How Disarming! :-)

This always cracks me up!   Everything but WELCOME TO WISCONSIN is added digitally, it's not real, but it makes me laugh.  And I needed a really good laugh, I don't know about you!

How's about that town that's making gun ownership mandatory, by the way...........what do you think about that?  It's just "symbolic," apparently, since that Georgia town hasn't had a homicide in five years and only has one cop!   But...how about that symbolism?

Gun ownership should be mandatory. If you cannot defend yourself, you are placing a burden on other taxpayers because of increased reliance on the police.

So, at the least, those who do not own guns should be taxed at a higher rate.

The police resond to crimes. Only the individualhas a chance of preventing a crime.

"symbolic"

Yes, of the absurdity going on elsewhere, which will adversely impact law abiding citizens while doing nothing, whatsoever, to stem the tide of criminal intent and their (criminal) aquisition of whatever it takes to complete their destructive objectives. Obviously, lawbreakers (criminals), have no compunction about breaking the law; law abiding citizens do. So all of this left-wing "gun grabbing" hysteria will do is enable the former while enfeebling the latter!

Z - There's no doubt that the awareness about gun ownership and gun control has increased and is coming out in the open.

It's kind of amusing - but not really - that a law would require mandatory gun ownership.

I would be the first one to go to jail if a law like that were passed here.

CASE-IN-POINT TO MY COMMENT ABOVE:

DENVER (AP) "Evan Spencer Ebel ran up a long list of felony convictions before turning 21, joined a white supremacist gang behind bars, assaulted one prison guard and wrote that he fantasized about killing others.

Along the way, he benefited from a series of errors in the criminal justice system before he became a suspect in the slaying of Colorado's prisons chief and a pizza deliveryman.

He got out of prison four years early because of a clerical error in a rural courthouse. He slipped his ankle bracelet and violated the terms of his parole last month, but authorities didn't put out a warrant for his arrest until after the killings of pizza deliveryman Nathan Leon and corrections chief Tom Clements."

CI; I think if we're upset about any mayor demanding we can't buy a 36 oz Coke, we should also be wary of a city which forces inhabitants to buy a gun.
"Symbolic" is the key word; it sure got them notice and, also, nobody gets punished for NOT owning one.

The town is so small the police chief works 40 hours and then they get police help from two very small cities nearby!

Sue...I don't have one, either. It's important that this discussion comes up because, as loud as the leftwingers are screaming that we need to get rid of guns, there are a whole LOT of people waking up to how they just might want one at home.
As Rand Paul asks "I dare the president to show us how his new rules could have saved those children at Sandy Hook". no way.

JB...yes, there certainly are people out there we do need protection from!!

Conson Fire...what's the expression? When you need help in seconds, the police can be there in minutes?

Curt...you mean that?

When you go to North Georgia, you are going to a special place. The town of Nelson is in the Georgia marble mining country, and the countryside is becoming mountainous as you approach the lower end of the Appalachian mountains.

The town was named after a man who was sometimes a gun maker, and I wouldn't be surprised if that were part of the townsfolk's thinking.

The area is becoming more and more popular as a second home location for Atlantans seeking to escape to the country. The fall season is beautiful, and springtime is breath-taking with the wild dogwoods and flowering trees in bloom.

With all the gun stores in Atlanta running short on their product, maybe I can take a short drive to the North Georgia mountains and get one, there.

Yes, indeed. I may have just talked myself into a little outing.

Z - You are so right that Sandy Hook may not have been able to be avoided.

But I believe that there are some things that could be done and I think we should at least try.

Don't you agree?

By doing something we may be able to avoid another incident - one we may never know whether it could have happened - but we owe it to those children to at least try.

Sue, the problem is that nobody on the Right is saying "Do nothing" but the Left is painting it that way.
There is NOBODY who thinks we shouldn't have background checks but the laws are already in place. Let's follow them.
And let's tighten them if we have to.

What's offensive is those who keep saying the Right , or the NRA, want nothing to do with gun safety.

That's ridiculous. of course something has to be done, but SMART and, lately in America, not much SMART's being done.

Have you read the latest information on how little electric cars do for the environment? or that another electric car company is folding and the tax payers are in debt because the gov't had loaned money to it?

This all needs to be stopped..slow doooowwwwnnn...let's look at the Affordable Care Act and see all the little laws you don't know about it which were snuck in; let's tell the truth about our existing insurance. It will NOT BE THERE even if we do "like it"...

etc etc...
STOP. Don't pass 2000 page bills others haven't read.
STOP. Only make suggestions against guns that might save lives, stop the posturing.
STOP... just slow down. let's be smart.

Sue...unfortunately it cannot be avoided. There will be another somewhere. A Newtown happens once a month in cities like Chicago....in cities like Juarez too.

What will the knee jerk clowns that are politicizing these incidents do when it happens? How will they react again? By confiscating all weapons from people who've never committed a gun crime?

How about a fee and registration for the 1st Amendment? How many millions were murdered by Mao's speech? Or Hiltlers speeches...or Stalins?

Read this fact:

"The city’s status as the murder capital of America became national news in 2012 (Chicago had a murder rate four times that of New York, and more than twice that of Los Angeles for the year).

The latest attacks on innocents walking the streets in the best neighborhoods of the city and on those riding the subway have further publicized Chicago’s crime problem – even internationally. Chicago is now linked with cities such as Johannesburg and Rio De Janeiro, which have grappled with extremely high murder tolls for years.

The great majority of Chicago’s murders occur in areas visitors to the city never see. Most murder victims are the same race as their murderer, and most of the murders occur in the South and West areas of the city. ( Blacks )

Chicago’s shooting rate is even more astonishing than the number killed: in 2012, approximately one in every 1,000 Chicagoans was shot — a rate 6 times higher than New York’s rate. In other words, New York has more accurate shooters than Chicago.

If Chicago’s shooters killed with the accuracy of the shooters in New York, the murder toll would have approached 800 in 2012, not just over 500. This weekend was typical — 23 Chicagoans shot, but only two (so far) dead from the shooting spree.

Now..as tragic as the Newton incident was...I tend to think that there's plenty of covert racism going on here by the LSM. Why? 20 White kids get killed and the country is upside down...800 black kids get shot / killed....and the country is totally quiet. Not a peep.

LOT makes a good point when he writes, “…militia was synonymous with “the people. After all, who were the militia other than the people?” But then, a few lines later, he returned to our modern standard of confusion about where we are. He wrote, “If the government were to take away any of the rights of the people enumerated in the Bill of Rights, it would break an agreement between the people and their government…”

My first point is that our founding fathers saw no distinction between the people, and the government. We the people … ordain the government. We’ve come a long way since then, haven’t we? Many of our rights, as enumerated in the Constitution and Bill of Rights have already been taken away. If one understands that the Constitution was intended to protect us from government, then one cannot be happy that Congress has found clever ways to usurp our authority over them as enumerated in the Constitution.

As originally intended, federalism was a compact among the people, the states, and the central government. As the people had their representatives in the House, states had their representatives in the Senate. What has happened to the senate, then? Where is American federalism in the wake of the usurpation of the 9th, and 10th, Amendments, and implementation of the 17th Amendment? See how lawyers in Congress have transformed the commerce clause into the gift that keeps on giving them ever-increasing power over us. How did we get to the point where the Federal government can tax us into Obama Care, or spend our nation into national ruin?

Our founding fathers could never have imagined that this country would create a standing army … but it isn’t the military we have to be concerned about: it is the standing army of law enforcement people who think they can control us with drones, listening devices, and the disgrace of the Patriot Act, a corrupt attorney general, and an utterly putrid voting system that allows gangsters to steal elections from the people.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden lectures us about patriotism: it is that we must pay more in taxes to keep him fed and clothed and housed in the manner to which he has always been accustomed, and send the first family around the world at our expense.

If anyone thinks all is well in America, I have a bridge for sale in Brooklyn.

Sam,
Thanks for the comment. Your point is well taken as far our rights are concerned. I would agree that our rights have been infringed upon to a great degree. The Supreme Court has ruled that the
2nd Amendment went from an individual right as intended, to a collective right and finally and rightfully, back to an individual right. Hopefully it stays there.

As for the 9th and 10th, government would prefer to ignore those. We need to remember that the states formed the federal government and not the other way around.

As for the 17th I agree. The Founders intended for the Senators to fill the role of ambassadors from the states to the federal government. That was the right role for them in that they were able to protect the interests of the states.

1913 was a particularly bad year with the 16th and 17th Amendments passing and the most insidious law of all the Federal Reserve Act.

Honestly, the last line of the letter was really a throwaway to kind of sum up the letter. Good point though.

Ya know Z....since I have all my family still in NY and Jersey....I know so many people that were connected to someone that day...that were lost in those towers. My sister in law lives in Jersey City...and half her friends worked there. And she had an office there on a 3 day a week schedule that she had to check in with.

I have several friends from school that live on Long Island...who had neighbors that worked there and were lost. Commack....Smithtown...all kinds of LIR train stops..

They've never recovered.

No, I didn't. Man, I can't imagine how you'd find anyone who were on the aircraft.. and many that were in the towers. What do you do? I know in situations such as WWI and WWII, you just bulldoze the bodies into mass graves and plant white crosses all over France.

It's OK Z..I understood the question.

"I mean, they're GONE, would it bother you not to have a grave to go to where part of a piece of flesh was finally buried?"

Oh yes...Yes, yes..Yes. We need some closure. And traditionally it's that burial place...that grave we need to pay homage to and respect. To visit with and commiserate with our dead.

Like most of us when we lose a loved one...we have that tradition to hold on to forever. A place...a monument to revere for that person we were so close to in life.

We both have that Z...I know what you've gone through...and vise versa.

Yet..I can't really, truthfully imagine the suffering, the pain that the people who lost their lives and loved ones in 911 have had to bear since 1600 haven't yet been laid to rest. It has to be a nightmare in the extreme Z.
