen but only short term with shrinks and long-term with God. She's about 27 years old and smart as a WHIP and a strong believer. To me, that's just more evidence that He does love us and His healing is the only real healing, don't you think?
I loved what she said.

AOW, I know....you have a rare faith and I congratulate you for it. :-)

I just don't think we're capable of wrapping our brains around it all. Science or no science.....some things you just have to have, faith, trust and believe in.

In 1991 I found something in the encyclopedia that conformed things I had heard growing up around WWII Vets.
Then I saw and heard Bush 41 call Clinton a bozo on national TV Pres. debates, Bubba grining from ear to ear.
I said-hu oh something is up.
I started to go to the library and found more on the things that the encyclopedia did not go into detail.
I went back in history until I found what and who I was looking for.

TS/WS said...

From 1992 until 2003 I found myself losing over ten years of my life in a quest for the things that was the way it was.
Some things that I found in books (the Internet had not come to the information source as is today) said that the Bible was their source.
So, I dove in; and what I found in both The Bible and regular books led me to the people I was looking for; and I traced them back to the future.

Z said...

They Say/We Say....Either I am too stinking OBTUSE to get it, or you're being too CRYPTIQUE!
But I am SO CURIOUS to know what you're saying... could you give it to me again? Thanks!

Kid, it kind of boils down to 'pick a side' but I don't think that covers it!

Imp...WAY too many mysteries to solve. And why? What else could BE so mysterious than GOD?

Sometimes I wonder about all these mysteries, then I remember the BIble says pretty much nothing BUT "HAVE FAITH" and I understand that you don't NEED FAITH when you SEE IT...so I think the whole enchilada is BELIEVING IN HIM THO WE DON"T SEE HIM.

simplified, but...any comments?

Since Abram kept to the obedience to G_d Abram was given to give to all of the future lines 'The Everlasting Covenant'.

All worthy fields of endeavor, however humble -- and however seemingly disparate and diffuse -- lead to greater understanding of God. God is at the root and heart of all Creation. He is All-in-All. And He is Love.

Romans: 8; 38-39 “... neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Dr. Lewis Thomas, award-winning essayist, poet and former Director of the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research in New York saw God in every aspect of life.

We appear to be made of of "matter," but in Truth "matter" is nothing more than incredibly ingenious and varied combinations of Cosmic Energy -- protons, neutrons and electrons.

What we perceive with our five senses -- and even with our most advanced microscopes and telescopes is but the tiniest fragment of all that is.

Reality is infinite on both the micro and the macro levels.

"Life is a mystery to be lived, not a problem to be solved."

“The Kingdom of God is within you.”

"O, rest in the Lord, wait patiently for Him, and He shall give thee thy heart's desires ..."

@Z, Yes I agree, I was only talking to the non-believers. There is no way to bullet point it. As IMP states and I agree, there is too much here to put into a thesis paper.

I do believe in an after-life and a judgement.

Z said...

I also want to add that THAT is the "SIDE" He wants us to pick...

okay. I'm done now.
(Say HALLEJAH!) heh heh!!

Kid said...

Z/IMP, Isn't it interesting to know that most people think they have to all figured out. Mankind's arrogance.

We really haven't strayed to far from the mindset that the Sun revolved around the Earth, and that the Earth is the center of the universe and that humans are the most advanced significant thing in the universe.

That we can predict the climate of the Earth 50 years from now when it's clear we don't even know all the variables. etc etc etc.

99.99% of all "science" is in the trash can, yet, supposed geniuses are always standing on rooftops proclaiming "I Have the Answer".

That geniuses are so stupid tells me they don't have many answers.

Anonymous said...

@Z...

"What else could BE so mysterious than GOD?"

Nothing Z...that's my point. God is...was...and always will be. Can we as mere mortal humans conceive...ever of that concept? Can we even imagine what "eternity" is?

How much time do we have here? God planned that we'd have enough time..and arrogance to assume...we'd get an answer. And eternally...he knew we'd have to wait for that day..when we all...disappear into a vapor and meet him...then we'll have an answer.

Meanwhile...I think He's satisfied to let us...go on as He always has. Deaf, dumb, blind and ignorant...until that one day.

Z said...

Kid, I suppose my comments could sound like "I HAVE THE ANSWER," too....and I KNOW very well you're not implying that but it makes me think.

And you're so right about SO MANY people...including me on many subjects (but I am ALWAYS right, you know? :-) Well, right of a leftist, anyway!! :-)

Imp...well said.
It's fascinating how many cultures have "a God" and that cultures have had "a God" of some kind since the very earliest days.

Then, Jesus comes into question, of course....and the Bible tells the story so convincingly. Paraphrased, "He came to bring us to God because we were F'ing things up so bad" (you may quote me :-)

But, seriously...sometimes I look at those short, sweet parables that tell a million stories on a thousand levels and think "Wait, a simple sailor with no education wrote THAT?"

SO, if there IS a God SO BIG as we understand Him to be....COULD the BIble to "God breathed"?

WHY NOT?

Then it falls on us to love people enough to tell them the story...

God's patient, but not THAT patient. He will bring this all down some day.
Okay, Iran might, but it could be one GRAND PLAN, and I want to be on the HEAVEN side of Kid's "pick a side!" :-)

Will other Jews and other faiths burn in Hell for eternity? personally, I doubt it.
I think there's something to be said for being good people. I also think there's something to be said for the people who invented a good corned beef sandwich (smile!)...

Mother Theresa, of all people, had her own crisis of faith. This is something she said during that time:

~Jesus has a very special love for you. As for me, the silence and the emptiness is so great that I look and do not see, listen and do not hear.~

She was speaking to the Rev. Michael Van Der Peet.

That surprised a lot of people at the time, but I have my own view of this.

I think she exemplified the true meaning of faith. In spite of her feeling of the lack of it, and not feeling the Lord's presence, apparently for several years, she continued on with the work that she felt that she had been called to do. I think that is the true test of faith...never feeling His presence, but staying faithful, anyway.

If we are honest, we all will admit to times of doubt, even though we may deny it to ourselves, and others. That usually happens during some awful time in our lives, or in the lives of our loved ones, but then when things get better, our faith returns (it never really left) and we bask in the realization of the goodness of God, and we are okay again.

As others have said, if we knew the whole mystery of it, we wouldn't need faith, anyway, but for now, that is what is required.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
1 Corinthians 13:12 KJV

Thanks for posting this, Z...I really enjoy your Sunday Faith Blog so much!

They are thought thought provoking, to say the least!

Kid said...

Z, No I definitely wasn't talking about you. I'm talking about the din of mankind for millennium, constantly believing they have the answer. Constantly over-ruled by tomorrow's 'answer'.
Seriously, sometimes it only takes a day to overrule the last genius.

And anyone hwo is smart knows that the more you know, the less you know. Or said another way, the more you know, the more you know you don't know.

Who are these buffoons who believe they finally have 'the answer'.

I'll never have the answer. I wasn't "there". I didn't know Jesus Christ, and I wasn't in the control room when they fired off the big bang to get the whole thing rolling.

In the grand scheme of things we are ants crawling up a tree in the forest.

Z said...

Jan, most people don't know Mother Theresa had what might sound like a sometimes weak faith.
The point, though, is her saying first what love Jesus has for us, isn't it.

It's like I laughingly tell Christian friends "Isn't it bizarre when I feel a real lack of faith from time to time, I pray to GOD to renew my faith"...Wait, WHAT?

What's it say in the BIble, in Mark... "Lord, I do believe. Help me in my unbelief"?

When we do start to really believe in Jesus, I believe this never REALLY leaves us. It's a seed that's sown and we may stray (and many do) and we may sin (and ALL DO, every day 10000 times a day), but it's there.

Remember that story I published last Sunday about the atheist who died and went to hell and couldn't think of what to do to help himself so he remembered, from his childhood, "Jesus Loves Me", and began to sing it...and all went well?
WOW

Z said...

Kid, great points (did you get my email about the show, by the way!?)...

No, none of us was there!...

But, 'ants'...yes, in a way, but if we believe in God and, (I know this sounds corny but I've seen it happen TOO many times to scoff at it anymore), if you study the Bible, it does change your life to where you know you're not an ant, OR if you are nothing more consequential than an ant, you're a loved ant and God wants ya with him 'up there' :-)

And TRUST ME....If I'd read what I just wrote up here 10 years ago, I'd have thought "OH, man, another religious LOON"

I KNOW!!

Jan said...

"The point, though, is her saying first what love Jesus has for us, isn't it."

Z, yes...the doubt that she had, I think, had more to do with herself, than with the existence of God.

I think it showed how humble she was, more than anything else...and the grace of God in her life.

Z said...

Jan, right! I never looked at it that way, but that's probably right.
Makes it achingly beautiful somehow...a woman who worked that hard and was so humble to think SHE was missing something inside her if she didn't feel His presence. And still she carried on working SO HARD.
