"I take thee............to the cleaners"

I have predicted for years that church tax exemption will be taken away some time in my life time...........with THIS NEWS, isn't the church the next place they'll hit?    What if a church won't marry a gay couple?  You can count on trouble.   Remember when churches helped the needy so much?  They still do, to a point, but the economy's affecting them, too, believe me.  Again;  it's "go to the government."  Is this planned?

What do you think?

The tax exemption was intended as a part of freedom of religion.
If a church could be taxed, it could have special taxes applied with the intention of closing it.

Z - With the way times are changing - you are right to think that church tax exemptions are the next to go. It's all about the direction our country is taking.
Whether it is right or wrong is an individual opinion. The gay community is growing and there is bound to be a change in matters of tax exemption.

The goal is for only one religion and that religion iis the State or the Collective. Yes, the tax exemptions of churches is a likely target of the left.

Anything is possible with this administration. The damage will be hard to undo if we ever get rid of them. Hillary plans to move into the White House after Obama. Oh joy.

There's an organization here in LA that feeds the homeless and it was created by a church but you can't mention it too much b/c I've heard it ticks some people off. It's pretty sick.

Z,
This is further proof that we won't necessarily see massive changes but a slow erosion of our rights. The P.R. campaign underway by the progressives is paralleled by the first progressive era in the early 20th which culminated with prohibition.

I only hope that the same overreach again infects these zealots. I don't think they can help themselves.

Z said...

Ed, I think there was a point to churches doing so much for others that not taxing freed them up to do just that..help.

Sue...so you'd be for taxing churches (the next step to their closing down since the economy's thrashing tithing) to accomodate gay marriages within their walls?
Do you really think so many gays can't find a church that WILL marry them without forcing it on those who follow God's word?

FB...would you privately email what organization you're talking about? merci!

Sorry, Ducky, I have never called your Catholic pedophiles anything close to what you called Warren...you're deleted.

Constitutional Insurgent said...

I don't mind church's retaining their tax exempt status, as long as they do not act as political lobbying outlets.

Churches currently are not required to marry any couple they do not wish to, and I don't see any mechanism for that changing.....though the issue is just another argument for the State divorcing itself from religious marriage.

@Z:

"many gays can't find a church that WILL marry."

I'm sure the muslims will welcome them with open arms....( The AK47 kind of arms ).

This is one of those slippery slopes that America fell off in the 1930s, when Catholics (and to a lesser degree Protestants) began lobbying the government to usurp their charity / social welfare functions.

Church involvement in government GOT US HERE.

Z said...

Const. Insurg..there have been several attempts at forcing churches to marry gays. It's only a matter of time they demand it "or else".

Beamish, churches lobbied? Or handed over by not fulfilling their previous deeds for the needy?

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Oh, it was lobbying. FDR's "New Deal" programs have their ideological roots in misguided (but perhaps well-intentioned) Catholic social ministries.

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

See, we can show we care by creating longer lines at the food pantry...

Z said...

"longer lines at the food pantry".

Well, they were lines at the churches; and they should have stayed there.
if tax exemption goes, it's exactly what the gov't wants.

Did you know they're advertising US Food Stamps in Mexico, Beamish?
Sure! "Come to AMerica, they'll take care of yoU!"

...with more people that can't afford food.

Did you know they're advertising US Food Stamps in Mexico, Beamish?

It's misdirection to keep the retarded obsession with populism going. My proof?

Conservatives USED to want to END the welfare state. Now they want it to be "members only."

(((Thought Criminal))) said...

Instead, we're headed for "we wouldn't have all these expensive social welfare and retirement programs if we executed the people that need them."

WHAT is a RAIN TAX, SAM???

Maryland's 'Rain Tax'.

Const. Insurg...thanks. I think.
ARE WE NUTS??

They're measuring our land now and taxing due to their findings?

we are such toast.

Constitutional Insurgent said...

Why not? Virginia taxes what you overpaid on the previous years taxes..as income. Any avenue for government to fleece funds will not be overlooked.

Oh, did I say something bad about Rick Warren?

Z can't handle the truth once again.

Z said...

Ducky, I do not like Rick Warren. I admire some things he's done, I am not a fan and, the odd thing is that you know that because I mentioned it a few times.

I think calling someone "human waste" is a little beyond "something bad". And I didn't read past that.

By the way, let's hear your 'truth' about Rick Warren. What is it you don't like...too Protestant? Too philanthropic? Too open with his faith?

Eager to hear that.

Cons. Insurg...they TAX on overpayments? Is this a joke?

By the way, my accountant electronically turned in my taxes, fed and state, and my bank electronically got the fed and state funds within about four days. I was pretty surprised about that.

Constitutional Insurgent said...

Nope....no joke. I got a postcard in January specifying how much I had to add to my taxable income for this years return.

The joys of living in a "commonwealth" I suppose.....

In Canada already, preachers are being prosecuted for preaching against homosexuality.
But they don't have a Bill of Rights.

I think the Church has been corrupted by tax exempt status. It would benefit our culture if our clergy could actually speak the Truth.

@Sam:

"could this be yet another double standard foisted upon the American people?"

Of course it is...no one has the bialis to call the "religion of peace" exactly what a garbage can cult it is...There I said it.

They know the idiots will issue death warrants...and never get prosecuted.

And there's one little group they revile and hate too....gays. Let's see if the gays protest against the mudlims.

Z said...

Elbro, any pastor can preach the true gospel if he knows it and understands it and believes it.
I doubt that tax exemption would interfere there.
What are you thinking that would be prohibited?

Obviously, the gay church marriage will rear its head, though I strongly believe that most gays who go to church are IN churches who'll marry them, anyway. This is about agenda, not anything else.

Have you ever seen conservatives party over a dead liberal? This is amazing but not shocking.

They're celebrating because she wasn't for the working man.
I guess they don't know how unemployment went down under her, significantly.

Most of these people were children when she was alive, but that liberal indoctrination carries on... I guess Maggie believed more in helping those who wanted to help themselves;
bummer for a liberal.

Sam, it's just a FACT that the left is meaner than the right. Then they blame the right for hating the needy, hating the poor, etc..as IF.

But, their way is the easy way; who wants to be told "Work for your money" when you can have government say "Here's your money" They know that, that's Obama's ticket to popularity. I'm afraid it'll continue. It's funny, because I'm at a high school every day and I speak a little to the kids and these things sometimes come up and the little dopes who think they're libs agree with everything I say when I tell them facts and background.

Andie, I worry so much for our children.
